Omega

Omega
Mega Man Zero series character

Omega (オメガ) is a fictional character in the video game Mega Man Zero and is the central antagonist of Mega Man Zero 3. (Something to note is that in Japan, Zero's full name was supposedly 'Zero Omega'.)

History

[edit]

Omega was an extremely powerful reploid created by the scientist Dr.Weil by modifying Zero's original body sometime before the events of the Elf Wars (a massive world wide battle), which preceded the events of Mega Man Zero and in the timeframe of the Mega Man X series.

According to the Japanese Source book, "Rockman Zero Official Complete Works", sometime during the middle of the Maverick Wars, the Maverick Hunter known as Zero decided to seal himself away for 102 years with the specific intention of "removing" a component that he believed still made him a serious danger (Presumably the Virus and his own unique ability to easily pass it on to other reploids, even against his will). During this time period (which may or may not have lasted the intended 102 years), Zero's mind was removed from his body, and his body and the unique properties of the virus were extensively studied for the sake of eventually creating the unique anti-virus Cyber Elf, known then as the Mother Elf, which eventually was used by X to end the Maverick Wars. Eventually, Dr. Weil located this mindless shell, reprogrammed it with the mind of a new reploid, awakened the body's power to its full potential, and created a massive body of armour to contain Zero's original body within its core and control its massive powers. He named this creation Omega. This body was also intended to be compatible with the Mother Elf/Dark Elf in order to enhance its powers even further. Weil used his creation extensively to cause massive destruction during the world-wide conflict known as the Elf Wars. In response, a copy of Zero's body was created, and Zero's dormant mind was loaded into it so that he could fight against Weil and Omega in the Elf Wars.

Although he was powerful, and wreaked havoc in the Elf Wars, he was defeated soundly by Zero and Megaman X using a Final Strike (this is stated in drama tracks of Remastered Tracks Rockman Zero TELOS) and he was confined to a massive spaceship and sentenced to exile in space, while Weil was banished from Neo Arcadia and forced to live a life of eternal exile.

However, in the events of Mega Man Zero 3, Weil somehow managed to release Omega's ship from orbit and began his plans for revenge on humanity. When the three remaining Guardians came to investigate the crash, Omega promptly fought them and proved to be more than a match for them. He would have killed them outright had Zero not arrived and defeated him. Despite being defeated, however, Omega seemed ready to battle again.

He was promptly stopped by Dr. Weil, who told him that he was to fight with the Guardians from then on as a Neo Arcadian.

Later when Copy X MkII and Dr. Weil found the Dark Elf in a human district, they placed Omega in a gigantic missile and fired him at the Dark Elf's location. Zero attempted to stop it, but failed, and not only did the missile destroy the area but Omega also absorbed the Dark Elf, becoming more powerful, his armour taking on a golden coloration. Harpuia leapt in to try and destroy Omega, but was easily defeated.

Dr. Weil then proceeded to use Omega to take control of all the Reploids in the world with the power of the Dark Elf, until Zero finally confronted him. Zero once again defeated Omega, causing Omega to transform into the three-headed being (with one head being Omega's, another X's, and the third Zero's head). However, Zero once again defeated Omega.

The battle had weakened the floor and both Omega's remains and Zero fell down to the floor below, which just happened to be the area in which Zero had lain dormant for a century or more. Weil then revealed that Zero was using a copied body, and revealed that Omega inhabited Zero's original (and presumably more powerful) body. In the last stage of Mega Man Zero 3, after a long battle, Omega was again defeated and Zero would have finished him off had the Dark Elf not interfered. However, with some help, the Dark Elf was released from her curse and Zero could then destroy his original body and Omega with it.

Personality

[edit]

Omega delights in the ruination of his enemies, and is fiercely loyal to his creator. After his exile, Omega also develops a deep hatred for Zero, as well as an inferiority complex; he thereon endeavors to prove his dominance over Zero. He also becomes quite arrogant after he gains a position of power, but in the end is still defeated. His personality might be what was intended for Zero by Dr. Wily before his awakening prior to Mega Man X.

Mega Man ZX

[edit]

Omega, in Zero's original body, along with several other bosses from the Mega Man Zero series, makes a cameo appearance as a hidden optional boss and corresponding Model (an alternate form the protagonist can transform into) in Mega Man ZX. While fighting Omega Zero, there is a faded cutscene depicting the battle between Zero and Omega; as the latter explodes, the cutscene takes the foreground, and the battleground is displayed in full. Unlike the other Models, the Omega Model is not yielded by a Biometal, but by a "mysterious rock" that Flueve states is functionally similar to a Biometal. [1]

Leviathan

[edit]
Leviathan
Mega Man Zero series character
First gameMega Man Zero
Created byKeiji Inafune

Fairy Leviathan (「妖将」レヴィアタン, "Yōshō" Reviatan, lit. "'Fairy General' Leviathan) is a fictional character in the Mega Man Zero videogame series. In the first game, she was named simply Leviathan. She is leader of the Meikai Gundan ("Army of the Dark Oceans") with the title Yōshō ("Fairy General") for Neo Arcadia. Leviathan's schematics were based on that of X's capabilities of underwater combat. She is one of the Four Guardians (四天王, Shitennō, translated as "The Big Four" in Japan, and literally translating to "Four Heaven Kings" in Chinese) designed to protect Master X. She was fiercely faithful to Master X and oversaw a pupil, Blizack Stagroff.

