OK City Bombing -- GA review

[edit]

Hi, please see: User:Otheus/preview/Oklahoma City bombing. My changes have now been merged to the main article.

GA Reviews

[edit]

I see another of you places is up for review for GA. I informed User:DoomsDay349 who said he would review articles for GA for us. He has done a bunch in the past. Let me know if you have other articles that are up for B status, and I can pass those along also. or you going to take them straight from stub to GA?--Kranar drogin 14:36, 3 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, wanna join?

[edit]

Yo, would you be interested in actually joining WP:AWARDS? It would be nice to get some fresh blood in. Dev920 (Have a nice day!) 23:07, 3 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, that would be WikiProject Awards. Dev920 (Have a nice day!) 23:08, 3 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I know, and if it were anything else, I would have burnt my bridges there by now because it has all been highly unpleasant (I've been a member for three days). But these awards affect every single one of us, and I can't stand back and let a tiny group of people refashion WP:AWARDS into their own ideas of what barnstars should be against the community's will. The entire project needs to be simplified and promoted so more people vote on it rather than a self-selecting group of people who oppose everything vs. mass voting by WikiProjects. We need to bring more people into the entire project, not descend into mass-reverting on the basis of personal grievances. I can understand why you don't want to be involved, but I hope you'll join one day. :) Dev920 (Have a nice day!) 12:29, 4 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

DYK

[edit]
Updated DYK query On 4 March, 2007, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Civil War Memorial (Sycamore, Illinois), which you created or substantially expanded. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the "Did you know?" talk page.

Oklahoma City bombing

[edit]

As you have probably seen, the page had an overhaul removing some information and improving the quality of the grammar within the article. Could you please look it over again and see if there is anything else that needs to be fixed before passing it as GA? I will be adding new information to some of the sections, but nothing as large as the current revamp. --Nehrams2020 08:22, 4 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for passing the article, I really appreciate it. I had just finished reviewing another article when I saw that it was passed, so that was a great sight. I'm of course still working on it, and I hope I have gained a few more fellow editors who will help bring it to GA. Thanks for helping it with its first step on the way! Feel free to come drop by in discussion or leave some comments on how to improve it on the talk page if you have the time. --Nehrams2020 08:21, 6 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks

[edit]

It has been a rough week. Does or did the Antartic Highway Project really exist? I bet there are a couple of ghost towns down there. BTW, I was in town this week and caught the local station's report on Bodie, CA. There is a HD copy of the report on News10 California Postcard under the Bodie link. It's a pretty good report. Someone added a Bodie pic from this PD Photo site. Thanks for your thoughts. Ronbo76 13:34, 4 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The Wikibonked tag or the AHP tag? Again, thanks for your thoughts and well-wishes. Without being overly melodramic, this is a turning point; one that I hope to handle well and one that I will survive. Ronbo76 00:48, 5 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Most welcome - I'll leave some comments on the articles talk page.Good effort there - Peripitus (Talk) 07:05, 5 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks so much for helping me on this page as well :) I really appreciate it. Calineed 17:10, 5 March 2007 (UTC) (PS That WikiCookie looks delicious :))[reply]

Bodie, California might take a hit

[edit]

An editor taking a look at Gold rush claimed that the paragraph on Bodie, CA was incorrect. This has been previously deleted in that gold rush article. Being familar with the Bodie article, I reverted and discussed on the article's talkpage.

I also found a reference to the Bodie article but did not want to include it as it might appear that I am on an edit war. It is for Rosa May who is mentioned in the Bodie article. The Rosa May, Rosa Olague or Rosa May Olague???? is backed by a book on her (Prostitution in the West). Unfortunately the book's description appears on a booksite which is not the best link for a backup reference per WP:EL.

Rosa May is listed twice on www.bodie.com at Rosa May and Rosa May Oalaque (besides a link for the book onsite as a third reference).

The article on Bodie is one that I would like to seen brought to a B class article for the Ghost town project. Ronbo76 20:24, 5 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Make sure your library has it in stock. It may be a booklet. Ronbo76 22:04, 5 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
www.bodie.com also has books listed with one or two directly about Bodie. If you get the one on the madam, if there are graphic descriptions could you um, er, ah pass them on? Ronbo76 22:12, 5 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for protecting my page last night! BTW, while doing some work on an article, I ran across Wikisource which is another part of the Wikipedia community. It looks like it has promise and I intend to explore it later this week. Ronbo76 15:04, 6 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Done. Wait a minute, who you calling an Anti viral Puppet? I resemble that DNA strand and am a proud card carrying member! Ronbo76 15:16, 6 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Looks like the user, who was blocked last night, is back at because he is adding the same red wikilinks. I will be up for a while. Let me try my skills. Ronbo76 18:56, 7 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I noticed. Where you been? I put a geolink on Chana School hours ago. Ronbo76 06:05, 8 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
When you select the WikiMapia link, it presents a map with crosshairs. How far am I off? I can place the crosshairs directly on the school (just like I did the arena). That way when someone clicks the link, they can zoom in to see the school. Ronbo76 06:19, 8 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Try it now.—Preceding unsigned comment added by ronbo76 (talkcontribs)
I used to do that for a living. But I had fancier tools to do the measurements plus a guide. Ronbo76 06:33, 8 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I really like the WikiMapia geolinks interface to Google satellite. I have done that for some obscure WP:CAL project articles to get a viewable picture. If WikiMapia ever turns into an open source project, the zoomed in picture will be useable in Wiki articles. Ronbo76 06:43, 8 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I noticed your vote for RKLawton on the RfA page. Can anyone vote? The user doing copyedits to Illinois articles (like Normal, IL) is on the list. I'd like to vote for him and Lawton. Lawton gave me permission on WikiCommons to use his clown picture. Xiner is a good guy to vote for too. Ronbo76 14:59, 8 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Re:Banditti

