Conflict of interest

[edit]

If you have a close connection to some of the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest. In keeping with Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy, edits where there is a conflict of interest, or where such a conflict might reasonably be inferred from the tone of the edit and the proximity of the editor to the subject, are strongly discouraged. If you have a conflict of interest, you should avoid or exercise great caution when:

  1. editing or creating articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with;
  2. participating in deletion discussions about articles related to your organization or its competitors; and
  3. linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam).

Please familiarize yourself with relevant policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, verifiability of information, and autobiographies.

For information on how to contribute to Wikipedia when you have conflict of interest, please see our frequently asked questions for organizations. For more details about what, exactly, constitutes a conflict of interest, please see our conflict of interest guidelines. Thank you.

Please do not remove maintenance templates from pages on Wikipedia, as you did to Arthur Sarkissian (artist), without resolving the problem that the template refers to, or giving a valid reason for the removal in the edit summary. Your removal of this template does not appear constructive, and has been reverted. Thank you. TeapotgeorgeTalk 19:43, 23 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Arthur Sarkissian (artist)

[edit]

Hello, Henmor. I was looking at the article Arthur Sarkissian (artist) that you've done a lot of work on. I also read your question on Xqt's talk page.

When it says "This article needs references that appear in reliable third-party publications" it means that if somebody has a page on wikipedia, they should be notable or famous enough to be written about in good quality independent newspapers, magazines, books or websites - ones that the person has no connection with. So your reference (1) (Arthur Sarkissian Biography. 138-145p: Henrik Igityan "ARMENIAN PALETTE" New Generation.2005, ISBN 99941-0-140-4) is good, and so is the artnet reference. I suggest you could also cite http://www.gevorgyangallery.com/, possibly www.criticsforum.org/pdf/1201970293.pdf , http://www.globeweeklynews.com/what_is_an_armenian_art.htm and other similar sources - the more unbiased the better.

All the references to www.arthursarkissian.com show where the information is from, but they are not as valuable from an objective point of view. After all, anyone can write what they like about themselves on their own website.

As for the tag about conflict of interest, it was commenting on the fact that you may find it difficult to have a "neutral point of view" (essential on wikipedia) if you have a connection with Mr Sarkissian.

Remember that these tags are not addressed to you in particular. They are simply labelling the article to help the collaborative writing process to move forward. Other editors may see the tags (as I did) and do their own bit of editing to try to address the issues. Tags help us all to see what needs doing next. They are not an attack on you! I sometimes even tag articles I write because they need attention by somebody else.

I hope that you feel you would like to join in and edit some other articles, making necessary improvements and adding information and references. Thank you for your work so far. Regards, Hebrides (talk) 12:40, 25 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Images

[edit]

Hello again. Thought I'd drop you a note in case you haven't noticed. Have a look at the images you uploaded – there's a question over the licensing which needs to be done properly – otherwise they will get deleted from Wikipedia. Regards, Hebrides (talk) 05:26, 26 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your message. I've been doing some editing of the article (you probably noticed), and I've just looked at what you have done.

(1) Your recent addition. You cannot just copy material into wikipedia, as you did with the Art Critic section. The copyright of this is owned by someone else, and wikipedia is very strict about copyright. You can use your own words to write something that uses the ideas in this text, and then quote it as a source. I've removed it, because if I don't then somebody else will! Maybe you can write something in your own words, or if I have time I will try to do it.

(2) Conflict of interest. The only way around this is for other editors to play a part in writing this article. I am doing this, and when I have finished, I will remove the conflict of interest tag.

(3) Images. Wikipedia is very strict about image copyright. If an image is on wikipedia, it needs to have a suitable copyright license. Have a look at http://wiki.riteme.site/w/index.php?title=Special:Upload&uselang=en-withpermission which explains, "Wikipedia does not accept images that are licensed for "non-commercial" use, licensed only to Wikipedia, for which permission is required for reuse, or that do not permit derivative works to be created. There are several reasons for this policy, but the short version is that Wikipedia's mission is to provide free content and having images encumbered by restrictive licensing schemes runs counter to that mission. However, images which are released into the public domain or released under a free license, such as the GFDL or an appropriate Creative Commons license can be used."

For the purposes of Wikipedia, a "free license" means one that permits anyone to reuse the image for any reason, including commercial purposes.

You can only use images if the copyright owner is prepared for everybody to be able to re-use the images - even to make money from re-using them. The details are on that web page about uploading, and it also tells you how to give the necessary permissions if the artist is prepared to do so.

Hope that helps. Hebrides (talk) 10:32, 26 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Ani Batikian requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words.

If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Hello. Concerning your contribution, Ani Batikian, please note that Wikipedia cannot accept copyrighted text or images obtained from other web sites or printed material, without the permission of the author(s). This article or image appears to be a direct copy from http://www.anibatikian.com/. As a copyright violation, Ani Batikian appears to qualify for deletion under the speedy deletion criteria. Ani Batikian has been tagged for deletion, and may have been deleted by the time you see this message.

If you believe that the article or image is not a copyright violation, or if you have permission from the copyright holder to release the content freely under the Creative Commons Attribution/Share-Alike License (CC-BY-SA) then you should do one of the following:

However, for textual content, you may simply consider rewriting the content in your own words. While we appreciate contributions, we must require all contributors to understand and comply with our copyright policy. Wikipedia takes copyright concerns very seriously, and persistent violators will be blocked from editing. Thank you. Kingpin13 (talk) 18:48, 1 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Same as above message from Teapotgeorge, please put this article into your own words, rather than those which are copyrighted. As it is this article is nearly an exact copy. - Kingpin13 (talk) 18:48, 1 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, I see you noted on he page that you plan to re-write, that's really great. Some tips I'd give is look up more sources (her personal website is not reliable, or independent, so you shouldn;t use that as a source). Then read all of the sources through, and then just begin writing! Go back to the sources if you need reminding of stuff, but make sure that every single word is written by you, and is not a copy of the source. I also find a thesaurus helpful if I'm having difficulty thinking of a different word to use. HTH, - Kingpin13 (talk) 20:15, 1 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

All material needs to come from reliable secondary sources, and to be cited. See WP:REFB. Otherwise opinion and evaluation is not allowed. Ty 18:29, 10 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Cleanup - see article talk page. Dates need to be chronological with earliest first. Do that, and you can remove the tag. Also your signature goes after talk page posts, not at the beginning of them. Ty 19:23, 10 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I've done it for the solo shows. Put in date order, change double apostrophe to two single apostrophes to produce italics for show titles (or highlight and use the italic tab on the toolbar above the edit box). Ty 06:19, 11 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
