Goalkeeper (water polo)

[edit]

Hi. Sorry for not responding earlier. I was away. In regards to Goalkeeper (water polo), which A-Class assessment process were you going to go through? I'd need to see the criteria before evaluating for the specific project. As far as I know, there are no A-Class assessments open to swimming and sport in general. --LauraHale (talk) 18:59, 31 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

GA reviews

[edit]

Hi JZCL,

Sorry to bother you, as I appreciate that you may be busy. I noticed via an article that you do GA reviews, and was wondering if I may ask a few questions about the GA process, when you have time to spare of course. Much regards, WesleyMouse 20:51, 4 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

No problem at all - state the question and I'll do my best to answer it. If you want advice on reviewing GAs, look at WP:Reviewing good articles but please feel free to ask a question. JZCL 16:11, 5 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for responding back to me. The question may be a bit of a strange one, but nevertheless I shall try and word it the best I can. I recently nominated Eurovision Song Contest 2012 for a GA review, which is still in progress, albeit taking weeks. But we've hit a bit of a stumbling block in regards to some content on the article itself. As the article is in regards to a contest, it also includes results etc. The overall results for the contest are determined by a 50/50 split of jury and televoting - which is mentioned in the article. Since 2009, the annual articles have included the combined results (as presented during the contest itself), and a split breakdown of individual jury and televote results (which also get published by the official website) to show how the combination was achieved. The GA reviewer has stated that the split breakdown results shouldn't be included, and could fail the GA. Yet, the consensus of members regarding these tables is hat they are vital to the article and explain how a result was achieved. So I was wondering if you'd be able to cast a second opinion, and then perhaps there would be something to put forward to the members of the Eurovision project to determine which direction would be the best way forward. Kindest regards in advance, WesleyMouse 17:39, 5 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Questions about Wikipedia & SuggestBot

[edit]

Hi, we’ve been running a research experiment with SuggestBot and although I noticed you no longer request suggestions from the bot I was wondering if we could ask you some questions about Wikipedia and SuggestBot? You can find more information and the questions on this page. It should take less than ten minutes to respond. We would greatly appreciate if you had the time to participate! Regards, Nettrom (talk) 18:03, 23 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi again, and thanks again for taking the time to give us very helpful answers! I posted a follow-up question on your feedback page as there was one thing I didn't understand. Cheers, Nettrom (talk) 16:33, 24 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

A barnstar for you!

Eagle eye

Iz watching every move you make. You better watch the floor of the next elevator you get into....

Hi. I've declined your speedy request as books are not deletable under A7. That is for people based things such as rappers, underwater knitting circles and rock groups still looking for a bass player. It also covers named animals such as Wilma the Wildebeest, and for some unaccountable reason, webcontent such as films on YouTube, blogs, websites (but not things you download and use at home), and encyclopaedias (but not this one...). I've prodded it, as it looks to me to be self-published. Well, if the top ghit is a LinkedIn profile 'created by LinkedIn', and totally devoid of any information whatever, what else is one to think? You're welcome to either prove me wrong, or to add a prod2. Or to ignore the whole thing, if you prefer... Peridon (talk) 23:58, 10 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Fine, yes I was in a bit of a bad mood at the time and probably giving away CSDs out too easily - thanks for the catch... but then again it will probably be deleted anyway. JZCL 18:23, 11 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Jainism

[edit]

Hello. I have made considerable changes to the article on Jainism. Thanks for the review. If possible, please advice me how to further improve the article. I have listed that article for GAN. Do you think it meets the criteria? Rahuljain2307 (talk) 15:31, 13 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Wow - well done for that major copyedit - this is a great improvement. Well done.
Alas there may still be a few things:

Lead section

[edit]
  • Citations aren't needed in lede.

The three Jewels

[edit]
  • There shouldn't be a space between are and :.
  • Briefly explain the three.

Anēkāntavāda

[edit]
  • Consequently, no single, specific, human view can claim to represent absolute truth. Remember, we are not writing this from a Jain's point of view, we are writing it from a Neutral Point of View. Reword for NPOV and add a citation.

Soul and Karma

[edit]
  • CN for Hence, the scriptures advise carefulness in actions, awareness of the world, and purity in thoughts as means to avoid the burden of karma.

Demographics

[edit]
  • Unfortunately (at the moment) the downfall of the article. No citations whatsoever!! Citations need to be added here, or else there is no chance.

