2017 Kids' Choice Awards

Would you be able to open this up to creation as semi-protected? We now have nominations, date, venue and host so there's no more concern about everything being faked, but we still need enough protection to keep the regular vandals out. Thank you. Nate (chatter) 03:54, 5 February 2017 (UTC)

@Mrschimpf: Isn't it a bit early, still? Is there enough material for writing stuff on it yet? Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 10:52, 5 February 2017 (UTC)

DYK for Koh-i-Sultan

On 5 February 2017, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Koh-i-Sultan, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Koh-i-Sultan volcano in Pakistan last erupted approximately 90,000 years ago and still displays fumarolic activity? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Koh-i-Sultan. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Koh-i-Sultan), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Just read through the article - good job. I do have a question, in the very last paragraph there is a red link to autophyllite. It is listed as a component of a red ochre along with gypsum, but what is it? I can find nothing. The reference is to a journal to which I don't have access. Not listed as a mineral that I can find. Could there be a typo? Thanks, Vsmith (talk) 03:03, 5 February 2017 (UTC)
Indeed, it should have been anthophyllite. Now fixed. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 10:56, 5 February 2017 (UTC)
Thanks - that works, altho the association seems a bit odd. Vsmith (talk) 13:07, 5 February 2017 (UTC)

FAC reviewing barnstar

The Reviewer Barnstar
FAC can't function without people like you contributing reviews. Thank you for the five image reviews you did during January. Mike Christie (talk - contribs - library) 02:54, 8 February 2017 (UTC)

The editor who uploaded this added it to the Durham Cathedral article, where the caption, "View of the Chapel of the Nine Altars", identifies it. Peter James (talk) 18:26, 8 February 2017 (UTC)

The image uploaded over it was used in the King family (Emmerdale) article, now redirected; it should probably be deleted as an unused and probably non-free image. Peter James (talk) 18:34, 8 February 2017 (UTC)

@Peter James: Send the image to FFD for that questionable revision; the file rename should probably wait until the FFD concludes, unless you want to request a rename immediately. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 19:44, 8 February 2017 (UTC)

uBreakiFix Articles for Deletion

Hello,

i would like to dispute the deletion of the uBreakiFix Wikipedia page. (https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/UBreakiFix) I have been in contact with the company and they are willing to update the page if it is restored to adhere to Wikipedia's guidelines. They beleive that the page will be helpful for users who hope to learn more about the company, and do not wish to violate Wikipedia's guidelines. I saw that you indicated that the page was deleted "temporarily in case it becomes notable after all." If the page is restored, the company wishes to improve it. Would you be able to restore it? --Sparklife22 (talk) 17:30, 8 February 2017 (UTC)Sparklife22, 8 February 2017

Greetings, @Sparklife22:. Unfortunately, when we talk about "notable" we mean what other people - reliable sources as we call them - have to say about the company. What the company has to say about itself does not really create notability. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 19:46, 8 February 2017 (UTC)

Thanks for the quick response, Jo-Jo Eumerus. I understand this. The company wishes to update the page using reliable sources. As the article you linked in your comment indicates, reliable sources include articles from reputable news outlets, in which the company has been mentioned. If we were able to update the page using reliable sources, would it be eligible for restoration? --Sparklife22 (talk) 20:37, 8 February 2017 (UTC)Sparklife22, 8 February 2017

Yes, but these sources need to be more than a passing mention. And interviews are often frowned upon as sources. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 20:42, 8 February 2017 (UTC)

Got it! Well uBreakiFix actually has significant organic coverage, such as: Entrepreneur Franchise 500 - based solely on franchise information Forbes 30 Under 30 in Consumer Tech - based on financial information and company background, determined by an objective judging panel. More than 15,000 applicants for 600 spots—under 4% acceptance rate. Partnership with Google - shared on Business Insider, Digital Trends, Slash Gear and dozens of other sites. The company's founding story is also detailed in Inc. Are the following considered to be reliable sources? --Sparklife22 (talk) 17:19, 10 February 2017 (UTC)Sparklife22, 10 February 2017

Maaybe. Some of these sources look like directory listings or seem to be saying the same thing. I'd defer to WP:DELREV. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 17:21, 10 February 2017 (UTC)

Moving files to Commons

Hi Jo-Jo Eumerus. Since you do some work with files, I'm wondering if you know what happens to files tagged with {{Copy to Wikimedia Commons}}. I've been going to through some The CW non-free logos and converting those which I believe are below c:COM:TOO#United States (based upon c:Category:The CW logos) to {{PD-logo}} and tagging them for a move to Commons. Many of these files, such as File:KCWE29.png are quite old and have been updated a number of times. Unfortunately in many cases, those doing the updating either forgot to or simply didn't think to update the file's source info, etc. so much of the information in the non-free use rationale is basically for the very first version uploaded. What happens to the older versions deleted per WP:F5 when a non-free file such as this is converted to PD or a free license? Does the editor/bot moving the file to Commons also undelete all the previous versions and move them as well? -- Marchjuly (talk) 05:01, 15 February 2017 (UTC)

