City Plaza Alor Setar

[edit]

Hey KudzuVine, i was wondering why did you remove the info box of City Plaza Alor Setar ?

Eason Heng 15:07, 14 December 2013 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Eachen4896 (talkcontribs)

Hey I saw you had done a fair amount of editing on some pages on boathouse row. I'm doing a project at Cornell University on the Schuylkill Navy page and I could use any help you'd be willing to throw my way. I am on the heavyweight squad at Cornell and one of my partners is on the lightweight team here. We think we've done a pretty solid job upgrading the article, but anything you could add would be great. Thanks!

HAER and HABS pics

[edit]
John Fox Slater House / Elks Club one, thanks for uploading!

Hey, no rush, but i wonder if you'd be willing to select from available HAER pics of bridges on the Merritt Parkway, for inclusion in each of the NRHP list-articles that include it:

For example, searching on "Merritt Stamford" or such yields several candidates of Merritt Pkwy bridges going over or carrying the Merritt in Stamford, including one named something like Guinea Bridge. They're all nice.... Hope you're doing well in your current endeavors. Cheers, --doncram (talk) 00:04, 17 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Also, if/when you have time, pls. check out HABS pics notes of availability for several items in List of Elks buildings, and one item so far at List of Masonic buildings. :) --doncram (talk) 16:01, 18 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for adding the pics you've done so far! One point of confusion: the John F. Slater House is different from the Slater Memorial Museum, and only the latter is in the Chelsea Parade Historic District. Both have HABS pics available. Could you possibly upload something for the latter, for use in Chelsea Parade HD? Or maybe you are on it already. Any error is my fault; I'm trying now to correct my mistakes in the articles, when i did not have this figured out. --doncram (talk) 17:33, 21 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks so much! It's a big help to have the List of Elks buildings looking a bit more solid as a new list-article without a clear home wikiproject. I was also happy to add one of the pics to the Stephen C. Earle architect article (he specialized in Richardsonian Romanesque as in the Slater Memorial Museum). :) Cheers, --doncram (talk) 02:56, 22 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Prudence Crandall House's front pavillion, with Gothic muntins galore
Prudence Crandall House's front pavillion, with Gothic muntins galore

Hey, i have picked Prudence Crandall House and Stephen Tyng Mather House as 2 of my 3 articles to improve during a wp:CONN contest which runs for a couple months now. I wonder if u could be so kind as to upload all 3 remaining HABS pics (u did one already) for the Crandall House (which is known in HABS as Elisha Payne House) to its article, which is lengthening and will soon be able to accomodate them all nicely. I'd like to do a 5X expansion DYK in the next few days, if possible. It's a neat house architecturally but even more so historically, and it is a U.S. NHL.

Also i wonder if u could upload pics for the Stephen Tyng Mather himself, in particular the library of congress pic with antlers at "Stephen T. Mather, half-length portrait, facing right, standing next to large set of antlers". And more of the HABS Stephen Tyng Mather House pics (one already uploaded). There are 18 pics available. I haven't tried developing its article yet, but i am sure i'd like a few morepics, including the 1879 historic one and some interior pics as well as more exterior views. Not sure what the NRHP/NHL nom doc for that house will focus upon. I am more than a little vague on this, but i think this Tyng dude is responsible for the NRHP program being started! Or some such stupendous historical preservation related effort. :)

If/when you'd be available and interested to help with this, i'd be most grateful! It is incredibly much more gratifying to work on developing articles where readers and editors can see what they're talking about! Sincerely, --Doncram (talk) 05:06, 5 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks! I've inserted the Prudence Crandall House pics and was happy to find they portray elements of architecture discussed in the nom, discussion which would be incomprehensible to me without the pics. Now, i like the Gothic arch-shaped muntins in the over-door window, over-big-window window, and within-pediment windows. And i know what a muntin is now! Article reached 5X expansion, so is DYK eligible if i can compose a good nomination wording.
Could you also possibly add 3 more pics i've come across? These would be the National Park Service photos 1,2,3 by Dennis Oparowski here and here. I believe those 3 are in the public domain and they would add to what i could say in the article, as they depict a side doorway also having a pediment and the rear ell which is where boarding students slept. Neither show in the HABS pics. And another interior view. I would use them all in the article proper. I guess i plan to develop more about the physical house, and maybe leave the main story about the school to be told mainly in the Prudence Crandall article about the person. Again just if u can; no problem if u can't.
I see also that u added 2 pics for the Mather House, thanks! --Doncram (talk) 04:11, 6 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I loaded three photos for the Stephen Tyng Mather House. If you find another one needed for the article, tell me which one is needed. I was not thinking and gave one the name for Darian (sic) Connecticut. I have requested the name to be changed. I have no idea of how long that will take. I don't have admin rights to do it. I also tried to move the existing picture on the page to Commons, but it apparently still needs admin approval.
The Stephen Mather photo with the deer horns is just a thumbnail. Higher resolution ones are not available on the website. They say you need to go to the LOC. I am also not sure about the rights. With no date clearly given (1910-1930), PD-old, does not work. KudzuVine (talk) 17:04, 6 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Goose River Bridge

