Very nice start to the article. Thank you. Sdr 22:43, 31 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sean Bell

[edit]

This may have been a mistake, but the section you added to Sean Bell was a direct quote from the cited Fox News article. Please be more careful in the future - a direct quotation without quotation marks is both plagiarism and a copyright violation. I have rewritten the section (as well as moving it to the background section, since it didn't really belong in the section on the incident). Natalie 17:49, 4 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for spotting that - I'd merely re-added the text from a previous revision and didn't think to check for copy-vio. --J2thawiki 17:52, 4 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I suspected as much. I'll put a note on the original contributer of it. Thanks! Natalie 17:56, 4 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Messages in articles

[edit]

Please do not add commentary or your own personal analysis to Wikipedia articles. Doing so violates Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy and breaches the formal tone expected in an encyclopedia. If you would like to experiment, use the sandbox. Thank you. , note this refers to your inclusion of a blog site in the Tucker Max article, as blogs are not considered valid sources, nor are they considered acceptable external links. Please review the wikipedia policy at WP:EL and WP:RS. Continued inclusion of the paragraph and the blog is likely to be considered vandalism, as you have reverted to include it multiple times despite consensus from other editors against it. SWATJester On Belay! 10:39, 24 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I wasn't aware of the WP:EL policy against blogs but am now, thanks. What paragraph did I include which I shouldn't? I wasn't aware I had added any commentary or personal analysis?--J2thawiki 12:24, 24 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I cannot figure out what changes you made to theChildren of Men article. Can you clarify?Arcayne 22:56, 4 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

If you look at the Diff you'll see I fixed the broken ref tag as it was stopping the rest of the page from displaying --J2thawiki 10:53, 5 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. The issue of listing commercial products falls under Wiki's spam policy which I just reread. These listings clearly fall under that umbrella - which I learned when I tried to add a commercial company which was promptly removed by another moderator. Good point - I've removed the commercial products. --J2thawiki 18:48, 20 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The Scholar Ship

[edit]

Mike Bonner, the CEO of The Scholar Ship, is aware of the entry on The Scholar Ship and has been contacted directly by me by e-mail requesting copyright approval/permission for the information posted on the entry. This will be sent into Wikipedia as soon as it is returned to me.

This entry is in a similar framework to other international education (study abroad) programs/entries already listed on Wikipedia such as: http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Wake_Forest_Study_Abroad_Programs http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/University_of_California_Education_Abroad_Program http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Semester_at_Sea http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/St._John%27s_University_%28Italy%29 http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Youth_For_Understanding http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Congress-Bundestag_Youth_Exchange http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/AFS_Intercultural_Programs

That's good. You still need to follow the procedure at Wikipedia:Requesting_copyright_permission though so people know that permission has been requested/granted. I still feel the article reads a bit like an advert though - for example "Onboard, students are immersed in a multicultural living environment" is clearly just promotional blurb as the boat hasn't even sailed yet so who knows what students will be immersed in! --J2thawiki 08:50, 26 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I notice you removed a number of redlinks from List of Irish people, which certainly helps to clean that page up. However, I'm just wondering if this is the best policy? Many of the links you removed were not names I recognised, but some of them were, and just may not have wikis as yet. I'm just wondering if there's a "correct" stance on this? Is it just to remove redlinks from lists or to try and create wikis for them? If the former, there are still plenty of redlinks left on that page, if the latter, now no-one knows who these people are as they've been deleted? Just wondering what you think? --The.Q | Talk to me 12:08, 29 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You make good points, however I think most of the links removed were non-notables who had articles deleted or were added as promotional attempts to 'create' famous irish people.
The "list of Irish people" concept has potential to be very large so limiting it to people who have articles seems the easiest way of keeping it a sensible size. If there are notable people removed from the list then hopefully in the future they will have articles created and can be added to the list.
Ideally, you would add back in people you feel are notable and create stubs for them. I don't know of any policy on redlinks in lists but could be wrong... There are still lots of red links in the article as I got bored half way through as I realised how many there were! I guess my overall feeling is that there isn't much merit in having links to non-articles. --J2thawiki 12:26, 29 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I tend to agree with you, actually. I always hate to see those redlinks, especially in lists. But I was even lazier than you, and never did anything about them!! I may get rid of the rest of them myself today, and add a stub for one or two I noticed who are notable (or at least that I've heard of!). Cheers. --The.Q | Talk to me 13:56, 29 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Question about additions edits and refinements to narrative and assertions etcetera

[edit]

Immediately after updating, adding and refining this entry I noticed that it was immediately removed. Since someone has already created this profile and I am updating it why would this be? It certainly seems to contain substantial assertions of notability.

