Conventions
Almost coincidentally, I was in the middle of writing a note to you. I'll respond to your note at my talk page shortly.
I'm struggling with a process question. In my mind, green means good and red means not good, yet the symbols are used in almost the opposite sense. A red x means nothing problematic found and green means a problem found, which is counterintuitive, but acceptable. However, when you clean something, so it is now OK, you mark it with a green check, and when you blank it and report it to copyright problems, it also gets a green check. This means that red means OK, and green might mean OK except when it doesn't. Can we come up with something better?--SPhilbrickT 22:47, 17 November 2011 (UTC)

Copyright question
Hi! I'm a newbie at WP:SCV and I'm hoping to can help me with a query in relation to the probable backwards copy of various individual Gun Laws by State articles such as those for Gun laws in North Carolina and Gun laws in North Dakota which were picked up by CSB on 21 December. Checking back through the history of these pages, the main article and the User Talk Page, I see that this has come up before and there are various statements that it is known that the text at [1] is a backwards copy. But I don't see any attribution on the external site nor the evidence for the backwards recorded anywhere. The best I've come up with is this diff from one of your edit summaries and so I though best to ask you whether the conclusion should be recorded more visibly on the discussion pages of those articles to help inform editors in the future? Of course it's entirely possible that I've missed something obvious, in which case, please don't hesitate to point this out.--CharlieDelta (talk) 10:05, 31 December 2011 (UTC)

Hi Hut. Thank you for closing AfDs. When redirecting as you did http://wiki.riteme.site/w/index.php?title=%C3%89cole_Beaubassin&action=history here], please remember to include the {{R from school}} - it populates an important category that is used for statistics. SCV
I took on the task of providing a second review of SCV articles reviewed by Katarighe. Others have been pitching in as well, notably Hurricanefan25 and CharlieDelta, but I ran into more than I can handle on 12-23 and 12-24.
- Gun laws in South Carolina, I think this is reverse copyvio, see this discussion. I'd like another opinion
- Hut8.5 provided this helpful analysis demonstrating evidence of the backwards copy when I asked the same question about Gun laws in North Carolina. The whole batch of these split pages should probably have a backwards copy tag on their talk pages.--CharlieDelta (talk) 06:47, 10 January 2012 (UTC)
- Yes, I've seen this case before and I think we can be pretty sure it's reverse copyvio. Hut 8.5 09:54, 10 January 2012 (UTC)

- Nehru Cup International Football Tournament 1984 - I feel moderately confident that while the content is copied, it isn't a copyvio, as it is practically a list.I removed the only content with editorial structure. Is it OK now?
- The only common content remaining now is sports results and team listings which aren't copyrighted. I think it's somehow possible to copyright the way the information is presented so I suggest cleaning up the formatting (which someone ought to do anyway). Hut 8.5 09:54, 10 January 2012 (UTC)
- Ii (IRC client) has some interesting issues which I reported to MRG here.

- Twelve Dreams The CSBot site identified a NYT site, but I don't have a subscription to check it.

