Welcome!

[edit]

Hello, Helix Carbon, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.

I noticed that one of the first articles you edited appears to be dealing with a topic with which you may have a conflict of interest. In other words, you may find it difficult to write about that topic in a neutral and objective way, because you are, work for, or represent, the subject of that article. Your recent contributions may have already been undone for this very reason.

To reduce the chances of your contributions being undone, you might like to draft your revised article before submission, and then ask me or another editor to proofread it. See our help page on userspace drafts for more details. If the page you created has already been deleted from Wikipedia, but you want to save the content from it to use for that draft, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page.

One rule we do have in connection with conflicts of interest is that accounts used by more than one person will unfortunately be blocked from editing. Wikipedia generally does not allow editors to have usernames which imply that the account belongs to a company or corporation. If you have a username like this, you should request a change of username or create a new account. (A name that identifies the user as an individual within a given organization may be OK.)

In addition, if you receive, or expect to receive, compensation for any contribution you make, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation to comply with our terms of use and our policy on paid editing.

Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your messages on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. If you need help, visit the Teahouse, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question on this page and then place {{Help me}} before the question. Again, welcome! Hi! Thanks for reviewing the draft so quickly- I had the feeling it would not stand up to scrutiny.. Is it possible at all to create a wikipedia article with little or no third party references? There is a fairly large, international community around Helix Carbon GmbH, but the overlap with people knowledgeable in the ways of wikipedia is probably close to nonexistent. I myself have no idea what I'm doing. I just want to create the most basic of articles- just a few facts / company history.. that sort of thing. Unfortunately, I can only find references to Helix on social media or from the Helix website. How would I even get started with something like this? Cheers! A company isn't entitled to have a Wikipedia article simply because it exists. If no sources exist about this company that are both reliable (has an established reputation for fact-checking and editorial oversight) and independent (has no personal, political of financial interest in the company), then this company simply isn't notable enough for inclusion. We have no interest in what a company wishes to say about itself. We care only about what other third-party sources have chosen to write about it on their own, without any inducement. --Drm310 🍁 (talk) 16:11, 21 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I have a stack of aviation magazines here with articles, blurbs, etc about Helix- but they are just that- magazines. I don't know how to link to them. As far as I can tell, they are not online. What is online, is a whole mess of dealer websites selling Helix products, and a large community on social media- both of which are, as I understand, not accepted by wikipedia.
Actually, the more I dig around online, the more I am finding.. For example, the university FH Aachen has several articles mentioning Helix, as does the "Future Lab Aachen" (whatever that is).. and Helix is listed as a certified Lärmmessstellen (noise test facility) by the Luftfahrt-Bundesamt (the avaiation regulatory body in Germany). Researchgate.net mentions Helix in a study on Inflight Transition of a Propeller from Propulsion to Regeneration Mode (whatever that means). RWTH (another university) mentions helix in an article about electric aircraft... and the Federal Ministry of Education and Research in Germany has a post / article about Helix regarding electric turbofan something something...
All of this I would have found, and cited, had I been given more than two minutes before being banned and having my IP address blocked when I tried to change my username (as was requested in the initial ban). I am new to Wikipedia- This is my first attempt at contributing. I believe there is an article on wikipedia titled "please do not bit the newcomers".. I feel as though I have been bitten.
Please advise me on how I should proceed from here. Helix Carbon (talk) 08:56, 22 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Your account name is the first issue that must be resolved. As the block notice below says, you must place the following code at the bottom of this page:
{{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}}
Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with your new username and replace the text "Your reason here" with your reasons to be unblocked.
I'd advise that you review Wikipedia's username policy before choosing a new name. Accounts are meant for individuals, and cannot represent companies, organizations or groups of people. The account name must therefore reflect individual use.
You must also state whether you represent this company. If you do, then you must review the conflict of interest guidelines and paid editing disclosure policy, and make the necessary disclosures. Even if you don't represent the company, it's worth reading to understand why Wikipedia is so strict about demanding transparency from users that are affiliated with the subjects they write about.
Assuming that your unblock is successful, then reviewing Help:Your first article is a good starting point. This contains advice on how to find sources that are considered reliable, independent, and have significant coverage of the topic. That includes sources that are offline, such as books, magazines and newspapers. --Drm310 🍁 (talk) 12:15, 22 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I saw that- and thought, instead of changing just the username which is still linked to a questionable email address, i would just sign up for a personal account with my personal email address and name, etc.. that's apparently when the IP block happened. I can go ahead and request a username change- but i think it still makes more sense- especially from wikipedia's point of view- if i just scrap the questionable account altogether and sign up for an account with my name / address, right? either way- i'll put in the unblock / username change request right now. Your account has been indefinitely blocked from editing because it has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia. Also, your username gives the impression that the account represents a business, organisation, group, or web site, which is against the username policy.

If you intend to make useful contributions instead of promoting your business or organization, you may request unblock and a username change. In your reasons, you must follow all these steps:

  1. Disclose any compensation you may receive for your contributions in accordance with the paid-contribution disclosure requirement; and
  2. Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked; and
  3. Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked; and
  4. Provide a new username.

To do this, insert the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with your new username and replace the text "Your reason here" with your reasons to be unblocked.

Please note that the new username you choose cannot already be taken and in use by another account. You can search to see if the username you'd like to choose is available. If the search returns that no global account with that username exists, that means it is still available.

Appeals: If, after reviewing the guide to appealing blocks, you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal it by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your reason here" with the reasons you believe the block was an error, and publish the page. Alexf(talk) 09:07, 20 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

That would be fine as a new username, but your username is only one small aspect of the block. Please discuss your violation of WP:COI and WP:PAID. 331dot (talk) 12:34, 26 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I'm aware that this username would be acceptable on the German Wikipedia, but it isn't here. Changing it here will change it there, too. Do you want to do that? There are things we can do if you don't. 331dot (talk) 12:34, 26 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I just found my old (personal) wikipedia account (I don't think I ever used it).. can I just delete the Helix Carbon account altogether and use this one? I would still address the WP:COI and WP:PAID issues if necessary. I would also be happy with writing the most absolute barebones article possible (this company exists. period.) and then suggesting / providing other information / citations / etc.. via the talk page- if that is a thing that can be done. Jessehamad (talk) 06:01, 29 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'm fine with that- or I am happy to use an old account (that I completely forgot existed) and just delete the helix carbon account altogether.. did you see my message from my old account (jessehamad)? Helix Carbon (talk) 13:46, 2 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
