Administrators' newsletter – August 2022
News and updates for administrators from the past month (July 2022).
- An RfC has been closed with consensus to add javascript that will show edit notices for editors editing via a mobile device. This only works for users using a mobile browser, so iOS app editors will still not be able to see edit notices.
- An RfC has been closed with the consensus that train stations are not inherently notable.
- The Wikimania 2022 Hackathon will take place virtually from 11 August to 14 August.
- Administrators will now see links on user pages for "Change block" and "Unblock user" instead of just "Block user" if the user is already blocked. (T308570)
- The arbitration case request Geschichte has been automatically closed after a 3 month suspension of the case.
- You can vote for candidates in the 2022 Board of Trustees elections from 16 August to 30 August. Two community elected seats are up for election.
- Wikimania 2022 is taking place virtually from 11 August to 14 August. The schedule for wikimania is listed here. There are also a number of in-person events associated with Wikimania around the world.
- Tech tip: When revision-deleting on desktop, hold ⇧ Shift between clicking two checkboxes to select every box in that range.
Restore protection
Can you restore this protection? The sock is back and disrupting. NavjotSR (talk) 17:38, 27 August 2022 (UTC)
- @NavjotSR: Why are you simply removing my edits with a single commant "reverted sock".
- @KrakatoaKatie: NavjotSR is simply removing my edits. I added contents with reliable sources. Why he is saying reverted sock?
I added more than 5500 bytes. All are with reliable sources. Arjayay already cleanuped this article. Geniac have already removed many unreliable sources, I not added that. But NavjotSR reverted including Arjayay, Geniac and Citation boy's edits. Please don't remove my edits. Because all are reliable. 103.166.244.134 (talk) 01:06, 28 August 2022 (UTC)
- IP, he's saying 'reverted sock' because there have been serial attempts for years to use this article to flatter and praise, instead presenting a neutral encyclopedia article. Keep it up and you'll get blocked. @NavjotSR: Previous indefinite semi-protection restored. If ECP is needed again, please request it at RFPP because I'm not here that regularly this month. Katietalk 03:14, 28 August 2022 (UTC)
- @KrakatoaKatie: Now I don't have any problem with the article. Because all contents are in the article with reliable sources. If NavjotSR again remove my edits I'll have problem. And, I'm not anybody's sock. I'm only IP. So please don't remove my edits saying 'reverted block'. Thank you. 103.166.244.24 (talk) 06:32, 28 August 2022 (UTC)
- The claim that I "already cleanuped this article"[sic] is simply untrue. My sole edit was to change recieved > received, whilst I was clearing a backlog of "recieved" misspellings - I would have looked at the sentence the misspelling was in, nothing more. - Arjayay (talk) 10:21, 28 August 2022 (UTC)
Please take this conversation to the article talk page. Katietalk 11:50, 28 August 2022 (UTC)

Correction to previous election announcement
Just a quick correction to the prior message about the 2022 MILHIST coordinator election! I (Hog Farm) didn't proofread the message well enough and left out a link to the election page itself in this message. The voting will occur here; sorry about the need for a second message and the inadvertent omission from the prior one. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 17:41, 15 September 2022 (UTC)

Administrators' newsletter – October 2022
News and updates for administrators from the past month (September 2022).
- Following an RfC, consensus was found that if the rationale for a block depends on information that is not available to all administrators, that information should be sent to the Arbitration Committee, a checkuser or an oversighter for action (as applicable, per ArbCom's recent updated guidance) instead of the administrator making the block.
- Following an RfC, consensus has been found that, in the context of politics and science, the reliability of FoxNews.com is unclear and that additional considerations apply to its use.
- Community comment on the revised Universal Code of Conduct enforcement guidelines is requested until 8 October.
- The Articles for creation helper script now automatically recognises administrator accounts which means your name does not need to be listed at WP:AFCP to help out. If you wish to help out at AFC, enable AFCH by navigating to Preferences → Gadgets and checking the "Yet Another AfC Helper Script" box.
- Remedy 8.1 of the Muhammad images case will be rescinded 1 November following a motion.
- A modification to the deletion RfC remedy in the Conduct in deletion-related editing case has been made to reaffirm the independence of the RfC and allow the moderators to split the RfC in two.
- The second phase of the 2021-22 Discretionary Sanctions Review closes 3 October.
- An administrator's account was recently compromised. Administrators are encouraged to check that their passwords are secure, and reminded that ArbCom reserves the right to not restore adminship in cases of poor account security. You can also use two-factor authentication (2FA) to provide an extra level of security.
- Self-nominations for the electoral commission for the 2022 Arbitration Committee elections open 2 October and close 8 October.
- You are invited to comment on candidates in the 2022 CUOS appointments process.
- An RfC is open to discuss whether to make Vector 2022 the default skin on desktop.
- Tech tip: You can do a fuzzy search of all deleted page titles at Special:Undelete.
blocked proxy
Can you please explain what your conclusion about 85.238.101.64 is a blocked proxy and therefore it's blocking for 6 months is based on? 85.238.103.38 (talk) 05:03, 9 October 2022 (UTC)