[edit]

Well, article is looking good. The Major thing for me is that when I am reading an article, as you have stated, pictures make it 1000% better. SO, having just stated the obvious, I would say you need a picture of the gang. Maybe a map showing which counties they hit or operated in, with what towns/cities they hit. Any picture that does exist of them, should be beyond copyright now and should be free to use. Maybe photos of their graves even? A photo of the judge Thomas Ford found here would be nice [1]. I think you need an info box also. Oh, HERE WE GO! [2] Took me awhile to find that. Here is some more info [3], [4] Hope those help some more for you. --Kranar drogin 05:26, 6 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

At first I thought that pic was the gang, now I don't think it is. I'm not sure on the reliability of those pages either, but the one is on the NIU page. I'll check more and see if I can find something on them also. I did see on the google searches that there was a book or two on this gang also.--Kranar drogin 11:41, 6 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your review

[edit]

Thanks for a fantastic peer review on the Flag of the Yukon article. I'm going to start working on your suggestions as soon as I can. Funny that you mention "what about a flag before 1968", I was looking very hard into that and even e-mailed the Yukon government archives, but they said there was no flag before 1968, just a coat of arms since 1956. I found this hypothetical flag: [5] but the archives knew nothing about it, and thus I'm not sure whether to even bring it up in the article as a hypothetical example. A hypothetical example sounds like a non-verifiable fact. Any ideas? Thanks again for your helpful input. Bobo is soft 05:53, 6 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Peer review

[edit]

Will do after an appointment I have in 40 minutes. Will be back in about two to three hours if the clowns in fancy suits don't bog me down with legalese. Ronbo76 15:22, 6 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I had hoped someone else would be the first to review. So far, nadie. A couple of quick recommendations:
  • Is this a museum? It is a museum; If so, needs a cat.
  • Pictures look as if black and white. First good/great because it makes it look like a period piece. But, the color on the rest is subdued. Recommend reshooting to bring up color/contrast.
  • In first paragraph, the article states there are six registered sites with five listed. Might as well list them all.
  • Red wikilink for bell house - go with Bell tower or cupola.
  • The perpendicular addition is mentioned twice. Once in the initial paragraph and near the end. Could stand a copyedit to shorten it in the first paragraph (one line = it feautures a perpendicular addition unique to period).
  • Would look at the Manual of Style to see how the dates are formatted for the references (should it be notes or references?); in most articles I see, the first time a date is seen, it is formatted for user preferences (to include references).
  • Dates. Lots of years mentioned but no hard and fast dates. Dates that read as of 2006 or the 1950s can be formatted. See the MOS again.
  • If I had to rate this article, it would be Class A, Mid. Don't think that is GA. Not sure. Recommend a copyedit.
  • May want to get other project tags like architecture tag (I know they do buildings and bridges). Do not know if the schools project would be interested. I have their tag on my userpage. There is probably a museum project and maybe even a parks project.
  • Give me either a street address or approximate coordinates, and I will put a geolinks color scale photo link on it.
  • I am fading fast. Will look at article in morning. Ronbo76 07:06, 7 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Bit of stretch - but Laura Ingalls (Little House on Prairie) might be a See Also. Plus, who was that masked man who did not sign off on the review?

GA Nominee - Sunderland

[edit]

You have tagged the Sunderland article as failed GA because the time for carrying out the changes had expired. I am the person who was trying to get the article up to GA status. I spoke to the GA reviewer on his talk page to state that I was willing to make the changes, but due to personal problems it would be a week or two longer than stated. I will make the changes within the next week. It's up to you whether to leave it as failed, or revert the failure. Elysium 73 16:46, 6 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Save Indian Family

[edit]

I am wondering if you could clarify your quick fail of this article for good article status. I can't seem to find any information about "quick fail" on WP, which is part of my problem, so maybe you could help by pointing me in the right direction! I am a bit confused by the decision, because none of the criteria listed on the tag apply to this article, and as part as I read the Good Article criteria, images are not desireable but not required: "It contains images, where possible, to illustrate the topic" WP:GA?. The information that you suggest is missing would require original research to provide, which I am sure you would not advise!! As you will have noted, the article is very well cited, which has been part a concerted effort in the last few months by a number of editors (including myself) to remove unattributeable information material, and we wouldn't want to go in reverse, surely! --Slp1 22:58, 6 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Re:Next collaboration(s)

[edit]