Character history

[edit]

After Blizzack Stagroff was defeated in Mega Man Zero, Leviathan secured her former pupil's base and used it as a base of operations to hack the Resistance mainframe. She was thwarted by Zero and she herself was defeated. She was defeated again by Zero in Neo Arcadia Core, but rose again to defend the Inner Sanctum of "Area X" where Copy X resided. She was told, along with the other Guardians, to step down however. Copy X was destroyed later.

When Elpizo launched a full frontal assault against Neo Arcadia in Mega Man Zero 2, Leviathan battled with the remaining Guardians and killed the invading force. They would have killed Elpizo too, had Zero not rescued him.

Later when Elpizo tried to infiltrate the Sanctum of Yggdrasil where Original X lay dormant, Leviathan tried to stop him at the Temple of Ice. However, she became infected, possibly with the Baby Elves, though the English Translation of Mega Man Zero 2 makes it sound as if she was infected by some kind of virus. It made her incapable of thinking of anything other than fighting Zero, and helped her transform into a terrifying battle form that resembles a fish, that was eventually defeated.

Though defeated, Leviathan was not destroyed, and later took part in a mission to investigate the wreckage of a crashed spaceship that contained the exiled Reploid, Omega in Mega Man Zero 3. She was heavily damaged in the battle and did not reappear again until the final battle with Omega.

According to the Rockman Zero Official Complete Works artbook, Leviathan, along with Fefnir and Harpuia, died at the end of Mega Man Zero 3 under Omega's explosion.

Other Appearances

[edit]

Leviathan makes an appearance under a different form, Biometal L in Mega Man ZX. Her powers were split in half by Serpent and installed on two Pseudoroids, which were recovered by the protagonists of Mega Man ZX: Aile and Vent. Biometal L is usable by combining it with Biometal X, which creates the water-oriented Model LX.

Leviathan also appears in the Manga adaption of the series. She, like the other generals, was no longer a clone of X but a new type of reploid, incapable of being infected with the maverick virus. She summoned a Dragon to fight Zero at the harbor and apparently knew of his two halves. When the Dragon was destroyed she fled. Later she is seen with the other generals at the meeting and when Zero met Ciel. She was against bringing Zero into Neo Arcadia and later merged with the other Generals to form the "Ultimate Reploid" (Copy X). She, along with the other three, were destroyed by Zero. Her love-hate relationship with Zero carried over from the games and she also seemed to have had some relationship with Blizzak Stagnof.

Pantheon

[edit]
Pantheon
Mega Man Zero series character
First gameMega Man Zero
Created byKeiji Inafune

The Pantheon (パンテオン, officially Romanized Panteon in Japan, although the katakana refer to the Greek term) is a fictional mechaniloid found in the Mega Man Zero video game series.

Description

[edit]

Pantheons are mass produced degraded Reploid copies of either Mega Man X or his replacement Copy X. This is uncertain due to no Pantheon ever having been shown in flashbacks to times before Copy-X's reign.

Pantheons are part of Neo Arcadia's main attack forces and appear in many forms with a variety of different powers. The Pantheons are capable of handling any sort of civilian rebellion forces with ease. However, they do not stand a chance against actual Combat Model Reploids.

Due to their mechanically degraded nature, Pantheons are limited in their mobility; They lack the power of actual combat models, but they're above civilian Reploids. Pantheon jobs range from being soldiers in the battlefield, to being prison guards and police. This ubiquity is most likely the reason for their degraded status, their production costs, production time and energy usage are most likely quite low, allowing for sheer quantity in numbers. This, as well their variety and their above Mechaniloid intelligence make them the perfect warriors to protect humanity and keep the peace in Neo Arcadia.

During the events of the third Megaman Zero game, Dr. Weil took charge of Neo Arcadia. Dr. Weil made sure to replace the Pantheons with his own Variant forces. However, according to "Vile's Incident," the booklet included with RTRZ PHYSIS, the Pantheons still exist. After the events of the fourth ZERO game, each and every Pantheon was disarmed by the survivors of the Ragnarok Incident, finally bringing forth an era of peace. However, Vile's Incident has yet to be translated for the non Japanese public, it is possible the story was simply referring to the disarming of the Neo Arcadian remnants in general and not the Pantheons.

