177.17.21.86 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log) after your blocked them, they edited under a new IP from the same range.--Maleschreiber (talk) 03:56, 6 November 2021 (UTC)

Thanks for the note. I'm not 100% available right now, so pinging Drmies who handled the original block on that IP yesterday and who might have some better insight on a potential rangeblock. --Kinu t/c 04:45, 6 November 2021 (UTC)

I don't know whether or not that IP was evading a block, but it looks like what they were saying was correct. It looks like that article was nominated by User:Wustefuchs in 2011, then reviewed exactly one time by the user who nominated it, then the tag was added to the page without it being properly closed. So I don't actually know why the tag is on there. If there is new information or something I have missed?

Also, may I ask how you concluded that IP is evading a block? I'm definitely not saying you are wrong- I myself am frequently the target of people acting like sockpuppets are legitimate editors, even now someone wrote this bogus warning for "edit warring" (not really) and refused to admit the other IP was evading a block. However, I took a look at the edits and don't see any evidence of it myself. If this is a previous pattern or if there is a particular LTA I'm not aware of, if you could link me the page that'd be great. Thanks. Naleksuh (talk) 18:26, 6 November 2021 (UTC)

It's an LTA. See the above thread. To be fair, my actions here are purely procedural related to the LTA/block evasion, so if a set of legitimate editors such as yourself would like to discuss the validity of the GA nomination, feel free to do so on the talk page. --Kinu t/c 18:26, 6 November 2021 (UTC)
Removal of Edits on Deb Schultes
This discussion has been archived and should not be modified. To comment, please create a new topic at the bottom of my current talk page by clicking here.

Hello @Kinu,

You had removed my edits on Deb Schultes account. You unfortunetly reverted them to outdated information. I historically created substantial updates to the template of "Headings" for this biography and was adding onto it to ensure it was up to date. I have utilized the same format for many biographies. Canadian political biographies include past involvement in other levels of government and careers preceding politics, this is not uncommon and important information. I also cited directly to government sources and biographies published about the living person. The only POV issue I could reasonably see is comments about her activism that were published and I cited to. It is a fact that women in politics are an under-represented group. If she is publicly described as someone who broke glass ceilings in a male dominated career, I feel comfortable including it in her biography as the source was reliable. Please let me know if I can kindly revert your edit now? Thank you. (talk) 06:39, 8 November 2021 (UTC)