Well, my goal was to get the five major cities done, major meaning population excluding Chicago. Hey, they have their own wiki project! Anyways, I am not sure I really want to work on the colleges, but they prolly would be easier to do. I picked Springfield, so you can pick the next one. Eventually I am just going to start working on Rockford, that one really needs to be cleaned up. I will keep an eye on that city you were talking about also. There are a lot of edits going on right now.--Kranar drogin 23:46, 6 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Well, you can rate any article you start, it is just when you want to take it the next step. By that I mean "B" status or higher. I am going to try and clean up the unrated section, Category:Unassessed WikiProject Illinois articles, as I get bored doing other things. The only thing I ask is that you at least make your articles stubs so they are in that category. If you add more info than just a few paragraphs, make it a start class. When you are ready to move it up from there, then unrate them so they go into that unassessed section and we can see what it is up for. That is the intention of that section anyways.
I would like to finish up Springfield, so once I finish the townships for McHenry, I am going to work hard on it. We need to get it to atleast GA or A status before I would like to move on. If we hit FA, great, but that is usually VERY hard to get. For now, have a good night.--Kranar drogin 04:58, 7 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
This whole photo deal is why I would like to do a city or something closer to us up here in the north! Sorry to all you southern and central Illinois people who read this! Let me know what you want to start with. (I am leaning towards Rockford, lol, since it is like 20 mins from my house). Like I said though, you choose!--Kranar drogin 04:30, 10 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Well, personally, I want to stay away from Chicagoland. THey have their own wiki group, so I would like to focus on things non-Chicago related. So for me, I wouldn't mind doing Rockford, DeKalb, Ogle County, or even Bloomington. We could start a page, but I think not many will respond. I will let you know when it is up.--Kranar drogin 04:46, 10 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your peer review. However, I have already reviewed the good article criteria and compared it to Percy Henn. I believe it meets all of the criteria? Auroranorth (WikiDesk) 10:23, 7 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Your rewrite of statements are completely wrong. Northam is in Western Australia, so Henn could not have returned to England and become rector there. I can't find anything wrong with our sentences. Auroranorth (WikiDesk) 11:07, 7 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. Auroranorth (WikiDesk) 11:13, 7 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

GA review

[edit]

Hi. Thanks for your recent review of Igor González de Galdeano - I just wondered if you could answer a couple of questions? You made a couple of points about the Palmarès section. Is it appropriate to have such a section (renamed into Major achievements or Teams and victories or something) at all, or any listing of victories and teams represented, or is this better all placed within the prose of the article? Mk3severo 10:48, 9 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your quick reply. Is it not enough to highlight the most important victories in the infobox (as they are in this case) - and then just get rid of the section entirely? Mk3severo 11:00, 9 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

History of Springfield

[edit]

I am working on it intermittently. I began writing yesterday, spending over an hour writing some stuff that covers the period up to the founding of the city based on the site we already discussed.

I will look at your sources once I get to a library with access. I had planned to do so anyway to look at that article you found on the race riots, and to try to find some other references. It looks like you will have saved me some time in finding these other sources though.

In the interests of expediency, I will start the article with what I can based on the one source I already have. This will make easier for you to contribute (which I am very pleased that you seem eager to do). I probably will not get around to finishing it today, but will aim for Sunday. David H. Flint 15:21, 10 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I just put the text that I have so far at User:David H. Flint/History of Springfield, Illinois. I will be working on it there temporarily to fully flesh out the formatting and refrences, but at least now you can see what I have so far and make edits or recommendations, as you see fit. I had hoped to have it more complete tonight, but I have a migraine right now. David H. Flint 05:12, 12 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
ALright, I think it is time to finsih Springfield up and move on to the next after nominating it for GA. I have some maps I have to finish uploading of townships, once I am done doing that I am back to focusing on this so we can move on to another city. I think though, that we should have David's history up before nomination. --Kranar drogin 22:13, 19 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Anon IPs are chipping away from this article. The last rewrite is heavy-handed IMHO. Would look at it? The best part was the possible identification of the Division of Mines line. Looks like the anon IP registered after the last edit as Bodiehistory. Ronbo76 23:21, 12 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Aurora

[edit]

Blocks are not to be used as punishment, but to protect the Wiki from further damage. That's exactly what being done. To be frank, I can't see him catching on any time soon. There's no doubt he's a bright boy but he just operates on a different wavelength to the rest of the people here. You have to ask yourself: are we here to coach schoolkids or to write an encyclopaedia. I know what I'm here for. —Moondyne 12:49, 15 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Not punishment. Rather an attempt to reform by forcing him to bear the consequences of his actions. This has been discussed extensively with other involved admins; we were all at our wits' end with it; and we made a group decision that he would be required henceforth to bear the consequences of his unintended disasters.
Aurora is the first time I've ever found it necessary to use blocks in this way. Normally I only block blatant vandals. Because I'm on uncertain ground, feedback is especially welcome.
I assure you there is no malice in this, just equal measures of frustration and determination.

P.S. Edit conflict; thanks for the support, Moondyne.
No worries, nothing to apologise for. You were very polite, and I assure you I can take a good personal attack anyhow. WP:THICKSKINNED should be just as important as WP:CIVIL on Wikipedia, but it doesn't get any attention at all. :-( Hesperian 13:05, 15 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Re the 2 business and your question on Hesp's page... I honestly have no idea, but given his current status here, I wouldn't overly worry about it. My guess is it's some sort of threat, he seems to generate quite randomly titled articles in his userspace (and occasionally on WP: space - however those usually get speedied). WP Ghost towns

[edit]

On another note, any opinion on my comment on the Ghost Towns talk page? I regret the way I opened that discussion, but the core issue remains. Hesperian 11:41, 16 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for that. Sorry to hear it's a bit dormant at the moment. I think WikiProjects usually only work when the community is already there but needs a bit of coordination. But you never know, maybe with the rescope it will pick up. My part of the world has many ghost towns - mostly gold rush towns that were abandoned once the gold played out. Hesperian 12:07, 16 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I added a few, including four in Australia and one in Turkey (which I've actually been to - rather eerie place!) to the project. Orderinchaos78 12:48, 16 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
And I added all the rest in Category:Ghost towns in Australia. Maybe some Aussies will see the tags and join up. Hesperian 12:51, 16 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ebyabe placed an class B assessment tag on Postage stamps of Ireland and I asked him for some advise on bringing it up to GA or possibly even FA status. He suggested I ask for your advise on this topic, so if you have any constructive advise on improving it I would appreciate that. I did a lot of work on this article last year. It might also be a great boost to the philately project to get an article to a higher rating. Ebyabe even suggested that he might have rated it a start class but I wonder what size article he expect if this was just a start. It is already over 30kb and IMHO gives a very balanced view of the topic. Anyway, I'll wait for your comments here (not on my talk page unless you want to move it over there specifically). ww2censor 04:41, 21 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I certainly think I should make some, if not several, inline citations, though all the facts quoted can be found in the sources already provided, though page numbers are not given. ww2censor 04:51, 21 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Rock Springs