[edit]

Hi, i revised the Goose River Bridge disambiguation page following your recent edit, and I created a new article about one of the bridges listed there. I wasn't clear on what your edit was doing, so have effectively reversed it. Can you please verify the dab page is now correct? Hopefully it is now clear. Edit further there or lemme know if there's anything more to be done. Thanks, --doncram 22:23, 24 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Alfredo S.G. Taylor houses

Starling Childs "sport house", 1930, uploaded by KudzuVine

Hi KudzuVine. I hope you might be interested to find and upload HABS / Library of Congress pics for NRHP-listed Rockwell House (Norfolk, Connecticut) and for Starling Childs Camp, two works by architect Alfredo S.G. Taylor, and perhaps to upload one or two of the best pics to the Taylor article. Anything along these lines would be most appreciated. Cheers, --doncram 17:24, 1 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

P.S. Taylor was part of "Taylor & Levi" partnership, and the following url gives Library of Congress pic links, which i presume relate to a HABS survey: %26 Levi&fi=names. --doncram 17:26, 1 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on File:Winston County Alabama Courthouse.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. NRHP table format

Just checking that you are aware of the discussion at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_National_Register_of_Historic_Places#Wiki_Loves_Monuments_2012, concerning changing the format of the NRHP county tables. Notes in mainline

[edit]

At National Register of Historic Places listings in Thurston County, Washington, are you sure those "Elkman" notes belong visibly in the main line of the text? That seems rather unorthodox. - Jmabel | Talk 01:37, 5 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • Unless you or someone can show that they are actually on the register, the sites should be removed or put in separate categories as eligible but "owner objection." There is also one that is "pending" for a very long time. I intend to discuss these on the NRHP talk page when I get a chance. Remove the Elkman if you wish, but better yet, find the evidence that they are on the Register.KudzuVine (talk) 02:11, 5 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Denver Mtn Parks NRHP sites

[edit]

Hi, Kudzuvine. On the Denver Mountain Parks page you edited early in February, I believe one of your edits is incorrect. You wrote: "The Lookout Mountain Park and Summit Lake Park were designated to the National Register of Historic Places in 1990 and 1995, respectively, as a result of a multiple-property submission that included fourteen parks." Note that the end of the sentence says "14 parks;" I see no need to single out and mention just two parks. Please see [1] for information on the 1990 MPS (1995 is not online). Would you please return the sentence to its original version? Thank you! --Araucana (talk) 15:53, 3 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I am sorry that I do not understand. The two Lookout Mountain Park and Summit Lake Park were designated to the National Register of Historic Places in 1990 and 1995. This is true. There is the MPS that you mention in 1990. I do not know anything about a second MPS in 1995. So as far as I know, the sentence is correct. I can find no designation of the entire Denver Mountain Park system as a historic district for example. If I have missed it, please change it and give the Reference number, Name of the actual nrhp citation, and the date. Could the sentence be said better. Undoubtedly! Please give it a try. This is wikipedia, so feel free to revert the sentence, but please don't claim that entire system is listed (not just a MPS) without a refnum, name, and date that can be looked up in Focus, the Weekly list, or Elkman Infobox generator. KudzuVine (talk) 16:33, 3 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, I reworded the sentence and updated the reference link; please see Ref #2, which has the Reference numbers for each park. Rather than list them all here, I added a link to the NRHP listing for Jefferson Co. at Wikipedia, which has the dates and all the sites; perhaps these tables should include the Ref numbers. I believe the DMP page is now consistent with the listing at the state OAHP (ref #2 above)and the county listing. The latter shows only the 13 parks and the two scenic drives in Jeffco (the other 3 are listed in Clear Creek and Douglas Co. pages). General source #2 is the 1990 documentation form itself, which lists 7 districts. I don't know why the 1995 form is not also online but I do have a hard copy of it. Thanks! --Araucana (talk) 16:00, 10 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I found your weekly listings, and was able to find all the sites. Please see weekly listings for 5/21/90-5/25/90, 11/12/90-11/16/90, 12/24/90-12/28/90 (posted Jan 1991), 2/20/95-2/24/95, and 6/26/95-6/30/95. NRHP infobox at USS North Carolina (BB-55)

