Blocked

[edit]
There have been two problems with this account: the account has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia, and your username indicates that the account represents a business or other organisation or group or a web site, which is also against policy, as an account must be for just one person. Because of those problems, the account has been blocked indefinitely from editing.

If you intend to make useful contributions about some topic other than your business or organisation, you may request an unblock. To do so, post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:CentralAuth to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy. Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In that reason, you must:

  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
If you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal this block by adding the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page, but you should read the guide to appealing blocks first. Ian.thomson (talk) 07:15, 26 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

Hi Ian. I would like to kindly request for my profile JDNAScreative to be unblocked. I do not believe my profile name is an issue, as this is the preferred now I would like to have for my account, as I do for other online sites. It is the same name as my business, so I do understand if this is a problem. But I have used the username JDNAS since I was a child (initials of my name - personal decision). If it is still an issue, I am happy to change the username to my actual name: JacobNassif. I have started working on a page for Darren Palmer, a television personality. This has nothing to do with my business JDNAS creative. All the content was created by me, and I am not getting paid for it (or endorsed in anyway). It is simply out of my free will. I do understand that the page originally read like a promotion and advertisement in some areas, and am very happy to continue reviewing it to make it completely objective and factual. As this is the first page I have ever worked at creating, I am still learning the language and rules of Wikipedia. I will take much more care moving forward, and will review it to ensure it completely coincides with Wikipedia's guidelines. I again apologise for doing Wikipedia wrong, and am really looking forward to getting back my profile and working at completing the Darren Palmer page. I am also looking forward to continue working with Wikipedia for future projects. Thank you.

Decline reason:

Your username choice seems acceptable. Regarding your edits, it is clear that you work in marketing and that Darren Palmer is one of your clients. You will need to read and comply with WP:COI and WP:PAID. Until you do that and are more forthcoming with your relationship, unblocking you will not be possible. I am declining your request. 331dot (talk) 02:18, 1 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

If you make another request, please follow the instructions in the block notice to choose a new username, so the request is properly formatted. Thank you. 331dot (talk) 02:23, 1 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

I have now read the Wikipedia: Conflict of Interest, and am aware that because I know Darren Palmer (a client), I need to make this known while I edit the page. Darren Palmer is a client of mine. I asked him If I could create a profile for him on Wikipedia. He is a public personality in Australia. I do work in marketing too, but this particular project, I am not getting any financial gain from it. It was out of my own free will. I do understand that by working in marketing, my language sounds promotional and more like an advertisement. Having read over that I do see it. The resource referencing used on the page are what I found to get the information required. There is also no subjective intent in the referencing. I do understand that I need to make the language completely factual and with no promotional intent, and mutual sided. I will follow the conflict of interest rules that I have read moving forward when editing. To be honest, this is not a paid-contribution disclosure, but out of my own will. I thought it would be fitting for him to be on it because he is a public figure in media, and it is a great way to learn how to use Wikipedia. I was initially a secondary school teacher in Italian and English, so I love to write. I am sorry for being lazy in not meeting with the guidelines, and will be very careful moving forward. If this request is also not acceptable, please let me know how I can resolve the issue further. Thank you for your time. Jacob.

Decline reason:

Procedural decline only. This unblock request has been open for more than two weeks but has not proven sufficiently convincing for any reviewing administrator to take action. You are welcome to request a new block review if you substantially reword your request. -- Scott (talk) 04:50, 27 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • That's not what I meant, I meant that your new choice of "JacobNassif" is acceptable. You cannot continue to use your current name. If you don't wish to use your real name, you can choose something else that indicates an individual is using this account. 331dot (talk) 09:49, 1 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Someone else will review your request, but we have no way of knowing when you are "on the clock" at work for your client or "off the clock" working on a non-work related project for your client. You still need to comply with WP:COI and WP:PAID. 331dot (talk) 09:51, 1 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

JacobNassif (talk) 23:16, 6 December 2018 (UTC)Hi Wikipedia team. Hope all is well. My name is now changed to JacobNassif and I am happy to have this. I do understand I will need to follow the rules, WP:COI and WP:PAID moving forward for the Darren Palmer profile. If my profile will not be blocked, is it best for Darren Palmer himself to complete the Wikipedia page? If this is something you strongly wish not for me to continue with, I am happy to work on an alternative solution: I have spoken to Darren Palmer about this issue, and he said he is happy to continue working on the page if it is easier for both parties. Thank you. Jacob.JacobNassif (talk) 23:16, 6 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Darren Palmer would need to conform to the policy on autobiographical edits(which can be read at WP:AUTO) which isn't that much different than the conflict of interest policy that applies to you. They shouldn't edit the article about themselves directly. Wikipedia has little interest in what an article subject wants to say about themselves, only in what independent reliable sources state about them. It is extremely difficult for an article subject to forget everything they know about themselves and only write based on the content of independent sources. It is possible, but 95% of people can't really do it. People naturally write favorably about themselves. 331dot (talk) 23:32, 6 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