Trivia

[edit]
  • Despite having above Mechaniloid intelligence, just how intelligent the individual Pantheons are is never made clear.
  • In the Rockman Zero manga the Pantheons were capable of speech. In the games only one Pantheon could be heard talking; an aqua Pantheon that was powered up by the Dark Elf. (It can be heard making a giggling noise or grunting proir to certain attacks).
  • The name Pantheon comes from the Greek words 'pan', meaning "all", and 'theos', meaning "gods"; thus their names mean "all gods."
  • In Zero 4, the role of the Pantheons have been replaced by Weil's Variants. However, in Fenri Lunaedge's stage, a small group of scrapped Pantheons appear, and will attack Zero when a certain enemy possesses them.
  • A Pantheon can be spotted in Mega Man ZX next to some trash
  • Originally the Pantheons were going to hold a gun in their hands but in the final version their hand itself is a gun (like X). This however, has subjected them to a common spriting problem: the arm that the Pantheon's gun is on switches position every time they turn around.
  • In Mega Man ZX there's an enemy that looks vaguely similar to a Pantheon, but more similar to a Weil Variant called a Galleon Hunter, with most of the same abilities.
  • In Mega Man ZX in area H, there is a crane that will occasionally pull up a pantheon doll
  • Due to the fact that they have a single eye, it is possible that the Pantheons are a visual throwback to the Classic series villains, the Sniper Joe.

Dr. Weil

[edit]
Dr. Weil
Mega Man Zero series character
First gameMega Man Zero 3
Created byKeiji Inafune

Dr. Weil, or Dr. Vile (Dr.バイル, Dokutā Bairu) in the Japanese versions, is a fictional villain from the Mega Man Zero series of video games. He is not related to Vava/Vile from the Mega Man X series and, contrary to fan speculation, there is no direct evidence that he is Dr. Wily from earlier games. It should be noted that "Weil" is technically a correct translation of Bairu, if assumed it follows German phonetics; however, "Vile" is the name acknowledged by official Japanese media, proven by the fact that the boss logo in Mega Man Zero 4, which is no longer an Omega symbol, is the letter V in the Japanese game (it is changed into W in the English releases).

History

[edit]

After Mega Man X and before Mega Man Zero

[edit]

Dr. Weil, who was born at an unknown date during the Maverick Wars, was a human scientist who participated in the project to design the original Cyber-Elf, the Mother Elf. In this project, Dr. Weil was a coworker and rival of the ancestress of the future resistance leader Ciel, and both of them had significantly different views on how the Maverick Wars should be resolved. Weil made weapons to use against the Mavericks and specialized in Reploid revival, while his partner worked on analyzing the viral energies within Zero's original body (which had been salvaged after he entered a period of stasis) in hopes of finding a cure for the Maverick Virus. Although the Mother Elf was completed and was successfully used by X to end the Maverick Wars and eliminate the virus altogether, Dr. Weil was dissatisfied with these results. He believed that the reploids should pay for the carnage their wars caused and should submit to humanity. Weil eventually took control of the Mother Elf and reprogrammed her, transforming her into the Dark Elf, thus triggering the horrifying Elf Wars.

Additionally, seeing as how the body's original consciousness had been removed, Dr. Weil successfully used his retained genius to steal and fully repair Zero's original body and give it a new identity, Omega. With the Dark Elf to control Earth's Reploids and Omega to destroy any and all who opposed him, Weil nearly destroyed the entire planet.

By the time X and Zero (now in a new copy body built by an unknown party) were able to end the war, it had decimated 90% of all reploids and 60% of humans in its flames. Omega was eventually disabled by X and Zero, and his remains were sealed and launched into orbit.

Meanwhile, for his crimes back on Earth, Weil was sentenced to be contained within a biomechanical suit that would prevent him from deterioration and death. He was then exiled to the wastelands he had made, never to age or die, but only suffer eternally therein. Having been exiled, Dr. Weil began to plot his revenge on humans and reploid alike.[1]

Mega Man Zero 2

[edit]

Dr. Weil is first mentioned in the ending sequence of Mega Man Zero 2 as the man who placed a curse on the Mother Elf, thus turning her into the Dark Elf. He can also be heard (but not seen) talking to Omega after the credits.

Mega Man Zero 3

[edit]

Weil makes his reappearance from his imposed exile at the end of the game's opening stage,[2] with a supposedly resurrected Copy X.