Denominations

[edit]
  • Avoid one-sentence paragraphs.
  • CN for last paragraph.
  • Add a caption for the image is probably best.

Festivals

[edit]
  • Citation needed for last bullet point.

Comparative studies

[edit]
  • Is ref 157 for the quote? If it is, add page number and move it to after the colon; if not, find the quoter fast!

Notes

[edit]

Sorry some of it is so picky, but you'll need it if you decide for another FA!

  • Ref 20 has a very broad page range - maybe narrow it down a bit.
  • Ref 31 has a full stop after it - take it out for consistency.
  • Ref 62 needs pp instead of p.
  • Ref 64 needs page number.
  • Ref 66 should be consistent with other referencing style, therefore make it 400-407.
  • Refs 94 and 95 should be combined as they overlap each other.
  • Ref 96 needs a page number.
  • Ref 97 needs a page number.
  • Ref 98 needs a page number.
  • Ref 99 needs a page number.
  • Ref 101 needs a page number.
  • Ref 102 needs a page number.
  • Ref 108 needs a page number.
  • Ref 109 needs a page number.
  • Refs 113 and 114 should be combined.
  • Refs 115 and 116 should be combined.
  • Ref 117 needs a page number.
  • Ref 124 needs correct formatting for cite web template e.g. work etc.
  • Ref 128 needs a page number.
  • Ref 129's first letter needs to be capitalised.
  • Ref 130 needs a page number.
  • Ref 131 needs a page number.
  • Ref 144 needs a page number.
  • Ref 146 needs spaces between page numbers.
  • Ref 148 needs spaces between page numbers.
  • Ref 152 needs a page number.
  • Ref 157 needs a page number.

References & Further reading

[edit]
  • Just one comment for it all really - make sure all books' ISBN numbers are present.

I hope that's enough to keep you going, Rahul! Please, feel free to tick Done or Cross out anything that's above, so you can see everything you still need to do. There may be other things, and if you get this all done I'll try and find some more. JZCL 17:44, 13 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, thanks a lot for the reply. I have removed citations from lead section, however, I have left a small number of citations in the lead as those claims are very likely to be challenged. I removed that unreferenced point in 'Festivals' section as it was not that relevant. I don't think I can find ISBN numbers for all the books. Some of the referenced books do not have one. Rest of the changes are almost exactly as you advised. Rahuljain2307 (talk) 14:23, 14 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Here's a committed editor if ever I saw one! Well done again Rahul. There might have just been one thing you missed - ref 23 has a very broad page range and it might be good if it could be reduced to a maximum of about 10. As for the references and further reading, I think some of the books may be able to take ISBNs (for example, I found Macmillan Encyclopedia of Death and Dying has ISBN 002865689X). If there are any you think have ISBNs, it's definitely best to include them. But don't get me wrong, I can't believe you did it all in a day! Well done for your valuable contributions to the article. If I were doing the GA review, when you'd sorted out those two things, I would pass it. JZCL 20:55, 14 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
The GA nomination list has a serious backlog. It would take 3-4 months before the article gets reviewed. If possible, please review it for GA. I will have to wait for some time before I can nominate it for FA again due to the 2-week rule. Still, thanks a lot for the guidance. Rahuljain2307 (talk) 19:32, 15 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hand-coding

[edit]

Hey all :).

I'm dropping you a note because you've been involved in dealing with feedback from the Article Feedback Tool. To get a better handle on the overall quality of comments now that the tool has become a more established part of the reader experience, we're undertaking a round of hand coding - basically, taking a sample of feedback and marking each piece as inappropriate, helpful, so on - and would like anyone interested in improving the tool to participate :).

You can code as many or as few pieces of feedback as you want: this page should explain how to use the system, and there is a demo here. Once you're comfortable with the task, just drop me an email at okeyes@wikimedia.org and I'll set you up with an account :).

