1996 and 1997
Hi Juliancolton, you told me to slow down the articles, I kinda have to quit rapidly creating articles for the Atlantic hurricanes. You see I can't really continue because info on cyclones in 1996 and 1997 is scant. Basically, the only info is the TCRs of these cyclones. The NHC has not records other than that on these cyclones. No there are no archived public advisories, discussion, etc. You can't see them here, or at this link. It really seems like there is no reason for this because there is stuff like advisories and discussions from 1991-1995 and then 1998-2009. My original plan was to create an article for all named storms in the Atlantic from 1990-2009, I can't since 1996 and 1997 is going to be an obstacle. So for now, it will have to remain from complete from 1998-2009. --12george1 (talk) 18:40, 26 February 2010 (UTC)
- Well, not all named storms need articles. In any case, yeah, those years are pretty barren in terms of TC sources. You can probably scrape enough info off for an article using HURDAT and the prelim reports though –Juliancolton | Talk 20:45, 26 February 2010 (UTC)
ace?
heya, got my next project in mind, laura 1971, but theres something that caught my eye from the season article. "With an ACE of 8.61, Laura had the highest ACE of any Atlantic storm that did not reach hurricane strength". that sounded like a cool record, but i got no idea what it means, since i've never seen it b4. little help? thx --Viennaiswaiting (talk) 19:38, 26 February 2010 (UTC)
- Good choice... ACE (Accumulated Cyclone Energy) is, in essence, a "yardstick" for measuring a storm's intensity and duration. I'm not really sure what the equation is to find the ACE for a particular storm, but it's a pretty cool figure. Hurricane Ivan holds the record for the second- highest ACE, with 70.38. –Juliancolton | Talk 20:48, 26 February 2010 (UTC)
- oo, kl, thx... is it legit, tho? i never heard of it, and no other articles have it. --Viennaiswaiting (talk) 21:23, 26 February 2010 (UTC)
- Yeah, it's useful and sourceable. Some articles have it, especially the ones where the ACE represents a significant record (like Laura '71). We decided a while back to only include ACE in those articles, and leave it out of standard storm entries. –Juliancolton | Talk 21:25, 26 February 2010 (UTC)

User:Viennaiswaiting/Sandbox1- now that lauras done, i'm finishing up my topic. i played around w the list article, nd found a link from an article that had depressions and the rest of the storms, so i added them. i also found another link here - http://www.aoml.noaa.gov/hrd/hurdat/metadata_master.html#1914_ - that has depressons too. think its cool to add them? --Viennaiswaiting (talk) 18:09, 1 March 2010 (UTC)

Would you be interested in doing an interview for the Wikipedia Signpost on behalf of WikiProject Severe Weather? The interview would be featured as the WikiProject report in the March 1st issue of the Signpost. If so, please answer the questions here by February 27-28th. Hurricane Doria vandalism
Hi Julian, I happened to notice a good part of your article concerning Hurricane Doria got lost when a vandal deleted the Meteorological history section, and a few edits went in between. Rather than restoring it myself, I just wanted to drop you a note about it. Keep up the good work, I never got the chance to tell you how impressed I am with the amount of work you put into Wikipedia. Cheers, Numero4 (talk) 18:26, 27 February 2010 (UTC)

Hi. Well after getting rid of all of these article about Coldplay songs that fail WP:NOTABILITY, Death and All His Friends was kept as it charted on the UK and Swedish charts. Now the article is over 1,500 characters and I've added alot to it so first off, is it still notable to even be kept and second, is it good enough for a DYK?--Coldplay Expért Let's talk 03:04, 28 February 2010 (UTC)

Remember, a loooong time ago I told you about having taken this cool picture for the NY 28 article in the Catskills? Sure, go ahead and add it to the portal. It could use some more Catskills pics anyway.

