Compromised account
[edit]{{admin help}}
My account has been compromised and the password/confirmation email changed to a Russian address within the last eight hours. I still have access through my one computer because I had "remain logged on for up to 30 days" checked. How can I regain my account to change the password/confirmation email? Regards, Thisfireburns (talk) 21:08, 3 October 2014 (UTC)
Now that I've looked a little further, it may not be a malicious attack – perhaps the account for a User on the Russian Wikipedia who shared my Username, "Thisfireburns," was combined with my account after s/he registered for a global account? The registration time and time of the incident seem to coincide. Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated. Thisfireburns (talk) 22:27, 3 October 2014 (UTC)
- If you are logged in you can change the e-mail address and password via the "preferences" link at the top of the page - if you still have issues we can only permanently block the account. Ronhjones (Talk) 23:35, 4 October 2014 (UTC)
- I tried to change the e-mail address and password, but it said my current/old password was incorrect – when the Russian "Thisfireburns" assumed my account it must have brought his/her password along. Once I log out from this particular computer, I will not have access to this account anymore. If all I can do is create a new account and give up this Username to the Russian version (which I am OK with), is there a way my new Username can get credit for my previous edits to the English Wikipedia? (All of the edits on the local account "wiki.riteme.site" are mine.) Thanks again. "American" Thisfireburns (talk) 01:04, 5 October 2014 (UTC)
A confirmation for the change Username request from Thisfireburns only for the English Wikipedia at [1].
- For the record, I have attended to your rename request on Meta. --MF-W 15:43, 7 October 2014 (UTC)
