2010 WikiCup Signups Reconfirmation!
To ensure that everyone who signed up is still committed to participating in the 2010 WikiCup, it is required that you remove your name from this list! By removing your name, you are not removing yourself from the WikiCup. This is simply a way for the judges to take note of who has not yet reconfirmed their participation. If you have not removed your name from that list by December 30th, 2009 (by 23:59 (UTC)) then your name will be removed from the WikiCup.
It's worth noting the rules have changed, likely after you signed up. The changes made thus far are:
- Mainspace and/or portal edits will not be awarded points at all.
- Did you know? articles (which were worth 5 points last year) will now be worth 10 points.
- Good articles (which were worth 30 points last year) will now be worth 40 points.
- Valued pictures will be now awarded points, however the amount (5 or 10 points) is still being discussed.
- Featured lists (which were worth 30 points last year) will now be worth 40 points.
- Featured portals (which were worth 25 points last year) will now be worth 35 points.
- Featured articles (which were worth 50 points last year) will now be worth 100 points.
- Featured topics (which were worth 10 points per article last year) will now be worth 15 points per any article in the topic that you were a major contributor to.
- Good topics (which were worth 5 points per article last year) will now be worth 10 points per any article in the topic that you were a major contributor to.
- In the news will still be awarded points, however the amount (5 or 10 points) is still being discussed.
If you have any final concerns about the WikiCup's rules and regulations, please ask them now, before the Cup begins to avoid last minute problems. You may come to the WikiCup's talk page, or any of the judge's user talk pages. We're looking forwards to a great 2010 WikiCup! On behalf of the WikiCup judges, iMatthew talk at 03:44, 5 December 2009 (UTC)

Last chance to confirm your WikiCup participation!
Hi Jj137! This is the last message that will go out to remind you that in order to participate in the 2010 WikiCup, you MUST remove your name from this list! Again, the reason for this reconfirmation is to ensure you've looked over the updated point values (which were different at the time you signed up) and to ensure that you are still interested in competing! If you don't have time to participate or no longer wish to, ignore this message and leave your name on the list. All names on the list will be removed from the contestants list before the Cup starts. Unreferenced BLPs
Hello Jj137! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 1 of the articles that you created is an Unreferenced Biography of a Living Person. Please note that all biographies of living persons must be sourced. If you were to add reliable, secondary sources to this article, it would greatly help us with the current 1 article backlog. Once the article is adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the article:

The article Peter O. Price has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- Zero sources for almost 3 years.
While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Bearian (talk) 06:50, 29 January 2010 (UTC)

Adoption
Hi. I'm interested in being adopted, and looking through the adopters, I saw you. I was looking for someone with similar qualifications (probably not the best way to put it) as you. Even better yet, we live in the same time zone! If you would be willing to adopt me, please leave me a note on my talk page. Thanks! Hamtechperson 02:09, 18 February 2010 (UTC)
- Hi there! Unfortunately, I don't think I would be a particularly good adopter right now. I should probably update my status on that page-- I've very seldom been online the past few months because of time constraints (real life). However, if (when) I once again become an active member of the community, I'll always be here for help. Hope you can understand. JJ (talk) 01:59, 23 February 2010 (UTC)

Hi JJ,
I hope this is the right place to ask you a question. I had written a page on the Waco Convention Center several years ago, and read about the deletion just now. I am still Director of Sales for the center, and just wanted to ask if it were possible to consider having a page for this center. It's one of the biggest convention centers in Texas, and there are so many other facilities listed. I could imagine some people might come to Wikipedia to look it up. If it were a tiny, municipal civic center, it might not be important enough to warrant an article in Wikipedia, but this is a 119,000 sq. ft. convention center that gets a lot of use by statewide groups such as the Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association (3,500 attendees, meeting at this facility for over 35 years), the Technology Students Association convention (about 4,000 attendees), and many others.
Also, the facility is undergoing a $17.5 million renovation right now, which should be finished by Summer 2011.
Please let me know your thoughts. Thanks.