A special well done goes to Sasata (submissions), our round one winner (1010 points), and to Hunter Kahn (submissions) and TonyTheTiger (submissions), who were second and third respectively (640 points/605 points). Sasata was awarded the most points for both good articles (300 points) and featured articles (600 points), and TonyTheTiger was awarded the most for featured topics (225 points), while Hunter Kahn claimed the most for good topics (70). Staxringold (submissions) claimed the most featured lists (240 points) and featured pictures (35 points), Geschichte (submissions) claimed the most for Did you know? entries (490 points), Jujutacular (submissions) claimed the most for featured sounds (70 points) and Candlewicke (submissions) claimed the most for In the news entries (40 points). No one claimed a featured portal or valued picture.
Credits awarded after the end of round one but before round two may be claimed in round two, but remember the rule that content must have been worked on in some significant way during 2010 by you for you to claim points. The groups for round two will be placed up shortly, and the submissions' pages will be blanked. This round will continue until 28 April, when the top two users from each group, as well as 16 wildcards, will progress to round three. Please remember to continue to offer reviews at GAC, FAC and all the other pages that require them to prevent any backlogs which could otherwise be caused by the Cup; thank you to all doing this last round, and particularly to those helping at Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. As ever, questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup and the judges are reachable on their talk pages, by email or on IRC. Good luck! The RfC on the Community de-Adminship proposal has begun
The RfC on the Community de-Adminship proposal was started on the 22nd Feb, and it runs for 28 days. Please note that the existing CDA proposal was (in the end) run as something of a working compromise, so CDA is still largely being floated as an idea.
Also note that, although the RfC is in 'poll format' (Support, Oppose, and Neutral, with Comments underneath), this RfC is still essentially a 'Request for Comment'. Currently, similar comments on CDA's value are being made under all three polls.
Whatever you vote, your vote is welcome!

BLP sticky PROD
Hi Juliancolton/Archive 26!. Every attempt to rescue a Wikipedia article is a noble gesture. However, there may be occasions when, with the best will in the world, it is just not possible to accord even a minimum of notability to an article or stub, or find a proper source for it. Most regrettably, even the most dedicated inclusionists will have to concede that the article may have to go if the creator or major contributors cannot justify their work.
For new and recent unsourced BLPs, some users are now working at WT:BLP PROD TPL on the development of templates that are designed to encourage contributors to source new BLPs, without scaring away the newbies who might not be aware of the rules. This template is certainly not another a licence to kill for the deletionists, in fact the very idea of it is to ensure that you are not fighting a losing battle. It would be great if you could look in at the prgogress and maybe leave a word of encouragement. The workshop page is essentially a template development taskforce, and is not a place to engage in a hefty debate on incusion/deletion policy. See you at WT:BLP PROD TPL?--Kudpung (talk) 12:31, 7 March 2010 (UTC)

Sorry to be so tardy in response. Yes, I do have the originals. However, I'd like to try to a better stitch myself as that one was done in Microsoft PhotoDraw, which I must be one of the few people who still have (at least until I begin replacing my computer later in the week), and basically wasn't so much a stitch as just putting the images together and blurring the edges a little bit. Photoshop has a wonderful automerge feature I've used ever since ... I'd like to try that. Daniel Case (talk) 05:30, 15 March 2010 (UTC)

Question for BQ
I cannot edit there. I see you can, so can you ask this for me please to BQ: start here----- As Military man, please answer question on Flag for me. Instructor tell me about respect to flag and lesson has certain things not to do here(sorry, I not shouting): UNITED STATES CODE TITLE 36 CHAPTER 10 then §176. Respect for flag here:(g) The flag should never have placed upon it, nor on any part of it, nor attached to it any mark, insignia, letter, word, figure, design, picture, or drawing of any nature. So why is globe thingy upon flag on your page? Is this not for internet, I do not understand? 87.119.79.235 (talk) 00:09, 16 March 2010 (UTC) end here----- thank you Mr. Colton for your help.
- I'm really sorry, but I don't understand; could you please explain what page you want to ask your question on? –Juliancolton | Talk 00:22, 16 March 2010 (UTC)
MrBQZip page. I cannot put note there. But you have note at bottom of his page. This means you can put note there for me I hope. It is not to important, but I would like to now about this flag on internet. 87.119.79.235 (talk) 00:43, 16 March 2010 (UTC)

