A page you started (The Short Fiction of Norman Mailer) has been reviewed!

Thanks for creating The Short Fiction of Norman Mailer, Grlucas!

Wikipedia editor Blythwood just reviewed your page, and wrote this note for you:

Thanks for this! I've done a bit of tagging: linked to Worldcat and ISBN numbers (this is what you paste in for that), made the title italic, added some more categories and linked on the talk page to the books project on the talk page. Hope that's OK.

Welcome!

Hi! Its really exciting to see someone with a background and interest in digital humanities working on content on Wikipedia! I also have a background in the digital humanities, and really think of Wikipedia as an obvious platform for exposing the knowledge we create in this digital humanities projects. Please let me know if you get caught, and/or need help better understanding a part of the Wikimedia community. Sadads (talk) 13:26, 21 August 2017 (UTC)

Yeah, your content so far has been great! I would definitely keep up the style of writing you have been doing: heavily tied to sources, like a literature review. I find that the GA/FA processes are quite a heavy commitment of time and energy -- whereas writing a stable high-quality article without them, is usually fairly easy. Make sure that you submit some of the articles that you expand to the Did you know process. There is a handout for how the process works at here. What's great about DYK, is that it gets some of your newer content in front of at least one more experienced editor, and also a boost in visibility from the main page (which often catches copyediting issues, and may get additional interest).
I would also encourage you considering if you can work with students to expand articles that you don't have capacity to do yourself, using the Wikipedia:Education program . I have seen a number of literature course fill really important gaps in Wikiepdia, such as works by Women authors, coverage of minority or international literature, and important but missing literary terms. In the United States, you have the added bonus of support from the Wiki Education Foundation. Sadads (talk) 13:14, 22 August 2017 (UTC)

Incomplete DYK nomination

Hello! Your submission of Template:Did you know nominations/The Man Who Studied Yoga at the Did You Know nominations page is not complete; if you would like to continue, please link the nomination to the nominations page as described in step 3 of the nomination procedure. If you do not want to continue with the nomination, tag the nomination page with {{db-g7}}, or ask a DYK admin. Thank you. DYKHousekeepingBot (talk) 09:57, 26 August 2017 (UTC)

DYK for The Man Who Studied Yoga

On 19 September 2017, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article The Man Who Studied Yoga, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Norman Mailer wrote "The Man Who Studied Yoga" in 1952 in order to free himself from the past success of his first novel? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/The Man Who Studied Yoga. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, The Man Who Studied Yoga), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

This change contradicts the Society's own current statements on its website. Do we have an independent source for it?

Regards, HaeB (talk) 21:34, 25 March 2018 (UTC)

Thanks for the heads-up. The Society's site is being renovated, but its About page does reflect the changes I made. Cheers, Grlucas (talk) 13:38, 26 March 2018 (UTC)

@Le Deluge:, @RHaworth: This is an error. The page was a course page under the auspices of WP:WEP -- see my several others -- and should not have been deleted. I have been teaching with Wikipedia for several semesters. Thanks. -Grlucas (talk) 14:34, 13 August 2018 (UTC)
It appeared to be a duplicate under a mistaken name of Wikipedia:Wiki_Ed/Middle Georgia State University/Studies in Culture (Fall 2018), which still exists - did I miss something? Presumably that was the one you want on your user page etc? Le Deluge (talk) 14:38, 13 August 2018 (UTC)
Ah, I see. Thanks. I'm not sure how that happened, so I will contact the WikiEdu admin. Grlucas (talk) 14:41, 13 August 2018 (UTC)

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited The White Negro, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Albert Murray (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, DPL bot (talk) 09:06, 30 August 2018 (UTC)

Content you added to the above article appears to have been copied from http://shwetawrites.com/epics/ or elsewhere online. Copying text directly from a source is a copyright violation. Unfortunately, for copyright reasons, the content had to be removed. All content you add to Wikipedia must be written in your own words. @Diannaa: For the record, the person who wrote that page took that from me. I wrote that years ago while in my MA program during the nineties. If you notice, she quotes the whole passage crediting it to someone named "Abram" (no source is listed, though I think she means Abrams, A Glossary of Literary Terms), but I wrote the quoted passage. A version of my work is here. In fact, she seems to take a lot from my work — not that I mind, but I do request attribution. —Grlucas (talk) 03:03, 12 September 2018 (UTC)

