A suite of dubious for-profit college articles

[edit]

Hi Kudpung. If you have time, could you take a look at my comments at Talk:London College of Contemporary Arts#Serious notability issues? It's a for-profit unaccredited college and one of a whole suite of problematic promotional articles on institutions in the LSBF Group, of which it is a part. They all need eyes. And possibly redirects or AfDs? London College of Contemporary Arts was already deleted at this AfD in 2013 and recreated a few months later. I have no idea what the original one looked like. Best, Voceditenore (talk) 19:33, 4 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Voce. I'vde spent about an hour investigating the current and previously deleted versions, but that's all I can do right now - it's gone 6:30am here and I have to go to work soon. Various established editors including Justlettersandnumbers have already removed large chunks of promotional content and sources. A rather large number of the contributors to the original deleted article have been blocked. The new article is a re-wrte, but not a copy, of the deleted one. Of course your post at Talk:London College of Contemporary Arts is entirely accurate and I belive you have provided sufficient background there for an AfD which of course I would have to support with a 'Delete' vote, and possibly for the other articles you mention. Ironically, however, the Guardian article is pretty damning and although we are not supposed to play at social politik, one wonders whether or not Wikipedia has a moral responsibility to keep such articles after all. On another note (I know, I know), if you had a set of certain tools, you could put your excellent investigative skills to even better use. --Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 23:36, 4 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the ping, Kudpung. I'll comment at Talk:London College of Contemporary Arts#Serious notability issues rather than here; I offer you this, this and this as background reading in case you are interested (I don't know how closely relevant any of that is to the present version of the page). But I do want add my support to your last comment here: time to reconsider, Voceditenore? Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 07:56, 5 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

THe reasons for the deletion are at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Nee Vaa Sruthi Polam. All I did was to enact the decision of the Wikipedia community. If you feel the Community's consensus was incorrect, you may make an appeal at WP:DELREV. Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 10:42, 8 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your help last year and cheerio !

[edit]

Your help was greatly appreciated by this newbie last year. The Barnstar award was unexpected and very encouraging but after the latest few rounds of "editing" carried out by those lacking sufficient subject knowledge but with enormous enthusiastic political correctness, I have decided that I'm done here. If Wikipedia ever decide to restrict "editing" to people with enough subject knowledge to add value in the process I shall be back, but otherwise I think not. Your encouragement and advice was sincerely appreciated. Thanks and best wishes for the future. R44 Researcher1944 (talk) 09:43, 5 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Researcher1944, I am really sorry to hear this. It's the kind of thing that my friend and colleague Dennis Brown would normally pick up on. Can you email me a list of diffs where you feel the articles have been butchered and I'll investigate. --Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 10:33, 8 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

checkuser

[edit]

I of course do have access to checkuser, and I received some basic training in it , but I have only used it once or twice to look at other people's checks; I have never run a check myself and never plan to. When my term is over, I intend to retain oversight, but not checkuser. If you need a checkuser run, ask in the customary way. But fwiw, I have been told that it is almost useless in the UK and India and a few other countries because of their address allocation schemes. DGG ( talk ) 01:23, 6 May 2016 (UTC) That's quite true of course, DGG, even my IP in Thailand doesn't geolocate to closer than 100Km. In fact it locates to the regional office of the government telephone company. --Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 01:24, 7 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

London School of Business and Finance and all its pomps and works

[edit]

Hi Kudpung. Just a heads-up that I have begun clean up of this article following the London College of Contemporary Arts discussion. The details are at Talk:London School of Business and Finance. As I imagine my revisions will not escape the notice of the owner's brand managers, you might want to put it on watch. In the end, I also created a separate article on the owner, Global University Systems, which you might also want to put on watch. Best, Voceditenore (talk) 09:54, 8 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

RE: Poseidon Asset Management

[edit]

Hi Kudpunng,

I see that you deleted a page I created, for Poseidon Asset Management, because you deemed it to be unambiguously promotional. While I respect your decision, Im looking for guidance. How is the page I created any different from this one: https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Privateer_Holdings

The Privateer page also seems to be unambiguously promotional, yes? How is it different? Thanks for your help.

Best, CHO Monolithicfungus (talk) 18:25, 13 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Poseidon Asset Management was flaaged for deletion under an appropriate policy by a page patroller. I endorsed that decision and carried out the actual deletion. I have not been involved with Privateer_Holdings and have never seen the article. We have several thousand users reviewing articles for compliance with our policies. If you feel that Privateer_Holdings should be deleted, you are welcome to tag it for deletion by an admin. Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 00:52, 14 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

RE: Tushar Unadkat: Draft

[edit]

Hi there Kudpung,

Apologies if I'm being too hasty, but I noticed that a couple of weeks previously you rejected the draft page I created for a company that has contributed much to South Asian communities - "MUKTA Advertising". However, since then I have re-submitted a new draft, and I have been waiting for a reply. I was hoping you may be able to look over it again and let me know if there's any way I can improve this as to have it approved. I've tried my best and hope you will be patient with me. Thank you for your help.