Hello @Kinu, I have not heard back from you. I will be respectfully undo the reversion as the information still published it outdated and incorrect. This individual does not hold that role anymore. (talk) 04:07, 9 November 2021 (UTC)
@Sigma58:: I apologize for not being able to respond sooner. Rather than reverting to the previous version you created, I recommend making the edits piecemeal with clear edit summaries. On balance, updates that are sourced are likely fine, but given the concerns raised about your editing to (and removal of content from) Michael Chan (Canadian politician), I would stick to editing that clearly falls within WP:NPOV and isn't WP:SYNTHESIS. Also, please ensure that your edits adhere to the Manual of Style. For example, your repeated insertion of the honorific "the Honourable" in the text, along with the repeated use of the subject's full name, contravenes MOS:HONORIFIC and MOS:SURNAME. Thank you. --Kinu t/c 05:57, 9 November 2021 (UTC)
@Kinu Thank you so much for getting back to me! No I apologize. I decided to wait and not change anything out of respect for you. I really appreciate you taking the time to guide me. I completely agree I should do piecemeal edits, I tried to do that a bit more today if you noticed. I used to think I had to edit everything at the same time to prevent spamming the history column. If it looked like I was deleting content, I apologize. I was just rearranging the content and trying to format it in chronological order. I also noticed that I incorrectly may have tried to synthesize his Ministry portfolio years ago. I realized they are completely different. Here in Canada, every time you are sworn in, you get a new mandate with different work, even if the title seems the same. I wanted to outline all the work done under each Mandate. So I apologize if it looks redundant if I go back and do that eventually.
I have some further questions based on what you shared above.
1) If I am just restating what the politician has self-published (specifically their government bios, political pages and government pages), would that contravene WP:NPOC and WP:SYNTHESIS? Or if I cite to a website that re-published a bio that was provided by the living person directly?
2) My concerns surrounding the Michael Chan page seem to have been noticed by others. I saw how they have been editing it and it is already better. Prior to my edit, the biography on Wiki was not written by a WP:NPOV at all and synthesized in a very libelous way. Also, I was interested in working on this bio specifically because a newspaper (The Globe and Mail) was sued for stating defamatory messages that even The Premier of Ontario at the time also said they were untrue condemned. A Premier is a strong authority and equivalent to the "Prime Minister" of a specific Province. For this reason, is there some way to prevent articles from that newspaper source from citing to his Wiki? A part of the lawsuit was that Globe and Mail would recycle its allegations by building it into their new story's. Is that an appropriate remedy and the talk page explains that newspaper is banned for that specific reason? Or what is the better way to protect this profile?
- I apologize again for being so alarmed by the reversion the account "Amigao". It just seemed so odd that he would even undo the profile picture. https://www.reddit.com/r/Sino/comments/kg67e1/this_user_systemically_rewrites_wikipedia_china/?utm_source=amp&utm_medium=&utm_content=post_body I found a reddit page that discussed the activities of that account. This recent reddit page states that "Amigao systemically rewrites the Wikipedia pages of Asian politicians and organizations to say that they are Chinese spies." I am concerned that these allegations have merit as they are substantiated by examples of edits prior to and after Amigao. What alarmed me was that the Michael Chan bio was listed as one of the targeted accounts. This is consistent with the libel that was published by Globe and Mail. It seems like instead of having a balanced biography on this individual, they intended to remove anything that objectively identifies his role.
3) Deb Schulte - she is no longer a Minister. She was defeated in the last election. I would really like to update her bio accordingly. Prior to doing anything though I will read about a) the manual style of edits, b) Mos:Honorific and MOS:surname
4) Official Portraits - In Canada we do not have copyright in the same way USA does for political images. How can I upload the official headshots of politician without being flagged for copyright? What if it is published publicly on their public Facebook page and they do not give information about who took the photo? None of the options seem applicable to me, unless I literally private message these politicians on social media and ask for consent. There has to be a better way to do this applicable to Canada.
Thank you so much again! I will patiently await your response. (talk) 06:31, 9 November 2021 (UTC)
Also, please note that section headings should be sentence case, per MOS:SECTIONS. As I was refreshing my memory on this matter, I happened to click on your latest edit to Maryam Monsef, and have made that (minor) correction as well. --Kinu t/c 05:59, 9 November 2021 (UTC)

Assassination of grammar IDC... I don't care (C not K)... Can I please ask you why you reverted my diction ?? (User talk:Cltjames) 18 November 2021, 13:25 ET... Not incoherent; grammatical exercise.

Among others: The very first clause, "The American poet Walt Whitman who was greatly admired by Abraham Lincoln, the 16th president of the United States admired and respected him"... that's incoherent. "The then cluster gained notoriety with the hymn Passage to India in mention"... that's incoherent. "His poem had received critical reception and to Whitman's Lincoln poetry he has since had varied publications"... that's incoherent. "Despite slipping in popularity and critical assessment since the early 1900s that is"... that's incoherent. Needless to say, I stand by my revert. --Kinu t/c 18:30, 18 November 2021 (UTC)
I also stand by my revert of your edit to John Terry, for similar reasons and as given in the edit summary. Please proofread your edits and use proper English in articles. --Kinu t/c 18:44, 18 November 2021 (UTC)

Fine... I was typing before you edited... I am going to repeat my jape! 70/30... I gave 70%... Where is your 30%? I have given honest interpretations, furthermore for the Lincoln issue; I gave a grammatical exercise only for it to be un done too easily, so I challenge you to improve my grammar and not pretend the article is perfect.(User talk:Cltjames)

Sorry, but the easiest way to improve the grammar in your previous edits was to undo them. Also, you say that you're going to "repeat [your] jape"? Given that a "jape" is a practical joke or some other sort of tomfoolery, you can either (a) clarify your statement to explicitly indicate that it is not or (b) expect yourself to be blocked if you continue disrupting the encyclopedia, as this appears to be an admission that it is intentional. --Kinu t/c 18:52, 18 November 2021 (UTC)

Forget about you attempting to block please; my jape was if you have the time to revert then why not expand and improve ?

