Mahasher (Mahseer) pic

[edit]

Khalid Sahib, the fish in the picture that you have uploaded is a mori/maraka/mirgil (Cirrhinus cirrhosus) not a mahseer. As an angler myself I know the difference between these two species. A mahseer has a far larger head and mouth and big scales. Kindly correct this error. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 119.153.111.89 (talk) 22:04, 5 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Punjabi Wikipedia

[edit]

Is there a Punjabi Wikipedia in Shahmukhi(Pakistani) script? Please tell me if there is. I have ony seen the one in Devanagri till now.

One more thing, is it possible to create a Roman Urdu Wikipedia? I just thought it would be a good idea, although I am unsure of the certainty that it will be eligible. What is your point of view? If you have time, please reply thanks......Acejet (talk) 12:35, 14 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Mountains

[edit]

Hello my Pakistani friend. First of all I have moved the peak to english good reasoning well spotted. All you have to do is look at the top right of the page click move and move to desired page. I have mentioned at beginning it is commonly known as Pico Alcanzor in Spanish. Second Tilla Jogian. If you live in the area you probably more than many known more about it than others. Don't feel guilty editing something than doesn't reflect a true picture and gives poor information. Use your knowledge to try to improve it but don't worry if your english is not perfect. This will come in time -think of it as a learning curve mate. As for the Urdu Digest it was clearly an Urdu publication which needs to be categorized. If I wasn't so busy I could probably use my great knowledge and ability to turn it into a good article. Good luck and I hope I am helpful. You can see all of my User:Ernst Stavro Blofeld contribs to see my work on wikipedia in many fields such as János Fadrusz, Leon Moreaux, Tashilhunpo Monastery, William Garwood , The Diamond from the Sky The Covered Wagonetc. I am currently establishing the entire country of Slovakia. Feel free to help me in my work you seem an intelligent enthusiastic person. All the best Ernst Stavro Blofeld 15:45, 24 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

So far, you have cited no source that uses "Almanzor Peak" (and all the ones I've seen seem to have been written by non-native speakers of English, mostly Spanish people over-compensating). Your map with a "+" symbol uses the name "Almanzor"; even if the "+" signifies a peak, it is not part of the name, but merely a cartographical symbol. So the two names that are routinely used are "Almanzor" and "Pico Almanzor", and of the two, the former is already being used for a disambiguation page. As I said on my talk page, it might be possible to move "Almanzor" to "Almanzor (disambiguation)", and "Pico Almanzor" to "Almanzor" (although most of the incoming links to "Almanzor" do not refer to the mountain, suggesting that that's not such a good idea). However, there does not seem to be a good reason to use the name "Almanzor Peak". There is no reason why every word must be translated into English, especially for place-names. Although "Los Angeles" may be translated as "The Angels", we still call it "Los Angeles". The same is true of mountains; we have "Mont Blanc", not "Mount Blanc" and certainly not "White Mountain". --Stemonitis 08:13, 27 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Syed Pervez Musharef

[edit]

Gentelman I am surprised by your action. Being Paksitani I think I know more about our names. I have given the full name, the name he is quoted too. Syed is his family name. What is the problem in seeing the family name of a person? I am not a new here. And givng family name or full name is normal. Waiting for your comments about this...

Ok, so vandalism may have been a bit harsh -- sorry. The edits were in good faith, and I way overreacted. But this is an English article, so what we refer to him as is what he is named in the article. It doesn't matter what he's called in other countries. It's the same reason why the article on Germany isn't called Deutschland, even though that's what the Germans call it, ok? Gscshoyru 16:48, 29 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Dear you could not convince me. What is the problem in giving the family name? Even in English press it is used. And wikipedia is an encyclopedia and we should provide sufficient information about a person. Syed with his name shows that his ancestors came from Arabia and related to Prophet Muhammad. Is not the American names show from which part of europe a person came or is it not informative to write here a persons lineage. A small word Syed shows too much about this person.
Khalid. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Khalid Mahmood (talkcontribs) 17:06, 29 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Really? Google-searching for "Syed Pervez Musharraf" (with quotes) returns 8 results. Calling him that is hardly mainstream enough to deserve placement in the article. Gscshoyru 17:10, 29 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

List of plants suitable for Pakistani gardens

[edit]

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article List of plants suitable for Pakistani gardens, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. If you agree with the deletion of the article, and you are the only person who has made substantial edits to the page, please add {{db-author}} to the top of List of plants suitable for Pakistani gardens. Shi'a-Sunni sectarianism! What next?

Wikipedia has always had its fair share of disputes. The issues surrounding debates like creationism-evolutionism had been a source of many edit wars. But recently enough, the ball-of-chaos had landed in our very own court. Pakistani issues are now polluted with a new sectarianism, especially the biographical articles celebrating some of the most influential people in Pakistani politics. These edit wars annoyed administrators who had no idea how the problems should be dealt with. Instances of religious inclination (either Shi'a Islam or Sunni Islam) were changed from one or the other. Debates have kicked off on the WP Pakistan talk page. Recently enough, a new policy has come into discussion (actually, it's just a set of rules) that defines major guidlines for such issues. It now awaits votes from all Pakistani editors.