continued vandalism with which you previously assisted
In the fine tradition of Numennewman (talk · contribs), 176.83.47.202 (talk · contribs), and 83.61.37.251 (talk · contribs), 212.115.142.130 (talk · contribs) has again vandalized the article at Logan Yuzna. Administrators' newsletter – December 2022
News and updates for administrators from the past month (November 2022).
- Consensus has been found in an RfC to automatically place RfAs on hold after one week.
- The article creation at scale RfC has been closed.
- An RfC on the banners for the December 2022 fundraising campaign has been closed.
- A new preference named "Enable limited width mode" has been added to the Vector 2022 skin. The preference is also shown as a toggle on every page if your monitor is 1600 pixels or wider. When disabled it removes the whitespace added by Vector 2022 on the left and right of the page content. Disabling this preference has the same effect as enabling the wide-vector-2022 gadget. (T319449)
- Eligible users are invited to vote on candidates for the Arbitration Committee until 23:59 December 12, 2022 (UTC). Candidate statements can be seen here.
- The proposed decision for the 2021-22 review of the discretionary sanctions system is open.
- The arbitration case Reversal and reinstatement of Athaenara's block has been closed.
- The arbitration case Stephen has been opened and the proposed decision is expected 1 December 2022.
- A motion has modified the procedures for contacting an admin facing Level 2 desysop.
- Tech tip: A single IPv6 connection usually has access to a "subnet" of 18 quintillion IPs. Add
/64
to the end of an IP in Special:Contributions to see all of a subnet's edits, and consider blocking the whole subnet rather than an IP that may change within a minute.

About User:Migfab008
I see that you had words with this editor a few days ago. Fat lot of good that was. S/he has done a lot of bad around a lot of Philippine-connected pages. S/he is changed a lot, adding silly categories. To me it's vandalism, and should be reverted pdq. (Check his/her list of contributions)
Auntie Kathleen (talk) 13:21, 24 January 2023 (UTC)
- Vandalism has a specific definition of deliberate intent to harm the encyclopedia. Is that what they're doing? It's unclear to me. They certainly are interested in tagging and tweaking articles with perceived MOS issues. Being misguided or making mistakes doesn't equal a design to vandalize. If you feel strongly enough, you could report them to WP:ANI, but unless I see a clear pattern of damage to the project, I don't believe it's vandalism. I'm traveling at the moment, so if there are urgent issues, please take them to the appropriate noticeboard. Thanks. :-) Katietalk 04:11, 25 January 2023 (UTC)
Please block Apeholder as a result of long-term abuse
Hi Katie, but unfortunately, the user Apeholder has created Unfair terms in Irish contract law (which is tagged for speedy deletion, and is a serious copyright violation). I’ve warned this user about this copyvio. Please block this user as a result of long-term abuse. Yours sincerely, AlphaDenied623 (talk) 18:50, 31 January 2023 (UTC)
- @AlphaDenied623 That is not a copy vio from what I can tell because the source is free to use ([1], [2]) (talk page stalker) EvergreenFir (talk) 19:01, 31 January 2023 (UTC)
- I know it is not a copyvio, but Apeholder still needs to be blocked as this user is also edit-warring 1 year ago. AlphaDenied623 (talk) 19:09, 31 January 2023 (UTC)
- We do not block as punishment. If you know it's not a copyvio, then why did you add a CSD. That would be in bad faith if you knew that there was no actual violation. EvergreenFir (talk) 19:12, 31 January 2023 (UTC)
- KrakatoaKatie, this is a required notice to you that were mentioned at ANI (Wikipedia:Administrators'_noticeboard/Incidents#AlphaDenied623_and_Apeholder). Thank you! EvergreenFir (talk) 19:34, 31 January 2023 (UTC)|}
- @KrakatoaKatie+AlphaDenied623 Since when is THE LAW copyrighted material? Why is someone from the American midwest trying to school me on Irish law?? Firstly, if it's such a serious violation it would have been removed. Secondly, why are you looking at stuff from years ago to try and get me summarily banned? What's the real reason here? Did you take exception to another edit I made elsewhere? This seems personal Apeholder (talk) 23:08, 31 January 2023 (UTC)
