Multiple user accounts

Hi, if you are the same Jack B Downs as User:jackbdowns, please be aware that using multiple accounts runs the risk of being accused of sockpuppetry. However multiple accounts are acceptable in some circumstances. Can I suggest that on each of your user pages you list all your user accounts, and take care not to use more than one account to edit each subject area. I am Jackbdowns. As far as I know I am the only one. If I am showing up twice, it is due to my own ignorance, and the fact that the system allowed me to set up two accounts under the same name. It never occurred to me that that was a possibility. I have no clue how to reduce my accounts to one, and no clue which one(s) I should eliminate. That's OK. Some users do have multiple accounts, so no need to worry. The main thing is to be open about it, so I have taken the liberty of posting the fact on both of your user home pages.

It is best if you can decide which is your main account and stick to it for everyday editing; the worst thing you can do is inadvertently change accounts in the middle of an argument or edit war. Just use the spare account when needed, typically for one of the reasons described here.

By the way, in a conversation it is customary to indent your comments by beginning your paragraph with one more colon than the previous comment. This helps us keep track of complex conversations.

I would also warn that Wikipedia can be a pretty, er... robust place at times. Don't let others drag you into their bad behaviour. (I did once and got myself banned for a while!). Until you gain experience, it is best - as in real life - to back out smartly and go somewhere else for a while. There is a great supportive community out there but it takes a little knowledge to find.
