Rangeblocks
Try to use a templated block reason for range blocks such as {{anonblock}}, as it provides more information to the blocked users. Prodego talk 00:50, 1 February 2010 (UTC)
Possible sock puppet of User:FLPTrainor
Hi J. Would you please determine for me if User:WikiLawyerWasTaken is yet another sock of User:FLPTrainor? The new account’s so-far first edit suggests someone who is not a new Wikipedia editor and it is to an article edited previously by User:FLPTrainor and his sock puppets. I must admit, however, that the edit itself is not consistent with his previous sock puppet edits in substance and form. Rather, it is the edit summary that makes me suspicious. Thanks! — SpikeToronto 22:37, 2 February 2010 (UTC)
- I think it would probably be best to wait for further developments, but you are welcome to get another opinion if you want. (I'm not really familiar with FLPTrainor). J.delanoygabsadds 02:33, 3 February 2010 (UTC)
- Oh. The reason that I came to you for a CheckUser was that you ran it for this FLPTrainor enquiry here, which resulted in the blocking of two of his sockpuppets: User:Minsteire and User:Triadam. Then, you ran it again for this FLPTrainor enquiry here, which resulted in the blocking of yet another of his sockpuppets: User:Rachel-K-T.
I also know little of User:FLPTrainor other than what I have learned by reporting those three sock puppets to you. I just thought that this fresh new account, User:WikiLawyerWasTaken, might also be one and that CheckUser could confirm one way or another. Thanks! — SpikeToronto 23:38, 3 February 2010 (UTC)

Sockfarm...DUCK alert
Having some trouble with User:Mistaknleytaken, User:ImaSteveWillfan, User:Havingfuneveryday and User:Anotherdaygoneby vandalizing page (and their AfDs) they created. Seems all are new accounts and both are making the same general edits. My Duck-o-Meter is off the charts with this one. Could you do a CU and see if they are related? I will keep an eye on them. Thanks :) - NeutralHomer • Talk • 22:39, 2 February 2010 (UTC)

Help needed with reincarnations of Tfoxworth
I was referred to you by The Thing That Should Not Be for help. He recently intervened in the near-daily ritual of reverting the vandalisms of the ever-changing sockpuppets of permanently banned User:Tfoxworth. The latter's persistence over several years is flagrant and worse -- an invitation to others to mimic his evasions. A helpful admin recently said we're pretty much out-maneuvered. But I believe he can be stopped with help, as suggested here. Thanks for any consideration. FactStraight (talk) 03:54, 1 February 2010 (UTC)
- Well, if his internet connection is too dynamic, there isn't much we can do other than whack-a-mole. If he's creating a lot of accounts, you can give me the names and I can see if any rangeblocks are possible. J.delanoygabsadds 02:30, 3 February 2010 (UTC)
- As can be seen in this diff his revenge in the face of page protection is now to revert my past edits. Is it possible that when his vandalizing IPs are blocked, his edits can be auto-reverted? 16:33, 6 February 2010 (UTC)
Comment requested
I recently initiated a discussion on WP:ANI about a long term banned IP vandal who is IP hopping with AOL, continuing vandalism, and what to do about it. I'd appreciate your input, if you have time. Thanks. Connormah (talk | contribs) 23:30, 5 February 2010 (UTC)

