Women in Development - Peer Review

Microcredit

  • Since we learned about the various debates on microcredit in GPP 115, you even make subsections regarding the observed benefits and controversies about it (e.g. section called "Criticism of Microcredit")

- Possibly use the sources from GPP 115 to help you

  • Add a list of common microcredit institutions to inform readers more about the variety of work different organizations are doing with microcredit
  • It may also be beneficial to add the distinction between microfinance and microcredit since they're often used interchangeably
  • Add a section about what the World Bank does, especially considering that it is a prominent institution but many people don't know that it mainly deals with microfinance


Activities

  • Under activities, were you planning on writing how women in development utilize their microcredit or what various NGOs may be doing to help women in development?
  • It may be helpful to narrow down the topic of this section since "Activities" can refer to many different aspects of women in development


General Comments

  • Awesome that you're adding the "Microcredit" section to the article
  • Were you planning on including anything about educating girls in developing communities?

Ongoing Projects

  • Possibly add if the goals you listed are being achieved
  • What are the efforts being made to achieve these goals?
  • Maybe list the goals and go into more detail about the 4th and 5th goals that you briefly mentioned

U.S Involvement

  • There seems to be some overlap between "U.S Involvement" & "Ongoing Projects." For instance, the Protecting Girls Access to Education Act seems to be more of a continuing, international program that would fit more under "Ongoing Projects,"
  • I think it's important to also put information as to what this U.S bill entails
  • Would be beneficial to add more quantitative data (e.g.funding from the U.S, how many girls in the world do not receive an education)
  • Mention cultural differences as one of the reasons as to why some girls don't receive an education or work (e.g. religion, community values)

General Comments

  • Great topics you're covering
  • Add more about the various organizations and strategies that seek to empower women