As implied above, reverting your poor edits to restore the wording in the previous version of both articles was my way of improving them. I see no reason to continue this discussion further. --Kinu t/c 18:57, 18 November 2021 (UTC)

Mr Panda . Why did you remove the external links and see also sections of Malik Shakeel Awan's Page . I see that there are editors constantly removing these categories , can you kindly explain the reason ? MSA's 2nd Son (talk) 15:00, 24 November 2021 (UTC)

See MOS:SEEALSO. The section is not supposed to be articles that are simply tangentially related. Also see WP:EL and WP:FACEBOOK. Social media links are not to be included here. I recommend that you stop edit warring to reintroduce that content and instead follow those guidelines. --Kinu t/c 15:02, 24 November 2021 (UTC)

Mister Panda Everything I've ever edited into the Malik Shakeel Awan page has always been facts and can be re-checked easily. I kindly ask you to link your discord account or such so I can contact you more easily / accessible as it's not very convenient to talk like this . :| MSA's 2nd Son (talk) 15:04, 24 November 2021 (UTC)

Unless a reason such as privacy concerns applies, all discussion about this topic should take place on-wiki (e.g., here or at the article's talk page). --Kinu t/c 18:12, 24 November 2021 (UTC)

Tremaine
This discussion has been archived and should not be modified. To comment, please create a new topic at the bottom of my current talk page by clicking here.

Hello Kinu

First of all, if the two notables of Temary and Tremaine were decided by higher-up Wiki to not be notable, fair enough. But certainly with the latter, one would think 75% then easily go. I add things at times like a crossword puzzle and often clean up inline citations. But this wiki rule, Temary has a page-- that was deleted as "unnotable". If you go through that Miller Co page, it's all about Tremaine and her husband.

Is she notable? I see you have a BA in Econ at Yale and PhD. Great. Go on proquest and search the name. There are many, many things. I just don't like someone reverting something with no content knowledge, and a track record of disputes all up their page. Do we dismiss obits in the NYT and across the US, because an unknowledgeable wiki user doesn't know who they are and won't spend 10 minutes to check it out?

I've never had a dispute, but this seems insane to me. How does one bump up perceived reckless reverting?

And by the way, the reverter has a bias against the NYT as a "left-wing rag", and in relation to an obit! Is this acceptable by Wiki? I personally don't care where an obit is in maybe 300 sources.

Also, as you are I believe a volunteer administrator, I'd appreciate a link to the page talking about disputes that go up the chain into the Wikipedia org. I've been a contributor now and again for at least 10 years and this recent conflict has me very concerned in different ways. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mrdnartdesign (talkcontribs)

How we will see unregistered users
This discussion has been archived and should not be modified. To comment, please create a new topic at the bottom of my current talk page by clicking here.

Hi!

You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki.

When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.

Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin will still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools to help.

If you have not seen it before, you can read more on Meta. If you want to make sure you don’t miss technical changes on the Wikimedia wikis, you can subscribe to the weekly technical newsletter.

We have two suggested ways this identity could work. We would appreciate your feedback on which way you think would work best for you and your wiki, now and in the future. You can let us know on the talk page. You can write in your language. The suggestions were posted in October and we will decide after 17 January.

Thank you. /Johan (WMF)

I am not a CU, so don't have conclusive evidence, but the way things occurred leads me to suspect that User:50.212.96.74 is the IP of registered User:HelixxUnderscore. When questioned they deny the connection. See User talk:Valjean#January 2022. I have never had contact with them before, and immediately after I reverted the IP I got the bogus EW warning. Formal Dude has warned them to not do that again. -- Valjean (talk) 18:50, 27 January 2022 (UTC)

I just noticed you fixed the dates Park Avenue main line. There is an IP editor that is repeatedly changing Month Year to Month, Year. I have be unable to get their attention and have been fixing them manually. Can your run this script on all their edits. It's 2600:1004:B126:3A23:46A:46B0:6BF2:92ED (talk · contribs · WHOIS) right now, but they have had a different IP last week if I recall. I have brought this up at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents#IP not following MOS:DATES but the editor is still doing this. MB 02:13, 3 February 2022 (UTC)

Date templates
This discussion has been archived and should not be modified. To comment, please create a new topic at the bottom of my current talk page by clicking here.

