Protected talk pages
Hello, you protected Talk:Two-state solution and Talk:Canada Park in April 2016 to implement an arbitration ruling that no longer appears to be in force. Is there any reason to keep the pages protected? 67.180.143.89 (talk) 04:18, 2 April 2023 (UTC)
- It was superseded by WP:ARBPIA4. The problem still exists and I cannot imagine that ARBPIA4 will be eliminated anytime soon. I will not unprotect these pages at this time. Katietalk 12:59, 2 April 2023 (UTC)
- You understand that a general prohibition against unregistered users is not part of the current ruling, as it was then? 67.180.143.89 (talk) 14:43, 2 April 2023 (UTC)
- I was on the Arbitration Committee for ARBPIA4, so yeah, I understand exactly what it says. I'm going to point you to WP:PIA, which is a condensed version of applicable sanctions in this topic area. It includes the 500/30 restriction. That's the end of this discussion. Now go find an article to improve, because this litany of frivolous requests to multiple admins to unprotect pages, with no constructive editing on your part, makes me wonder why you're here if it's not to cause disruption. Katietalk 17:51, 2 April 2023 (UTC)
- That's quite unprovoked. I'm just following a procedure and several of the requests have been accepted, so they at least were not "frivolous" and to say that I have done no constructive editing is groundless. I recognize your discretion for these two pages. 67.180.143.89 (talk) 18:26, 2 April 2023 (UTC)

- A community RfC is open to discuss whether reports primarily involving gender-related disputes or controversies should be referred to the Arbitration enforcement noticeboard.
- Some older web browsers will not be able to use JavaScript on Wikimedia wikis starting this week. This mainly affects users of Internet Explorer 11. (T178356)
- The rollback of Vector 2022 RfC has found no consensus to rollback to Vector legacy, but has found rough consensus to disable "limited width" mode by default.
- A link to the user's Special:CentralAuth page will now appear in the subtitle links shown on Special:Contributions. This was voted #17 in the Community Wishlist Survey 2023.
- The Armenia-Azerbaijan 3 case has been closed.
- A case about World War II and the history of Jews in Poland has been opened, with the first evidence phase closing 6 April 2023.
Page Undeletion and Page Creation.
Hello Katie,
I have a question about the page “Jaan Nissar Lone” who is a very notable figure in Kashmiri Sufi music. However due to malacious activity around his page, the page has been administrator protected. I tried to reach out to editors in the list who after long discussions on their talkback page found the person both notable and legitimate. But it looks like they might not have the necessary privileges. Can you please tell me who to reach out to or how to proceed in order to undelete the page or have the admin protected removed ?
thank you hz Hazytalks (talk) 13:25, 10 April 2023 (UTC)

- Following an RfC, editors indefinitely site-banned by community consensus will now have all rights, including sysop, removed.
- As a part of the Wikimedia Foundation's IP Masking project, a new policy has been created that governs the access to temporary account IP addresses. An associated FAQ has been created and individual communities can increase the requirements to view temporary account IP addresses.
- Bot operators and tool maintainers should schedule time in the coming months to test and update their tools for the effects of IP masking. IP masking will not be deployed to any content wiki until at least October 2023 and is unlikely to be deployed to the English Wikipedia until some time in 2024.
- The arbitration case World War II and the history of Jews in Poland has been closed. The topic area of Polish history during World War II (1933-1945) and the history of Jews in Poland is subject to a "reliable source consensus-required" contentious topic restriction.
- Following a community referendum, the arbitration policy has been modified to remove the ability for users to appeal remedies to Jimbo Wales.

- Contributions to the English Wikipedia are now released under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International License (CC BY-SA 4.0) license instead of CC BY-SA 3.0. Contributions are still also released under the GFDL license.
- Discussion is open regarding a proposed global policy regarding third-party resources. Third-party resources are computer resources that reside outside of Wikimedia production websites.
- Two arbitration cases are currently open. Proposed decisions are expected 5 July 2023 for the Scottywong case and 9 July 2023 for the AlisonW case.
About the Ghost Town article
I don't really understand why my section got taken down, I was only trying to support someone that had gotten mistreated by the main singer, and that it isn't very public. I would just like to have a bit of an explaination for why I can't bring light to this.
Thanks Katie, and just know I am just asking!
SneakyCrow (talk) 00:21, 4 July 2023 (UTC)
- You made a serious allegation about a living person that is not supported by any reliable source. Reddit and TikTok are not sources. If you cannot understand that we cannot allow libelous statements like yours, please stop editing here. Katietalk 13:59, 4 July 2023 (UTC)
It said that the IP was blocked for 3 months by you. Why? I only saw him talk to a random person who looks like me. (because I liked copyediting him) And I never saw him have disruptive edits. Whats the reason for that? PotassiumLover72 talk 08:25, 11 July 2023 (UTC)
- That's a range block. When you're looking at a block notice for an IP, you need to look at all the information in the box; pay attention to what I actually blocked instead of making assumptions. Click on the 209.35.160.0/20 link in the red box and you should see quickly why he's blocked. Sorry that your guy is caught up in it, but legitimate editors from that range can contact WP:ACC and ask to have an account created for them. Katietalk 13:55, 13 July 2023 (UTC)