- On my user page is a link to a page for new users to respond. Please use that link in the future.
- Your answer for your question regarding my user page and the Wikipedia logo on top of the American flag is that it wasn't always there. This image was originally set as the foreground image. There have been some minor changes to Wikipedia which puts this image in the background. That said, I don't necessarily see this as a problem as it is a background image, part of a larger image. It would be similar to this image: the wax figure of a firefighter is between the cameraman and the flag and appears in front of the flag. This is also a technical violation of the same law.
- This law is unenforceable as it is an illegal regulation of free speech. Any attempted enforcement of said law will be thrown out in the Supreme Court unless an amendment is passed for the U.S. Constitution.
- That said, you bring up an excellent point with regards to U.S. Code. I certainly want to show proper respect for the American flag. Perhaps there is a better way to display such an image of the flag on my user page. — BQZip01 — talk 04:38, 16 March 2010 (UTC)
BQ, You give me multiple choice, no? I choose number 4, that is the correct answer. You are the military man so I say this is best for you. (1 I do not know, 2 is not clear, cameraman take picture wherever he is, this is not disrespect. 3 that law is illegal is not clear, I am not lawmaker or jury). You fix now, that is best thing to do. 87.119.79.235 (talk) 17:54, 16 March 2010 (UTC)

User:ZjarriRrethues
This user is teaming up with User:Kushtrim123 and placing this map from 1860 [1] in every article he can think of. The reason he does that, of course, is because it shows half of Greece as Albanian. That this is motivated by nothing other than national POV is evident from the way he places it at the very top of these articles, so as to maximize visibility, even though this is usually ends up placing the map rather incongruously in the "Ancient History" section, e.g. in History of Albania and History of Kosovo. These two, particularly Kushtrim123, are hard national-advocacy accounts with whom any discussion is futile before it has even begun. They are tag teaming and generally careful to avoid 3RR, which is rather odd for such new accounts. Athenean (talk) 21:49, 16 March 2010 (UTC)
What are you talking about? I never reverted to anyone's version if Kushtrim123 wants to edit those articles is his own problem not mine. And since we're talking about "tag-teaming" you have been following me around wikipedia and after you came User:Alexikoua. Please stop doing such a thing, and please stop accusing me for the 3rd time for being someone else. It was proven that I'm no one else except ZjarriRrethues so stop doing what you're doing.--— ZjarriRrethues — talk 22:16, 16 March 2010 (UTC)
- Athenean, if that's the case, there's no need to take matters into your own hands. At this point I think a civil discussion at a relevant talk page would be able to determine where consensus currently exists. –Juliancolton | Talk 22:22, 16 March 2010 (UTC)

'Private' re-listing
Thanks for tending to the matter surrounding the Private characters article. I don't entirely understand what's occurring there, I just know that the article should be deleted since it's in clear violation of several policies, and has been for over a year. -- James26 (talk) 20:06, 17 March 2010 (UTC)
- Hello. I relisted the discussion for a week, since consensus was not yet clear. It'll probably be closed once the relist expires (but there is a chance it'll be relisted again). –Juliancolton | Talk 20:08, 17 March 2010 (UTC)
- I'm not certain what this will mean. I know that under the old deletion policy, an original research article (or another one that violated policies) would be removed if the issues weren't remedied. Since no one has even come close to remedying these issues in a year, it seems clear to me that the article is just going to remain a collection of plot summaries and OR if it's kept. In any case, I appreciate your involvement. -- James26 (talk) 23:34, 17 March 2010 (UTC)
- It's not kept, though. Relisting is simply a procedural action taken if consensus is not yet clear. It may well still be deleted if deemed appropriate. –Juliancolton | Talk 01:57, 18 March 2010 (UTC)