Re: Hey
Today, I randomly decided to check who was still regularly editing here. And the first thing I see when I typed in your name? "User talk:Instinct."
Talk about coincidence. Anyways, things have been pretty good. But not in the NBA/NFL/MLB :( Looks like another victorious year for the Yankees. Celtics are doing horrible, LOSING to the Nets.
Anyways....how are things on your end? « Instinct » 01:36, 31 March 2010 (UTC)
- Ha! That's quite ironic. But yeah, losing to the Nets this year isn't exactly something to be proud of, lol. In baseball, the Yankees basically bought last year's World Series, if you ask me, and I hope they don't do it again.
- I'm pretty busy these days over here (evidenced by this ridiculously late reply)... school, sports, etc. ... oh, and MW2 :P
- Do you edit here much anymore? I'll probably edit somewhat more once summer rolls around. JJ (talk) 01:14, 19 April 2010 (UTC)
- Red Sox are sucking D: and I think that the Yankees did buy the World Series again. But Celtics are doing fine in the playoffs (although I don't expect them to win). But, anyways, speaking of MW2, send me your GT (or ps3??) :D And I’ll probably be back when summer comes around as well. (But then again its summer 24/7 365 in TX :P) « Instinct » 22:44, 21 April 2010 (UTC)
- Yeah, the Reds aren't exactly doing well either. :/ Lol Texas... the weather is ridiculously unpredictable here. That must be pretty awesome. :D (oh, and sent you my GT) JJ (talk) 00:59, 26 April 2010 (UTC)

Hello. Just to let you know that I am creating an article that you deleted in 2008. You did right back then, but since then, mostly in the last year, the particular footballer has played in a professional league, now being able of having an article here. Please feel free to contact me if needed. Best regards, FkpCascais (talk) 03:12, 2 July 2010 (UTC)
- No concerns, sounds good to me. JJ (talk) 19:26, 5 July 2010 (UTC)
Restore article: "twinless twin"
You appear to have been the administrator who authorized removal of the "twinless twin" article (a deletion suggested by Tone in March of 2008).
I wish it to be restored. There are groups of twinless twins to be found on four continents. As well, there is a considerable body of work and information including anecdotal, researched, and published studies on twinless twins and the phenomenologies of surviving twin grief processes and mortality rates (including higher incidence of suicide).
The entry appears to have been deleted without objection, although there were and are comments about its removal on the TWIN TWIN talk section from both myself and Algis Davidavicius , to wit:
===
"Hello -- I am a twinless twin (my identical brother died at our premature birth). I totally missed any information on fate of surviving twins that necesarrily maintain very often unconscious bond with their deceased half ("lone twin syndrome"). The feelings of being utterly lonely and being only half of some lost whole is common to all surviving multiples. How can I correct this article -- to whom must I write suggestions and provide materials pls.?
Sincerely -- Algis Davidavicius (Shim Gong), shimgong@gmail.com. . I am ALSO a twinless twin and am distressed that the entire article on "twinless twin/s" was deleted, despite an emerging body of international case studies and other scholarly works on the subject. As well, some articles still link to the removed item [Philip K. Dick] and Wiki Section G.8 would seem to make its removal somewhat baffling.
Todd, twin to Marcus
===
I am raising such objection now, and have done so in the appropriate forum, as well.
Your suggestion for deletion was allowed to pass without objection under Section G8 ( "Pages dependent on a non-existent or deleted page such as talk pages with no corresponding subject page; subpages with no parent page; image pages without a corresponding image; redirects to invalid targets, such as nonexistent targets, redirect loops, and bad titles; and categories populated by deleted or retargeted templates. This excludes any page that is useful to the project, and in particular: deletion discussions that are not logged elsewhere." )
Philip K. Dick is still footnoted as having been a "twinless twin," and links to an invalid (i.e., deleted) target page.
Please restore the article in its entirety. I will be happy to add the additional, updated information as to other groups in Australia, New Zealand, and additional scholarly articles, papers, and the like.
Todd Eliot --- ToddSurfsLBCA@yahoo.com ToddSurfs (talk) 08:12, 7 July 2010 (UTC)
- You would be best off talking with Tone; I personally had nothing to do with the article- just routine deletions of the time. JJ (talk) 16:11, 11 July 2010 (UTC)
Thanks for the reply. Tone's been contacted, and the article is now onboard for review, and possible restoration. Tone is remaining neutral on the matter, although one of the few votes "in favor of keeping it deleted" cites the article Tone put forth for deletion actually HAVING been deleted as the reason for keeping it deleted. (a genetic logical fallacy: a bit of a spin on "argumentum ad antiquitatem" favoring keeping the status quocommon logical fallacy in which a thesis is deemed correct on the basis that it correlates with some past or present tradition. Currently, the discussion seems to indicate that most are in favor of restoring the entry. Hello, I noticed on the red sox page under the retired numbers section where it say numbers that have not been issued since player departure under 21-roger clemens it says jarrod saltalamacchia currently wears the number. Adopt-a-user reminder
Hello, I have completed a general cleanup of the adopter information page for the adopt-a-user project, locatedhere. During my cleanup, I have removed several inactive and retired users. In order to provide interested adoptees with an easy location to find adopters, it is essential that the page be up-to-date with the latest information possible. Thus:
- If you are no longer interested in being an adopter, please remove yourself from the list.
- If you are still interested, please check the list to see if any information needs to be updated or added - especially your availability. Thank you.
- You are receiving this message because you are listed as an adopter here.