Protection in bible template Nkjv
Hello!
I was trying to "standartize" the bible templates that exist in the "Category:Bible external link templates", and came across more templates which weren't in this category.
The "standartize" procedures that I made can be seen, for example, in Template:Esv and Template:Esv/doc, basically:
- create documentation subpage, if it doesn't exists, by moving the description content in the main page to the new documentation subpage;
- add the category info "Category:Bible external link templates", if it doesn't exist;
- raise awareness to the existing discussion on Wikipedia, by using an info message at the beginning of the documentation subpage.
So far, Template:Nkjv is the only template that I came across, to which I cannot do these procedures (mainly, create the documentation subpage and move the description content in the main template article to the documentation article).
Therefore, I would like for you to:
- either unprotect the page, and message to me, so I can make the changes;
- or "do it yourself" the changes that I have done (basically, the same changes that I have made in the Esv template and its /doc pages)
Thank you, in advance! Mrmagoo2006 (talk) 04:16, 3 February 2012 (UTC)
- UPDATE: I read your message, and proceed in doing the above changes. I am done. You can protect it again, if you want to.Mrmagoo2006 (talk) 02:02, 19 February 2012 (UTC)
Bullets at AFD
Hi, all the bullets at the global warming AFD make it VERY hard to follow. IMO, bullets should be for your keep/delete declaration. Subsequent back and forth dialogue should just be indented with colons, and NOT asterisks. Please consider tweaking your dialogue comments to help clean up the AFD discussion. I'd do it myself, but I just got chastised for a an ill-considered but well-intended crossing of the line when refactoring. NewsAndEventsGuy (talk) 19:53, 10 February 2012 (UTC)
MSU Interview
Dear Hut 8.5,
My name is Jonathan Obar user:Jaobar, I'm a professor in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences at Michigan State University and a Teaching Fellow with the Wikimedia Foundation's Education Program. This semester I've been running a little experiment at MSU, a class where we teach students about becoming Wikipedia administrators. Not a lot is known about your community, and our students (who are fascinated by wiki-culture by the way!) want to learn how you do what you do, and why you do it. A while back I proposed this idea (the class) to the community HERE, where it was met mainly with positive feedback. Anyhow, I'd like my students to speak with a few administrators to get a sense of admin experiences, training, motivations, likes, dislikes, etc. We were wondering if you'd be interested in speaking with one of our students.
So a few things about the interviews:
- Interviews will last between 15 and 30 minutes.
- Interviews can be conducted over skype (preferred), IRC or email. (You choose the form of communication based upon your comfort level, time, etc.)
- All interviews will be completely anonymous, meaning that you (real name and/or pseudonym) will never be identified in any of our materials, unless you give the interviewer permission to do so.
- All interviews will be completely voluntary. You are under no obligation to say yes to an interview, and can say no and stop or leave the interview at any time.
- The entire interview process is being overseen by MSU's institutional review board (ethics review). This means that all questions have been approved by the university and all students have been trained how to conduct interviews ethically and properly.
Bottom line is that we really need your help, and would really appreciate the opportunity to speak with you. If interested, please send me an email at obar@msu.edu (to maintain anonymity) and I will add your name to my offline contact list. If you feel comfortable doing so, you can post your name HERE instead.
If you have questions or concerns at any time, feel free to email me at obar@msu.edu. I will be more than happy to speak with you.
Thanks in advance for your help. We have a lot to learn from you.
Sincerely,
Jonathan Obar --Jaobar (talk) 07:01, 12 February 2012 (UTC)

Erroneous deletion of Wiki page: Danny_Lopez_(British_Consul-General)
Dear Hut 8.5:
This is Patricia Summers, the Press Officer at the British Consulate-General in New York. I'm writing to contest your erroneous deletion of the page for "Danny_Lopez_(British_Consul-General)" (http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Danny_Lopez_(British_Consul-General).
The deletion claim on the page alleges that this article committed copyright infringment because it contained identical text to the official biography listed on the Consul-General's website: http://ukinusa.fco.gov.uk/en/about-us/other-locations/ny/our-consul-general/biography)
This was not copyright infringement because I am the author of this official biography, and I created this Wiki page. Concurrently, this text's copyright belongs to the British Consulate, and I am the media spokesperson. There is no copyright infringement because I composed the text. If the Wiki page needs to acknowledge the official site's biography page as a source, that's fine, but please restore the page accordingly.
Should you have any questions, please contact me at my official email address: patricia.summers@fco.gov.uk.
Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.9.43.50 (talk) 23:39, 9 March 2012 (UTC)

