Guy Fawkes

I apologize if this the wrong place for this comment. You keep reverting my edit on the Guy Fawkes page. I did mess up on one edit where I saved after inadvertently deleting the lower half of the page somehow. Now that's what reverting is for. Except for that, I edited fairly lightly, trying to clean up the murky prose and put in a missing comma. Please don't revert my edits without seeing what I actually did. Thanks. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.2.130.86 (talk) 04:20, 16 November 2008 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (Image:13wibw.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:13wibw.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. IP sock of User talk:PoliticianTexas is back

Since you were involved in User talk:PoliticianTexas's last sockpuppetry case, I thought I should tell you his IP (confirmed as a sock of User talk:DeLaCueva, which was confirmed as a sock of User talk:PoliticianTexas) is back at 71.30.147.211 (talk · contribs). Same edits to NMAA District 2-AAAA as before, no discussion from the sock. I thought he was already banned, but he popped back up tonight. Thanks in advance! Dayewalker (talk) 06:27, 14 October 2008 (UTC)

IP block

Yet again, my IP had been blocked.

Block evasion: Range used by prolific sockpuppeteer WJH1992 (88.109.165.193)

This is the 3rd time this has happened. Each time it's been a different user and I always seem to be collateral damage! Please amend your mistake. Captain Alaric (talk) 22:11, 14 October 2008 (UTC)

Not sure what to say about this...

User:Mmmovie has responded to your block with a statement here. In case it gets oversighted or deleted before you see it, it contains the same mistaken "outing" of my identity, but adds "Now I am aware of the fact that they are working in high numbers, and that it is possible that you, blueboy are part of the group who are supporting a mean and sick fraud project which is out and created solely to defraud the paying public with some foolish fabrications". There's a lot more, but that's the part that involves you. Just letting you know. Delicious carbuncle (talk) 22:40, 15 October 2008 (UTC)

He returned as IP 76.171.28.169 (talk · contribs) tonight and made this awful edit [1], which I reverted. Just wanted to make sure you saw it, and saw that he was IP socking to avoid his ban. Thanks! Dayewalker (talk) 06:03, 17 October 2008 (UTC)
But wait, there's more! He's back on his user page, with a cut and paste of the same edit noted above. Is the user page only semi-protected? Although I am not Pauline Berry, she is a real person who is being harassed off-wiki by this person, who is misguidedly trying to bring it here (see here). For obvious reasons I'm not going to argue with the user, but if anyone feels they need an explanation for any of my actions, just let me know. Thanks. Delicious carbuncle (talk) 13:22, 18 October 2008 (UTC)
Just poking you, in case you missed the message above in all your talk page traffic. Thanks. Delicious carbuncle (talk) 13:34, 19 October 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for deleting the user sub-page, but it was actually the additions to User talk:Mmmovie I was referring to. I think you may have only semi-protected the page. Could you take another look? Thanks again. Delicious carbuncle (talk) 13:45, 19 October 2008 (UTC)

List of drag queens

I do not understand your close of this AFD. WP:BLP applies to contentious information and, since every entry on this list had a corresponding Wikipedia entry and since it is not libelous to call someone a drag queen, deleting the list after less than three hours at AFD strikes me as being more than a little bit premature. Please restore the list and allow the AFD to run its course. Otto4711 (talk) 05:04, 18 October 2008 (UTC)

  • How is calling a drag queen a drag queen "controversial"? And if this was purely a sourcing issue (despite every entry on the list having a corresponding Wikipedia article), wouldn't the proper course of action have been to tag it for sourcing instead of nuking it from orbit? True that the IP edited last night. She created the talk page for that Beverly Hills Kids and Teens thing again, which is how I recognized it was Alicia. I dropped a message on the IP's talk page saying "Please log in to edit, Alicia." A few minutes later, FanRachel2 began her reign of terror. It's apparently static: look at its deleted contribution history.—Kww(talk) 14:36, 18 October 2008 (UTC)

In regard to this MfD, I believe that I disagree not with the substance of how you closed this MfD, but how the closing was phrased. Jesse54 Question

I know with the Dingbat sockpuppets it is revert everything, delete anything he makes, and block. But one page was technically correct. WJOS-LP is a low-power station in Pomeroy, Ohio. It does broadcast on channel 57. Would it be possible to readd that page? - NeutralHomerTalk • October 19, 2008 @ 18:29