[edit]

I had a quick look and did some bitty-fixes and will try and give it some attention in the next few days; US-side frontier history's not my forte but as you've gathered I'm a stickler on language, assumptions, repeated but unsubstantiated claims that are actually opinions or POV in nature to start with, and outright POVism masquerading as correctness. But I better read the article and try and appraise myself of the topic before I look at or at least before I comment on the peer review, so I understand the immediate subject matter.—Preceding unsigned comment added by Skookum1 (talkcontribs) 06:25, 21 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I am going to stick to this one, since basicallly Springfield is just clean-up which is more your field than mine. I did get in touch through e-mail with someone who gave me someone who can get us a full list of names for the Mayors list. Have to use the phone, but there is a specific book it is in that we can cite. So that is good. Also, e-mail me at kranar (at) housedreadnaught (dot) net and I will give you my real e-mail. Thanks guy.--Kranar drogin 22:00, 21 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Regarding the delayed review of the above article, it really doesn't bother me how long it takes, but could you hold off posting it for three weeks? As in one week's time I will depart for Italy for two weeks, and will be unable to carry out your suggestions if they are posted then. I shall let you know when I return; the review will be welcome anytime then. Regards, Blood Red Sandman (Talk) (Contribs) 13:01, 24 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

See this edit. It doesn't really bother me; it can stay failed for now and go back on hold immediatly when I return and get the review, but I thought I'd give you a heads-up about it anyway. Blood Red Sandman (Talk) (Contribs) 17:18, 26 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Illinois Parks

[edit]

Just checked that article out, very impressive. Do you know who did that map of Penn like that? I would love to have something like that for the Illinois list.--Kranar drogin 20:00, 25 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I just left him a message, I really hope he can help us out. Otherwise, I am sure we can figure it out. All you have to do is go to the template page Template:State parks of Pennsylvania map, and we can figure it out I am sure. Wait and see what his response is.--Kranar drogin 20:05, 25 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Looks as though we may have to get the Physical geography page up and running for the parks. I am thinking we may have to at the very least stub everything out. I also have the link to the park info boxes on my talk page incase you are wondering what it is.--Kranar drogin 23:55, 25 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

If you have to go through a committee to get GA or FA status for an article, what's the process for getting an article to an A. 'Cause I can't find anything. I'm just sayin'. :) --Ebyabe 12:26, 28 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Articles about words

[edit]

Hi, you left a comment on User:Badlydrawnjeff's talk page on this, I'll respond here so as not to fill up his page with discussion he might not be interested in. You said, "IMO articles about words are pretty much awesome, but there isn't much of a point in stubbing every word in existence, that's crazy. To me, they should be added as users are willing to create them and expand them beyond a simple dictionary def (etymology etc, usage etc.), that way they avoid the deletionists".

The problem with this is that it violates one of the basic process that a huge percentage of our best articles follow: low quality stub becomes ok quality stub becomes ok quality article becomes good quality article becomes good quality well sourced article becomes excellent quality sourced article. If we auto-delete a certain category of articles half way through the process, claiming that the problem is the process isn't finished yet, then how is the process ever supposed to get finished?

This is, in fact, what we do now. We only keep good or excellent quality articles on words, anything less than that is deleted, which means it never has a chance to get better. While this doesn't make sense to me, I don't really know how we should be handling articles on words, because I don't know how we go about determining which words are "notable", or which words can have full high quality articles written about them.

And, note that we have articles on She, Thou, You, We, but no articles on Me, He, They. We have an article on But, but not on And or Or (the ones we don't have from the previous are disambig pages or redirects). Why is "she" a worthwile topic, while "he" is not? Why "but", but not "and" or "or"? --Xyzzyplugh 20:21, 28 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use exemption

[edit]

I don't want to bother with petty arguments between non-issues (I don't really give a shit if you're "rude" or not, I was just trying not to be rude myself). In fact, I don't want to bother with this argument as a whole. It would probably turn out like my Gundam AfD, with somewhat 20 consecutive people arguing different points I had already covered. If you feel so strongly about a "push" to a free encyclopedia, that's great, but the English Wikipedia needs to hurry up and fulfill that by banning them completely, not just slowly making "steps". --Teggles 12:03, 30 March 2007 (UTC) [reply]

Rock springs clarifications

[edit]

"In... February 1884, J.R. Tucker stated that Chinese population in the United States stood at 105,465, or around 0.2 percent of the total population. The U.S. Minister to China, George Seward, had asserted similar numbers in Scribner's Magazine five years earlier."

Does this mean that in 1879, Seward gave the same total for Chinese population? That would imply that it hadn't grown between 1879 and 1884, which seems unlikely. Or does it mean that the Chinese population was still around 0.2% of US, in which case it would be more clear to say that Seward asserted similar percentages five years earlier?

