Proposed deletion of The Very First Time
[edit]The article The Very First Time has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- Fails notability guide for songs and general notability guide. Effectively completely unsourced as the one given merely directs to a current playlist.
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Egghead06 (talk) 05:40, 13 April 2016 (UTC)

Switching your uploads
[edit]I want to replace the Japanese single release with the US one, which... has a generic sleeve. Nevertheless, I think I was wrong about not using the US image; both singers are Americans nationally. I did replace the UK image because I somehow preferred the picture of artists in front covers. However, when I made such edits on Easy Lover, I realize that a picture of a singer on the front cover is not necessary, but a picture sleeve or a side label would be enough. I saw your name as the original uploader, but that was the UK image before I replaced it. I think maybe I should contact you first before I make a move. Allow me to replace the Japanese picture sleeve with the US side label then? --George Ho (talk) 01:09, 5 June 2016 (UTC)
I want to replace this European cover with the American one. Can you let me? --George Ho (talk) 03:53, 5 June 2016 (UTC)
I intend to replace this British image with the US side label, but I wonder whether you can allow me to do so. --George Ho (talk) 08:19, 5 June 2016 (UTC)
- @George Ho: I actually haven't revisited those articles/covers in quite some time, so do as you deem necessary, I suppose. My only comment would be that (to me) actual cover art would be somewhat preferable to generic vinyl labels – and in the case of the Bolton cover, a vinyl/CD issue would be a better suit given that those format covers are far more common in use throughout Wikipedia – but that's just a matter of personal preference, I guess. Holiday56 (talk) 16:27, 5 June 2016 (UTC)
- It's not a matter of personal preference. I would like to upload side labels and another cover as extras, but rules normally discourage having extras. On the other hand, per WP:IAR, I can upload them as extras and then put the covers up for deletion/discussion. Regarding the Bolton image, the Europeans receive the CD and vinyl artwork; the Americans, just the cassette promo CD. The US cassette image should reflect the release and Bolton's nationality (or birthplace, just in case). I believe that US side labels can help readers realize that the US releases generally did not have picture sleeves in vinyl singles before CD singles became popular in the 1990s.
You can disagree with me, but shall I replace your uploads, or shall I add them as extras and them put the images up for discussion at FFD?--George Ho (talk) 19:11, 5 June 2016 (UTC)

Hey Holiday56! I'm here to tell you that the article of Pitchfork Media has been changed to just Pitchfork (website), if you didn't know this information.
Anyway, keep up the good work on Wikipedia. I enjoy your edits in the critical reception section in music based articles. TheAmazingPeanuts (talk) 03:12, 20 July 2016 (UTC)
- Wasn't aware that the page had been moved or that there had been a RFC/consensus of sorts to move it. Considering that it's quite a prominent publication/article and "Pitchfork Media" still seems to be the de facto way of formatting it since the move happened fairly recently, I think I'll be holding off from making any large-scale changes for the time being, though others who format it as such can do as they wish, I guess. Thanks for the heads up and I appreciate the compliment. Holiday56 (talk) 13:02, 20 July 2016 (UTC)
- You're welcome. And if you're wonder who did the move, it was FamblyCat94, not me. TheAmazingPeanuts (talk) 08:25, 20 July 2016 (UTC)

Album ratings
[edit]I know if a reviewer awards something a rating of "4" (expressed in digits not starts) on a scale of 5, and you should simply write it as "4" or "4/5" in the article. However, publications like Tiny Mix Tapes use red dots and PopMatters use a scale of 10 stars instead of 5, these websites do have templates how to use them, but if I add these scores from these websites in the album review template, would that go against the guidelines? TheAmazingPeanuts (talk) 21:35, 20 December 2016 (UTC)
- I tend to put non-star image ratings in digit form, and this WikiProject consensus seemed to indicate that to be the agreed preference in order to avoid a potential decorative overuse of rating images only relevant to a rather small amount (if not one) of publications. I'm less sure of the agreed guideline for 10-star ratings but I tend to put them into digit form as well on account of potential accessibility/readability issues ("Note that ratings on a scale of 10 can be hard to read if expressed visually with images."). Cheers, Holiday56 (talk) 06:47, 21 December 2016 (UTC)
January 2017
[edit]Thank you for your contributions. Please mark your edits, such as your recent edits to Time's Up (Living Colour album), as "minor" only if they are minor edits. In accordance with Help:Minor edit, a minor edit is one that the editor believes requires no review and could never be the subject of a dispute. Minor edits consist of things such as typographical corrections, formatting changes or rearrangement of text without modification of content. Additionally, the reversion of clear-cut vandalism and test edits may be labeled "minor". Thank you. SummerPhDv2.0 14:45, 10 January 2017 (UTC)