All the best, Daniel Jason Binks — Preceding unsigned comment added by Danieljasonbinks (talkcontribs) 15:41, 13 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sorry, but I don't recall having had anything to do with such an article. Perhaps a link would help - and please remember to sign your posts (see the blue banner at the foot of this page).Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 00:45, 14 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Hi again,
The page is Draft:Tushar_Unadkat. I had a notification that you rejected it and found you, or at least this was my understanding.
All the best.
User:danieljasonbinks
Hi Daniel. Could you please read the many messages on your talk page very carefully again. They all appear to concern submissions of articles and/or drafts that for various reasons do not meet our criteria for inclusion, including messages from Voceditenore. You will see that while I nominated your original creation of an article about an advertising company for deletion that was subsequently deleted by admin SpacemanSpiff, I have not been involved in any way with the review of your draft articles. I do not review drafts at AfC but having read Draft:Tushar_Unadkat I concur with the reviewer's findindings. That is the person with whom you should be discussing this. Again, please remember to sign your post using four tildes: ~~~~. Thanks Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 01:24, 18 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Kudpung (and Daniel). I wasn't sure what my connection was to this but I see it must have been the comments I left last December on Daniel's Draft:Ross Campbell (International Singing Specialist). In any case, I've now left some advice about the multiple issues with the drafts and articles Daniel has created at User talk:Danieljasonbinks#The articles you have been creating. Re; Kendall Wall Band Comment

[edit]

Back in September 2015 you approved the article of the Kendall Wall Band. https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Kendall_Wall_Band. I just learned (as I still do not know all the in’s and out’s of wiki as I mainly do research) that this article has not ever been accepted as an article. It is listed I believe as a maintenance project? Why? I have spent hours hunting for info anywhere on this band. I am assuming now this article is scheduled to be deleted from wiki. I do not understand any of this, explains why I cannot get a wikiproject assessment done on this article. https://wiki.riteme.site/w/index.php?title=Kendall_wall_band&redirect=no (Thankfully the Canadian Historical Encyclopedia have taken them).T Heart (talk) 14:46, 26 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I'm sorry, but I fail to see what your concerns are with this article. Ads far as I can see there's nothing wrong with it, you've done a grand nob on it, and it's never been slated for deletion. All I did nearly a year ago was to correct the creator's lack of giving the subject a proper capitalised name and some minor copy edits. The redirect is a leftover from correcting the page name. Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 15:49, 26 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for responding much appreciated, I am the Creator of the Article. Is it possible to remove the redirect? It's very confusing that it goes to a maintenance project list. How can I go about asking for this article to be assessed for a wikiproject assessment? T Heart (talk) 18:54, 26 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
The redirect goes to the main article and not to any maintenance project list. This is the log entry:
''19:17, August 20, 2015‎ Kudpung (talk | contribs | block)‎ . . (47 bytes) (+47)‎ . . (Kudpung moved page Kendall wall band to Kendall Wall Band: capitalisation of proper name)''
Note that page names are just about the only thing on Wiki software that can't be edited. If page names are wrong, the page has to be 'moved', which, unless yu are an admin, leaves a redirect behind. For some reason when I moved the page I forgot to delete the redirct - which of course I can do. I'll delete it in a few moments. To get te article assessed, simply go to its parent Wikiproject, look for their assessment template and copy and paste it to the article's talk page. Sooner or later, someone from the project will come along and assess it. If you are a member of that project you can assess it yourself. Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 10:55, 27 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you so much for your help and doing this. I am afraid I just research and write articles I really do not now how to do much more. So I am unsure how I locate the parent Wikiproject and assessment template. thanks T Heart (talk) 12:44, 27 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
What is this about or mean on the Kendall Wall Band article: Use dmy dates|date=September 2015. Its listed in the edit section? ThanksT Heart (talk) 12:53, 27 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I have added the project template and done the assessment. Please remember that with the exception of Good article and Featured article, assessment categories are for project internal prioritizing only and the articles only undergo a very superficial scrutiny. Project assessments have nothing to with approval or deletion of articles. All new articles (around 1,000 a day) are reviewed by New Page Patrollers within minutes of creation; if your article wasn't marked for deletion then, then there wasn't much wrong with it, except in this case, the lack of proper capitalisation which as you saw was promptly addressed. dmy meas 'day, month, year' it is meta information about the article's dating system. Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 22:54, 27 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you much for doing this it is much appreciated. Tonight I would locate the LAC identifier so it was added. T Heart (talk) 23:47, 27 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