Also, I intend to change the "Tucker used numbers corroborated by Seward" passage to something like "Tucker, corroborating numbers given by Seward". If Seward spoke five years earlier, he can't corroborate something that wouldn't happen until five years into the future. Tucker, however, could corroborate what Seward had said earlier. Advise if this was the intent, or if something else was intended by this part. Unimaginative Username 18:34, 21 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'd like to clarify this comment. Although Seward can't reach into the future and give additional evidence to support Tucker, Sewards's 1879 numbers certainly could provide a basis for Tucker's 1884 statement. So, "Tucker, using numbers corroborated by Seward's earlier report..." Unimaginative Username 18:58, 21 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Our Chalet

[edit]

You made some good outsider input here, which I do appreciate, but things like World Chief Guide are titles, not "jargon". As for Image:OurChalet.jpg, if you think it's so easily replaceable, find it, because I sure couldn't.Rlevse 10:02, 30 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You're joking right? "Easily replaceable" includes flying to foreign country to take picture for wikipedia? If another person did so and doesn't make it available on the net, it's not easily replaceable. Try finding replacements for some of the images you mark as such and then see what you think. Rlevse 10:30, 30 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The key here is the definition of "reasonably can be replaced by free/libre images". IMHO the current intrepretation thereof has entered the surreal.Rlevse 11:45, 30 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ivo Shander article

[edit]

I don't really have any idea on what else to include in the article. Is there any possible fair use image you can add for the article at all? Unfortunately, I have not even seen the Ghostbusters movies, which I probably should, since I recently heard their having a remake done soon. It's currently in my Blockbuster queue, but since I haven't seen the movie, I don't really know what else the article should include. Maybe consider a peer review, and do for sure get the inline citations. I'm sure with maybe one or more sections of information (once you figure out what they are about), the article could reach GA. Let me know if the article does get a GA or I can look it over again once I watch the movie. Good work so far. --Nehrams2020 00:13, 2 April 2007 (UTC) [reply]

Historic district (United States)

[edit]

I looked over the article (sorry for taking so long, I had a busy day of classes) and found a few minor things, mostly grammar issues. I think once you fix the below suggestions you should nominate it (and then wait a month for it to be reviewed!). Let me know if you want any further clarification on these and thanks for the offer of reviewing an article of mine down the road. I want to work on the Leslie Nielsen article soon, but I'm waiting for some free time in my schedule.

  • In the intro sentence, entities is spelled wrong. Done IvoShandor 06:03, 5 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • "All but the eponymous district category are also applied to historic districts listed on the National Register. [5]" Remove space between punctuation and inline citation. Done IvoShandor 06:03, 5 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • In the Property types section, integrity and integral are spelled wrong. Done IvoShandor 06:03, 5 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • In Federal historic districts, physical and separated are misspelled. Done IvoShandor 06:03, 5 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • "The Register is the official recognition by the U.S. government concerning the historic or architectural significance of a district or property." This could use an inline citation. Not done IvoShandor 06:03, 5 April 2007 (UTC)  Done IvoShandor 07:44, 5 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • "However, if a property falls under one of those categories and are "ntegral parts of districts that do meet the criteria" then the exception for their listing will be made." Integral is spelled wrong. Done IvoShandor 06:03, 5 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • In Local historic districts section, Regulations is spelled wrong twice, once in the citation and again in the last paragraph of the section. Done IvoShandor 06:03, 5 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • "In addition, the property becomes protected under specific state laws." Could you possibly explain what type of protection? I think you do include some information in a later statement ("Local historic districts usually enjoy the greatest level of protection, under law, from any threats that may compromise their historic integrity."), but maybe move this up earlier if applicable. Not done IvoShandor 06:03, 5 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I have somewhat reworded this. I can include some specific state laws that protect properties more (Tennessee) but I think Nevada and North Carolina should be suffcient for the opposite (no real protections). If not let me know. IvoShandor 08:06, 5 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

--Nehrams2020 03:55, 5 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Good job on fixing all of those (I'm sure the spelling wasn't that difficult). The only other thing I would suggest is to adjust the bottom two images by spacing them out more (perhaps put one in the significance section) and maybe going through and adding more wikilinks you think are necessary. I'd recommend nominating it at GAC whenever you're ready. --Nehrams2020 08:26, 5 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I use the USGS maps (via Topozone if I do not own it) or the PennDOT county maps here for info on Pennsylvania geography. There are other branches of Tionesta, but the PA Gazzetter of Streams treats the West Branch as an extension of the main creek for length, so that is why I cited it in the stub. How close did I come to the Ogle County Courthouse? Ronbo76 13:47, 28 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The coordinates you gave me have been converted and plot out to the decimal ones used on the article's Geolinks. You said the crosshairs need to go left, which I interpret as being west (North would be up; West would be left - all as you look at the north based map used by Geolinks). About how far left do I need to go in terms of feet (5260 feet equals one mile)? Do I need to go North (up) or South (down) also? To the left of the crosshairs, I see a big park about 800' slightly SW. Where is it in reference to that park with the green bushes to the north of the building in that park setting?
That was my initial choice but from the zoom level and where the geodetic coordinates plotted out (along with the article's referenced street, I put the crosshairs on a building that was just slightly south of where they fell initially. I will move now. Should take about 30 minutes. Ronbo76 12:37, 5 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Wikimapia is locking up on me (I am on a new server and all the kinks are not worked out. I think I am within 50 feet of the building. How does it look now with the new save?
I will refine it when my server is fully up. ATT does not kick in for about another three hours or so. Now onto Rocksprings. I used to fly near there and if I remember correctly, its VORTAC says its name in a mechanical computer voice. Ronbo76 13:00, 5 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Used to. I've even taken a hop off the deck of the Carl Vinson. I am now trying to place where Chinatown was in RKS. I found a bunch of articles on the Massacre using this Yahoo search. Any ideas where Chinatown was in town? All references say it was burnt to the ground with this link, Pilot Butte saying that camp was built as some kind of memorial/buffer zone. Ronbo76 13:19, 5 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Forgot to mention it, but, if you place your curson in the upper right portion of the Wikimapia display of Rock Springs map, and drag it down to the left, you will see the ridgeline and what looks like a mine shaft opening or hole. Ronbo76 17:41, 10 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Thanks