An update from adopt a user
Hi there Jj137! You may be wondering, what have I done to sound the alarm this time? Nothing. I'm messaging you in regards to the adopt-a-user program, which currently has a backlog of users wishing to be adopted. This doesn't make much sense, as we have a considerable list of users offer adoption, so there shouldn't be any backlog. I've begun to eliminate this backlog myself through a matching program, but I need your help to make it work. Of course, adoptees and adopters don't have to go through there, but I believe it helps eliminate the backlog because someone is actively matching pairs.
On the list of adopters, I have modified the middle column to say "Interests." It's easier working with other users that have similar interests, so if it's not too much to ask, could you add your interests in the middle column? For example, if I was interested in hurricanes, computers, business, and ... reptiles? I would place those in the middle column. Counter-vandalism and the like can also be included (maintenance should be used as the general term). The more interests, the better, since adoptees can learn more about you and choose the one they feel most comfortable working with. The information about when you're most active and other stuff can go into the "Notes" section to the right.
Finally, I've gone around and asked adoptees (and will in the future) to fill in a short survey so adopters can take the initiative and contact users they feel comfortable working with. We all know that most adoptees just place the adopt me template on their user page and leave it - so it's up to us to approach them and offer adoption. So, please take a look at the survey, adopt those that fit your interests, and maybe watchlist it so you can see the interests of adoptees and adopt one that fits your interests in the future.
Once again, thank you for participating in the adopt-a-user program! If you wish to respond to this post, please message me on my talk page.

- Sorry bro, I'm not sure there's a lot I can do for you. While you could recreate the article yourself, you aren't allowed to make promotional pages or articles that you are directly related to... meaning someone else would delete it again shortly. I probably could have given you a more specific answer 4 years ago (when I deleted the page), but unfortunately that's the best I have. JJ (talk) 04:16, 28 August 2011 (UTC)