I noticed this edit which was rightfully reverted by another editor. I also notice the above #Date script section. Please be aware that many date templates, such as {{Birth date}} emit the date in the metadata. Because the standard for this data is set by an organization outside the Wikimedia Foundation, that format requires dates be in the Gregorian calendar and there is nothing we can do about it. So if a date is in the Julian calendar we should not use date templates for those dates. Because the adoption of the Gregorian calendar occurred over centuries, any date before Thursday 1 March 1923 is potentially a Julian calendar date. I suggest any script which inserts date templates should refuse to operate on any date earlier than Thursday 1 March 1923. Jc3s5h (talk) 17:11, 3 February 2022 (UTC)

I would recommend that you partialblock 2600:387:C:0:0:0:0:0/46 (block range · block log (global) · WHOIS (partial)) from Talk:Wind turbine and Tom Wolf. A /64 won't cut it a lot of the time for that ISP.

2601:985:4002:2E20:0:0:0:0/64 (block range · block log (global) · WHOIS (partial)) is also vandalizing right off their 3 month block in October, and 49.178.192.153 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · filter log · WHOIS · RDNS · RBLs · http · block user · block log) is a sock of WP:LTA/TFD wizzito | say hello! 02:47, 10 February 2022 (UTC)

For the first request, I don't see any evidence that partially blocking the /46 is necessary right now, but I'll keep an eye on it and extend the range if needed. I was wondering where I can report a vandal for harassment? This IP vandal reverted my edit and wrote (Redacted) on both Adam West's edit summary and my talk page (repeatedly). I deleted his comment on my talk page but keeps writing on it with the same thing. This user has also been engaging in an edit war in two wiki articles (Jean Paul Belmondo and Adam West). --TDKR Chicago 101 (talk) 04:03, 10 February 2022 (UTC)

  • I'd say WP:AN3 would be the proper venue for this, as the edit itself isn't vandalism, but it is edit warring, especially as the consensus version seems to be the black-and-white photo since West's death. I've restored the pre-edit warring version per WP:STABLE, semiprotected the article for a week, and blocked the IP for edit warring and also the WP:NPA violation. --Kinu t/c 04:10, 10 February 2022 (UTC)

Kinu: What's up with the overkill here? You are protecting a butchered version of the entry on me. The previous contributor did not add 'promotional' material. The entry was updated to include publications from the past 10 years. The current entry omits those 10 years. How is that responsible? I plead for fairness here. If you find promotional material in the previous version, omit it and restore it. No need to suppress a decent entry or to clamp down on innocent contributors. Can we find someone to adjudicate this with fairness? --Paul Moser — Preceding unsigned comment added by Pkjmoser (talkcontribs) 11:27, 12 February 2022 (UTC)
The version of the article to which I reverted is this one, which in my opinion is the last stable version prior to the disruption that has been noted many times at the talk page (and, despite the inherent conflict of interest, you seem to agree as well). Also, referring to block-evading sockpuppets who repeatedly post the same unsourced and ostensibly promotional copy/pasted version of this article at multiple venues as "innocent contributors" is disingenuous. Hello, Kinu,

With the amount of revision deletion I see you do, I think you should consider applying to be an Oversighter, when September comes around. You seem to get to bad material very quickly and I think we can always use another Oversighter on call to respond to the truly outrageous stuff. Just a thought! Liz Read! Figured this may seem lengthy however I'll work at being kind of brief. Your humor and acumen is noted. Like how you said no thanks to most jokes, haha. However I think you have a finely tuned liking for comedy, shows, etc. Right off the top I note you and I may share somewhat vast or expansive knowledge and experience although applied in more than slightly different places. Beliefs and opinions may even be shared -I'll surmise maybe more than 68 to 79 percent... While talking with admins on here is not something I do often you may be one of few who has been both an admin for quite some time and you jumped into the position kind of right off, again rare.