[edit]

That's some extensive thanks for such a minor little thing! But yes, all those links in one place like that would've been nice to have had a few weeks ago. You make the criteria sound kind of scary, though -- so picky! Makes me wonder if I should ask you to take a look at the one I nominated yesterday, so it gets such thorough feedback, or not, so it actually passes! :p (And wow you respond fast. Less than a minute after I posted about Our Chalet pictures?) -Bbik 04:24, 31 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Golubac fortress, in all it's remaining timeline confusion. It makes for a nice little list of questions on the talk page. Oh, and at least a couple of the red links should be getting pages soonish, once I figure out how I want to do it. Probably nothing more than stubs, but I'm going with the theory that a longish stub is better on its own than getting mangled and tangled in a barely related article. Thanks :) -Bbik 04:32, 31 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, one of the questions, 6A), you might be able to help me figure out, too, since it's more a general page-naming thing than anything about the fortress. So... if you have any idea how that one should go, please let me know! -Bbik 04:40, 31 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

So, as for whether or not it can all be fixed in a week, I'd like to (probably unrealistically) hope so and at least see what I can do. However, if having red links is that big a deal that it'll fail if it has a couple, might as well just fail it now. While I can make quick stubs for most (to get it down to "a couple" and because I only have enough info for a stub anyhow), the Babakaj and Peace of [pick a name] articles have more info, and I'd just assume make them half-decent or not bother at all, so they'll take longer. (And just in case you somehow didn't notice the string of edits I made to the page in your userspace, I've added a bunch of questions and such there.) -Bbik 06:03, 5 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yup, I just haven't dealt with them yet. Ignore them on the next read-through (assuming you haven't done it yet), I'll fix them either today or tomorrow. -Bbik 16:23, 6 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

(Up here again, but let me know if you'd rather I start a new section, since this one's getting stale.) I was mostly just wondering if you noticed the "I'm stuck, I think it's time for a read-through/assessment/somesuch again" bit that I added amidst all the rest of my comments/questions, since I haven't heard anything in response. If you don't have the time right away, that's fine, no real rush (aside form the whole hold deadline thing), just making sure it's not forgotten. And for what it's worth, if you ever want another set of eyes to copyedit or something for your articles, just let me know, and I'll do what I can. -Bbik 04:07, 10 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Oooo thanks! I'll copy the citations to the Significance section in a bit, hardest part of that is just re-finding the original lines, and I'll add more specific ones for Architecture as soon as I can find/verify it... Trying... -Bbik 08:05, 10 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
GA and a shiny! Well, certainly wasn't expecting the second, even if I was hoping for the first eventually. At any rate, the significance citations are added. There's probably another somewhere too, I'm starting to get it all confused with my Smederevo sources. Thanks again! For both! -Bbik 08:16, 10 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ogle County Courthouse GA on hold

[edit]
GA on hold — Notes left on talk page. --Nehrams2020 02:50, 10 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Wanted to let you know I started going over the notes, I can't seem to find this under reference #4:
In the second courthouse section, move "A one-story brick building, the second Ogle County Courthouse was constructed for $3,000." before the prior sentence. Also make sure the inline citation at the end of the paragraph documents the $3,000, if not, add a new inline citation with a source.
I did find in reference #5 it did cast $106,951.--Kranar drogin 03:52, 10 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I've been leaving that message on all of my GA reviews, and I considered not leaving it since I've seen you review many articles. But I saw that Kranar drogin was also working with you (plus any other editor who may read the review down the road) might want to help. I'm trying to get as many people to help with this backlog which has grown by thirty articles in a month. I'm actually really busy with tests on Wednesday and studying for them, but I figured I should do at least one article, and I saw yours that looked like it didn't have any major problems. Again, good work on it, I'm glad to pass another article of yours. --Nehrams2020 07:46, 10 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, those look like they would work great. I had previously used one of the other templates like that, but it didn't work well for me, but I'm willing to give yours a try. But I probably will not be reviewing any articles until Thursday or Friday. I now have it on my talk page, so I can use it if I need it. And that sounds great that you leave the "help with the backlog" message also; the more the merrier! Off to bed now, too much school stuff tomorrow. --Nehrams2020 07:55, 10 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Congrats. BTW, what is the six-sided building just west of the courthouse in Wikimapia display?
No, this white building is on what looks like a school complex (now that I look at it again). It is just north of a track and baseball diamond on the same complex.

Hi Ivo

[edit]

I did see the list and you can continue to create the articles. These last two weeks have been very busy; I will get the photos taken, but only for ones with articles (or if there is a building of particular note you want). [edit]

Whoa! No, it's fine. I've been busy today and your message wasn't last on my talk page so I missed it. Sorry about that.