Also, to reask from above, "would it be possible to be a "range block" (for lack of a better term" on all "Jesse" and "Reba" usernames since those are the ones that Dingbat likes to use?" - NeutralHomerTalk • October 19, 2008 @ 18:30
I recreated the WJOS-LP page...added alot of things, so it didn't look like the same page as previous. I didn't think the "range block" idea would be possible, but I thought I would throw it out there. Soon, he may run out all the names for us. :) - NeutralHomerTalk • October 19, 2008 @ 19:05

Block of User:Xhemail

I'm not so sure that User:Xhemail deserved an indefinite block. I might be reading it wrong, but it looks like he's just in an edit war with the guy who reported him on AIV (who actually appears to be more of the problem editor). Hiberniantears (talk) 20:28, 20 October 2008 (UTC)

Ged attack accounts

Do you want to handle the malformed unblock request at BonerGed? Thanks, BencherliteTalk 22:58, 23 October 2008 (UTC)

You may find it helpful when doing that IP check thingy to have a look at User:Ged UK/Vandalwatch for a list of IP addresses that have all vandalised pages I watch, usually by making reference to toads, or sometimes specifically to me. There have been others, but I lost track earlier in the year. 82.9.27.130 (talk · contribs · blocks · count · rollback · admin · logs) and 82.2.141.40 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log) have made what could be seen (and are probably supposed to be) threatening posts on my userpage though I can't say as they had much effect. Anyway, this may help, or it may not, I don't really understand how IP addresses and rangeblocks work. --Ged UK (talk) 07:13, 24 October 2008 (UTC)

Would you please state on the talk page of the Merritt Centennials article as to why you placed a COI tag on it? I don't currently see what the conflict of interest is and because you didn't explain yourself it makes it hard to get anyone to fix it. DMighton (talk) 02:21, 25 October 2008 (UTC)

Ashley Todd and BLP

Is there precedent that merely throwing a few extra words into a BLP's title overcomes a WP:BLP1E issue? I don't like it in the case of Ashley Todd. What's next after Ashley Todd mugging claim? Brian Pepper's ugly face? Daniel Brandt's college activities? The internet meme of the Chinese kid whose name I've forgotten? While I agree the ball isn't going to move forward here until after the election due to partisanship (and the next few weeks will only get more nuts), your speedy close of the AfD seems like a path down a slippery slope. First do no harm, right? -- Kendrick7talk 03:28, 25 October 2008 (UTC)

  • You closed this AfD after only 14 hours with the dodgy rationale "While it is indisputable at this point that the events are worthy of an article". Concerned

I am getting really concerned about your (mis)use of the tools, mainly because whenever a problem is pointed out you don't offer any explanation about it. Sure, everyone makes mistakes but there is a line where constant mistakes become disruptive. I watchlisted your talkpage after you blocked my bot account for "running a bot script without approval", despite that it had never edited, which is a waste of both my time and yours. Despite this, you never offered an explanation or apology, you simply ignored me. In the time that I have had your talkpage watchlisted you have semi-protected a page that didn't need it (and didn't reply to post to justify your actions), blocked a user who hadn't edited since their last warning (and again never replied), blocked an account of someone who had been involved in discussion with the Wikimedia foundation about their position/username (again offering no explanation), and now you have blocked a username used by SUL for breaking a rule that doesn't even exist anymore, and hasn't done for a considerable length of time. Either start addressing the concerns being raised, offer explanations or apologies where necessary or reconsider your use of the tools. I am sorry if this comes across too harsh as that is not my intention, I just want you to address these issues both for the benefit of the people involved and for your own sake. Thank you, ~ User:Ameliorate! (with the !) (talk) 15:20, 8 November 2008 (UTC)

Hi Blueboy,
Thanks for the message. What's disturbing about the sock accounts? If he wasn't blocked, he wouldn't have to use them. And if he hadn't used them to renew his old edit wars, it's likely he would never have been detected using them. To me, the only thing disturbing about this situation is his persistence in renewing old edit disputes. If he let them go, he'd be a pretty decent editor. I'd like to know which named account needs to be merged, because there is a vey good chance this is the sockpuppeteer asking for the unblock. -- Avi (talk) 02:01, 23 November 2008 (UTC)