Near the end of the Maverick Wars, Weil used the Dark Elf and copies of her, the Baby Elves, to seize control of the Reploids. He also constructed the devilish Reploid known as Omega, whom was defeated by X and Zero with a Final Strike [3] and exiled into space as punishment.[4]

In the game, Copy X makes Weil the Leader of the Neo Arcadian Army.[5] He leads the search for the Dark Elf and the Baby Elves and eventually combines Omega with the Dark Elf. Weil eventually kills Copy X with a booby trap on his body that detonates when he attempts to access his Seraph form.

With Copy X dead, Dr. Weil invokes Ordinance #8 and becomes Leader of Neo Arcadia by unanimous vote.[6] He then uses Neo Arcadia's resources as he sees fit, to gain control of Reploids through the combined powers of the Dark Elf and Omega,[7] in order to punish the citizens of Neo Arcadia for his banishment.

Though Zero destroys Omega in the end of the game, Weil remains Ruler of Neo Arcadia.

Mega Man Zero 4

[edit]

The fourth game in the series begins with the premise of Weil as absolute Ruler of Neo Arcadia. Under his rule, humans and Reploids are equally oppressed, with all those that oppose him labelled as Mavericks.[8] His reign of terror became so unbearable that in Mega Man Zero 4, a group of humans escaped to Area Zero, where the remains of the Eurasia space colony not only crashed, but also helped revive vegetation.[9]

Seeing Area Zero as a threat, Weil devises Operation Ragnarok to obliterate it, thus forcing people to live in Neo Arcadia. The plan involved distracting the Resistance with half-hearted attempts to destroy the ecology in Area Zero, whilst he completed the Ragnarok Satellite and its huge Energy Cannon.

He was prevented from firing it by Craft, who ended up firing it at Dr. Weil himself, destroying Neo Arcadia and killing many civilians.

Unfortunately, Dr. Weil survives and appears as the Final Boss. He attributes his survival to his regenerative armor, which the humans of the time put him in before his exile. Weil states that it can heal all wounds and prevented him from dying. Additionally, to ensure that he would never forget his crimes, the humans also turned his memories into data and preserved them within this apparently partially metallic and partially carbonic body.

In the end he decides to crash Ragnarok into Area Zero [10],[11] and when Zero confronts him, he merges with the Ragnarok Core in order to defeat the Reploid.

However, after defeating him once, Weil comes back. Eventually, Zero decides to destroy the Core, destroying Ragnarok, Weil, and (presumably) himself along with it.[12]

Mega Man ZX

[edit]

It is possible that Dr. Weil returned as the major evil of Mega Man ZX, in the form of the Biometal Model W (Model V in the Japanese version). Model W is the original Biometal, formed from the pieces of Ragnarok, which Dr. Weil fused with, that fell to Earth at the end of Mega Man Zero 4. Sometime after the end of Mega Man Zero 4, the original commander of the Guardians (Ciel) analyzed data collected from Model W and learned that Model W has the ability to drive both Machines and Humans to madness. In response, she built the six Biometals (those used in the game) to stop Model W.

A decade prior to Mega Man ZX, a small fragment is found by Serpent. The power of Model W led Serpent to create various Maverick out-breaks, and, in turn, form Slither Inc. to stop the Mavericks, which caused many Cyber Elves to be released from the deaths of the victims. These Cyber Elves are then captured and used to "awaken" Model W at the end of the game.

However, in Aile's story, Prometheus and Pandora, two major antagonists, state that Serpent, the hero, themselves and even Model W are but pawns to " the man who created Model W", thus suggesting Dr. Weil and Model W are two separately conscious beings.

On the other hand, In Vent's story, Model W is directly stated to be "the soul" of Doctor Weil contained in "the pieces of Ragnarok that fell to Earth." Although whether this refers to the Model W Core, or to the fragment possessed by Serpent, is not clear.

It is hoped that this confusion will be clarified in future games.

Phantom

[edit]
Phantom
Mega Man Zero series character
First gameMega Man Zero
Created byKeiji Inafune

Phantom (「隠将」ファントム, "Inshō" Fantomu, lit. "'Shadow General' Phantom") is a fictional video game character in the video game Mega Man Zero. Phantom was Head of the Zan'ei Gundan ("Shadow-Slashing Army") with the title of Inshō ("Shadow General"), which, unlike the titles of the other Guardians, was not given an official English translation, for Neo Arcadia. Phantom's schematics were based on that of X's capabilities of stealth. He is one of the Four Guardians (四天王, Shitennō, translated as "The Big Four" in Japan) of Copy X and oversaw his pupils, Hanumachine and Tech Kraken.

History

[edit]

Phantom was one of four Reploids modelled after the robot Mega Man X. His first appearance in Mega Man Zero was against Zero in a Factory captured by the Resistance. Zero fought him to a standstill, but Phantom turned the tables when he informed Zero that the had planted bombs all over the factory. Zero found them and disposed of them, and later defeated Phantom's closest apprentice, Hanumachine.