Tubular Bells
[edit]Hi Holiday56, I've a small favour to ask of you. I'm in the process of expanding and updating the article for Tubular Bells, and wondered if you could please add the ratings for The Rolling Stone Album Guide and The Encyclopedia of Popular Music, if the album is included in them. At present the article doesn't have a "critical reception" section, but that's something I'm working on in the update. You can wait until the updated article goes live (hopefully sometime during the next week) or feel free leave a note on my talk page telling me what they are, but I just wanted to give you a heads up that it would be good to get a few more entries in the album rating template for this album. Thank you very much. Richard3120 (talk) 22:48, 23 July 2017 (UTC)
- No problem – Q and Encyclopedia of Popular Music reviews added to the page; Oldfield has no entry in the 2004 Rolling Stone Album Guide. Will try to add more if I can stumble across any more reviews (I presume the 2009 reissue must have had been reviewed in Mojo and/or Uncut, for instance). Cheers! Holiday56 (talk) 02:52, 24 July 2017 (UTC)
- Thanks so much for that – I agree, there probably are other reviews for 2009, and possibly in 2000 as well... this is when the HDCD release came out, hence the Q review that year. I can get hold of Mojo in the British Library, but Uncut is a little trickier to find. What I'd really like to find the next time I'm in the BL are the original reviews from 1973/74 in NME, Melody Maker and Sounds, and possibly in Rolling Stone if there was one, although I don't think the library's collection of RS is very comprehensive from that era. Richard3120 (talk) 04:57, 24 July 2017 (UTC)
- Here's the link to the RS review from 1974 – not a terribly substantial write-up but it'll have to suffice, I suppose. Holiday56 (talk) 10:03, 24 July 2017 (UTC)
- Thank you - no, it's not very detailed, but I didn't really expect anything else: unless it was Elton John or solo projects by the ex-Beatles members, Rolling Stone wasn't paying much attention to any music coming out of the UK at that time, and they always viewed Tubular Bells as a one-off novelty. Richard3120 (talk) 13:17, 24 July 2017 (UTC)
- Update: aha, no, I've just found Paul Gambaccini's original Rolling Stone review of the album in the issue dated 8 November 1973, and it's much more detailed, at over 500 words. Richard3120 (talk) 17:37, 24 July 2017 (UTC)

Hi Holiday56, I was wondering if you'd be interested in co-nominating the Robot Hall of Fame at WP:FLC? You're the most active principal editor and I'm just about to tidy it up and ensure it's good to go, but wanted to invite you to co-nominate it? The Rambling Man (talk) 09:58, 1 August 2017 (UTC)
- Wow, I'd totally forgotten about this; seems like the article hasn't been touched in quite some time since my last edits. Probably needs some sprucing and tidying up here and there but I'd be fine co-nominating it, I appreciate the invitation. Holiday56 (talk) 13:11, 10 August 2017 (UTC)
Cure genre's
[edit]Hi Holiday. What do you make of this edit as well as the others made by Woovee to Cure articles recently? He removes sourced genre's, replaces them with unsourced ones and then leaves an edit summary that reads as follows "these genres are widely established" or " this doesn't belong to the infox when one never puts references to support genres". When I reverted them, he quickly reverted me with this explanation. Am I missing something? Robvanvee 08:11, 9 August 2017 (UTC)
- I generally stray away from genre discussions and whatnot but my general take is that in the context of a site like Wikipedia these are best left to what's covered by actual reliable or critical sources; if user has any such sources to back up the (highly debatable) statement that these are "widely established" then by all means just cite those in the body of the article. Holiday56 (talk) 13:18, 10 August 2017 (UTC)
- OK cool, thanks. Robvanvee 15:30, 10 August 2017 (UTC)
