Wikipedia and copyright

Your additions to Gary Kurfirst have been removed in whole or in part, as they appear to have added copyrighted content without evidence that the source material is in the public domain or has been released by its owner or legal agent under a suitably free and compatible copyright license. - Hello Compassionate727!, thank you for reaching out to me. I completely understand your message and wish to rectify. I believe the question on hand pertains to the issue with CelebrityAccess. I have access/proof to the original source of the copy that was placed within Gary Kurfirst Wikipedia page from the original Author, Katie Elliot. CelebrityAccess actually used Katie's copy and placed it within their site. In this particular case, what would be the best course of action to resolve this and have my most recent changes placed back. Would putting you in contact with Katie solve this? - Normally, we would ask her to update the page containing her article to license it under a CC-BY-SA-compatible license, but I'm guessing that she doesn't control the CelebrityAccess website, and if she sold the rights to her article to them, this may not be legally possible anyway. - @Jmaya10: Thank you for your interest in working on Wikipedia. There are a couple of problems with your submission. You cannot post copyright material on Wikipedia even if you are the copyright holder or have their permission, unless special documentation is in place. That is because Wikipedia aims to be freely distributable and copyable by anyone, and all content must have the appropriate documentation in place before that can happen. Please see Wikipedia:donating copyrighted materials which explains how it works.The second problem is that you appear to have a conflict of interest. Writing or editing an article about a client or someone you know personally is strongly discouraged, as it is difficult to maintain the required neutral point of view. According to our terms of use, paid editors and people editing on behalf of their employer are required to disclose their conflict of interest by posting a notice on their user page or talk page. Managing a conflict of interest

We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on the page Gary Kurfirst, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for article subjects for more information. [edit]Hi Jmaya10! I noticed that you recently marked an edit as minor at Gary Kurfirst that may not have been. "Minor edit" has a specific definition on Wikipedia—it refers only to superficial edits that could never be the subject of a dispute, such as typo corrections or reverting obvious vandalism. - Hello Wikishovel, great speaking to you here and thank you for bringing this to my attention. I understand and appreciate everything Wikipedia stands for. I just noticed the page for Gary Kurfirst was reverted back to an earlier edition, however, I asked that I may be given an opportunity to correct the issues at hand with the tone and copy that was used. If the page could be please reverted to the newest edition and given a reasonable timeframe to correct, I would greatly appreciate that. - Unfortunately that article can't be moved to draft, because it was created in 2009.

- @Wikishovel - I understand. I am currently assisting Gary's son in correcting the current copy and adding information. There is incorrect information that my new copy is correcting and is being supported by the references I am adding. However, I did speak to Gary's son in editing the copy that was recently placed in order to remove anything that would be deem as conflict of interest, which include conjecture, certain adjectives, etc., and only being supported by references. I am attempting to grab the most recent copy that I placed, however, there is a strikethrough on my version within the history. Anyway that can be reverted so I may view my version on my end alone? - The content is struck through in the edit history because it again contained a significant amount of copyrighted content, which Wikipedia is legally obliged to remove. Please don't try to re-add that.

- @Wikishovel - Understood. I believe that was a previous edit of mine involving a CelebrityAccess article, however, I am no longer placing that reference or copy on my newest iteration. I am now only placing copy with references from reputable and well known websites, but in my own words. My connection is professional, but not specific to Wikipedia, but I am in fact assistance him in using this platform. But I am solely writing the copy myself to avoid any connection to a possible conflict by avoiding certain adjectives and tone. Thank you again for your assistance on this. - Hello @Wikishovel - I hope you've been well. I have a quick question I was hoping you could answer me. I am re-working a lot of the content I had contributed to the Gary Kurfirst page and was hoping to have my copy reviewed by Wikipedia before publishing. By doing so, I am hoping to avoid any issues with references/citations and overall updated content being placed. Since the page is not a new page (which automatically has to be sent for review before publishing), I was wondering if there is anyway I can send it to Wikipedia for review. The content currently in place is incorrect and many well known publications support my edit versus what is currently displayed so I am hoping to get it updated ASAP. I know Wikipedia strives in only showcasing accurate and appropriately supported content only, so I hope to help with this on the Gary Kurfirst page. Hello Jmaya. The good news is that yes, there is an easy way to submit the draft for review. In the draft headers at the top of the page, look for a button labelled "Submit the draft for review!", hit that, and it will be added to the queue of "articles for creation", for which there's an active group of reviewers. - Hello, since you're proposing changes to a published article, the best course would be to propose them at Talk:Gary Kurfirst. For some guidelines and good practices on this, please see Wikipedia:Edit requests, especially the section about making requests where there's a declared conflict of interest. I hope that's useful. - No the draft doesn't need to stay open, you can save your progress by clicking the "Publish changes" button at the bottom of the draft article. This only saves your changes to the draft, and doesn't "publish" the article to the main article space. Wikishovel (talk) 04:41, 28 August 2024 (UTC)