If you'd like to chat with us about the research, or want live tutoring on the software, there will be an office hours session on Monday 17 December at 23:00 UTC in #wikimedia-office connect. Hope to see some of you there! Thanks, Okeyes (WMF) (talk) 23:27, 14 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry I've taken so long to get back. Right, sorry I missed the fact that you created this blog page. But that's not to say it belongs on Wikipedia. Firstly: did you come up with the idea or had it already been invented? Please read WP:OR to understand why you cannot just publish blogs or other unverified research. If it is already an existing topic (which it looks like it isn't unless it has an alternate name) then you need to cite your sources like this.[1]

Changes to SuggestBot's suggestions

[edit]

We have changed the number of suggested articles and which categories they are selected from. The number of stubs has been greatly reduced, the number of articles needing sources doubled, and two new categories added (orphans and unencyclopaedic articles). We have also modified the layout of the suggestions and added sortable columns with various types of information about each article. The first two columns are:

Views/Day
Daily average number of views an article's had over the past 14 days.
Quality
Predicted article quality on a 1- to 3-star scale. Placing your cursor over the stars should give you a pop-up describing the article's quality (Low/Medium/High), current assessment class, and predicted assessment class.

The method we use to predict article quality also allows us to assess whether an article might need specific types of work in order to improve its quality. The work needed might not correspond to cleanup tags added to the article, since our method is not based on those. We have added five columns reflecting this work assessment, where a red X indicates improvement is needed. Placing your cursor over an X should give you a pop-up with a short description of the work needed. The five columns seek to answer the following five questions:

Content
Is more content needed?
Headings
Does this article have an appropriate section structure?
Images
Is the number of illustrative images about right?
Links
Does this article link to enough other Wikipedia articles?
Sources
For its length, is there an appropriate number of citations to sources in this article?

SuggestBot picks articles in a number of ways based on other articles you've edited, including straight text similarity, following wikilinks, and matching your editing patterns against those of other Wikipedians. It tries to recommend only articles that other Wikipedians have marked as needing work. We appreciate that you have signed up to receive suggestions regularly, your contributions make Wikipedia better — thanks for helping!

Hi from Evenssteven

[edit]

I'm the brand-newest participant in the Christianity project. I saw your post on the peer review page regarding your article "Humiliation of Christ". I'm not quite sure what kind of feedback you're looking for, or how the page is supposed to fit into the grander scheme of things, and that's why I don't know quite how to respond. But I'm hoping you'll take this as an observation rather than a criticism: that the article as a whole, even the title, just looks very Protestant to me. I'm not talking POV exactly. It's just that an Orthodox view wouldn't put the content into the same words. That word "humiliation" is the key, and it has so many and different implications than the word the Orthodox would use: "humility". The Orthodox orientation is that Christ submitted Himself willingly in all those things: incarnation, crucifiction, descent to Hades, resurrection, and was indeed in complete control of all that happened (that is, able to act, as God), but in all, submitted Himself to the Father's will. "Humiliation" seems to me to imply that mankind was able to "do domething to Him", like crucify Him, without His consent. In other words, He was humble, and He was humbled, but He was not humiliated. So, I don't know how to suggest dealing with that in the article, or even if that understanding might violate the theology you hold (and therefore be virtually impossible to deal with). But I thought you might appreciate knowing that a significant difference of perspective exists out there, and perhaps you've never even heard of it before. Wishing you well. Welcome to Wikipedia, Steven, and thanks for showing concern to my article. You raise a valid point, which was discussed on the talk page. Indeed to begin with it was called humility of Christ, but I was advised to rename it because in mostsecond. However, you may not have noticed that there is a section which deals with the specific topic, explaining how the idea was promoted by Saint Francis of Assisi to portray a "softer image of Jesus". A similar discussion actually came up on the talk page, where it was explained that the article shows that the idea draws from Protestant Theology. If you would like to, feel free to edit the article in a neutral way. Thanks again. JZCL 12:18, 29 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, JZCL. Not sure what the end of your third sentence was - something got lost - but I think that advice you took was sure to raise some flags. So I did want to see if you had hard and fast reasons why you chose the wording you did. But I do have to agree with Engelhardt that not all Protestants use that language. St Francis may have promoted use of humility, but that word's use predated him by many centuries. But I'll restart by taking the issue to the talk page. It'll take more than just my input for the community to reach consensus, but if I had my way I'd need to see the word "humiliation" changed, even in the title. Thanks again. Evenssteven (talk) 14:36, 29 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Fyi, the issue is now on the talk page. I see that it was likely that it was user StAnselm who was giving the advice about the title. He is something of an expert, but only in reformed theology, and that's not all there is. So I understand if you had any hesitancy about the title, but in the larger view of things, I think you were entirely right that the larger community of theologians and lay people refer to "Humility of Christ" when considering the content of the article. "Humiliation" as a technical term, as far as I know, is restricted mostly to reformed Calvinism. Evenssteven (talk) 20:53, 29 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