Company Page
Hi, my boss asked me to create a posting for our company, Commetrex. I did so and posted it this afternoon. Upon searching for it, however, I stumbled across some info indicating that our company had posted a page in 2008 and that you had deleted. I did my best in this new posting to be objective and deleted a lot of the claims that my boss had written. Is the new page, posted 3/14/12, on hold for review or is it automatically flagged for deletion since it was deleted in the past? I need to provide some answers to my boss. CSD: Pages which have survived deletion discussions
Hi. You participated in the G4 RfC, including the last section WT:Criteria for speedy deletion/Archive 44#G4: Moving forward, and you started WT:Criteria for speedy deletion#Pages which have survived deletion discussions, which removed "generally". Do you object to any of the other changes (diff including a few unrelated edits)? Fuhghettaboutit has already expressed dissatisfaction with the placement of the footnote. Flatscan (talk) 04:08, 3 April 2012 (UTC)
- I don't really have an opinion on whether the addition should be in a footnote or in the main body of the text. I do see that a footnote is what Cunard suggested but it doesn't make a great deal of difference. Hut 8.5 09:00, 3 April 2012 (UTC)

Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response
Since you've managed to get the article on ASMR deleted with lies and bureaucracy, I thought you might like to fix it by helping create the new article. Obviously, the dozens of sources about a single noteworthy topic need to be collected in an article. Do you have any suggestions on how to go about this? 62.254.76.153 (talk) 20:50, 15 May 2012 (UTC)

- I did reply, I replied on your talk page within 15 minutes. As I say at the top of the page, "I will respond on your talk page unless you request otherwise". I note you're still making ill-informed accusations of bad faith - I have never deleted the ASMR page, so even if I was purely doing this to raise my deletion count I would be wasting my time. Deletion of Lexham (disambiguation)
Okay, you're right, I did rant in a way that was unnecessary...and particularly, as you mention, about an action that took place over a year ago. Where did the time go?
I was out of line for such an over-reaction and owe you an apology.
If it is okay with you, we'll just start over fresh.
Thank you for the link to wikipedia guidelines. I don't guess I was very familiar with the concept of a "hatnote"--at least it wasn't the first option that had jumped in my mind. But I see that it is the recommended course, and when I read this now, if I am understanding what is being described, I think that is what I did insert at the point of the broken link.
Also, and as you suggest, this is quicker for users than a clicking over to a disambiguation page and then once more to an article.
Incidently, the publisher is making multiple titles with the word "Lexham," but most are for a specialized group of scholarly users, and will not likely be needed by the general audience here, but can be mentioned under the existing article (and for that matter one is already mentioned on their software system's page).
Speaking of recommended courses, though, I thought it was once procedural to pull up "What links here?" under the "Toolbox" to the left of the screen before deleting any page on wikipedia. Today, I cannot find in the guidelines that it is still recommended, which is confusing. Why would wikipedia want articles deleted and leave broken links throughout?
Since wikipedia content is changing moment by moment, like the whole "[you could not step twice into the same river]," do administrators approach this, for lack of a better term, sort of like Blitzkrieg, by "concentrating overwhelming force at high speed to break through enemy lines [i.e. by going ahead and just deleting an article], and, once the lines are broken, proceeding without regard to its flank [i.e. keep working on other articles without tidying up such things as a list of broken links]"?
I am curious about this, for I see broken links all over wikipedia. How many errant links, whether guessing and hopeful--or with possible future intent to create the article--are inserted, and how many are the result of deleted articles where no cleanup followed?
I see on your page that some editing statistics are machine-generated, and perhaps I am asking you to guess or predict something that no one or no machine has or can generate (especially where intent is concerned), but what is the policy with regard to article deletion and using "What links here?"
Otherwise, thank you for the thankless job you do here, I use wikipedia all the time in my reading--I'm always tripping on some concept that I need a few hints about, and wikipedia rarely fails to give me a quick, informative gist and get me right back on track--and when I see something I think will help others in the same way, I try to smooth it out all the same for them.
I obviously didn't do such a hot job of "smoothing this one out," however, so I ask you to please accept my apology. grubbmeister (talk) 09:50, 23 July 2012 (UTC)