[edit]

Just a question. I see you added an infobox nrhp to the article at USS North Carolina (BB-55). However, this article already has one embedded in the main infobox. Is this other one you put in about something different? Otherwise, I think yours could just replace the one in the infobox as it looks more detailed. Thank you for your input. Just didn't know what the difference was. -- JoannaSerah (talk) 15:48, 15 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Caddo Lake Drawbridge / Waddell & Harrington

The HABS at http://www.loc.gov/pictures/collection/hh/item/la0164.photos.073709p/ is not correct. It just has the three words in the long title. The brigde is not Caddo Lake Drawbridge. Flickr has nice pictures, but I think all are rights reserved. I could not find one at http://www.louisianadigitallibrary.org/. The bridge is pre 1923 so copyright may not be an issue if someone can find an old postcard or photo. Maybe next time. KudzuVine (talk) 12:40, 24 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Texas pics

Hey, I wonder if you can possibly find any HABS or other pic covering any work of Victoria, Texas architect Jules Leffland. It would be great to have a pic come up into its article, which I've asked editor cbl62 to help with. It would be more fun if we had anything to see.  :) But the corresponding National Register of Historic Places listings in Victoria County, Texas is bare for all Leffland-associated items. He did seem to design the Old Nazareth Academy built in 1904, which has just one contributing building. If those 1913 pics are in Victoria, Texas (not obvious to me) rather than being pics of some other Nazareth Academy, then they're super. Thanks! Off for now, for me too. Thanks! --doncram 22:43, 10 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Also the description i now added to new Old Nazareth Academy article is that it was a two-and-a-half story building; the building in those pics looks bigger. :( --doncram 22:57, 10 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
These pictures are definitely not the correct Nazareth Academy." They are in Kansas! I should have seen that but I was racing to get off to a meeting. I can see the 2.5 story building in Google Maps Street view, but it seems to be up the street. St Mary's Catholic church is closer to 105 W. Church. It is more like 170-180 Church and across the street from the Police Department. Clearly says "Nazareth Academy." Sorry. No photo at loc.gov!KudzuVine (talk) 23:46, 11 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Alaska pic

[edit]

Hi KudzuVine: There's a complaint at wt:NRHP about the current photo at the George C. Thomas Memorial Library article, and mention that "I'm pretty sure there is a Jet Lowe photo of the building" which should be used instead. Is Jet Lowe one of the HABS photographers? The name seems familiar. Anyhow i wonder if you might try to find and add a photo if possible, and if you could respond at wt:NRHP. Hope you're well. cheers, --doncram 20:47, 3 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

LOC photo without mention of Jet Lowe, but this is the correct place. This was mentioned at wikiproject Alaska talk page (wt:ALASKA ? ). --doncram 21:17, 3 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Photo replaced with the Jet Lowe HABS photo. KudzuVine (talk) 22:58, 3 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

SC articles for WLM pics nominated for a prize

[edit]
Reidville Academy Faculty House, currently a redlink; pic is WLM-nominated

There's a small article drive going on at User:Smallbones/list articles, which was discussed and linked from the main wt:NRHP page. To start articles for any places covered in the 500 WLM-nominated new pictures, if the article is missing. This will help ensure that the pics actually correspond to the places, before any awards are given. There are several South Carolina places among those needing articles. I know you plug along creating SC articles, with the SC documents available; maybe you could focus on these ones rather than others, if you have time. I expect others will start those articles if you don't, but you're probably better/quicker with the SC documents now. Anyhow, you're welcome to contribute/comment in this drive. cheers, --doncram 19:58, 13 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hampton County, SC NRHP list

[edit]

Hi Kudzu ... I think you may have inadvertently removed the Oak Grove listing from National Register of Historic Places listings in Hampton County, South Carolina with this edit. If not, do you have a source for it being removed? I restored it a few minutes ago, but will move it to a "Former listings" table on that page if it's been removed. Let me know. --sanfranman59 (talk) 06:42, 22 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Friendfield Plantation -- Wrong picture?