Greetings, Marchjuly. By default nothing happens to deleted versions, since files can be moved over by non-admins. If there is a deleted version you may want to ask on WP:REFUND whether it's worth restoring in such cases. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 15:47, 15 February 2017 (UTC)
Thank you for clarifying things. -- Marchjuly (talk) 23:46, 15 February 2017 (UTC)

ZipRecruiter

Hello,

I see that you have closed the ZipRecruiter page, and I am looking to reinstate it. Per the note on our page, 'If you are recreating a page similar to the previously deleted page, or are unsure, please first contact the user(s) who performed the action(s) listed below' I am contacting you before I do so! I work at ZipRecruiter, but I do not want our page to include any marketing or bias. Here is what I have proposed for the article request:

Let me know what I need to do to get the ZipRecruiter page back up, I very much look forward to finding out how I can improve our page. Thank you so much for your help!

ZipRecruiter (talk) 19:46, 17 February 2017 (UTC)

ZipRecruiter, just as a note regarding your username - we don't allow usernames that represent companies or organizations. Please go to WP:CHUS to request a username change. As for the article - if Jo-Jo declines to reinstate the page, I encourage you to recreate the page as a draft via the Article Wizard, which will be reviewed by experienced editors after submission. Primefac (talk) 19:56, 17 February 2017 (UTC) (talk page stalker)
Greetings, ZipRecruiter. I can't say whether these sources would satisfy the notability requirements; best to try through Wikipedia:Articles for creation using these sources. The advice by Primefac on your username is also worth heeding. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 12:27, 18 February 2017 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Files for discussion/2017 February 19

Would you consider re-listing some to all of the Star Trek images at February 19 FFD? Those now deleted were available for comment less than 24 hours-some for about 2 hours before deletion. It would seem that many of those involved in the Star Trek project did not have a chance to comment or vote re: their deletion.

This editor did the same thing with Twilight Zone photos for individual episodes about 2-3 years ago, with most being deleted. I was able to upload some PD photos from the episodes before this, and to locate some which are PD after the deletions, but there doesn't seem to be a way to replace all of them with PD images. I doubt there will be many PD images to be found for replacement of those taken to FFD.

It seems we treat these television episode photos somewhat differently than other non-free media images. There's no commotion about non-free film posters when there are no PD ones. The use of the non-free photo in an infobox for identification here doesn't seem to matter, as it appears to with a film or even the parent article for a television series. If there was a soap opera, "Super Soap Opera", with a character named John Doe, I understand it's not necessary to have a photo of every actor who played the role. but it seems like these two television series are getting short shrift. Thanks for listening, We hope (talk) 16:36, 19 February 2017 (UTC)

@We hope: You talking about these that were deleted under G7? The others are not eligible for deletion yet. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 17:07, 19 February 2017 (UTC)
It looks like the uploader became upset enough to G7 them after they were called "decorations to infoboxes". I was dragged into this when the editor tagged a PD photo of mine as not meeting NFCC and had an invalid FUR. It just reminded me so much of what happened with the Twilight Zone photos, which were not G7s and were deleted after discussion. Didn't want to see the same thing happen here. Thanks, We hope (talk) 17:19, 19 February 2017 (UTC)

Deletion of Cameron Whitten

Dear Jo-Jo Eumerus: Last fall you deleted the article Cameron Whitten after a discussion Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Cameron Whitten. This is an article that I accepted through WP:AFC after I had found multiple news reports about this fellow. At the time of the discussion I was in the hospital and unable to add my opinion. While I agree that the comments in the discussion were negative, it is usual for editors who feel that an article's references are weak to look for more or better ones before deleting. If I had been available, I would have added some of these, most of which I found by just putting the fellow's name into Google and selecting "news":

and more recently he has been involved in another incident:

Although it is possible as was claimed in the deletion discussion that some of the information was written initially because of his mayoralty campaign, in fact over half of the article was written by me after finding information in news reports, and I removed any existing text that didn't appear consistent with reliable sources. I have never been anywhere near Portland. I hope you will agree that the article should be restored; if you don't agree, that's fine; I will take it to Wikipedia:Deletion review.—Anne Delong (talk) 06:17, 23 February 2017 (UTC)

Greetings, @Anne Delong:. Seems like you have a legit case for restoration there, so I won't object. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 16:00, 23 February 2017 (UTC)

Technical pump thread

Belatedly catching up on a technical thread I started that drifted into the archives last month: you suggested here that I "resurrect the discussion and ask for a formal close". What would that actually entail? Moving the thread out of the archive and adding a comment to the bottom asking for a formal close of it, or posting a brief request at WP:VPR (or elsewhere) asking for an admin to go to the VPR archives and formally close the thread? Or something else? Any advice appreciated. --McGeddon (talk) 09:32, 24 February 2017 (UTC)