JacobNassif (talk) 05:16, 10 December 2018 (UTC)I understand that it would be better for someone else to create Darren Palmer's profile. I am completely happy to follow the guidelines and are aware that I will be required to implement WP:COI and WP:PAID moving forward. In saying that, I am worried that my profile will not be unblocked, and fear that my plea to be unblocked will not end in my favour. In this case, what should I do with the page that has been created? I could ask someone else to complete the Darren Palmer page: that is not a friend, not affiliated with Darren Palmer, and doesn't work for him, but am worried also that Wikipedia will not have faith in this alternative option. If my profile remains blocked for good, could I use the Darren Palmer page I have created and get someone else who is completely not affiliated with Darren Palmer to complete it? It would be someone who is willing to do it out of their own free will, and no other intention. Otherwise, if you could let me know what else I need to do to rectify this issue? Thank you for your time and I am sorry if this is taking too much of your time. Cheers, Jacob.JacobNassif (talk) 05:16, 10 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

Hi Wikipedia team. I, JacobNassif, would like to request to unblock my user account. I understand that I did not follow Wikipedia's protocol in my attempt to create a Wikipedia page for Darren Palmer. Darren is a client of mine, and I attempted to create a profile page on him, without acknowledging he is a client. On top of that, I understand why the language I used to compose the content was deemed promotional. I didn't follow the procedures correctly, in complying with WP:COI and WP:PAID. I have no excuse, except for being very lazy in not reading all the terms and conditions prior to submitting my work, or even commencing the work on the page. I wish to be diligent in getting it right in the future, to ensure that I work to follow Wikipedia's protocols properly and correctly moving forward. I would love to be able to make it work this time around. I am genuinely sorry, and understand the severity in this situation, and why I should be punished for not doing it right in the first place. I hope you can forgive me and would love for you to give me another chance. Kind Regards, Jacob. JacobNassif (talk) 23:33, 18 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

Hi Wikipedia team. It has been almost five months since my (JacobNassif's) last request to unblock my account. This was after my attempt to create a Wikipedia profile for Darren Palmer. I would like to apologise because I used advertising and promotional language for Darren's initial submission. I am held responsible for the inappropriate language used to portray Darren on Wikipedia, and that it was deemed subjective rather than objective. I work to manage Darren Palmer's digital media: website and social media. I offered to create for Darren a Wikipedia profile, and had no intention of going against the language protocol instilled through Wikipedia. That is my wrong doing. I am now very aware of this and will happily edit my submission to make it factual and objective. I depend highly on Wikipedia for my own knowledge of things, and would love to contribute. Again, I apologise for my approach and take full responsibility for my actions. Thank you, Jacob.JacobNassif (talk) 00:32, 2 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Decline reason:

This unblock request - along with your previous communications on this page - seems to indicate that you have no purpose on Wikipedia beyond writing about/getting someone else to write about Darren Palmer to increase his digital presence. If you have no other interest in editing, stop wasting our time and yours and find another website which will allow you to do this. Wikipedia will not. Yunshui  07:59, 2 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Please give an indication of what you would do on Wikipedia if unblocked. Huon (talk) 02:15, 2 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I would add that if you are only here to edit about Darren Palmer, you aren't going to be unblocked. Wikipedia does not have "profiles" like social media, Wikipedia has articles. Wikipedia has no interest in Darren Palmer's internet presence or what he/his representatives want to say about him. You will need to agree to not edit about him or other clients in order to be unblocked; if you don't wish to do that, there's nothing more to be done here. 331dot (talk) 07:41, 2 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

Hi Wikipedia team. I am fully aware of what Wikipedia creates: objective articles, and that users that want to contribute, do so without any intent in promoting a person, place, business or brand. Wikipedia is, and always has been, a free and reliable online encyclopedia, with content in the form of articles and not promotional profiles. I am fully aware of this, apologise if I jeopardised its intent, and will no longer use Wikipedia to edit anything related to my clients or for any promotional use. I am happy to agree not to edit anything related to Darren Palmer's profile moving forward, and wish to unblock my profile, so I can in future, have some input in any other content that may be of knowledge and interest to me, not work related, that I believe I can contribute. Apologies for dragging out this request to unblock my account for so long, and I hope that we can finally come to a mutual understanding. Thank you, Jacob NassifJacobNassif (talk) 23:59, 16 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Accept reason:

Please do keep to your word - and that means not violating our COI and other policies and guidelines on any article, not just Darren Palmer. I hope you enjoy editing and creating articles on your personal interests and I look forward to seeing positive contributions from you.