When he confronted Zero again in Neo Arcadia's Core, he was again defeated, but this time self-destructed in hopes that his explosion would harm Zero. Zero escaped, however, and went on to defeat Copy X.

After his death, Phantom's spirit entered cyberspace, where he would encounter Zero in his third adventure.

In Mega Man Zero 3, if Zero entered Cyberspace in the Sub Arcadia Level, a secret door would appear that would lead him into a confrontation with Phantom. In Cyberspace, the world where all data is sent along with reploids after death, Phantom learned all truths about the past. He claimed Zero never had the strength within him to be a hero. However, Phantom recanted, after being defeated by Zero, and encouraged Zero to cross blades with Omega to prove himself once and for all.

After his battle with Zero, Phantom met up with Cyber Elf X, with whom he went to help the two guardians, Fefnir and Leviathan, who were reaching critical state from their battle with Omega earlier on in Mega Man Zero 3. X helped the two recover, as Zero started his battle with Omega, convincing them, and later Harpuia to help Zero. Phantom didn't appear to help due to his status.

In Mega Man Zero 4, Phantom, perhaps with X's help, found a way to project himself into the real world so that he could watch the descent of Ragnarok as Zero did battle with Dr. Weil. This final event was depicted in the Vile's Incident Booklet included with RTRZ Physis. Interestingly enough, Phantom, along with the other 3 Guardians, updated their wardrobes with capes matching their armor in color, each with an X symbol on the back. However, in the recently released Rockman Zero Complete Works, developers behind the game state this piece is nothing more than fan service.

Personality

[edit]

Phantom's major trait is his unwavering allegiance to his master, X, displaying more loyalty than his three counterparts (none of whom were willing to sacrifice their lives in order to protect X). His sacrifice may be considered admirable, despite the flawed nature of its cause.

Other Appearances

[edit]

Phantom also appears in Mega Man ZX as the Biometal P. In ZX he is fiercely loyal to Biometal X, much like his Reploid counterpart. P and X also combine to become the stealth-oriented Model PX.

Phantom, like the other generals, also makes an appearance in the Manga adaption of the series. In this he was one of the new generation reploids. He fought Zero in the city streets and killed a reploid helping Zero. When Zero finally realised the full momentum of the situation he battled with Phantom, destroying the latter with his shield boomerang. It later turned out that Phantom escaped with nijutsu by replacing himself with a log. Phantom opposed Harpuia bringing Zero into Neo Arcadia and later merged with the other Generals to from the ultimate reploid(copy X). He was later destroyed, along with the other three generals, when the reploid was destroyed. Due to his first "death" he was constantly paranoid about the others teasing him, which caused him to keep repeating the phrase "I was not defeated!" over and over again.

Harpuia

[edit]
Sage Harpuia
Mega Man Zero series character
First gameMega Man Zero
Created byKeiji Inafune

Sage Harpuia (「賢将」ハルピュイア, "Kenshō" Harupyuia, lit. "'Sage General' Harpuia") is a fictional character in the Mega Man Zero video game series. He is voiced by Megumi Ogata. Harpuia is leader of the Neo Arcadia Rekkū Gundan ("Army of the Fierce Sky") with the title of Kenshō ("Sage General"). Harpuia's schematics were based on that of X's capabilities of air combat. He is one of the Four Guardians (四天王, Shitennō, translated as "The Big Four" in Japan) in the J of Copy X and oversaw a pupil, Herculious Anchus. Like the other Guardians, Harpuia is fiercely loyal to X and Neo Arcadia.

Character history

[edit]

Before the storyline of Mega Man Zero, Harpuia led an expedition to a Sunken Library (the same Sunken Library that appears in Mega Man Zero 3) to retrieve data from the ruins. Within this expedition was the Reploid, TK-31, whom later adopted the name Elpizo..[1]

Harpuia's first appearance is in Mega Man Zero, where he killed an entire Resistance Team on the ruins of a highway and nearly killed a Reploid named Colbor, had Zero not intervened.

As a faithful Guardian, he defended "Area X" where Copy X resided but was defeated in the end of the first game. After his defeat, he once again leapt to defend Copy X from Zero but was told to stand down by his Master and did so. Copy X was defeated soon after.

With the defeat of Copy X, Harpuia was appointed Leader of Neo Arcadia by the Neo Arcadian Government in Mega Man Zero 2. Under his guidance, Neo Arcadia continued to route out the Resistance, though surprisingly, it was he who found Zero unconscious in the desert and returned him to the new Resistance Base established by Elpizo. When Elpizo tried to infiltrate the sanctum of Neo Arcadia for the power of the Dark Elf, which was out of bounds even to Neo Arcadia's Highest Executives, Harpuia rushed to the Temple of Wind to halt Elpizo's progress in his Armed Phenomenon which resembles a flying machine.

