Info on image

[edit]

Hi Travis. Here's some general info about the project that I'm doing. The act is called Federal Aid in Sport Fish Restoration Act, or the Dingell-Johnson Act. This act, passed in 1950, was modeled after the Federal Aid in Wildlife Restoration Act (Pittman Robertson Act) with aim to create a similar program for the management, conservation, and restoration of fishery resources. Funds to support the Federal Aid in Sport Fish Restoration programs are received from excise taxes on fishing equipment, fish finders, motorboat fuels, small engine fuels, and import duties. Tax revenues are transferred to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, which in turn distributes them to the states for recreational sport fishing projects. States receive a share of funding based on the amount of land and water area in the state (40%) and the number of paid recreational fishing license holders (60%). Since 1950, state fish and wildlife agencies have received more than $2.6 billion under the program and have used these funds towards building access sites, purchasing land, and funding fisheries research.
