Adding signature/time to talk pages?

[edit]

Hello. I noticed that you were following behind me helping to clean up some recent Amarillo, Texas articled edits. Thanks! I have a quick question that I hope you can help with... How do you insert your username and time to any additions you make to Talk pages? As you can see from this entry (the one you're reading now), I haven't figured that out yet. Cheers, Lbbzman.

Oops... just figured it out. You had kindly listed it above and I wasn't even reading! Sorry :) Lbbzman 23:40, 20 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

AT&T Globe

[edit]

No, I didn't think of an edit war. The reason I thought that the new AT&T logo should be vertical was that all of the AT&T logos on the page are vertical, and AT&T has been advertising with the vertical logo. Also, regarding the 1983 logo, I put the version on that was most associated before 1999 (a.k.a. the "shadow" logo). The pre-1999 logo had more stripes in the globe as the official logo, while the 8-stripe logo was used before 1999, according to a PDF article on bellsystemmemorial.com, was used when the logo was to be used in small dimension.

Also, I have no capability to make .png images. I'm sorry for the "war" I might have caused, but I was trying to make changes based on historical accuracy. KansasCity 03:21, 10 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

New image I uploaded

[edit]

Hi. I notice you've raised concerns about sports-related images in the past. I uploaded Image:CarlosDelgado.jpg recently. Do you think that looks like an acceptable fair-use image? I'm pretty confused about why some sports people have images and some don't because they get deleted. Thanks. —Wknight94 (talk) 14:32, 4 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Bobby Trendy has been proposed for deletion. Please see the article for details. NickelShoe 05:11, 9 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Not that it matters, but that makes this [1] pretty confusing to me. Did you do a cut and paste move, or what am I missing? NickelShoe 05:25, 9 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Cut and paste moves are bad, you know. Kills the edit history. Since your edit summary didn't say where you got the text, it's awfully hard for me to figure that out. NickelShoe 05:33, 9 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
You know you can request moves, right? NickelShoe 05:33, 9 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

re: Wikipedia is not place to promote your website (Dragon Quest 8)

[edit]

J. Nguyen,

I appreciate your dedication in preventing spam from taking over Wikipedia and helping make it a great tool for gathering information. However, I would like to discuss your accusations of me “spamming” the Dragon Quest VIII Wikipedia entry.

Yes, that is a link from the gaming news website I work for. I believe I posted it in a tactful manner. If you look at #5 in your Wikipedia:Spam link you gave me, please take note that I didn’t violate any of those in the list. I will admit, the first time I posted my link I did put it before the “famitsu” line as I thought it would be more aesthetically pleasing for how the links were being laid out. My apologies for that.

By putting a review section on the Dragon Quest VIII wikipedia entry, I feel it’s relevant to post any and all reviews that people would find of interest for the game. I don’t think having a review section and saying “just keep it to really well known publication/websites such as gamespot, ign, 1up, eurogamer and famitsu” is fair and open exchange of information. That would be like saying “sure, there are tons of news networks on TV, but you can *only* watch MSNBC.”

Also, just because I’m not “well known” by you, doesn’t mean that what I write is any less credible or important than gamespot, ign, 1up, eurogamer and famitsu. There are tons of very well done reviews for the game, mine included, that I believe should be included in that review entry so people can have a choice in what they read.

I would also like to note, that at the bottom of the Dragon Quest VIII wikipedia entry, there are fan links that would also be classified as “Web sites or fandoms” as mentioned in your Wikipedia:Spam link. How do these escape the “Wikipedia:Spam” rules?

I think by even having a review or an external links section is just asking for links to be put in for articles/sites related to Dragon Quest VIII, providing they are done within the rules and not just there to “plug” a website. Honestly, the whole thing seems to be a “gray area” and I would rather not need to bring Wikipedia:Requests_for_mediation into it because the worst case scenario is that the review and external link sections get all external links that are not directly related (official sites, etc) to the game get removed and everyone (more importantly, the readers) loses.

Thoughts?

Thanks Nathias

PS – Thanks for setting up my User talk:Nathias or whatever needed to be done with it.  :)

Thanks for your help

Dude, thanks for your help with correctly identifying the college Mercury Morris attended. I was just having a little fun with you as far as the use of the term "dude". I read the Amarillo, Texas article which you have been working on and was very impressed. I have been working on some Florida cities, and your article kind of gave me some ideas how to approach "the big picture" if you will -for a medium sized city.

There was one thing I was wondering as I read through the article; however, and that is how come you didn't mention the Cattlemen v. Oprah Winfrey litigation in the article. Wasn't that a big deal out there in West Texas? Didn't that lead to the rise of Dr. Phil? Hokeman 04:45, 14 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Untagged image

[edit]

An image you uploaded, Image:Amarillo texas seal.png, was tagged with the {{coatofarms}} copyright tag. This tag was deleted because it does not actually specify the copyright status of the image. The image may need a more accurate copyright tag, or it may need to be deleted. If the image portrays a seal or emblem, it should be tagged as {{seal}}. If you have any questions, ask them at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. -- 13:22, 30 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:UT_System_Seal.png. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

Orphaned fair use image (Image:Texas AandM star logo.png)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Texas AandM star logo.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. The odds of me being the copyright holder is very very slim. Forget wikiquette and just be rude. Just orphanized on questionable "fair use" images such as magazine covers that don't relate to a subject. You're informing me an upload that I did over a year ago. No need to go all the time consuming images for deletion. Be a rebel and an orphan image bot. On your user page: I'm a self-described-self-described image cleaner and fair use inquisitor. Hi. I'm TechnoFaye and I'm writing this because you had perfectly good images you uploaded marked for deletion by Abu Bidali. You should know that he does this because he thinks it's funny; he even says so on his user page. More then 20 other editors just like us are parties to several formal complaints to Wikipedia in an effort to have him banned permanently for doing just what he did to you. Others have described him on the record as a "hoodlum" and a "vandal". My testimony was that "Bidali would be just as happy breaking antennas off cars at night". After he is gone, we can repair the damage he has done to WP. If you haven't already, please consider adding your name to the lists at: http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Wikipedia:Requests_for_comment/Abu_badali#Users_Who_Endorse_This_Summary http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Wikipedia:Requests_for_comment/Abu_badali#Users_who_endorse_this_summary:_2 http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Wikipedia:Requests_for_comment/Abu_badali#Users_who_endorse_this_summary:_4 http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Wikipedia:Requests_for_comment/Abu_badali#Other_users_who_endorse_this_summary http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Wikipedia:Requests_for_comment/Abu_badali#Users_who_endorse_this_summary

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:University-of-Kansas-sports-logo.png. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

This is an automated message from a robot. You have recently uploaded Image:Amarillo Globe-News logo.png. The file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. Image Copyright problem
Image Copyright problem

This is an automated message from a robot. You have recently uploaded Image:Amarillo-National-Bank-logo.png.

See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Dallas Texans AFL logo.png

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Dallas Texans AFL logo.png. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 07:56, 2 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:University-of-Colorado-Boulder-sports-logo.png.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thanks for uploading Image:Jake-delhomme-sports-illustrated-2005-cover.jpg. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Thanks for uploading Image:Iowa-State-University-sports-logo.png. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Kamr-tv-logo.png

[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Kamr-tv-logo.png. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator seven days after the file was tagged in accordance with section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.
