Speedy deletion declined: Products manufactured in australia
Hello IBen. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Products manufactured in australia, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: It's POV, OR etc, but not really covered by "Economy of Australia" - let the PROD take care of it. Thank you. JohnCD (talk) 12:05, 24 January 2010 (UTC)

My comment was not intended to be uncivil. My apologies if it came across that way. If you could explain to me in what manner it was uncivil it would help me to improve my etiquette. Chillum (Need help? Ask me) 22:46, 24 January 2010 (UTC)

I see you have begun writing this. Pretzels' advice made it seem as if you should write any of the pages which aren't already started, but he intended for you to write any that did not already have a steady writer (see here). It isn't a big problem, I suppose, and you can finish it for this week if you would like. But I will resume writing it next week. ÷seresin 18:55, 24 January 2010 (UTC)
- Didn't mean to step on your toes. As you said, User:Pretzels' advice seemed to say start on whatever you like.
Anyway, you can write it if you'd like. However, I'd be happy to help. -- iBentalk/contribsIf you reply here, please place a talkback notification on my page. 21:24, 24 January 2010 (UTC)Hey folks! Glad you want to get involved. You can start writing the articles listed in the table below straight away - how about News & Notes, or In the News? Try to stick to the same style as previous editions. Links for finding news to write about can be found on our Resources page. Good luck! — Pretzels Hii! 20:01, 23 January 2010 (UTC)
- No worries; it was reasonable to infer from Pretzel's comment that you could jump in on any page. I have a somewhat large other page I am writing this week, so it's probably a plus that you can handle this page this week. I'll give it a look-over later to make sure all is in order if you would like, and if you have any other questions let me know. —Preceding unsigned comment added by seresin (talk • contribs)

- Hi Ben, I looked it over. Just a couple of things: you didn't seem to use the templates when you listed the features. These templates link to the nomination, and are just easier to use. You can find them in the source code for last week's article—(actually, you may find it easier to copy and paste last week's code and use that as a starting point). You also seem to have omitted Today's Featured Article, the daily featured picture, all the de-features, as well as a featured sound (thought I don't know if you're finished). Also, there was a successful RfB, so you will need to list that this week as well. ÷seresin 00:27, 25 January 2010 (UTC)

If you look at the prior week's report, you will see how the list of TFAs and picture of the day are formatted. You can find them here and here, respectively. here is the featured sound. Don't worry too much about getting anything wrong; it's a wiki and nobody is going to get angry if you need some time to figure it out. ÷seresin 01:42, 25 January 2010 (UTC)

Hi IBen, did you notice that you immediately slapped a bunch of tags on the new article only THREE MINUTES after it was created? Seems a bit hasty for a work in progress, it's a spinoff from a longer article and clearly needs some cleanup, but gosh, can't an editor have at least five minutes to take off the rough edges?? Trout slap! Montanabw(talk) 04:59, 24 January 2010 (UTC)
- I just swallowed the trout. :( In addition, the reason I tagged the page was so that the author know what they have to improve on.-- iBentalk/contribsIf you reply here, please place a talkback notification on my page. 05:03, 24 January 2010 (UTC)
- Let's try that again. I have been editing wikipedia for almost four years. I have multiple GAs and have helped on a couple FAs. I know how to write an article. So how about you give me a bit of time to work up an article before tagging it. You are creating edit conflicts. If you've just let me work, I suspect most of your objections will be addressed. Give it an hour and check back. Montanabw(talk) 05:11, 24 January 2010 (UTC)
- I feel that it is always helpful to get constructive criticism so you can improve. I understand your concern; you feel I should have given you more time to work. In the future, if you don't want people to comment, tag, etc. you should userfy the page.-- iBentalk/contribsIf you reply here, please place a talkback notification on my page. 22:49, 24 January 2010 (UTC)