He succumbed to the power of Baby Cyber Elves, however, and was forced to fight Zero whilst Elpizo made his escape. After his defeat by Zero's hand, he pleaded with Zero to protect X's body upon being defeated.

In Mega Man Zero 3, Harpuia recovered after his defeat at the Temple of Wind and later took part in a Mission to investigate a fallen spaceship, in which resided the banished Reploid, Omega. He defeated Omega, but ceased his attack when Copy X-MkII and Dr. Weil interceded. Harpuia reluctantly followed the new Copy X and Dr. Weil, but the relationship was filled with tension from the start. When Weil fired a missile containing Omega into a human settlement, Harpuia rebelled and fought against the improved Omega.

Omega defeated Harpuia and through the rest of the events of Mega Man Zero 3, Harpuia underwent repairs in the Resistance Base. After the repairs were complete, Harpuia initially refused to stay with the Resistance and work with them, but appeared during the last battle against Omega to help Zero.

Harpuia did not appear in Mega Man Zero 4, but it is clear that he was not in Neo Arcadia when Craft destroyed it from Ragnarok. Artwork from the Remastered Rockman Track - Physis clearly shows the Three Guardians along with the cyber-projections of Original X and Phantom (the Fourth Guardian), watching the remnants of Ragnarok falling from the sky. However, in an interview with the producers of the game in the Official Complete Works artbook, this artwork is nothing more than just a 'Service Cut', a.k.a Fan Service.

According to the Rockman Zero Official Complete Works artbook, Harpuia, along with Fefnir and Leviathan, died at the end of Megaman Zero 3 under Omega's explosion.

Other Appearances

[edit]

Harpuia has his own mini-game in MMZ3 in which he rides Aztec Falcon, a boss in MMZ1 and seen with him on it in MMZ2.

In Mega Man ZX, the player finds two halves of a Biometal H, which after combining it with Biometal X becomes Model HX, a "Mega Man of Wind" resembling Harpuia's form. Biometal H may be Harpuia in some form or way, as it claims that it fought for humans centuries ago.

Harpuia also appears in the manga adaption of the series. He was the final general to fight Zero and the first to use cyber elves. He's no longer based off X, but a new generation reploid, incapable of being infected with the maverick virus. His personality departs from his game counterpart as he carelessly uses Cyber Elves, stating that they were mere programs, not lifeforms. He, however, still respects Zero and offered Zero a position within the Generals. His naive nature later catches up as Zero takes Cial(Ciel's evil twin) hostage. Only through bartering Lito for Cial did he get her out of the way. He later merged with the other three generals to form the "ultimate reploid" and was destroyed by Zero.

Trivia

[edit]
  • The gender of Harpuia was highly debated over when he first appeared. Due to his appearance and how he spoke most people assumed Harpuia was a girl. This was disproved when Rockman Zero 2 came out though. his speech was not a girl's, just a young man's.

Ciel

[edit]
Ciel
Mega Man Zero series character
First gameMega Man Zero
Created byKeiji Inafune

Ciel (シエル, Shieru) is a fictional character in the Mega Man Zero video game series. Her name means "sky" in French. She is voiced by Rie Tanaka.

Character history

[edit]

Ciel is a human and former Reploid researcher that worked for Neo Arcadia. When Mega Man X disappeared eight years before the events of Mega Man Zero begins, Ciel created Copy X to replace him. [1] Amazingly, Ciel is supposed to be aged 14 during Mega Man Zero, which means she built Copy X at the age of 6, making her a child prodigy. According to the "Rockman Zero Official Complete Works" Japanese source book, she was genetically modified for an unknown purpose before her birth, which is what allowed her to attain such a high level of knowledge at such a young age. Additionally, one of her ancestors, another female scientist, was apparently directly responsible for the creation of the original Mother Elf, from which all other cyber elves were spawned.

However, when the Neo Arcadia government began oppressing and executing Reploids to solve their energy crisis, Ciel migrated with Reploid refugees to a ruined city. Knowing they were being falsely accused, she decided she could not stand by helplessly, and she soon became somewhat of a mother figure to many of the Reploid refugees, particularly a young girl she named Alouette. Times grew more desperate, though, and she eventually found her only hope to be uncovering a legendary hero that most people didn't even believe in anymore: the legendary Maverick Hunter Zero. She sought and eventually found him, though it took the sacrifice of one of her Cyber-Elves, Passy, to wake him up.

Mega Man Zero 1

Zero, whose memory was blank possibly due to "hibernation sickness", helped Ciel escape and then helped her with several missions for the Resistance. He kept protecting her dutifully, until he finally brought down Copy X.