Yes, you're not an Asian or Japanese cruiser. You are not the first person I have run across from trivia shows. Ok, noticed you have no way to be emailed. I am not a huge fan of communications on here due to the permanence of said method.

Anyway good talking, maybe it will be something to pick up again.Justanother2 (talk) 22:13, 14 February 2022 (UTC)

Help needed

Hello Kinu, I am here to ask for your help as I have created a new Wikipedia on Parizaad (character) but someone by the name of Malikul Maut has removed my page due to the biography of a living person has no citations but the page is about the fictional character Parizaad and not on a living character so could you help me with my problem as the whole drama serial and novel is available on the internet but Wikipedia does not allow to citate YouTube videos or Google URL's. Putting our fued aside could you help me with this problem? Yours respectfully Wagiis Wagiis Wagone (talk) 18:30, 23 February 2022 (UTC)

While the article is about a fictional character, it still requires references, such as discussions of the character in reliable, third-party sources, indicating why it is worthy of inclusion in an encyclopedia. See WP:GNG and WP:NFICT for the relevant guidelines. As written, this is just an in-universe biography of the character, and moving it to the Draft namespace was certainly the appropriate action here. --Kinu t/c 22:31, 23 February 2022 (UTC)

Hi Kinu, I hope you are doing well. You recently blocked Nathaniel Bapelaa II for having multiple accounts to edit Draft:DJ Arch Jnr and it looks like they created another one, Erackmusic. Let me know if you rather me create an SPI but since it seemed so ducky and only impacts a single draft, I chose to come here instead. Well, and I already submitted one earlier for another case and one a day is about my limit. :) S0091 (talk) 19:00, 22 May 2022 (UTC)

Hello, May we discuss further on my talk page? I have tried to revert a redirect and added citations. My intention was to add more citations to websites where the subject is mentioned because the subject has been in several movies. The subject Caylee Cowan is not a movie and therefore should not be redirected to a movie. this is an actor in the movie that it is being redirected to. All citations are from notable and verifiable sources and so I do not understand why it is deleted when other wikis are made for actors who are of similar notability such as Travis Burns (actor), Emily Tosta ,David Sheftell, Charley Koontz, William Shockley (actor), Erin Bethea, Jenn Gotzon, Charlotte D'AlessioArticleeditscontributor (talk) 03:33, 2 July 2022 (UTC)

This user is an LTA (WP:LTA/WKHF). I thank you for your protections of some pages, but I would suggest longer and more protections on target pages; The Evermoor Chronicles and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker had their protections that would prevent this vandal expire about a week ago. wizzito | say hello! 11:27, 31 July 2022 (UTC)

Correction: Evermoor Chronicles actually had its protection expire in May. wizzito | say hello! 11:28, 31 July 2022 (UTC)
Thanks for the LTA information. I've gone ahead and extended the durations on each of those. I've left them as semi for now (to match the highest protection levels in the past), but I'd be willing to increase the level if the need arises. I'll also keep an eye on the pages mentioned at the LTA report. --Kinu t/c 17:37, 31 July 2022 (UTC)

Hi Kinu, I'm reaching out about South Dakota Pizza, the suspected sockmaster that you tagged. Just wanted to make you aware of another blocked user named Orca Vison Inc.-- the actual sockmaster. Behaviour is identical to SDP, but Orca's account was created the day before the creation of SDP. Thanks! HelenDegenerate(💬📖) 19:13, 13 August 2022 (UTC)

Hi Kinu, you just closed the AfD on Marcia Smith as G5 (thanks!). Would you mind doing the same on Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/HGC Apparel as well? I'm not certain that one qualifies for G5 due to the article creation date being before the initial block on the sockmaster, although a cursory look suggests that it might qualify for G11. I'll take a look at it in more depth and then action it and/or comment at the discussion itself accordingly (unless another admin gets to it first).