In July 2015 around 15.5% of the English Wikipedia's biographies were about women. As of July 2023, 19.61% of the English Wikipedia's biographies are about women. That's a lot of biographies created in the effort to close the gender gap. Happy 8th Anniversary! Join us for some virtual cake and add comments or memories and please keep on editing to close the gap! |

Interface administrator changes
- The tag filter on Special:NewPages and revision history pages can now be inverted. This allows hiding edits made by automated tools. (T334338)
- Special:BlockedExternalDomains is a new tool that allows easier blocking of plain domains (and their subdomains). This is more easily searchable and is faster for the software to use than the existing MediaWiki:Spam-blacklist. It does not support regex (for complex cases), URL path-matching, or the MediaWiki:Spam-whitelist. (T337431)
- The arbitration cases named Scottywong and AlisonW closed 10 July and 16 July respectively.
- The SmallCat dispute arbitration case is in the workshop phase.

- Following an RfC, TFAs will be automatically semi-protected the day before it is on the main page and through the day after.
- A discussion at WP:VPP about revision deletion and oversight for dead names found that
[s]ysops can choose to use revdel if, in their view, it's the right tool for this situation, and they need not default to oversight. But oversight could well be right where there's a particularly high risk to the person. Use your judgment
.
- Special:Contributions now shows the user's local edit count and the account's creation date. (T324166)
- The SmallCat dispute case has closed. As part of the final decision, editors participating in XfD have been reminded to be careful about forming
local consensus which may or may not reflect the broader community consensus
. Regular closers of XfD forums were also encouraged tonote when broader community discussion, or changes to policies and guidelines, would be helpful
.
- Tech tip: The "Browse history interactively" banner shown at the top of Special:Diff can be used to easily look through a history, assemble composite diffs, or find out what archive something wound up in.

My Deleted Page
I need a little help. A few years ago I made the mistake of trying to create my own Wikipedia page, without knowing that it was, essentially, forbidden. It was, in fact, up for a while. Now it is not. https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Rich_Brownstein
I was honored as the keynote speaker in June 2022 at the 36th Annual Conference of the Association of Holocaust Organizations in Charlotte, and as a speaker at the Association of Jewish Libraries’ annual conference in Philadelphia, and at the Elie Wiesel Center for Jewish Studies at Boston University on Yom HaShoah. I have presented virtually for numerous organizations, including the American Jewish University, B’nai B’rith International, Classrooms Without Borders, the International March of the Living, the National Library of Israel and UCLA. I also presented a webinar for Echoes & Reflections, the joint project of Yad Vashem, the Anti-Defamation League, and the USC Shoah Foundation. Many of my articles have been published in The Jerusalem Post. I was also honored by Israeli President Isaac Herzog at a visit to his office in recognition of my book and dedication to Holocaust education.
I have been noted in many Wikipedia pages by others: https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lena_K%C3%BCchler-Silberman https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/The_Last_Butterfly https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anne_Frank_Video-Tagebuch https://ru.wikipedia.org/wiki/%D0%A0%D1%83%D0%B7%D0%BE%D0%B2%D0%B8%D1%86%D0%BA%D0%B8,_%D0%A8%D1%82%D0%B5%D1%84%D0%B0%D0%BD https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Romed_Wyder https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Sleepless_in_Seattle
And I have been cited in the New York Times: https://www.nytimes.com/2022/04/27/movies/survivor-harry-haft.html
Some articles have also been written about me: https://www.jta.org/2021/10/01/culture/this-professor-has-seen-almost-every-holocaust-movie-ever-made-totaling-over-400-heres-what-he-learned https://medium.com/authority-magazine/social-impact-authors-how-why-rich-brownstein-is-helping-to-change-our-world-4a103ce1ecb0 https://deborahkalbbooks.blogspot.com/2021/11/q-with-rich-brownstein.html
And I have been on many podcasts. https://www.holocaustfilms.com/podcasts
Can you please help me resurrect my page? Hopefully I am now notable enough.
Thanks so much for your time.

- Yes, I am aware of the initial error. Nonetheless, two things can be true at once: 1) a few years ago I mistakenly created the page and 2) I am notable enough to have a page because I am considered to be the world's foremost expert about Holocaust films.