Just wanted to draw your attention to a strange set of edits on this page. You reverted some vandalism in this diff [1] but inadvertently restored some previous vandalism. That same vandalizing editor seems to have corrected that vandalism afterward with this diff: [2] which seems kind of odd to me. Since I'm not familiar with that page, I thought I would draw your attention to it to make sure everything is the way it should be from your perspective. Reargun SPI
Hi. You made no comment on the SPI [3] who is once again editing one of Reargun's favorite articles. The other link between the IP and Reargun is the interest in Israeli subjects (the IP's only other edits). Before the SPI I tried to persuade Reargun into acknowledging his sock, after the SPI I blocked the sock and left Reargun unblocked explicitly offering him good faith. Is there any way at all to deal with the IP? Thanks. Dougweller (talk) 17:50, 9 February 2010 (UTC)
- Just because I refused to say whether an IP was related to a user does not mean that you are forbidden to take action if you think it is necessary. J.delanoygabsadds 18:31, 9 February 2010 (UTC)
- Ok, thanks. I am still finding my way around SPI issues. Dougweller (talk) 18:54, 9 February 2010 (UTC)
Help with Blocking
I was wandering if you could help me... I have reported two people to EricOrbit but I don't think he's been on. User::24.208.254.246 is Rude and is taking ownership of pages reverting my edits because they don't like them and adding things without a source, can you please block him or semi-protect the page because he's an IP?
Also User:Itsbydesign is rude and makes changes to only one page "Nothing But Love World Tour" he makes unconstructive edits and I was wandering if you could issue a permanent block because he rarely edits. Any help you could give would be greatly appreciated. Jayy008 (talk) 22:29, 13 February 2010 (UTC)
Obama Question
Quick question, I noticed you've worked on the Obama Probation page. When an editor violates the probation, where's the best place to report it? I posted about JB50000 (talk · contribs) on the "Requests for enforcement" page more than a week ago [4], and it doesn't look like that report was ever seen. The editor's been better about using the talk page since then, but tonight again made the same edit three times within 90 minutes on the Obama page. If it continues, should I take it to ANI? Thanks in advance for the help. Dayewalker (talk) 05:07, 14 February 2010 (UTC)
- Yeah, ANI would probably be best. I don't think too many people watch the probation page. (I know I don't. I only watch Obama's page in case there is simple vandalism). J.delanoygabsadds 05:09, 14 February 2010 (UTC)
- Man, that was a fast reply. Thanks! Dayewalker (talk) 05:10, 14 February 2010 (UTC)
Tfoxworth reincarnations
He threatens to revert my every edit indefinitely. He cannot be stopped by range blocks, and admin MuZemike found that he had to resort to article protection, because Tfoxworth generates new IPs and re-vandalizes as soon as one is blocked. Now that his copy-cat IP, User:Factsstraight, has been banned he's reverting me as 212.78.230.242. Please help. FactStraight (talk) 13:20, 14 February 2010 (UTC)
Filter necessary?
Hey J.delanoy. Glad to see you've done so much good work that you've really gotten the vandals angry. Based on the recent attacks, I've gone ahead and WP:BOLDly created a filter for you, filter 293. Sorry for not contacting you sooner, but I considered this more of an urgent matter so I took the "shoot first, ask questions later" approach. If you don't want it enabled (though I see no reason to allow it), feel free to let me know and I'll go ahead and turn it off (or of course, you can do that yourself). You can also go ahead and take a look at it and see if you think it covers everything (I'm not sure how well you know the edit filter system, feel free to ask me questions on my talk page or by emailing me). If you think I missed something, feel free to shoot me an email with some sample names I can test against; I was only able to construct the filter based on what I knew of the situation. Keep up the great work! --Shirik ♥♥ 06:03, 14 February 2010 (UTC)

The "Thank You Bye" Vandal
Could you do a checkuser on following IPs and see who pops up on them? A vandal using these IPs (which I have dubbed the "Thank You Bye" vandal, for their use of "thank you bye" in their edit summaries) uses these IPs and has committed ALOT of blanking vandalism, mostly to Washington DC area radio and TV stations (mostly WTOP-FM) and a certain North Carolina television station, WCTI-TV. I would hope a range block could be issued, but I fear it would cause alot of collateral damage in its wake.

The 98. are licensed to BellSouth in Atlanta, Macon and Warner Robbins, all in Georgia. The 68. are licensed also to BellSouth in Centreville, Jackson, and Macon, all in Georgia. Probably one is a cell and another is a PC with the different ranges, but I could be wrong.
Some have active blocks, but others don't. Is there anything that can be done with rangeblocks, long term blocks, or are we stuck with this guy? Thanks...NeutralHomer • Talk • 00:16, 21 February 2010 (UTC)

- Those ranges are too broad to rangeblock. With regard to checkuser, do you know of any diffs where registered accounts are making similar edits to the IPs? Otherwise, I think it's just fishing. J.delanoygabsadds 21:00, 21 February 2010 (UTC)
- Not that I can find, it is mostly just those two ranges (broad as they are). Would a long term (like 6 months to a year) block on all (and any that pop up) be possible? That way we don't have to worry about him coming back for awhile and anything that pops up is instantly blocked. - NeutralHomer • Talk • 15:05, 22 February 2010 (UTC)

Got another for a Range Block
First off, sorry to pile two things at once on top of you, but alot happened on my end at once. This one might be a little less broad. All are coming from DAKTEL.COM or Dakota Central Telecommunications in Carrington, North Dakota. Some of the edits are redirect vandalism, some moving vandalism, some downright pure vandalism as you will see in the links below. All have a pretty small range, so I am hoping this one will work.

Two of these have active blocks (of one week) applied yesterday. Since they are all on the 69.178. range these should be easier to rope in than the "thank you bye" vandal....I hope. Again, sorry for throwing so much at you at once. Thanks for your help on both threads. - NeutralHomer • Talk • 15:16, 22 February 2010 (UTC)

This ip is asking for unblock, and although the block log suggests an expired block by User:Luk is somehow still in place, he suggested that actually it's a rangeblock you made. So I guess I have two questions: Why does the expired block still show up? Would it be a big mistake to grant the unblock request? Beeblebrox (talk) 18:48, 28 February 2010 (UTC)
- The expired block shows up because 170.213.0.0/16 is blocked, and the block message system is still a bit buggy. I don't believe that granting the unblock request is even possible without unblocking the entire range. As for whether or not blocking the range is a good idea, that's something that J.delanoy would have to answer. NW (Talk) 20:09, 28 February 2010 (UTC)