After the fall of Copy X, Ciel and her band of Resistance members left their ruined base and joined up with another opposition group. Since that time, she has set herself to work on discovering a new source of energy to bring about peace, and handed off the reigns of running the Resistance off to Elpizo. With Zero's return to the Resistance, she redoubled her efforts to bring about peace.

Mega Man Zero 2

During the time period covered in the second game of the Zero series, Ciel researched the possibility of using two Baby Elves as a source of energy. This system was not completed until some time between the second and third games, and was called the "Ciel System".

Mega Man Zero 3

By the beginning of the third game, Ciel had completed the selftitled Ciel System and had sent the ruling body of government of Neo Arcadia notes describing the new energy system. Shortly after this, the scientist Dr. Weil assumed control of Neo Arcadia and attempted to force her to give him the system. Zero once again protected her and the Resistance from the forces of Neo Arcadia. Though defeated, Weil still controlled Neo Arcadia. Ciel, seeing this, decided to reform the Resistance Base into a mobile unit, able to travel to wherever they were needed.

Mega Man Zero 4

As the fourth game began, Ciel, Zero, and the Resistance came across a human caravan fleeing Neo Arcadia. It is then explained that Dr. Weil controlled Neo Arcadia since Copy X's departure, and that they escaped because the once human nirvana had become dangerous thanks to Weil's rule. Even though the human refugees didn't appreciate their help, partially because of the Resistance's cooperation with reploids, Ciel asked Zero to aid them anyway. Working as the Resistance Base leader this time, Ciel helps Zero to stop Weil's new device, The Ragnarok, from destroying the new human encampment at Area Zero, which also happened to be where the Eurasia Colony fell at the end of X5. After a lengthy battle with Weil on the Ragnarok itself, they manage to save the humans and free Neo Arcadia from the clutches of Dr. Weil.

With this, peace between humans and Reploids had finally been achieved after their hundreds of years of war. Yet the price was heavy as Zero dies on Ragnarok when it breaks apart and burns to bits in the atmosphere. Despite Zero's habit of resurrecting, it is decidedly impossible for him to have survived this time. Yet he had finally achieved the ultimate peace that X had been searching for ever since the beginning.

During the fourth game's credits, Ciel falls on her knees and cries from Zero's death as Ragnarok's pieces fell from the starlit sky. At the credit's end, she stands up strong and dries her tears, promising to the missing Zero that she would not make Zero's sacrifice to have been in vain and that she would keep the eternal peace between humans and Reploids that Zero had finally been able to create. She then finalizes by saying that she knows Zero is still alive somewhere, and that she knows he will come back because she believes in him.

The fourth game's final scene shows Zero's broken helmet, lying on the broken ground where Ragnarok's pieces fell - with Zero nowhere in sight.

Mega Man ZX

[edit]

In Mega Man ZX, it is revealed through recovered Data Disks that Ciel went missing shortly after discovering Model W and creating the six Biometals in response. Ciel is also revealed as the 'Sis' of Prairie, the commander of the Guardians, though they are not biological sisters. It is strongly hinted that Prairie is actually Allouette, due to this relationship with Ciel being identical to Alloutte's, as well as general similarities between Prairie and Allouette's character designs. In particular, they carry the same stuffed animal.

Cerveau

Cerveau (セルヴォ, Seruvo) is a fictional video game character in the Mega Man Zero series. His name translated from French is "brain".

History

[edit]

Cerveau was a Reploid engineer who was exiled with the Resistance. Since that time, though, he felt somewhat inadequate at his job. It was his development of Zero's weapons that made him regain his confidence and make a real difference to the world.

Personality

[edit]

Cerveau is busy and hard-working, but felt he didn't match up to necessity in his engineering skills. Though he was doubtful at first that Zero was who he seemed, he was also fascinated with the potential energy of his weaponry. He developed the weaponry and later admitted that he believed Zero's identity, and had regained his confidence by designing such weapons as the Shield Boomerang and Triple Rod. He claims he has had ideas stolen before and that, it seems, may have been what shattered his confidence, making him unenthused about his job and, he claims, sloppy. With Zero's return in Mega Man Zero 2, he is greatly enthused to be working with him again, albeit slightly disappointed that Zero managed to destroy all of his weaponry in the previous year.

Dark Elf

The Dark Elf (ダークエルフ, Dākuerufu, Romanized Darkelf in Japan) or Mother Elf (マザーエルフ, Mazāerufu, Romanized Motherelf in Japan) is a Cyber Elf in the video game series Mega Man Zero.

History

[edit]

Before the events of the video game Mega Man Zero, The Mother Elf was created as the ultimate weapon during the era of Cyber Elf development, towards the end of the Maverick Wars, a fictional world wide battle that occurred in the Mega Man X video game series. As revealed in Rockman Zero Official Complete Works, she was created from the Maverick Virus data in Zero's body, as a "Sigma Antibody Program" capable of couteracting the Maverick Virus and Sigma's DNA. This was not the first attempt made to counteract the threat of the Virus; however it was the first of such attempts to actually be successful on a large scale. According to legend, Mega Man X used the power of this Elf to finally destroy the Maverick Virus' negative attributes for good, thus ending the Maverick Wars. The fighting did not cease, however.