So what reasons would you like to become an admin? That way I can help fine tune specific areas. Nice to meet you by the way. James086Talk | Email 12:25, 10 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

When closing more difficult debates, like Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Stoopid Monkey (from today's list), it comes down to descretion. I would tend to keep that article based on DHowell's response and the references in the article. There's a process for what to do when closing a deletion debate which explains what to do but judging the result of a debate is sort of hard to explain. I tend to give comments with policies more weight, so if someone points out how article doesn't pass the notability criteria it makes their view more convincing. But that's just me. Make a user subpage and link some XfD debates that are due to end tomorrow and then note how you would close them. eg.
Though try to pick something a little harder ;)
Could you give me a link to your dispute? If it was sufficiently long ago and you have been civil since, then people shouldn't count it in an RfA (Jeez you reply fast). James086Talk | Email 12:54, 10 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Ouch. That's going to come up in an RfA. I think most people would want you to wait 'til the end of May/early June to go for an RfA (3 months). I can see you are sorry but you might get shot down if you go for an RfA too soon. It's been about a month and a half of good editing with no disputes so that's good. All I can suggest with respect to that is keep up the good work since. Don't try to hide it in an RfA (that will be disasterous), link it and explain what happened. James086Talk | Email 13:24, 10 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
By June you should be fine. It will probably raise concerns but I think that you'll be alright. There's no rush and some people get opposed for being too eager to become admins. Don't give up if you do want to be an admin, it's not like becoming a bureaucrat (I'd hate to go through that process). You should be fine in a month or 2. If that's the only mishap on your record then given time it will blow over. James086Talk | Email 13:46, 10 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Any time, it might take a while for me to respond as with your original query, but sure. If you have a specific question ask away. I'll nominate you when you feel ready if you like, self-noms are generally less successful. James086Talk | Email 14:03, 10 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to WikiProject Journalism!

[edit]

Hello, and welcome to WikiProject Journalism - I'm sure your input there will be valued! In particular, User:Wiki Wistah has proposed a guideline for editing articles about newspapers, and although I've responded with comments of my own, WW rightly suggested that it should be more than just a two-way conversation. Any suggestions would certainly be appreciated. Otherwise, if this is not of interest to you, or if you've already got a plateful of editing, feel free to ignore this message! -Tobogganoggin talk 02:06, 11 April 2007 (UTC) [reply]

Re:RAOK

Thanks for the barnstar! I was happy to assist. Anything that gets IL more GA articles!--Kranar drogin 10:19, 10 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Just noticed that, that was awesome.--Kranar drogin 10:23, 10 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Haha, no worries! I think now I am going to finish stubbing out the Protected Areas of Illinois.--Kranar drogin 10:30, 10 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Awesome, Springfield deserves to go FA. I'll keep an eye on it, and when the checklist comes up I will go through it as soon as possible if you don't get to it first. Good luck with going Admin. EVentually, I am going to stub out List of Registered Historic Places in Illinois, but that is down the road yet. I figure, having stubs are important so people can expand upon them. I'm up for a WikiIL meetup.--Kranar drogin 10:48, 10 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Have you posted Springfield to GA yet?--Kranar drogin 02:36, 12 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I'll see what I can do, but even Detroit doesn't have those on its page.--Kranar drogin 10:26, 13 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
One source here [8] has dates, but not being in April. Let me keep looking. I don't even know who put these up there. I don't remember them being there when we started.--Kranar drogin 10:39, 13 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

HA! You ask, and you shall receive! It is actually in the discussion archives Wikipedia:WikiProject Illinois/Collaboration/archives/Springfield, Illinois, do a search on charter on that page. Which then points you to this page [9]. GA, here we come!--Kranar drogin 10:48, 13 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

AfD

[edit]

Hello Ivo, thanks very much for your message to my talk page. Naturally, I am unhappy that the article is nominated for deletion. I put hard work into it, and I did so largely because of suggestions that the other article needed (first) expansion and then to be re-written into Summary Style. However, the main reason I am unhappy about the article being nominated for AfD is not that I put a lot of work into, but just that I think the article should be kept. There is valuable information here for a fan of either of these two sports programs or for someone interested in college football in general.

However, I am not mad at you. I know this was not a personal attack, and I know that you are only doing what you felt was best. I just happen to disagree with you (rather strongly in fact) but that does not make it personal. I do appreciate the barnstar in recognition of other work that I have done. I will proudly display it on my user page, however this turns out.

I do have a question for you, if you don't mind. At AfD, you say that you did not suggest writing an individual article about a specific game. However, I believe your exact statement was "This article seems unusably long, consider breaking it up per WP:SUMMARY". WP:SUMMARY states, right at the top, "When articles grow too long, longer sections should be spun off into their own articles and a several paragraph summary should be left in its place." It continues "Longer articles are split into sections, each about several good-sized paragraphs long. Subsectioning can increase this amount. Ideally many of those sections will eventually provide summaries of separate articles on the subtopic covered in that section..." (emphasis mine) Do you have any other suggestions for how to re-write the article in Summary Style besides the way I am doing it? To me, splitting out the more detailed games is the logical way to proceed. Also, the College Football WikiProject has a specific Header Template for just such, single game articles. Following the WP:SS of the WP:MOS and following the precedent and established format set by the WikiProject, I created the article as I did. Therefore, you nomination does confuse me somewhat.