Updating Admin Coaching
Hi, I see that you are listed as an active coach.
This is just a reminder to ask that you keep the entry at Wikipedia:Admin_coaching/Status up to date - if you take on a new student, or a student stops being coached, could you update your entry?
Please accept my apologies if you have been doing this - I'm sending this to everyone on the current active list, and not trying to track down what coaching is being done!
If you are no longer willing to coach, please remember to move your name to the "Former coaches" section!
Keeping the list up to date means that any potential coachees can clearly see what the current state of play is!
Thank you for your attention... and now, I'm off back to what I was doing before!

- A regular Wikipedia editor created the article a while back, and then requested deletion because s/he was the page author. London record label
Hey there Julian,
Thanks for taking your time away to read this message. I have just today joined the huge world of which is Wikipedia after years of using it for research projects in the music industry. I would like to create an article for an established record label in London, UK, to which I have no affiliations, but would like to write an article on this fast growing company.
I see that someone else tried to write an article about this a while back, and it was rejected by yourself under term A7. Will I be able to write this article without it being deleted or was there a specific reason it was deleted last time which Im not aware of? Just didn't want to waste anybody's time you know! :)
Anyway thanks for reading and please reply soon

I still have more talk page edits than mainspace though (the gap is about 100 edits though) And sorry for being a bit ignorant but can you point out the "debacle" that was on Malleus's talk page? You are right though, I need to spend less time getting involved in drama that has nothing to do with me and keep on working on German U-boats. Overall though, it's nice to know that I've improved from this to haveing 4 GA's (one of which I wrote) and 10 DKY's.--White Shadows you're breaking up 00:59, 24 March 2010 (UTC)

Hello, JulianColton, and firstly, It's official, your coord status has expired, so I suggest you add the word former to your userpage. Nextly, I'm here basically to ask you if you could review User:Buggie111/Portal Moscow and say if there are any gaps besides the fact that I still have not built some subpages. I'd like to know if a). This is broad enough b).If I should add articles like Battle of Borodino and Battle of Moscow to the selected article group and c). If POrtals like St. Petersburg and Berlin should be created. Besides that, the only fact that I think is barring me from getting this to FP is that there are so few DYK's, GA's and FA's in terms of Mosocw.

Autoreviewer
Hi Juliancolton, just a quick note to acknowledge the addition of autoreviewer rights to my account. I am pleased and flattered - thank you. Should I display the 'ticked Wikiglobe' and, if so, how? Best wishes, Andy F (talk) 21:37, 29 March 2010 (UTC)
- If you want to, just put "{{Autoreviewer}}" on your userpage. You're by no means obligated to however. Best, –Juliancolton | Talk 21:39, 29 March 2010 (UTC)
Thank you!

WikiCup 2010 March newsletter
We're half way through round two, and everything is running smoothly. Hunter Kahn (submissions) leads overall with 650 points this round, and heads pool B. TonyTheTiger (submissions) currently leads pool C, dubbed the "Group of Death", which has a only a single contestant yet to score this round (the fewest of any group), as well five contestants over 100 points (the most). With a month still to go, as well as 16 wildcard places, everything is still to play for. Anything you worry may not receive the necessary attention before the end of the round (such as outstanding GA or FA nominations) is welcome at Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews, and please remember to continue offering reviews yourself where possible. As always, the judges are available to contact via email, IRC or their talk pages, and general discussion about the Cup is welcome on the WikiCup talk page.
Although unrelated to the WikiCup, April sees a Good Article Nominations backlog elimination drive, formulated as a friendly competition with small awards, as the Cup is. Several WikiCup contestants and judges have already signed up, but regular reviewers and those who hope to do more reviewing are more than welcome to join at the drive page. If you wish to start receiving or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send.
