It seems to be working out well enough. Life has been delightful including the Jersey City Ward Tour a week and a half ago and yesterday's group of 18 hot and humid old folks biking through The Bronx, Yonkers and Hastings (I know the number because a head count was among my duties). Summertime means more time pedaling around snapping pictures and less time processing them, so I am just today handling pix of JC taken 'way back on April 14 on my way back from Secaucus. This weekend I must mostly stay indoors and hope to get my backlog down to a month and a half. Maybe it will be easier after retiring from my job in a few months. Probably not; more free time means more happy time on the road. Hope you're doing well, Adam, on your summer vacation from school. Jim.henderson (talk) 17:20, 4 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, Jim. I created a Cuban Day Parade category on the Commons, but now that I think about it, the more specific North Hudson Cuban Day Parade would be a better title. Can Commons categories be "moved" they way Wikipedia articles can? Do you know how to do that? Let me know. Thanks. Nightscream (talk) 04:47, 9 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, is currently undergoing a two-month trial scheduled to end 15 August 2010.
Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under pending changes. Pending changes is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.
When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.
Is there any chance you have some pics from Queens Village, Queens in your files, or know of some other editor who has them? I just uploaded nearly a dozen of Queens Village (LIRR station) yesterday, and I've seriously considered creating a new category for it. However, this would also be a subcategory of the neighborhood itself. I don't want to stick to the commons cat "Queens, New York City" if I don't have to. ----DanTD (talk) 12:14, 1 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I would hang the subcat from Jamaica, since QV lies south of the Moraine, was in that Township, and has a 114 ZIP code. No; got no pix from there, or nearly anywhere, that I haven't already uploaded. Just the seven weeks backlog of ones snapped on bike trips, now working through my May 16th trip in western Essex and southern Morris Counties. And an hour from now I'll be pedaling north with a biker gang through Central Park for today's target, Piermont, New York. So few days in a lifetime; so many interesting places to go and photograph. Jim.henderson (talk) 12:25, 1 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I didn't like categorizing a neighborhood as being in Jamaica when it's so far from Jamaica, but I did it anyway. I even included a pair of old maps of the station. Check it out. ----DanTD (talk) 13:50, 1 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
In the former township but not in the former village now called "Downtown" Jamaica, so there's room for judgement. My Piermont expedition stopped at Englewood Cliffs when a lack of food and money came to light and I returned to GW Bridge. As it happens, the Tour de Queens is next weekend. Route from Flushing is unknown to me, but might go through QV or I could go there afterward. We'll see. Busy, busy. Biking to Brooklyn tomorrow, probably by Marcy Ave in Bed-Stuy so as to catch a few landmarked schools and armories. Jim.henderson (talk) 02:22, 3 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Jim, I see that I'm not the only editor intrigued by your prolific photographic record of New York City. May I add another request? I see that you have a photograph of the meridian mall on Allen Street, looking south from Delancey, which is used to illustrate Allen Street (Manhattan). Is there a chance that you may have a photograph of the building at the southwest corner of Allen and Delancey? That would be 105 Allen, and I believe that is the same building that was the site of a horrific fire in 1905 that claimed the lives of 20 people. I'm considering starting an article on that fire, but I've found no photos of the building, either then or now. I was thinking of stopping by sometime to photograph it myself, but was wondering if you'd done so already. Thanks, ScottyBerg (talk) 18:04, 12 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
(sigh)Sometimes I think someone should make a Google Street View crown for me to wear, instead of a helmet when bicycling, recording panoramic views of everything I pass. Anyway, no, I have no indication or recollection that I swiveled 60 degrees right and got that shot. There's a chance my return from Williamsburg tomorrow evening will be on Delancey Street and we'll see if it yields a picture though Sun angle is likely to be unfavorable, or the trip might even be cancelled or go over another bridge. Jim.henderson (talk) 23:43, 12 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Hey Jim, I just referenced that latin inscription on the page. If you go to the reference you'll see that it's so. Yet I don't think that the referenced webpage looks too reliable, so if you believe that you can correct the Latin grammar please do.
I actually used some translator (and it say that the phrase translates to "Sweetness and Beauty is for fatherland to die,"yet I also know that these translators aren't reliable, because if I input a Spanish phrase I often get gibberish. So if you're fluent in Latin please help.