- Obviously, but that's not the point here. I think that there is no need to tag something that is going to pass the deletionist criteria until it's clearly not going anywhere, which means not tagging it within three MINUTES of creation. I think there is a place to sandbox totally new articles, so I agree there, but here this was a spinoff from another article that has been relatively stable for over a year. Seemed silly to move it twice, and seemed not be be inviting massive tagging. I mean really, would it have hurt anything to wait a mere hour or so? You can always tag when things settle down a bit. I suppose there is something to be said for the {{underconstruction}} tag, but if I as an experienced editor with over 100 new articles (excluding disambigs and redirects) have felt rather discouraged in creating new articles in the past year, (I think I've started maybe three recently) imagine how a newcomer feels. I also recreated a previously deleted article a few weeks ago and was fighting prod tags for an hour and a half just trying to get the thing sourced! It now is accepted, but that was also a real gauntlet. I sympathize with the desire to make wiki better, but on the other hand, I wonder if we are getting too anal. (And I think of myself as REALLY anal, so if I think this is a problem, hmmm..) Well, food for thought. Montanabw(talk) 05:18, 25 January 2010 (UTC)
- A good tag would be {{underconstruction}} or {{inuse}}!-- iBentalk/contribsIf you reply here, please place a talkback notification on my page. 23:49, 25 January 2010 (UTC)

WikiProject Report
We'd love to have more writers for WikiProject Report. Spotlight looks to be inactive. Are you planning to revive it? I'm currently working on WP Dinosaurs for next week, although you can take over for me if you'd like. We're also planning on doing WP Olympics the week after to coincide with the start of the Winter Games in Vancouver, but we haven't decided who's writing it yet. After that article, it's pretty open. -Mabeenot (talk) 06:09, 25 January 2010 (UTC)
- I'm looking to revive it, yes. If you'd like to do it next week, go ahead, however, I would like to be the regular writer for the section. -- iBentalk/contribsIf you reply here, please place a talkback notification on my page. 23:52, 25 January 2010 (UTC)
- RegentsPark and I were planning to take turns with the WikiProject Report and I thought you might like to be part of the rotation. It's a lot of work to do all the reports every week and the few editors who tried typically got burnt-out after just a couple months (see the archive). I was talking with RegentsPark earlier today and he was considering doing the WP Olympics report but he hasn't started it yet. If you'd like to take it be sure to talk to him about it. Otherwise, you could definitely do WP Spotlight for publication in the February 15 Signpost. -Mabeenot (talk) 01:08, 26 January 2010 (UTC)
- A rotation sounds good. That means we each can have a couple of weeks to put our articles together. It might be good to have a generic (but customizable) {{WP:POST/INTERVIEW}} template for easier interviewing. I could work on this; I'm good at building templates. I don't represent WP Spotlight, just came across it and thought it might make a good article about real time collaboration.-- iBentalk/contribsIf you reply here, please place a talkback notification on my page. 01:12, 26 January 2010 (UTC)
- A template would be great! In case you haven't seen it yet, there is a backlog of WikiProject Report suggestions which includes someone requesting an article on Spotlight dating back to May 2008. Feel free to do an article on Spotlight and I hope you're successful in reviving it. Let me know if you need any help writing interview questions. -Mabeenot (talk) 01:18, 26 January 2010 (UTC)
- I just started a draft template (Wikipedia:Wikipedia Signpost/Newsroom/Interview). It'll end up being a ton more complex with ifs and stuff like that but it's a start. -- iBentalk/contribsIf you reply here, please place a talkback notification on my page. 01:28, 26 January 2010 (UTC)

AFD discussion
Hello, i would like to add this comment on the discussion regarding the Article http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Ekram_Alam but i'm not quite sure how to to it. I strongly believe that this page should be deleted, as i find it offensive that someone would make a page containing fraudulent claims.
Delete: I do not feel that there are enough reliable sources cited, meaning that this article is in breach of Wikipedia guidelines. It ought to be deleted so that Wikipedia doesn't lose it's status as a valuable source of information, because this article is little more than poppycock.