Baseball Cards As Pictures?
Hi There,
I am new to wikipedia (longtime user) and I was wondering what the policy is for adding scans of baseball cards for player biographies. It seems like it would be fair use. Record album covers are used throughout wikipedia and there are hundreds of thousands of websites using scanned images of cards...
I have thousands of Red Sox baseball cards and I think they would add greatlty to player's pages.
Is there a policy in place? I haven't been able to find one. I'd love to add faces to the hundreds of players' pages that have worn the Red Sox uniform.
ProfessorTombstone (talk) 05:42, 10 December 2011 (UTC)ProfessorTombstone
- Hey there! If you haven't found a policy for baseball cards yet, I'd guess there isn't one. It more has to do with the various copyright laws in regards to pictures; fair use is what most of them would fall under. Some of the older ones may be in the public domain because of their age, in which case they can be used in any manner. There are enough player biographies on this website that not every player has the luxury of a photo (so far)--simply because there are so many articles and not as many editors. Personally, I think baseball cards would be a great addition to quite a few pages, and I would also love to see it happen. To get a more widespread opinion from the baseball contributors, I'd recommend posting here.
- Best of luck, and let me know if you need anything! I'm looking forward to seeing how this plays out. JJ (talk) 18:57, 11 December 2011 (UTC)

MSU Interview
Dear Jj147,
My name is Jonathan Obar user:Jaobar, I'm a professor in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences at Michigan State University and a Teaching Fellow with the Wikimedia Foundation's Education Program. This semester I've been running a little experiment at MSU, a class where we teach students about becoming Wikipedia administrators. Not a lot is known about your community, and our students (who are fascinated by wiki-culture by the way!) want to learn how you do what you do, and why you do it. A while back I proposed this idea (the class) to the communityHERE, where it was met mainly with positive feedback. Anyhow, I'd like my students to speak with a few administrators to get a sense of admin experiences, training, motivations, likes, dislikes, etc. We were wondering if you'd be interested in speaking with one of our students.
So a few things about the interviews:
- Interviews will last between 15 and 30 minutes.
- Interviews can be conducted over skype (preferred), IRC or email. (You choose the form of communication based upon your comfort level, time, etc.)
- All interviews will be completely anonymous, meaning that you (real name and/or pseudonym) will never be identified in any of our materials, unless you give the interviewer permission to do so.
- All interviews will be completely voluntary. You are under no obligation to say yes to an interview, and can say no and stop or leave the interview at any time.
- The entire interview process is being overseen by MSU's institutional review board (ethics review). This means that all questions have been approved by the university and all students have been trained how to conduct interviews ethically and properly.
Bottom line is that we really need your help, and would really appreciate the opportunity to speak with you. If interested, please send me an email at obar@msu.edu (to maintain anonymity) and I will add your name to my offline contact list. If you feel comfortable doing so, you can post your nameHERE instead.
If you have questions or concerns at any time, feel free to email me at obar@msu.edu. I will be more than happy to speak with you.
Thanks in advance for your help. We have a lot to learn from you.
Sincerely,
Jonathan Obar --Jaobar (talk) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Chlopeck (talk • contribs) 23:03, 15 February 2012 (UTC)

Invitation to events in June and July: bot, script, template, and Gadget makers wanted
I invite you to the yearly Berlin hackathon, 1-3 June. Registration is now open. If you need financial assistance or help with visa or hotel, then please register by May 1st and mention it in the registration form.
This is the premier event for the MediaWiki and Wikimedia technical community. We'll be hacking, designing, teaching, and socialising, primarily talking about ResourceLoader and Gadgets (extending functionality with JavaScript), the switch to Lua for templates, Wikidata, and Wikimedia Labs.
We want to bring 100-150 people together, including lots of people who have not attended such events before. User scripts, gadgets, API use, Toolserver, Wikimedia Labs, mobile, structured data, templates -- if you are into any of these things, we want you to come!
I also thought you might want to know about other upcoming events where you can learn more about MediaWiki customization and development, how to best use the web API for bots, and various upcoming features and changes. We'd love to have power users, bot maintainers and writers, and template makers at these events so we can all learn from each other and chat about what needs doing.
Check out the the developers' days preceding Wikimania in July in Washington, DC and our other events.
Best wishes! - Sumana Harihareswara, Wikimedia Foundation's Volunteer Development Coordinator. Please reply on my talk page, here or at mediawiki.org. Sumana Harihareswara, Wikimedia Foundation Volunteer Development Coordinator 20:20, 2 April 2012 (UTC)
User script list deprecation
Wikipedia's list of user scripts is in bad shape, in that it is disorganized and contains many non-working, unmaintained, or thoroughly obsolete entries. Cleanup has been on the to-do list since 2007, but little progress has been made. Instead, the whole list is now set to be deprecated on 1 May 2012, to be replaced with a new list. This draft list has been up for about a month, and in that time I've been soliciting script users and authors to come add scripts they know to be working and relevant.
If you know of scripts that you would like to survive this deprecation (and are confirmed working and relevant), you're welcome to add them to the new list. Note that the old list will be retained and linked from the main list, so there is no real deadline. Thanks for your help. Equazcion (talk) 00:56, 22 Apr 2012 (UTC)