[edit]

I don't think this is the right picture. The Silver Hill Plantation was another plantation nearby. The Social Register article suggests it was owned by a cousin of the first Friendfield Plantation owner.Zigzig20s (talk) 01:14, 23 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  • You could be correct. And I could be also correct. This is Silver Hill, which is mentioned as part of the historic district encompassing the Friendfield Planation in the historic district. I would prefer the best representation of the district today. This means to me a current picture. I put in the caption that this was Silver Hill, but I would like to see a modern picture in addition to these historic ones. Is the house shown at http://www.loc.gov/pictures/search/?q=friendfield%20plantation%20house the correct one? If I can replace or supplement the picture in the article. But a modern picture would still be nice. KudzuVine (talk) 14:58, 23 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Elkman infobox

[edit]

I see that you've been completing the Elkman infobox in a number of NRHP articles. Could I urge some caution on that? One of the articles where you've done it was Botany Bay Plantation Wildlife Management Area, which I recently expanded. Of the four items that you added, one was just plain wrong, one was inaccurate, and one was unnecessary and potentially misleading.

The wrong datum was "Governing body: Private". As indicated in the article, the property has been owned by the state of South Carolina since 1977, and managed by the state's Department of Natural Resources as a Heritage Preserve and Wildlife Management Area since at least 2008.

The inaccurate item was "Built: 1840". Per the article, sourced to the nom form, the best we can say is "thought to date from the 1840s".

Potentially misleading is "Area: 5 acres". This may be true of the NRHP site, but it's definitely not the case with the HP/WMA, which is the subject of the article. I left this datum out to avoid any confusion on this. I also regard the area as a fairly minor detail for most NRHP sites. Per MOS:INFOBOX,

In this case, I don't think the area of the NRHP property is a "key fact": most NRHP articles that I've read don't include it in the body text, which suggests that it's less than essential information. I'd include the area in articles on extensive NRHP sites, e.g. HDs, battlefields, and large archaeological sites; but would default to leaving it out for single buildings and structures.

I can't recall whether you participated in WikiProject NRHP's somewhat spirited discussion of writing articles based primarily or entirely on the NRIS; but this example illustrates why many of us NRIS-skeptics are that way. There's just too much outdated, inaccurate, misleading, and otherwise flawed information in the database to justify using it without cross-checking against more detailed sources. Ammodramus (talk) 14:16, 2 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. Great to see you adding a map on this page, but you also removed the picture, which I have added back. Was this a mistake? Mistakes can happen. However, if this was intentional, please don't do that--pictures are an integral part of a page.Zigzig20s (talk) 15:26, 18 January 2014 (UTC) Btw, are you able to add a map for Wyolah Plantation, Rosswood and Weaver Place?Zigzig20s (talk) 15:38, 18 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Is there an official website with official listings? I'd like to see more articles about Southern plantations and for them to be quite a bit longer than a stub. Perhaps you can help if interested. Am also very interested in the planters themselves.Zigzig20s (talk) 18:37, 18 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I know, I've seen both...I think with an "a" makes more sense, but I'd like to find out if it was named after Michel de Montaigne. I am not sure how to find out though. I recommend not moving it as long as we don't know for sure.Zigzig20s (talk) 00:38, 2 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

uploading a pic

Hi, long time no see, hope you are well. I was not active for a long time, myself, but have returned to developing articles about NRHP places and architects and so on. Hey, I am considering starting an article on architect Colonel W.L. Stevens and wonder if a caricature image of him might be uploaded to commons. One place the image is available is at http://southeasternarchitecture.blogspot.com/2013/01/new-orleans-architects-1917.html. cheers, --doncram 23:41, 29 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I am back after nearly 8 years. I stopped because I could not do my job and continue. When I retired, I could not remember the password and did not have an email backup. I finally found it on old hard drive with "magic software."
The Stevens caricature on the webpage has no license. I had a number of pictures removed because of disputed license so I am not eager to upload. I could not find the original in google books or anywhere else where is could be licensed since it 105 years old.
Been working at some sites I created or worked on. Many have "aged poorly" and have broken links, etc. Not clear my level of participation - Wikipedia can be quite addictive! KudzuVine (talk) 19:49, 3 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

DYK for Faith Cabin Library at Seneca Junior College

[edit]

On 25 June 2022, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Faith Cabin Library at Seneca Junior College, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Faith Cabin Library at Seneca Junior College in South Carolina is also called the "Oberlin Unit" because of the donations of books by the students of Oberlin College in Ohio? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Faith Cabin Library at Seneca Junior College. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Faith Cabin Library at Seneca Junior College), and if they received a combined total of at least 416.7 views per hour (i.e., 5,000 views in 12 hours or 10,000 in 24), the hook may be added to the statistics page. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.
