The Wikipedia tutorial is a good place to start learning about Wikipedia. If you have any questions, see the help pages, add a question to the village pump or ask me on my talk page. By the way, you can sign your name on Talk and discussion pages using four tildes, like this: ~~~~ (the software will replace them with your signature and the date). Again, welcome!

Hello Jaime Marso,

It seems to me that an article you worked on, California Seismic Safety Commission, may be copied from http://earthguide.ucsd.edu/eoc/parents/p_practical/p_practical.html. It's entirely possible that I made a mistake, but I wanted to let you know because Wikipedia is strict about copying from other sites.

It's important that you edit the article and rewrite it in your own words, unless you're absolutely certain nothing in it is copied. If you're not sure how to fix the problem or have any questions, there are people at the help desk who are happy to assist you.

Thank you for helping build a free encyclopedia! MadmanBot (talk) 10:57, 1 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion nomination of California Seismic Safety Commission

[edit]

Hello Jaime Marso,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged California Seismic Safety Commission for deletion, because it seems to be copied from another source.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to rewrite it in your own words, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Thanks, FrankDev (talk) 11:13, 1 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry about your welcome to Wikipedia

[edit]

Can't be great, given that your first contribution has been deleted. However, while it may seem odd that the deletion was a copyright issue, involving words that you wrote. However, while I don't doubt you, we can't "officially" accept that you are the same person as the one who authored the material. This is because we allow anyone to sign up for any name (with rare exceptions). A second issue is that sometimes people are truly the author of the words they want to use in Wikipedia, but missed that they created them as a work for hire, and the copyright is held by another individual, or often, and organization. I don't know whether that applies in this case, but because of the possibility, we try to take care and not use any non-trivial excerpts of material subject to copyright unless explicit permission has been given. I see that Frank gave you the link tot he process, but I'll repeat it here: Donating copyrighted materials Best wishes for the new year. --SPhilbrick(Talk) 14:44, 1 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on File:The California Seismic Safety Commission's webpage.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F9 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted images or text borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. I'm sorry to have to tag this but as the website clearly carries copyright State of California, even if you are the webmaster for the commission I'm not sure you have the authority to release the screenshot into the public domain. You've already be given the link on how to donate copyrighted materials so I won't insult your intelligence by linking it again. If the copyright release way isn't the way to go then once you've got a page for the Commission established then you may be able upload this image under the non-free content criteria.
