charles langtry is one of the names of english men who died in the call of duty during ww1 thats not good enough for you? he is atSt Woolos' cemetery, Newport, Wales and at yeovil war memorial... not good enouth?

World War I resulted in 23,665,873 casualties (per World War I casualties). Would you suggest we create an article on all of them? What's good enough for me isn't the point. The point is general notability and the fact that Wikipedia is not a memorial. Lastly, if you do have objections, it would be better to voice them on the nomination page. Kleuske (talk) 11:46, 7 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
we should remember all of them unfortunatly we cant do that but for notoriety being awarded a few medals and having yoour name included at the local war memorial should be good enouth merit in itself JohnStevens1919 (talk) 12:02, 7 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
That's why we have war memorials. Wikipedia, however, is an encyclopedia. Kleuske (talk) 12:03, 7 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
As many as 115,000 Military Medals were awarded during the Great War 1914-18, along with over 5,000 first bars, 180 second bars and 1 third bar. JohnStevens1919 (talk) 12:05, 7 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
So? Kleuske (talk) 12:06, 7 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
its not an unlimited number and their names are part of the english heritage to keep for the generations to come nobody is thinking of removing them from all the towns a villages of these islands ... those names are here to stay and if all of them could be added they should when sufficent info/records about their lives have survived JohnStevens1919 (talk) 12:21, 7 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
As I already said, that's why we have war memorials. I have no objections at all to remembering the fallen, I strongly encourage it, but Wikipedia does have a notability requirement and is not a war memorial. Kleuske (talk) 12:28, 7 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @JohnStevens1919. I have asked twice now at AfD but you have ignored me. Do you have any connection to the Langtry family? You must declare your Wikipedia:Conflict of interest immediately if so. Qcne (talk) 14:33, 7 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
are you a historian? I don't see the relevance of the question the entry is about a well-documented soldier who died in ww1 regardless of affiliation
affiliation is of no consequence but seems to me that you are trying to argue some sort of biasness on grounds of whether the man was from my town or village or county or not which is totally ridiculous since this is one of the names in one of the war memorial graves in Newport and war memorial monument in Yeovil everything else is adjacent to the topic in front of us which is notoriety wise being one of the fallen and decorated in ww1 should be enough to have a Wikipedia entry or not

and again the victory medal was not awarded to everyone: Who qualifies for ww1 Victory Medal? The Victory Medal was issued to all those who received the 1914 Star or the 1914-15 Star, and to most of those who were awarded the British War Medal. It was never awarded on its own. 149 sitting MPs and 192 Peers were among the 5,725,000 or so recipients. https://www.parliament.uk/about/living-heritage/building/cultural-collections/medals/collection/first-world-war-campaign-medals/victory-medal/about-the-victory-medal/ JohnStevens1919 (talk) 15:00, 7 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @JohnStevens1919.
I think you misunderstand what Wikipedia is for. Every article about a person on Wikipedia must meet the notability threshold at Wikipedia:Notability (people). If you cannot find multiple, secondary, reliable, and independent sources that cover Charles Langtry then I am afraid that Charles would not meet the notability threshold at this time and therefore cannot have a Wikipedia article. Charles' presence on a war grave does not inherently confer notability because 20 million people died in WW1.
Secondly, conflict of interest is a key policy on Wikipedia and if you have a conflict you must disclose it. I believe you have a conflict of interest as you created the article J. M. Langtry (who does not seem to meet the notability threshold either!) and it is strange you would create two articles for people with the same surname.
Thirdly, please read Wikipedia:MEMORIAL which details that Wikipedia articles cannot be made for deceased people unless they meet the above mentioned notability threshold.
Finally, please stop being vaguely belligerent to us regarding this. You have to work within Wikipedia's policies.
Your next steps:
  • declare your conflict of interest, if you have one
  • read the Wikipedia:Notability (people) policy in detail
  • read the Wikipedia:MEMORIAL page
  • see if you can find multiple, secondary, reliable, and independent sources that cover Charles Langtry in detail, and use them to cite his article
  • do the same for J. M. Langtry
Hope that helps, Qcne (talk) 15:10, 7 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