I hope that you will consider switching your vote to supporting the existence of this article. Best regards, Johntex\talk 17:39, 13 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

GA Springfield

[edit]

Well, Springfield attained its GA. There are a few things we will have to fix to go beyond to FA. Congrats! Now for Peoria I guess.--Kranar drogin 22:45, 13 April 2007 (UTC) [reply]

Re: Hello

[edit]

Hey Ivo, I am certainly open to photo requests with no guarantees. I live in the metropolitan area of NYC, and as a high school student, get in once usually every other weekend or so, so it depends on what the place is. If you tell me what it is, I could probably give you an estimate on number of weeks until I get it. Best, Fbv65edel / ☑t / ☛c || 03:41, 14 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, well I can shoot for next weekend, when I think I'll be heading into the Museum of Natural History. But you might contact someone else to try his or her shot at it, just the same. I can let you know as my plans develop throughout the week. --Fbv65edel / ☑t / ☛c || 19:15, 14 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Crossair GA

[edit]

Hi, just a note to let you know I'm back and ready anytime for your review on Crossair Flight 498. Thanks in advance, Blood Red Sandman (Talk) (Contribs) 22:33, 17 April 2007 (UTC) [reply]

I know you aren't excited about doing this one, but lets just try and get it to GA and move on to Ogle. It shouldn't take too long. If you could, could you stub out these historical buildings in the article here [10]. I am going to start to look into finding information on this city.--Kranar drogin 23:37, 13 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Also, if you can, we need to do a total rewrite of History of Peoria, Illinois, due to the fact that well, there isn't any structure to it, and the fact that it is blatant copyright violation in some areas. I have slowly been fixing stuff with it, but since you are a much better writer than I, you might want to take a stab at it.--Kranar drogin 21:07, 14 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Cool, I have seen the on-going list. Would you be able to rewrite that section into a paragraph also? I am trying to figure out the Media section. Prolly will make a subsection like Detroit did, and only have a little info there on the main page.--Kranar drogin 22:37, 15 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know if you would have more time during the day, but I work 7-5 most days, and it doesn't allow me time to make a phone call. I was wondering if you could follow up on this. I sent an e-mail to the Springfield website about getting a list of the mayors together, here is the response I got back:

I would suggest you try the Sangamon Valley Collection at Lincoln Library. Curtis Mann should be able to help you. He can be reached at 217-753-4900.

That is their number on their website. Would you be able to get ahold of them? I was going to pass this to you by e-mail, but since it is all on their website I don't think it will be a problem to post it here. Thanks.--Kranar drogin 10:55, 17 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Call the number sometime during the day. Ask for Curtis Mann, and ask about what the mayors of Springfield are. Shoot, I should have put this under a different category, oh well now. He should also be able to give you the book information so we can include that into the page as a reference. Oh, I thought you were putting up Chana School? When I requested a guy to review, he couldn't find it up for GA. Let me know when you got it up!--Kranar drogin 22:49, 17 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I don't know, I will pass it along to another reviewer.--Kranar drogin 00:58, 18 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, you know why? There is nothing in the talk page.--Kranar drogin 01:00, 18 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for getting those done. What do you have left with University of Illinois Experimental Dairy Farm Historic District. Peer Review?--Kranar drogin 02:44, 18 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for catching that vandalism on my page, first time it has happened. Anyways, I am continuing to add to Wikipedia:WikiProject Illinois/Historic Places as I find them. I don't know if you monitor it much, but I did add another Chicago one today on there that I found. Needs a lot of help. Just letting you know.--Kranar drogin 10:37, 18 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

GA criteria

[edit]

I noticed you run your own GA criteria template. You might want to change it a bit, because some of the criterion have been consolidated in the recent revision of the criteria. Just a heads up. — Deckiller 08:57, 18 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I posted it on the main GA talkpage and the criteria talkpage, but not the candidates talkpage. I'll post it there now. — Deckiller 09:00, 18 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, please can you tell me why you failed this article for GA. All of the points were fixed. The reviewer hasnt been back to assess it since, but that isnt the contributers fault.Gungadin 12:20, 18 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Your GA nomination of Rock Springs Massacre

[edit]

The article Rock Springs Massacre you nominated as a good article has passed , see Talk:Rock Springs Massacre for eventual comments about the article. Good luck in future nominations. LordHarris 13:27, 18 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You're welcome!

[edit]

You're welcome, I did so at the behest of Kranar Drogin, he and I talk off wiki a lot, so I get some requests from him at times. I'll look at the others in a little bit. DoomsDay349 20:23, 18 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi.

Really? I have always been told that perfect citation of references was a requirement for GA status and it has been part of my submissions and reviews!

Nonetheless, the GA candidate list is loooong and I've been looking at helping reduce it. The way I see it is that if Cheshire Mammoth Cheese hasn't been fixed in the specified 7 days it should fail. Time to be brutal....! But, it seems that someone has got there first.... —The preceding unsigned comment was added by IvoShandor (talkcontribs) 09:02, 26 April 2007 (UTC). [reply]

Glad I could be of help

[edit]

I'm sorry I wasn't able to give it more attention; I'm a multi-tasker outside of Wiki was well as within and have been caught up in certain matters, including preparing to go offline (not just Wiki, 'cepting email) for the summer, so will be parting pathts from Wikiepedia....perhaps never to return; so I've been busying myself these last few days left with writing all the articles and organizational stuff I've beeen meaning to get to while dealing with everybody else's agendas ;-0. Oh well, so much information, so little time. Anyway, glad I was of some help; I might have been more if it hadn't been for "that damned AFD", which given the contexts of my assistance on your article vs the things I was being called over there.....ah well, there is life beyond the sandbox, one supposes.....Skookum1 07:44, 19 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Glad to hear all your hard work paid off! I'm in revision mode at the moment (scary exams coming up in 2 months), but if you want more copy-editing done, you know where to find me... might be a little slow in the response, that's all.

I love the fact that Woo hoo has its own page!