I didn't really learn Latin and can't find my grammar book but I'm pretty sure "decori" is plural, while the other adjective "dulce" is correctly written as singular. Also the second "i" in "morii" invalidates it from being a word at all. I think. The more usual version from Horatius is "Dulce et decorum est pro patria mori". So, though a Latin scholar might help, what we need is a reliable source for the inscription. Even better if someone can supply a photo, in a country I have never visited. Jim.henderson (talk) 13:20, 5 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Luck has a lot to do with it. Having looked at the Avenue of Americas article for downtown reasons, the next day I was looking in the Manhattan image category with a view to subdividing it. Ain't gonna do that, but wow, someone's unused and precisely relevant photo was sitting there, waiting to be picked up. In a few hours I expect to be walking up the Avenue in Midtown and will look out for other surviving signs. Oh, and I hope you'll be among the NY photohounds at the Wikiconference at Waverly and Broadway at the end of the month. Jim.henderson (talk) 14:13, 13 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Walking from 29th to 59th, I found only some eight survivors, including Costa Rica, Honduras, Cuba, Chile, Haiti and Argentina, all between 55th and 58th. No new pic is much better than the old one. Jim.henderson (talk) 12:36, 15 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Hi. As you recently commented in the straw poll regarding the ongoing usage and trial of Pending changes, this is to notify you that there is an interim straw poll with regard to keeping the tool switched on or switching it off while improvements are worked on and due for release on November 9, 2010. This new poll is only in regard to this issue and sets no precedent for any future usage. Your input on this issue is greatly appreciated. Off2riorob (talk) 23:37, 20 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Hey Jim. Question, before the meet at 2:30 in Saturday, I'm coming in photography to take photography and other things. Would you consider joining me in Washington Heights and Inwood, get some nice photos at the northern end of Manhattan? (Coming in via PATH at the 9th Street station.)Mitch32(TransportationHistorian)11:14, 13 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
See ya there, Adam; whatever time and place you like. Have any particular targets in mind? Could even meet you in The Village when you change trains or whatever. I was in Wash Hgts last Thursday morning (arrived late for a group bike ride to Paramus) and continued on to Jerome Avenue. I intended to pass through again tomorrow on Broadway but the group ride to Goldens Bridge got cancelled an hour ago for rain in forecast. Jim.henderson (talk) 14:19, 13 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
9th street station would be fine, the library is what, 500 feet from the station? I think its really getting photos of streets and communities up there ;) - Find whatever we see.Mitch32(TransportationHistorian)22:51, 13 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Sounds good. If you had an exact time I could adjust my walking speed to arrive at the PATH exit, but maybe better to meet in the basement Reference Room of the library. Let's see; 40 minutes by IND from 14th Street to Ft Washington Ave, two hours walking mostly downhill and wandering, and 40 minutes by IRT from Inwood to Sheridan Square in time for the big meeting, would mean meeting at 11:10. I can easily make it 10:00 or whatever you like but any time after 12:00 would mean only a short visit to the north country. Jim.henderson (talk) 01:28, 14 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

According to your block log, you aren't blocked. You might be affected by a block on someone else, and need to deal with an autoblock.
Clearing an autoblock
Due to the nature of the block applied, we need additional information before we can decide whether to unblock you. It is very likely that you are not personally blocked. If you are prevented from editing, it may be because you are autoblocked or blocked because of your IP address. Without further details, there is nothing further we can do to review or lift your block. Please follow these instructions:
If you have a Wikipedia account, please ensure that you are logged in.
Your account name will be visible in the top right of this page if you are.
If you are able to edit the sandbox, you are not blocked from editing. Either the autoblock on your IP address has already expired, or you weren't blocked in the first place. Either way, you can resume editing.
If you are still blocked, follow the directions below:
Copy the {{unblock-auto|...}} code generated for you under the "Unblock request" section.
The assessment is mistaken; yes of course I logged in as seen in the edit log of this page, but still I am blocked from editing the Sandbox. No, there is no "IP Blocked?" section; does this quote help?
Thanks; that did it. I'm still a bit grumpy at the process; a block notice should be more complete and give links to a log that explains a particular action rather than just a vague discussion of general principles. Admins shouldn't impose a block without having a way to find out which of their address blocking actions are blocking a particular user's editorial attempts. Those, however, are policy issues; at least I'm free now to continue as a Wikignome, gardening my little Wikipatch. Jim.henderson (talk) 12:05, 14 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
You are welcome! :) At least now that you are of status "IP block exempt", this should not happen to you again in the future. -- Cirt (talk) 12:15, 14 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, I've noticed that you've had a lot to do with the articles about sculptures in NYC. We're putting together all of the lists of sculptures & public art that we can find here as part of the our project, Wikipedia Saves Public Art. We'd love to have your involvement in our project. It'd be great if to have an improved list of artworks in NYC, or even a WSPA sub group for the city.
Note in particular that you are not permitted to use this newly-granted right to edit Wikipedia via anonymous proxies, or disruptively. If you do, or there is a serious concern of abuse, then the right may be removed by any administrator.
Appropriate usage and compliance with the policy may be checked periodically, due to the nature of block exemption, and block exemption will be removed when no longer needed (for example, when the block it is related to expires).
I hope this will enhance your editing, and allow you to edit successfully and without disruption.
