Formatting - quotations versus episode names

[edit]

Hello... I've noticed that you have been reformatting various articles to move punctuation within quotation marks. When dealing with names of episodes, song titles, and so on, it is actually incorrect to format that way. The special formatting - italics, quotes, etc. applies only to the name/title/etc. and not to any associated punctuation or other elements. For example, if you were writing about something for the Battlestar Galactica article, you would use "Galactica's crew..." - not "Galactica's crew..." Similarly, when writing the title of an episode of a show, the quotes surround only the name, not any adjacent punctuation. (i.e. ...first episode is "Genesis". *NOT* ...first episode is "Genesis.") Please feel free to ask if you have any questions about this. Thanks. --Ckatzchatspy 06:04, 23 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Formatting - Quotations, again

[edit]

Two months ago, Ckatzchatspy informed you about Wikipedia's policy of placing punctuation outside of quotation marks, yet you have repeatedly ignored it. Please conform to Wikipedia's policies so other editors don't have to fix your errors. Thank you. Ward3001 21:28, 24 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

See WP:MS#Punctuation. Wikipedia policy is that, unless the punctuation is part of the quotation, it goes outside the quotation marks. Ward3001 02:31, 25 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

That WAS the 'Red Robin' Costume, but that's the only place it's being seen. It's meant to be symbolic of Jason Todd, the Red Hood, who used to be Robin. Please refrain in future from askign your questions in the articles. SaliereTheFish 16:00, 3 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Your request to be unblocked has been granted for the following reason(s):

Looks like your IP address was used as an open proxy back in 2006 but I scanned it and this does not seem to be the case now. You should be good to go. --Yamla 14:59, 20 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Request handled by: Yamla 14:59, 20 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have just a bit of research and it seems this was like an automatic block set up by Guanaco and in his User Talk section it states quite clearly that "This user may have left Wikipedia. Guanaco has not edited Wikipedia using this account since November 19, 2006. As a result, any requests made here may not receive a response. If you are seeking the assistance of this user on this page, you may need to approach someone else." This being the case please unblock me and you may wish to take off this autoblock from a none user in nearly a year. Thanks! JCSR

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Great Darkness Saga, and it appears to include a substantial copy of http://everything2.com/index.pl?node_id=1040479. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material; such additions will be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences.

This message was placed automatically, and it is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article and it would be appreciated if you could drop a note on the maintainer's talk page. Speedy deletion of Great Darkness Saga

[edit]

A tag has been placed on Great Darkness Saga requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words.

If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must include on the external site the statement "I, (name), am the author of this article, (article name), and I release its content under the terms of the GNU Free Documentation License, Version 1.2 and later." You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Hi, your recent edit on the Brevard County article on adding a redlink for Avon by the Sea suggested interest in perhaps creating an article for that unincorporated area. If you are interested, please let me know. Thanks. - Jameson L. Tai talkguestbookcontribs 02:55, 16 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Actually I have been researching to create an Avon by the Sea article as that is where I live. And since there is articles on Sharpes, Mims and other unincorporated areas of Brevard County I felt that Avon-by-the-Sea needed it also especially since I specifically searched for Avon by the Sea and found nothing on it when I was looking to find out population of the area. True it is rather small ~ but if someone were to be doing research on it there needs to be some data available and there is nothing worthwhile online.

Thanks,

JCSR (talk) 15:53, 16 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'll be happy to work on the article with you. I've started a sandbox article for us to collaborate until we're ready to deploy the article into the mainspace. I look forward to working with you. - Jameson L. Tai talkguestbookcontribs 21:09, 16 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I do have one question though, since I'm in Melbourne, I'm not sure if starting an article on Avon-by-the-Sea would be appropriate, especially since it is part of Cape Canaveral (http://www.myflorida.com/cape/visitors.html). Am I mistaken about this? Please let me know. Thanks. - Jameson L. Tai talkguestbookcontribs 21:14, 16 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Also, US Census Bureau has not recognized Avon-by-the-Sea as a census area, which they do cover Avon-by-the-Sea in Cape Canaveral's census data (http://factfinder.census.gov/servlet/SAFFFacts?_event=Search&geo_id=01000US&_geoContext=&_street=&_county=cape+canaveral&_cityTown=cape+canaveral&_state=04000US12&_zip=&_lang=en&_sse=on&ActiveGeoDiv=geoSelect&_useEV=&pctxt=fph&pgsl=010&_submenuId=factsheet_1&ds_name=ACS_2006_SAFF&_ci_nbr=null&qr_name=null&reg=null%3Anull&_keyword=&_industry=&show_2003_tab=&redirect=Y). - Jameson L. Tai talkguestbookcontribs 21:20, 16 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
That's weird though ~ when I worked for the census last decade I covered Avon-by-the-Sea and it was listed as being separate from both Cocoa Beach and Cape Canaveral, plus unless it is an extreme emergency Avon-by-the-Sea has to get emergency services from Merritt Island (with the exception of the Sheriff Department of of course). But ambulance services and fire and rescue generally come from Brevard County and the closest Brevard County Services are in Merritt Island. Often we have to wait 15-20 minutes for emergency services even though the Cape Canaveral Volunteer Fire Department is less than 5 minutes away, because we generally have to wait for a response from Brevard County Emergency Services in Merritt Island. Plus Cape Canaveral & Cocoa Beach have both tried to annex us for decades.

Italics

[edit]

Hi, thanks for your edits to the Lost episode article; unfortunately, they will all eventually be reverted, as your formatting is not covered by/probably goes against Wikipedia:Manual of Style (text formatting). –thedemonhog talkedits 01:37, 7 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Previous Presidents
Actually I was simply following previous presidents for Lost flashbacks ~ as I noticed on the first few episodes when I was looking for the flashbacks alone. They were italicized and then several later on the italics were missing ~ I simply worked to make it consistent.

Notice

The article Monica Dawson has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

The coverage (references, external links, etc.) does not seem sufficient to justify this article passing Wikipedia:General notability guideline requirement nor the more detailed Wikipedia:Notability (fiction) supplementary essay. WP:BEFORE did not reveal any significant coverage on Gnews, Gbooks or Gscholar. If you disagree and deprod this, please explain how it meets them on the talk page here in the form of "This article meets criteria A and B because..." and ping me back through WP:ECHO or by leaving a note at User talk:Piotrus. Thank you.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