Fair Use Licence for File:IPad_Screenshot.jpg
Firstly, I found this template for adding a message to your userpage quite cumbersome. I don't want to inflame nerves, but perhaps a more standardized approach would be nice. However, this isn't really mine to determine. I am really here because I noted that you uploaded the file File:IPad_Screenshot.jpg which although had fair use rationale did not have a fair use template. I added one, but when uploading an image be sure to select a licence from the drop down menu. Thanks :)

I recently removed a speedy delete tag that you had placed on 7th INTERNATIONAL ADILIA ALIEVA PIANO COMPETITION. I do not think that 7th INTERNATIONAL ADILIA ALIEVA PIANO COMPETITION fits any of the speedy deletion criteria because It is not patent nonsense, it is written in French. WP:CSD#G1 says "This excludes poor writing, partisan screeds, obscene remarks, implausible theories, vandalism and hoaxes, fictional material, coherent non-English material, and poorly translated material." Please be more careful in the use of CSD tags, particularly "Patent nonsense" which is actually fairly rare in my experience. Thank you. I request that you consider not re-tagging 7th INTERNATIONAL ADILIA ALIEVA PIANO COMPETITION for speedy deletion without discussing the matter on the appropriate talk page. - Google Translate works well for translating but really can mess up.--iBentalk/contribs 22:15, 7 February 2010 (UTC)
- Best to just tag it. Do a Google or Babelfish if you're deciding notability or spam level. Mind you, I've tagged things in Indonesian and Russian as spam - you get a feel for it. Usually someone who does know the language will spot it and know what to do. Machine translators can't cope with idiom - 'going hell for leather' is meaningless when translated literally into any other language. 'Vous êtes orfèvre, M. Josse' literally means 'you are a goldsmith, M Josse', but translates as 'there is nothing like leather', and means the person addressed is thinking particularly in his own special trade. See what I mean? Peridon (talk) 22:28, 7 February 2010 (UTC)

- As I said, literally it does. If you were actually talking to a M Josse, who had forgotten that he was a goldsmith, OK. If you're talking to M Desgranges, who is a policeman, then no. The standard translation (by humans) is 'there is nothing like leather', but that itself is virtually meaningless now, as English has moved on and that idiom isn't used much, if at all. (It was very dated when I was doing my French at 'A' level, just after we'd got off the ark. (We stowed away - that's why you won't find Peridon in the Bible...)) - The "tag" option of the "friendly" gadget includes the {{notenglish}} tag. But i would say tha the tool is to assist the editor, not to be the editor. If you don't know the meanign of a tag that your tool will issue you should not use it. If you don't know the limits of the WPL:CSD -- and most of them have quite strict limits -- you shouild learn them before doing CSD tagging. in particualr, A1 "Patent nonsense" means one of two things: a) random keystrokes like "dshshewofen fwej"; b) words that make no sense at all "mission the jackhammer harp over all igloos absit omen notwithstanding catnaps". If you can figure out what it is intended to mean, whether it is poor writing or a bad article or not, it isn't patent nonsense. A7 is also over used - any plausible claim of importance, whether supported by refs or not, and whether it rises to notability or not, is enough to avoid an A7. Text not in english should be tagged as described above, unless you are sure enough of the translation top tag as spam or whatever. if you used a machine translation to tag, I would post it to the talk page. Faith Church Move
You moved the article "Faith Church St. Louis" to "Faith Church (St. Louis)". What was your rationale? The church's full name is "Faith Church St. Louis". Please move it back if you did not have a proper rationale for moving that article. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Agil314 (talk • contribs) 21:43, 8 February 2010 (UTC)