Normally, I would not answer that question, as it may impinge on the privacy of the sockpuppeteer, but in this case, other IPs in that range have been overtly confirmed, so I am not revealing anything that is not known. Please see Category:Wikipedia sockpuppets of Tom Sayle. -- Avi (talk) 02:11, 23 November 2008 (UTC)

Probable block evasion

You blocked Mmmovie (talk · contribs) not so long ago. The same person appears to have resurrected a dormant account to evade their block and edit their own article. I think you will recognize the style and accusations. See this thread at ANI. Can you please take a look? I'd like to short circuit any more unnecessary drama in that thread, regardless of the source. Thanks. Delicious carbuncle (talk) 14:01, 24 November 2008 (UTC)

ANI thread

A one sentence explanation for a proposed community ban is insufficient. Perhaps you could write a history and explain why a community ban is needed, as opposed to a block? Since you are in journalism, writing an explanation shouldn't be too difficult. I am not for or against the ban. There is simply no information given in the ANI post. Chergles (talk) 16:12, 24 November 2008 (UTC)

The evidence that you present is not available. Perhaps it has been permanently removed ("Oversighted"). There are many kinds of blocks, besides ban. What if someone were blocked for 1 year? If they are young, people can mature quite a bit in one year. I can't say if this is the best thing for this case because the evidence presented is no longer there. Chergles (talk) 23:09, 24 November 2008 (UTC)

Trisha16 (blocked Dingbat sock)

Can we put an editing block on their talkpage? They keep reverting the sock warning to readd a fictional TV station infobox. Nate (chatter) 03:32, 26 November 2008 (UTC)

G2Bambino

I don't think what he did can be reasonably called abusing the unblock template. I really don't think it's appropriate to project his page. While his actions did nearly drive another editor off the project, that same editor nearly drove him off the project - there are no clean hands about. Let's not let the other involved editor successfully drive G2Bambino off the project by kicking him while he's down, eh? WilyD 17:26, 27 November 2008 (UTC)

No doubt, and all the unblocks make it look even longer. ;) Circumstances factor into things, I think, that whenever he's gotten himself in trouble he's been part of a messy dispute rather than causing trouble himself. I suspect he's near the end of line in this regard, but one does often hold out hope for good contributers. WilyD 17:55, 27 November 2008 (UTC)

Following your "final warning" [2] the user made this edit. I provided yet another statement against vandalism on the user's talk page, but if you wish to take further action, feel free. -- The Red Pen of Doom

User talk pages

I've been slowly cleaning up the mess that JARIAN (talk · contribs) left behind. Good catch on the hoaxes, but in the future you can probably save some time by just dropping a note at AN/I and then deleting the articles. (No need for AfD.)

As an aside, it's not necessary to revert an editor who blanks his own talk page, nor is it appropriate either to warn him or protect ([3]) the talk page. If an editor blanks warnings on his talk page, that's taken to be a good sign that the messages have been read and have served their purpose. We only protect the talk pages of an editor if they're doing something like abusing the {unblock} template.

Repeated reverting to keep warning templates in place ([4], [5]) is strongly discouraged: Wikipedia:User page#Removal of comments, warnings. Cheers! TenOfAllTrades(talk) 06:00, 30 November 2008 (UTC)

If the problem is due to inappropriate page moves (which is a valid reason to protect) then you can always move-protect only. If you do that, just be sure to create an appropriate entry in the protection log. The templated reason that you used ([http://wiki.riteme.site/w/index.php?title=Special%3ALog&type=protect&user=Blueboy96&page=User+talk%3AJARIAN&year=&month=-1 "Inappropriate use of user talk page while blocked") didn't apply to the situation. TenOfAllTrades(talk) 15:02, 30 November 2008 (UTC)

This entry of yours [6] from June 30, 2007, has been challenged with a "fact" tag as being too vague. Can you provide citation(s) for the statement that "two SABR researchers" have debunked the movable fence story? Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? 19:15, 1 December 2008 (UTC)

Hi there, yes, this is my domain, and I'm the executive director, although I'm not trying to promote my domain. It's more to have some degree of anonymity and at the same time have people know vaguely who I am.User talk:revealdotorg 19:25, 1 December 2008 (UTC)

conflicts of interest discussion

Mmm, well, everyone has a partisan point of view, as well as "there is no truly objective point of view." As least reading enough Derrida or other postmodern philosophers, I get that point of view. That isn't to say that people should promote their own organizations, but think of it this way: can a Republican truly put together an objective Republican article (or Democrat article), or would this constitute of conflict of interest? User talk:revealdotorg 20:22, 1 December 2008 (UTC)

