Orphaned non-free media (File:Natalievikijessica2001.png)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Natalievikijessica2001.png. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. File:John Brotherton as Jared Banks.png Comment

[edit]

Hi. I just wanted you to know that I nominated File:John Brotherton as Jared Banks.png for speedy deletion because it is a non-free image being used where a free image could be obtained. If you disagree, please see my comments on its talk page. If you feel the image is important to the Jared Banks article, then the other usage of the image should be cleaned up. Otherwise, it would be better to find a freely usable image of the actor to replace it with.

I see that you are a very prolific contributor, and I have great respect and appreciation for all your hard work. I'm not trying to make your work more difficult, nor is this anything personal against or about you. I just noticed a non-free photo being used inappropriately, and I flagged it as such. Westchester Editathon and Haitian Creole Wikipedia

[edit]

Hi FrickFrack! Were you able to join for the event at Wikipedia:Meetup/Westchester County/Black Life Matters Editathon? I know some folks interested in doing more outreach along these lines in the NYC area, particularly among the Haitian community, and as both an experienced Wikipedia editor and a fluent Haitian Creole speaker you could be very helpful in this effort. In addition to improving English Wikipedia on Haitian topics, there is also a special effort to develop the Haitian Creole edition of the encyclopedia, and there will be an event to this effect at Brooklyn Public Library on March 14 if you would like to join.--Pharos (talk) 05:50, 17 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Todd FAC

[edit]

Hi FrickFrack, I saw that you did some clean-up on Todd's article recently, and from your talk page, you tend to edit OLTL articles. Very cool, and much needed. I didn't watch OLTL until the lamented on-line version, and only because I had discovered Todd and Roger Howarth on GH. I'm sure you have Todd's article on your watchlist, so I'm fairly certain you already know, but Todd is at FAC now: Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Todd Manning/archive2. It's on its second FAC, because no one bothered to review it last time, so we really don't want it to fail again for the same reason. So--would you mind taking a look at it? It would really benefit from an expert's perspective. Thanks. Christine (Figureskatingfan) (talk) 04:28, 28 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. ...to help me revive the Haitian Creole Wikipedia.

User:Bfpage, User:Arsendis and a couple of other editors are trying to improve the content at the Haitian Wikipedia. User:WhisperToMe had what I think is a brilliant idea, which is to focus on content that is useful to Haitian ex patriates in Miami and other places. You can read about his suggestion at w:ht:Wikipedya:Kafe#Plan for attracting users, and add your own improvements to it. I would really love to see you drop by and help us out. Most of the articles are one-sentence stubs, and there are only about 50,000 of them altogether. The scope for improvement is vast. 2017 transit diagram

[edit]

I would point out that while this is widely inclusive from intercity to urban people mover stations, it leaves out the MIA Mover, which is not to be confused for an intra-airport APM, such as the APM from the main building to the satellite terminal. The MIA Mover connects the main building to the Miami Intermodal Center, which is a separate entity. It is relatively highly trafficked, compared to some of the region's other underutilized transit systems. Good job though. I think it could be added to the graphic and a new version uploaded. There's tons of room for it anyway. Also it may be a bit premature to add the graphic to all the pertinent articles longs before two services (Tri-Rail spur and AAF part one) actually exist. I'm on the fence about that but do think the MIA Mover should be added. B137 (talk) 01:13, 1 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

In fact, the Satellite Concourse E train was just replaced with a MiniMetro cable car, it is about 1,200 feet long. https://liftblog.com/2016/07/14/leitner-poma-minimetro-debuts-at-miami-international-airport/
Also, I think black should be used for the MIA Mover branch color, red and grey were used in other seemingly unofficial maps, but grey is already used and traditional or dark red doesn't fit well with the existing used colors. B137 (talk) 01:38, 1 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
If due to nothing other than the available space, a slightly opaque geometry of Miami International Airport could be added, that would give more context to "Central Terminal", also it would also be possible to add the MiniMetro to Concourse E. B137 (talk) 02:00, 1 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
The map was meant to be a starter map, as I'd not seen a map that integrated the system as it is planned for next year. Thanks for taking initiative in adding the Miami International Airport terminal map, as I was on the fence on its inclusion. It looks great, thanks greatly for making the contribution B137. FrickFrack 02:07, 1 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for being okay with my Paint hack job. I also just added the Amtrak services. My fonts do not match exactly, and I had to make the square and circle using rectangle and oval. B137 (talk) 02:10, 1 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
The Miami-Dade transit site uses light pink and light purple for MIA Mover and BRT busway, respectively, but that is less inclusive and does show the purple line already used here. The full map (http://www.miamidade.gov/transit/library/system-maps-web.pdf) uses red for main/express bus routes, including the busway. B137 (talk) 00:57, 2 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for making the editions, B137. I'm reuploading a map with the inclusive changes, the same universal font, and a better-looking key section shortly. FrickFrack 07:18, 2 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
A minor note, I'd point out that "brightline to Orlando" won't happen even in 2017. Wasn't planned to and beyond that I think it has some issues still slowing it down. Either the Orlando airport station or the construction from cocoa West that is a new line that doesn't exist yet. B137 (talk) 15:36, 2 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Just clocking in to make one more note and an amendment; I think the map is pretty good as it is, other than the Brickell Loop of the MM being inevitably scrunched. The extra curve in Metrorail is a little deceptive as it actually curves sharper south at that point, not more west. Also, I see where the sources say "late 2017" for Orlando Brightline; I believe the Orlando International Airport Intermodal Center actually is well underway. However, I think the Florida State Route 528 Beach Line Expressway median construction (also similar to where Florida High Speed Rail would have gone) is delayed. I can't find any real evidence of its status. Here is a recent news report (http://www.tcpalm.com/story/news/local/shaping-our-future/all-aboard-florida/2016/09/16/aaf-ignored-viable-western-corridor-martin-county-says/90485046/) that says that the full line to Orlando is not going to open until "2018, according to All Aboard Florida." In all practicality, it could be several years away still. B137 (talk) 18:16, 2 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Update on this:

Turns out no part of Brightline will open by 2017, let alone the "Brightline to Orlando" indicated in the map. B137 (talk) 04:28, 29 November 2017 (UTC) Also, Amtrak still isn't open at Miami Intermodal Center/Airport station, and there is a rumor that it may simply abandon it. Latin American 10,000 Challenge invite

[edit]

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Latin America/The 10,000 Challenge ‎ has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like Brazil, Mexico, Peru and Argentina etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. At some stage we hope to run some contests to benefit Latin American content, a destubathon perhaps, aimed at reducing the stub count would be a good place to start, based on the current Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon. If you would like to see this happening for Latin America, and see potential in this attracting more interest and editors for the country/countries you work on please sign up and being contributing to the challenge! This is a way we can target every country of Latin America, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant!♦ --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 00:34, 27 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

AfroCine: Join the Months of African Cinema this October!

[edit]

Greetings!

After a successful first iteration of the “Months of African Cinema” last year, we are happy to announce that it will be happening again this year, starting from October 1! In the 2018 edition of the contest, about 600 Wikipedia articles were created in at least 8 languages. There were also contributions to Wikidata and Wikimedia commons, which brought the total number of wikimedia pages created during the contest to over 1,000.

The AfroCine Project welcomes you to October, the first out of the two months which have been dedicated to creating and improving content that centre around the cinema of Africa, the Caribbean, and the diaspora. Join us in this global edit-a-thon, by helping to create or expand articles which are connected to this scope. Also remember to list your name under the participants section.

On English Wikipedia, we would be recognizing participants in the following manner:

  • Overall winner (1st, 2nd, 3rd places)
  • Diversity winner
  • Gender-gap fillers

For further information about the contest, the recognition categories and how to participate, please visit the contest page here. For further inquiries, please leave comments on the contest talkpage or on the main project talkpage. See you around :).--Jamie Tubers (talk) 00:50, 30 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Miami Metro Map

[edit]

Hello! I notice you made some of the most recent edits to this: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Miami_Metro_Map_2017.png I'm glad you did, especially "Update for actual 2018 service" Could you go one step further and remove the pink line, Tri-Rail: Downtown Miami Link? It doesn't exist yet, and no-one knows when it'll exist. I think the map is best when it shows what currently exists, without trying to predict the future. (you agreed too, when you moved the Amtrak station :D ) Thanks! :D

Notice

The article Boynton Beach Boulevard station has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Proposed station that still don't exist 7 years later. One reference is dead, other doesn't corroborate this article. Personally, I live in Boynton and my wife sometimes uses the tri-rail. Never heard of this station idea.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. ...William, is the complaint department really on the roof? 22:31, 15 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Carla Gray

[edit]

Hi there! User:TAnthony recommended you when I was speaking to him, and then I saw you in Carla Gray's edit history so I wanted to come over and say hello. I would love to know what you think about the Carla Gray article! I hadn't edited Wikipedia in years but I started improving the Carla article for Black History Month and then just kept working on it until (more-or-less) completion. The only section I want to tackle further is the Ed and Carla marriage section, I think the sourcing could be a little better there (and I have them, it's just working and plugging them in).

I am also planning on using my sandbox to eventually start a Nancy Grant article, since she was the second Black female lead character on the soaps. I also notice Frank Grant doesn't have an article and I'm going to work on that heavily as well, because I think the character topic is worthy of an article outside a character list page. Can't wait to hear from you! Mike H. talk 14:23, 2 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Replaceable fair use File:Foreveristoday.png

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Foreveristoday.png. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{Di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification, per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Replaceable non-free use File:Diana happening.png

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Diana happening.png. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of non-free use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of non-free use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{Di-replaceable non-free use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable non-free use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file's talk page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

Update map file

[edit]

Hi! I've noticed that you were the creator of this map file. I was curious if you'd be available and willing to update it for 2024, i.e. showing the Tri-Rail Downtown Miami Link as a shuttle between Metrorail Transfer and MiamiCentral, the extension of Brightline to Orlando, and the renaming of Lake Worth to Lake Worth Beach? Thank you! OrdinaryScarlett (talk) 09:57, 2 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Just a reminder in this edit you removed the comma after the full September 9 date, and per the above Manual of Style (which must be followed), commas follow full year MDY date formats, and removal of the comma is a violation of the MOS set up by Wikipedia for all-users to adhere to. Also stated a character last appeared "onscreen" is redundant, as they did not appear off-screen. It's a redundant use of term. livelikemusic (TALK!) 14:36, 1 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