igloo
Hi IBen, and thanks for your interest in igloo. Before using the program, please read the following information carefully - failure to do so may result in your test access being revoked.
igloo is a JavaScript-powered, browser-based anti-vandalism tool, which means you do not have to download or install anything on your computer and it will work on multiple operating systems. However, it does mean that the performance relies on that of your browser and it may operate more slowly than downloaded programs. You must have either Mozilla Firefox 3+ or Google Chrome to use igloo, as it is currently incompatible with other browsers.
igloo relies on a system called iglooNet to assist you in finding and reverting vandalism. It is this system that transforms the program from a pretty version of recent changes to an actual anti-vandalism tool. Naturally, this is beyond the power of a client-side program, and igloo will regularly communicate with an external, non-Wikimedia server. Because of things like server logs, and the iglooNet abuse tracker, this may allow your IP address to be attached to your username - something which is otherwise impossible on Wikipedia. If you do not want this to happen, you MUST NOT USE IGLOO.
If you decide that you do want to test igloo, please keep in mind that it not wholly stable, and you may experience problems where it performs an invalid edit, or other unwanted action. If this happens, fix any mistakes you've made, apologise to anyone you've offended, and let me know. I don't take any responsibility for your use of the program - if you aren't willing to fix any errors, don't use it.
igloo is already quite powerful. The following is a simple guide to using the program:
- The igloo interface is similar to that of other software, including huggle. Recent changes appear on the left, and diffs appear on the right.
- igloo sorts diffs based on iglooNet data so that edits most likely to be vandalism are displayed first. You can press spacebar to view the top diff, or click on any diff to view it directly.
- When you find vandalism, press 'Q' or click the revert button to revert the change, and issue a warning to the user. igloo automatically issues the correct warning. It will ignore existing warnings that are more than 5 days old, and restart from the beginning.
- The iglooNet assertion system tags clean and dirty edits with colour coding - if it suspects an edit is vandalism, it will be flagged as red, and if it believes it to be clean, it will tag it green.
- At any time, you can re-review diffs you have already seen by pressing backspace or using the icons to move through the diff history.
If you have any questions, comments, suggestions or other feedback, I'd love to know. If you hate it, and won't be using it again, please let me know why - and I'll remove you from the test whitelist. If you now try and use igloo, you should find that it will allow you to use the program. Thanks, and good luck! Ale_Jrbtalk 10:02, 8 February 2010 (UTC)

Apology
I am very sorry. I thought the tags were someone trying to vandilize wikipedia! Can you please edit this article (BestOnlineGamesEver) to make it not nominated for speedy deletion. Can you make it some important signifiagance? I made this article because i saw a article called addictinggames so i wanted to make a article just like it. Should this article be nominated for speedy deletion because it has no important signifigance? Dragonox488 (talk) 01:12, 9 February 2010 (UTC)
- Unfortunately, as you know, this article has been deleted multiple times. Usually, you shouldn't recreate an article more than once or an administrator will lock it. If you would like to "testify" against a speedy deletion claim, add {{hangon}} below the speedy deletion notice and explain why on the talk page. If you have any questions, please ask me!-- iBentalk/contribs 18:08, 9 February 2010 (UTC)
Your speedy deletion nomination of Portuguese foods
I have declined your recent speedy deletion nomination of Portuguese foods (for which you gave criterion A10) because "Portuguese foods" is an entirely plausible search term and has now been redirected to the most relevant article, Portuguese cuisine. The article Portuguese foods did not satisfy criterion A10 because it was not a substantial duplicate of the page "Portuguese cuisine" (by "substantial duplicate", copy-paste is what is generally meant). In addition, the page title was not an implausible redirect, as is also required for A10 deletion. An example of a page that would be eligible for A10 deletion, just to give you an idea, would be a page with a title something like "My article" or "What is the sun?", containing a complete copy-paste of the article "Sun". Thank you for trying to help in New Pages Patrol—please be a bit more careful in the future, so as to avoid mistaken taggings such as this one. Cheers, Intelligentsium 02:09, 9 February 2010 (UTC)

Tenure
Good afternoon. I was reviewing your userpage and noticed that you have a userbox stating that you have been on Wikipedia for over 4 years; however, your log indicates that you created your account on August 18, 2009, which is less than seven months ago. Would you mind clarifying? GlassCobra 17:08, 9 February 2010 (UTC)
- That's odd. --iBentalk/contribs 17:45, 9 February 2010 (UTC)
- I see. I didn't set the date that I started so the userbox defaulted to the "4 years". See below:--iBentalk/contribs 17:48, 9 February 2010 (UTC)

