Freedom of speech and profanity

Sometimes the question is posed whether Wikipedia allows freedom of speech regarding profanity. Our primary goal is to build an encyclopedia. Freedom of expression is valued, but only to the extent that it does not get in the way of that goal. Including information about offensive material is part of Wikipedia's encyclopedic mission; being offensive is not. We have many articles about profane and sexual subjects‍—‌prick, fuck, shit, fart, and so on. Although Wikipedia is not censored, if you were to put profanities on discussion pages, a quick ban might follow. This is especially true for usernames because these show up in many places where people do not want to be bothered by profanity. Repeated off-topic comments on article talk pages also might constitute a breach of policy.

Information icon Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, articles should not be moved, as you did to Urmila Srabonti Kar, without good reason. They should have a name that is both accurate and intuitive. Wikipedia has some guidelines in place to help with this. Generally, a page should only be moved to a new title if the current name doesn't follow these guidelines. Also, if a page move is being discussed, consensus needs to be reached before anybody moves the page. If you would like to experiment with page titles and moving, please use the test Wikipedia. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. Dl2000 (talk) 23:19, 8 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Dl2000: see here→
-- Afeef (talk) 03:58, 9 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
But there are various sources and sites which support the current spelling as well, so there is no clear consensus about this. Further discussion on this should be done at Talk:Urmila Srabonti Kar. Dl2000 (talk) 12:27, 11 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Category:Unions of Dasar Upazila indicating that it is currently empty, and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion. If it remains empty for seven days or more, it may be deleted under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself. Liz Read! CSD question

[edit]

Can you tell me where you see unambiguous promotion in this draft?-- Ponyobons mots 21:51, 19 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

You won't be able to see it now as I've deleted it as a test page as it was simply a substitution of {{template:biography}}. Regardless, there was nothing promotional about the draft.-- Ponyobons mots 21:56, 19 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Ponyo, I tagged the page because the draft was about a non-notable person. — Haseeb (talk) 01:33, 20 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
You tagged it as WP:CSD#G11, which is for blatantly promotional content. There is no speedy deletion criteria for non-notable drafts. Please review the policy based criteria before tagging any more pages.-- Ponyobons mots 16:19, 20 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Ponyo, No, I tagged the page as {{db-spam}}, then it goes to G11. I didn't tag it for having unambiguous promotion. — Haseeb (talk) 16:57, 20 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
db-spam is unambiguous promotion. It's just a subset of the G11 tag.-- Ponyobons mots 17:01, 20 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

U5 declined

[edit]

I declined your speedy deletion request. U5 is meant for pages in user space that are not compliant with WP:User pages. Per WP:UPYES, drafts of articles, are very much allowed and not eligible for U5 deletion. Please read and understand the speedy deletion criteria before tagging pages. -- Whpq (talk) 00:38, 12 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