MASSIVE COPY AND PASTE FROM [1] REMOVED

—The preceding unsigned comment was added by CaptainAmericaLives (talkcontribs) 10:30, 2 April 2007 (UTC).[reply]

If you look at the reason for my edit (which reverted yours), it was "Please do not remove or change this AfD message until the issue is settled". The reason for my edit was therefore that you'd removed the AfD message. You are welcome to edit the rest of the article, but wikipedia policy is for the AfD message to remain until the Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/KRIS POTTS has concluded. --J2thawiki 10:36, 2 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

THANKS FOR THE EEXPLANATION, as my friends and I are fairly new here, we're trying to get the lay of the land of such terms, codes, etc. The deletion of that part was unintentional and, in aprt, a misunderstanding of the explanations and procedures misinterpreted/applied by a few newbies.

I posted some replies to the comments and criticisms. I hope it helps explains our efforts to provide proper content in acceptable and/or well-sourced form. Thanks.

don't remove speedys

[edit]

Please do not remove speedy deletion tags from articles, as you did with Alluc. If you do not believe the article deserves to be deleted, then please do the following:

  1. Place {{hangon}} on the page. Please do not remove any existing speedy deletion tag(s).
  2. Make your case on the article's talk page.

Administrators will look at your reasoning before deciding what to do with the article. Thank you. --NMChico24 09:13, 4 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I strongly resent the accusation I removed a speedy tag. If I recall correctly, I actually tagged the article with db-web in the first place. Do you have a Diff or do you want to withdraw the above? --J2thawiki 09:17, 4 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Help with the image Image:Anthony Kalloniatis.jpg

[edit]

I had uploaded the Image:Anthony Kalloniatis.jpg weeks ago and you had written on the talk page explaining what I needed to do to ensure that the proper license for the image was obtained. The owner, Anthony Kalloniatis, had given permission for it to be released under the GFDL. I forwarded all the information to OTRS weeks ago. But I haven't heard back from OTRS yet and the image is still marked a possibly unfree image. I even tried re-submitting the owner's approval to OTRS a week ago. Please, please help me with this, I do not know what to do and it's driving me nuts. Thank you. Chris01720 18:34, 12 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello J2thawiki, an automated process has found an image or media file tagged as nonfree media, such as fair use. The image (Image:Put music in your food.jpg) was found at the following location: User:J2thawiki/temp/Reggae Reggae Sauce. This image or media will be removed per statement number 9 of our non-free content policy. The image or media will be replaced with Image:NonFreeImageRemoved.svg , so your formatting of your userpage should be fine. The image that was replaced will not be automatically deleted, but it could be deleted at a later date. Articles using the same image should not be affected by my edits. I ask you to please not readd the image to your userpage and could consider finding a replacement image licensed under either the Creative Commons or GFDL license or released to the public domain. Thanks for your attention and cooperation. User:Gnome (Bot)-talk 05:54, 17 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Don_vito_mugshot.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Don_vito_mugshot.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. ShakespeareFan00 15:44, 8 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Thank you for uploading Image:Don_vito_mugshot.jpg,however it would be much appreciated if you could expand or clarify the sourcing information you have provided in the image summary., In particualr which agency or department took the photo orignally? Image:Ronald_Thom.jpg

[edit]

I have tagged Image:Ronald_Thom.jpg as {{no rationale}}, because it does not provide a fair use rationale. If you believe the image to be acceptable for fair use according to Wikipedia policy, please provide a rationale explaining as much, in accordance with the fair use rationale guideline, on the image description page. Please also consider using {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. Thank you. AfD nomination of Joe Francis

[edit]

An editor has nominated one or more articles which you have created or worked on, for deletion. The nominated article is Joe Francis. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also Wikipedia:Notability and "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion(s) by adding your comments to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Joe Francis. Please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate.

Please note: This is an automatic notification by a bot. I have nothing to do with this article or the deletion nomination, and can't do anything about it. --Erwin85Bot (talk) 01:10, 12 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free image File:Firing squad in iran.PNG

[edit]
⚠

Thanks for uploading File:Firing squad in iran.PNG. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

PLEASE NOTE:

  • I am a bot, and will therefore not be able to answer your questions. If you have a question, place a {{helpme}} template, along with your question, beneath this message.
  • I will remove the request for deletion if the file is used in an article once again.

Non-free rationale for File:The Soul of a Horse.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:The Soul of a Horse.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Replaceable fair use File:Paula yates.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Paula yates.jpg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 07:36, 12 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