Following the construction of Neo Arcadia, the Elf was stolen from a laboratory by the evil Dr. Weil, who reportedly placed a "curse" on her. Dr. Weil then used her to instigate the Elf Wars. As revealed in Mega Man Zero 3, This period was so violent that 90% of all Reploids and 60% of all humans were killed. X and Zero together stopped Weil and his reploid Omega, and after Zero went to sleep for 100 years, X sealed the Elf away at the base of Yggdrasil for good using his own body as the seal.

The Elf then disappeared into myth and legend along with Zero for 100 years, until the commander of the Resistance, Elpizo, sought to gain the power of the Elf in the events of Mega Man Zero 2. This quest led Elpizo to seek out two Baby Elves, which in turn led him to an area deep inside Neo Arcadia, where he destroyed the original X's body and released the Dark Elf. The Elf gave Elpizo powers, but not enough with which to defeat Zero. After healing Elpizo and turning him into a Cyber Elf, the Dark Elf vanished after faintly saying "... Zero...".

The Dark Elf was seen again in various forms of prominence during Mega Man Zero 3, mostly tying into the mysterious Dr. Weil. It was Neo Arcadia's goal to recapture the Dark Elf, and Dr. Weil, an exile from 100 years prior, returned with his creation Omega under false pretenses of helping Neo Arcadia capture the Elf, when all he really wanted was to use the powers of the Elf for his own purposes. Zero saw through the facade, and defeated Weil's reconstructed Copy X while hunting the Dark Elf. At the end of his journey, Zero encountered the Elf once more, in which it powered up his original body (inhabited by Omega). Upon Omega's ultimate defeat, the curse of Weil was finally broken, and the Dark Elf became good once again.

Personality

[edit]

The Dark Elf doesn't seem to have much of a personality other than the fact that it knows little more than destruction and death. She does, however, speak of Zero, and it almost seems that she is calling Zero to do something, perhaps to help her. At the end of Mega Man Zero 2, she turned good briefly to allow Elpizo to survive in the form of a Cyber Elf. This trait in itself shows the Dark Elf's true personality shining past her wretched curse. During Zero 3, more of this personality was shown as the curse was finally broken. It has been speculated that the Mother Elf could be based off of Iris from Megaman X4; the fact that she turns Elpizo in to a Cyber Elf suggests that she may herself be a former Reploid, and Zero briefly mentions at the end of Megaman Zero 2 that he "feels that he knows her," implying he may have known her before she was a Cyber Elf. After being "saved" from death, Elpizo declares "she is not evil..." and, ironically and possibly symbolically, the Mother Elf changes into the Dark Elf against her will. This theory was very popular at one time, however it is dispeled by Rockman Zero Official Complete Works (released in 2006), which states that the Mother Elf was originally created from the Maverick Virus data in Zero's body, and therefore she is not a former Reploid.

Kraft

Craft (クラフト, Kurafuto, Romanized Kraft in Japan) is a character in the Mega Man Zero series. It should be noted that "Kraft" is an actual German name; a safe assumption regarding the English name would be either mistranslation or avoidance of a copyright conflict with the Kraft Food Company.

History

[edit]

Before the events of Mega Man Zero 3, Craft is a high-ranking soldier for Neo Arcadia. Dutifully following orders and eliminating "Mavericks" as directed by his superiors, he believed in the system as true peace and upheld its laws as just. Sometime in his service, he met the reporter Neige, whom he developed feelings for.

After Dr. Weil forcefully took over Neo Arcadia in Mega Man Zero 3 (by murdering Copy X), he began to decimate humans and Reploids alike, punishing them in his thirst for revenge. However, unlike other generals in the army, Craft took in Weil's violent revenge as the way for a true Utopia, and became his general of the Einherjar army, in order to execute Ragnarok in the events of Mega Man Zero 4. This plan consisted of destroying Area Zero with an immense satellite, forcing them to return to Neo Arcadia.

However, this met with failure, as Zero encountered and defeated he and his team twice, with Craft dying in the second encounter.

Personality

[edit]

On one hand, Craft can be considered a normal soldier intent on the following of orders. He commands his team effectively, is subject to higher command, and so on. On the other hand, he is dedicated to upholding his belief of peace and to a greater extent, protecting Neige. He realizes, however, that some sacrifices have to be made for the greater good, and that someone has to make them. His actions concerning the attacks on Area Zero and the execution of Ragnarok are supported by this.