Thank you for adding coordinates to articles. It's a big job, and we need all the help we can get. Please note, however, that the parameter syntax you are using (display:heading) is incorrect. I think what you want is (display=title). Please review the template documentation at Template:Coord/doc and contact me if you still have questions. Best regards, --Stepheng3 (talk) 19:53, 16 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Seeing we lack light at the time of the meetup, interested in another pre-meet shindig. Maybe we can go out to the Rockaways (I do need some LIRR stations). More than enough time to handle it if you're interested? Hell we can go at 10:30 again and still have enough time. Interested?Mitch32(TransportationHistorian)01:55, 17 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Sure. Any time of morning gives us several hours of daylight. We have no pix of Rockaway Park Yard and I'm dissatisfied with what we have for most stations on that branch. B116th will look best on a sunny early afternoon; I have no such idea for other items on the peninsula. Oof, and I might still be a little sore if my Thursday biker gang ride goes far but no problem. We'll see, I don't want to spend that great much time. Also, let's meet at 9th again (the PATH station).Mitch32(TransportationHistorian)
Sure; Adam. See you tomorrow; same time; same station. Had a nice bike ride yesterday with a small gang to Coney Island. No great photographic opportunities, however, with a faster than usual leader. 38 miles round trip. Jim.henderson (talk) 13:21, 19 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Forgive me, but I seem to be missing where you opened the merger discussion for this article. It is common curtosey to start the discussion when you propose the merge. Frankly, looking at the article you've nominated and the article you want to merge it to, there is no content that would be worth merging Thanks, Hasteur (talk) 20:43, 23 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
A particular highlight for the wiki crowd will be 'Seductive Subversion: Women Pop Artists, 1958–1968', and the accompanying "WikiPop" project, with specially-created Wikipedia articles on the artists displayed on iPads in the gallery.
This will be a museum touring and partying meetup, so no excuses about being a shy newbie this time. Bring a friend too!
Hi, we met at the convention last week. Currently most of the church building article stubs that you've been contributing photos to have the potential to be up for deletion. I had been creating articles of noteworthy churches not on the NHRP. The discussion was primarily based on an abundance of New England church article stubs but seems to be deciding that archtiecture stubs outside of the NHRP are not notable and should deleted in mass, as opposed to those articles on the NHRP. Wondering if you would like to weigh in on the discussion: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/St. Mark Church (Stratford, Connecticut)--James R (talk) 24 January 2011
There has been plenty of activity with this AfD, and it would appear that the New York City churches will be kept. I have made some contributions.--DThomsen8 (talk) 12:51, 27 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Good going. Seeing that you two and others were handling it, especially the nearby places that interest me, I busied myself with other matters. Jim.henderson (talk) 01:52, 29 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, it's pleasant to link a person to the handle, and more pleasant the second time. After a few unhappy experiences, mostly in Google, I have come to mistrust online databases to do this job. All mine are by map study and geotagging camera, including recently my new Samsung M910 camera phone, which is a less versatile or convenient camera but more reliable geotagger of its photos. Neither of these is always right but at least my errors are usually different, thus giving me hope that they are more detectable. Jim.henderson (talk) 01:52, 29 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Of course it is easy with a GPS camera, but you may also have older photos, or other peoples photos for which you may want to obtain coordinates. Checking them with Google Maps or Bing maps is something I regularly do. Also, sometimes I want to add coordinates for a bridge or building a long way from where I am, so this technique can be helpful. --DThomsen8 (talk) 02:00, 29 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Sure; as in the case of , a photo dominated by buildings that were town down before either of us old farts was born. I'm not saying GE and Bing's aerial pictures have many errors (though I've found quite a few in Google Street View). What I'm saying is about the coordinates their lists give for addresses and especially for buildings. Google's coordinates for for example are off by more than half a mile, presumably because they are based on a mail drop for the parish rather than something to do with the NRHP building. This is not at all rare, nor is it rare to find coordinates for a street address that are out in the middle of the street or, less explicably, on the property boundary with another building.
Also practically all my coordinates in uploads are written manually into EXIF by Microsoft Pro Photos or by GE working through Picasa. That goes even for the ones that the camera coded, because those are usually off by more than five yards and sometimes a couple hundred. Position checking is one of the things that slow my uploads. The new camera phone eases the job by coding the great majority of its pictures rather than a small minority in the big city, and by doing those five or sometimes times more accurately. Hmm, maybe I ought to put together an illustrated tutorial on this topic. Even present it as a "lightning talk" perhaps. Jim.henderson (talk) 21:10, 29 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I don't know if you ever get out to Queens, but someone is asking for a photo thataways. Request is here. I know the building he's speaking of, I see it from the BQE on the way to LaGuardia, but I'm almost never in Queens. Beyond My Ken (talk) 03:42, 5 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Van Siclen in a few minutes, though by this time the Sun was getting low. Also got some Livonia BMT shots there, but don't know if any articles want them. A few other Livonia IRT pix are to follow tomorrow if they came out. Jim.henderson (talk) 02:26, 20 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Add them anyway, along with the ones you've already added. Frankly, I see no point in having categories with only one image, and there are far too many of those in the commons. ----DanTD (talk) 04:28, 20 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I know its short notice, but you up for doing stuff tomorrow before the meet? I have to pick Fluffernutter/Chaoticfluffy at Grand Central at 1:20, before then would you like to do some photography?Mitch32(Erie RailroadInformation Hog)02:51, 20 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I tried to call your cell number this evening from Fanwood Station, your cell was off. Let's meet at World Trade Center PATH station at (10:10) and we'll decide from there what to do.Mitch32(Erie RailroadInformation Hog)03:31, 20 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