COI: WEDU

Earlier, you reverted Weducomm's edits regarding WEDU. Since then, he's doing it again. I have warned him twice on WP:COI grounds, but he reverted them back to his version, calling my edits "malicious and inaccurate" (never mind that my "edits" were mere reverts). Better keep a close eye on that article. -- azumanga (talk) 23:33, 1 December 2008 (UTC)

Hi there. Sorry I did not mention the reason for removal in the edit summary. I did do so on the discussion page, and in fact I pasted all that material in the article where it belonged. Perhaps you'd like to reconsider your reversion. NuclearWinner (talk) 00:58, 2 December 2008 (UTC)

AN comment

Hiya mate,

Sorry to bother you, but i wanted to let you know I edited one of your posts just to be on the safe side of blp. If you look through my recent contribs (they arnt very hectic) you should see the comment I edited. I dont believe it affected what you were saying to any great extent. Many thanks Seddσn talk 01:54, 2 December 2008 (UTC)

This is in regards to the block you put on HPJoker. You might want to check out my user talk page to see what the anon IP put on there. I suspect it is HPJoker doing it, especially since he put the comments under the same heading and used similar language. Thanks. Atlantabravz (talk) 13:25, 2 December 2008 (UTC)

RE

DUDE THOSE ARE NOT ME. THIS IS MY SCHOOL IP (Fairview High, Boulder, Colorado). I SWEAR THOSE ARE NOT MINE. I CAN'T EVEN EDIT FROM MY HOME COMPUTERS BECAUSE THEY'VE BEEN LOGGED ONTO MY ACCOUNT RECENTLY. 161.97.198.130 (talk) 20:19, 2 December 2008 (UTC) (HPJoker)

Possible Bellinghaus sockpuppet

Another brand new account (User:Mendocinocap) has just made some rather, uh, suspicious edits to Mark Bellinghaus. Shall I start a sockpuppetry case? The User:TerpischoreMuse account seemed to me like his as well. Incidentally, User:Weareallone made an edit which removed sourced content, just before you blocked him. Rather than revert it, User:Tyrenius fixed the broken refs. I know you probably don't want to get sucked into content issues here, but would it be reasonable to ask for those edits to be rolled back considering his COI? Delicious carbuncle (talk) 20:40, 2 December 2008 (UTC)

I went ahead and started a sockpuppetry case here. I was hoping for your advice, but I wanted to get the ball rolling. Thanks. Delicious carbuncle (talk) 15:07, 3 December 2008 (UTC)

4.244.0.0-4.245.255.255 is at it again. (hist) Does the template deserve a short semi-protection? Or should the IP range be blocked temporarily? Kyosuke Aokitalkcontribs 06:55, 5 December 2008 (UTC)

Block

Are you sure blocking User:Pitchengine was the right move? His note in the AfD seemed like he was curious how to make things work. --CastAStone//₵₳$↑₳₴₮ʘ№€ 05:54, 7 December 2008 (UTC)

I'm curious as to why you felt this editor should be unblocked and why you think he "has a point" by saying he was reverting unsourced edits. If you look at the article in question's edit history, you'll see that I am adding a release date to the game Major League Baseball 2K9 with a source (MLB.com) that states, as fact, the game will be released in March 2009. Therefore, my edit passes WP:VERIFY and User: Jwjkp's claims that my edits are vandalism, unsourced and speculation are entirely wrong. It seems to me you did not fully examine the situation before making an initial judgment on this user's block, and that doesn't seem like a good way of doing things.►Chris NelsonHolla! 01:29, 8 December 2008 (UTC)

Here's another one worth investigating: Jltelvue -- almost all edits were for TelVue Virtual Television Networks. He was warned for COI and spam issues, but they always seem to go on deaf ears. -- azumanga (talk) 05:59, 10 December 2008 (UTC)

Hi, Blueboy96. FYI, Jordan68 seems not to have taken your warning to heart. —Scheinwerfermann T·C19:56, 11 December 2008 (UTC)

User:Fru23's block notice

Hello Blueboy96. This editor keeps trying to clear his Talk page, which I think he is not entitled to do as an indef-blocked user. You might consider reissuing your block with the ability to edit his Talk page disabled. I think we should expect that at least the block notice will remain visible.