WikiProject Desk
Hi iBen. Pretzels set up a new workspace for us at the Signpost called the WikiProject Desk. The suggestions section, schedule chart, and discussions have all been relocated there. When you're finished with the interview template, we can create a reusable subpage for conducting interviews. Cheers! -Mabeenot (talk) 18:59, 9 February 2010 (UTC)
- Great! I'm about to start interviewing someone, so I'll get working on the template. -- iBentalk/contribs 19:00, 9 February 2010 (UTC)
I removed this speedy tag on this one, too, as it generates 137,000 Ghits. I'm working on sorting out the backlog at CAT:CSD, and keep running into you, but not on purpose, LOL. Thanks for trying to get rid of the cruft here. Bearian (talk) 21:48, 9 February 2010 (UTC)
Hidden
There's no point to hidden pages. Every subpage of your userspace is listed via Special:PrefixIndex/User:IBen/, and I spotted yours in the newpages log.
We're not here to be a playground. You can do a lot of stuff with your userspace, but not absolutely anything.
And the whole idea to Wikipedia is to make information easier to find.
Understand now? DS (talk) 22:07, 9 February 2010 (UTC)
- However, what about the other users who have hidden pages? In addition, "As of January 2010, there is no policy expressly allowing or forbidding users to have secret page challenges, nor to attempt the challenge or collect a reward." This is the
officialpolicy at Wikipedia:Secret pages. Please don't delete it in the future, especially without notifying me. Thank you!-- iBentalk/contribs 23:37, 9 February 2010 (UTC)- No, it's a user essay. Read the top please. "Please remember not to cite essays or proposals as if they were policy." And you realize that Wikipedia is not MySpace, right? Forget the secret pages and go write an article. Btw, "Possible" is not a valid rationale in File:Google Buzz Screenshot.png. If it is replaceable, then it should not be used under fair use. Otherwise, say that it is not. fetchcomms☛ 01:29, 10 February 2010 (UTC)

I'm curious about why you would revert this article being redirected. I can't say that there's much chance of that article every being properly sourced or even notable enough to warrant a stand alone article. Seeing as how the majority of articles related to Percy Jackson only use primary sources, perhaps a better use of your time would be sourcing them because they'll likely be redirected as well. I note that there are only about 2500 google hits for stygian iron, zero on google news, zero from the google news archive, five on google books (none related to the Percy Jackson series), and two on google scholar. Do you really think you'll be able to source this article? If not, let the redirect stand. AniMate 02:14, 11 February 2010 (UTC)

The Tea Leaf - Issue One - Recent news from the Teahouse
Hi! Welcome to the first edition of The Tea Leaf, the official newsletter of the Teahouse!
- Metrics are out from week one. Week one showed that the need for Teahouse hosts to invite new editors to the Teahouse is urgent for this pilot period. It also showed that emailing new users invitations is a powerful tool, with new editors responding more to emails than to talk page templates. We also learned that the customized database reports created for the Teahouse have the highest return rate of participation by invitees. Check out the metrics here and see how you can help with inviting in our Invitation Guide.
- A refreshed "Your hosts" page encourages experienced Wikipedians to learn about the Teahouse and participate. With community input, the Teahouse has updated the Your hosts page which details the host roles within the Teahouse pilot and the importance that hosts play in providing a friendly, special experience not always found on other welcome/help spaces on Wikipedia. It also explains how Teahouse hosts are important regarding metrics reporting during this pilot. Are you an experienced editor who wants to help out? Take a look at the new page today and start learning about the hosts tasks and how you can participate!
- Introduce yourself and meet new guests at the Teahouse. Take the time to welcome and get to know the latest guests at the Teahouse. New & experienced editors to Wikipedia can add a brief infobox about themselves and get to know one another with direct links to userpages. Drop off some wikilove to these editors today, they'll surely be happy to feel the wikilove!