In other news: Akhtar Hameed Khan has finally reached the FA status and Islescape is the happiest person on Earth.

Replaceable fair use Image:Hasdey_Wasdey.jpg

[edit]
Replaceable fair use
Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Hasdey_Wasdey.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Melesse (talk) 18:50, 2 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Khalid Mahmood! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 1 of the articles that you created is tagged as an Unreferenced Biography of a Living Person. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to ensure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. If you were to bring this article up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 2 article backlog. Once the article is adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. hello sir can you please tell me how can i translate an english page to urdu, actually i created an english page and now i also want that page to be in urdu too, so my question is that how to make a Multi-langual page? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 202.69.15.155 (talk) 12:36, 26 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Western Punjabi Wikipedia requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for web content. You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. Ironholds (talk) 04:45, 1 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The article Western Punjabi Wikipedia has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

non-notable

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Ironholds (talk) 15:30, 1 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I have nominated Western Punjabi Wikipedia, an article that you created, for deletion. I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Western Punjabi Wikipedia. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time.

Please contact me if you're unsure why you received this message. Ironholds (talk) 11:29, 6 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]
⚠

Thanks for uploading File:1951 O001 3anna O Chughtai-st.gif. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of "file" pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 18:26, 9 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Erich Werdermann requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies. If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag - if no such tag exists then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hangon tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. File source problem with File:Lectern - Jhelum by Khalid Mahmood.JPG

[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Lectern - Jhelum by Khalid Mahmood.JPG. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of that website's terms of use of its content. However, if the copyright holder is a party unaffiliated from the website's publisher, that copyright should also be acknowledged.

If you have uploaded other files, consider verifying that you have specified sources for those files as well. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged per Wikipedia's criteria for speedy deletion, F4. If the image is copyrighted and non-free, the image will be deleted 48 hours after 15:28, 1 February 2011 (UTC) per speedy deletion criterion F7. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions or are in need of assistance please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Magog the Ogre (talk) 15:28, 1 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

File permission problem with File:Painting in the gallery.JPG

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Painting in the gallery.JPG. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.  Ronhjones  (Talk) 00:49, 26 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

You may have noticed over the past few days that the MOTD that you link to on your user page has simply displayed a red link. This is due to the fact that not enough people are reviewing pending MOTDs here. Please help us keep the MOTD template alive and simply go and review a few of the MOTDs in the list. That way we can have a real MOTD in the future rather than re-using (This space for rent). Any help would be appreciated! –pjoef (talkcontribs) 11:12, 7 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Your use of multiple Wikipedia accounts

[edit]

Hi. An editor has opened an investigation into sockpuppetry by you. Sockpuppetry is the use of more than one Wikipedia account in a manner that contravenes community policy. The investigation is being held at Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/LanguageXpert, where the editor who opened the investigation has presented their evidence. Please make sure you make yourself familiar with the guide to responding to investigations, and then feel free to offer your own evidence or to submit comments that you wish to be considered by the Wikipedia administrator who decides the result of the investigation. If you have been using multiple accounts (in a manner contrary to Wikipedia policy), please go to the investigation page and verify that now. Leniency is usually shown to those who promise not to do so again, or who did so unwittingly, but the abuse of multiple accounts is taken very seriously by the Wikipedia community.

Assalam o Alaikum! I am Faizan. I saw that you added many spam images of File:Dialects Of Punjabi.jpg to many unrelated articles. The previous image File:Map on Dialects Of Punjabi Language.jpg was by a User:Maria0333 and she was blocked by the same actions that you are performing. Reply me, and explain your edits, or an edit conflict may occur. Secondly, now you will have to prove that you are not a Sock puppet of Maria0333. Please reply me either here, or on my talk. And regarding your sock puppetry, disprove it at Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/LanguageXpert. Faizan (talk) 06:18, 3 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
The thing or point that is an evidence of your sock puppetry is that you are adding the image to many unrelated unimportant pages or Articles, if you have done a work, then please don't try to add it or storm many articles. Faizan (talk) 06:20, 3 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The Wikipedia:Sockpuppet_investigations/LanguageXpert have rendered you innocent, I am sorry for the suspicion, but that has been cleared now! Actually the users who copy others' content like a user did with your low-resolution image ought to be blamed! By the way, you're a Lahori? Actually I wanted an image for Metrobus (Lahore), so if you can get a cool image of the bus, then I shall be grateful to you! I still urge you, not to add an image in unrelated articles. Your upload of File:Almanzor Peak 2.jpg or contribution to its description is noted, and thanks (even if belatedly) for your contribution. Wikimania 2014

[edit]

Hi!

My name is Victor and I'm a storyteller and video producer for the Wikimedia Foundation. I'll be looking to capture stories about Wikimedians at Wikimania in London in a week. Here is an example of the kind of thing that I'm aiming to do. I saw that you're attending Wikimania and I was wondering if you might have some time to talk about your work on Wikimedia projects. Anyway let me know if you are interested, I'll be at Wikimania from the 6th-10th of August and would need maybe 30 minutes of your time. I can answer any questions you may have. I’m best reached at vgrigas(at)wikimedia.org

Thanks!

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