The article Darlia has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- An IP has tagged this for deletion saying that there is no such genus. I have searched for "darlia moth" and can't find any sources. The page was created using WP:AWB so may have been a mistake.
While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. SmartSE (talk) 17:27, 1 December 2012 (UTC)

Following a community discussion in June 2011, consensus was reached to provisionally suspend the administrative permissions of users who have been inactive for one year (i.e. administrators who have not made any edits or logged actions in over one year). As a result of this discussion, your administrative permissions will be removed pending your return if you do not return to activity within the next month. If you wish to have these permissions reinstated should this occur, please post to the Wikipedia:Bureaucrats' noticeboard and the userright will be restored per the re-sysopping process (i.e. as long as the attending bureaucrats are reasonably satisfied that your account has not been compromised, that your inactivity did not have the effect of evading scrutiny of any actions which might have led to sanctions, and that you have not been inactive for a three year period of time). If you remain inactive for a three year period of time, including the present year you have been inactive, you will need to request reinstatement at WP:RFA. This removal of access is procedural only, and not intended to reflect negatively upon you in any way. We wish you the best in future endeavors, and thank you for your past administrative efforts. Notification of automated file description generation
Your upload of File:Bosox newsletter.GIF or contribution to its description is noted, and thanks (even if belatedly) for your contribution. In order to help make better use of the media, an attempt has been made by an automated process to identify and add certain information to the media's description page.
This notification is placed on your talk page because a bot has identified you either as the uploader of the file, or as a contributor to its metadata. It would be appreciated if you could carefully review the information the bot added. To opt out of these notifications, please follow the instructions here. Thanks! Notification of imminent suspension of administrative permissions due to inactivity
Following a community discussion in June 2011, consensus was reached to provisionally suspend the administrative permissions of users who have been inactive for one year (i.e. administrators who have not made any edits or logged actions in over one year). As a result of this discussion, your administrative permissions will be removed pending your return if you do not return to activity within the next several days. Speedy deletion nomination of Batenia
If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. This is a notice to inform you that a tag has been placed on Batenia requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an article with no content whatsoever, or whose contents consist only of external links, a "See also" section, book references, category tags, template tags, interwiki links, images, a rephrasing of the title, a question that should have been asked at the help or reference desks, or an attempt to contact the subject of the article. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. bojo1498 talk 18:56, 15 October 2014 (UTC)
Anyone there? =)
Hello,
I found some of your old 2007 edits while clicking through 'random articles' - You are clearly a very experienced and valuable editor and I hope that someday you will return! I am fairly new to editing and I struggle to find the time to do anything constructive so I know what its like to have long break. Just wanted to let you know that as a community, we could do with you back and hope to see you soon. ツStacey (talk) 14:36, 14 December 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks! Obviously it has been several years since I've been very active here...real life stuff, ya know? Maybe someday I'll make a valiant return. ;) Gabe (talk) 17:24, 25 February 2015 (UTC)

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Proposed deletion of Fasslatonius
The article Fasslatonius has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- I can't find this genus of butterfly in any reliable sources. It might be a typo for Fasslantonius which is a redirect to Paiwarria.
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. SchreiberBike | ⌨ 04:38, 5 January 2017 (UTC)