NMAC 5108 Spring 2019 Journals

Hello Dr. Lucas, I am excited about learning how to write in a digital environment. My journal page for class is located at: https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/User:Dillbug/NMAC_5108_Journal Dillbug (talk) 22:10, 7 March 2019 (UTC)

@Dillbug: Great start. Thanks. Wiki syntax for that would be [[User:Dillbug/NMAC_5108_Journal|Dillbug's 5108 Journal]], which would look like: Dillbug's 5108 Journal. —Grlucas (talk) 22:55, 7 March 2019 (UTC)

Good Morning Dr. Lucas. I am utterly confused, but I have high hopes it will get easier with practice. I am looking forward to learning more. I am attempting to follow the guidance suggested above, so my journal page for class should be located at: Dmcgonagill's 5108 Journal.(Dmcgonagill (talk) 12:44, 8 March 2019 (UTC))

@Dmcgonagill: It looks like you're off to a great start—and your link works for me. Just dive in and tackle each difficulty as you encounter it. Practice everyday. Soon, you will be an expert. Welcome. —Grlucas (talk) 14:16, 8 March 2019 (UTC)

Hello Dr. Lucas. I am looking forward to this class. It certainly will challenge my abilities and require me to get outside of my comfort zone. I ended up creating two user pages somehow but this one is the one that I will use. My journal is located here: https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/User:Roger_C._Byrd/NMAC_5108_Journal. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Roger C. Byrd (talkcontribs) 18:27, 9 March 2019 (UTC)

@Roger C. Byrd: Sounds good. Getting out of your comfort zone will allow you to grow. Go for it! Welcome, and thanks for the link; see my comment to Dillbug above for how to properly link on the wiki, and always to remember to sign your posts on talk pages. —Grlucas (talk) 18:46, 9 March 2019 (UTC)

Hi Dr. Lucas, I just about forgot to send you the link to my journal page, but here it is: https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/User:JVbird/NMAC_5108_Journal Thanks for the opportunity to work on this interesting project! Josef JVbird (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 20:15, 9 March 2019 (UTC)

Thanks, @JVbird:. Please see my reply to Dillbug above for the correct way to link, and be sure to sign your posts on talk pages. Welcome! —Grlucas (talk) 22:04, 9 March 2019 (UTC)

This is Jennifer H. Here is the link to my Journal Page: Jennifer's NMAC 5108 Journal. I'm intimidated by Wikipedia and even this talk page editing looks so confusing to me but I'll do my best to learn. Thank you for having such thorough instructions with links to everything we need because it's helping me tremendously! JenniferMGA (talk) 02:12, 10 March 2019 (UTC)

@JenniferMGA: I'm glad the links are helpful. Don't be intimidated — just dive in and be bold. You'll be an expert in no time. Welcome. —Grlucas (talk) 02:16, 10 March 2019 (UTC)

Dr. Lucas, on your class roster I am Matthew Smith, but I use the name Namir Riptide for digital environments. I have no clue how to start a journal as the instruction do not make sense to me. I hope I did it. User:MCSmith/NMAC_5108_Journal May this work. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Namir Riptide (talkcontribs) 20:05, 10 March 2019 (UTC)

@Namir Riptide: Sorry for your difficulties, but you should ditch the hyperbole, as it seems you had some clue on how to do this, since you did. Did my instructions not help? Be positive as you approach these assignments and read carefully — also be sure to sign your talk page posts. Welcome. —Grlucas (talk) 20:44, 10 March 2019 (UTC)
@Namir Riptide: OK, you might try going to your user page, and creating your journal from there: something like [[User:Namir_Riptide/NMAC_5108_Journal]]. You made a page above with the link you sent for your journal. This could cause you trouble. I recommend you move the content to your new journal. Please let me know if my instructions need further clarification. —Grlucas (talk) 20:52, 10 March 2019 (UTC)
@GrLucas: Editing Wikipedia has the coding at the end so I have been able to get some coding right. I am not sure what was going on yesterday and have restarted the journal User:Namir_Riptide/NMAC_5108_Journal or https://en.m.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User:Namir_Riptide/NMAC_5108_Journal if you prefer. Namir Riptide (talk) 22:55, 11 March 2019 (UTC)
@Namir Riptide: Thank you. One other thing: you might find this much easier using a computer. —Grlucas (talk) 00:49, 12 March 2019 (UTC)

Good evening, Dr. Lucas. This is the link to my journal: https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/User:Mango_Masala/NMAC_5108_Journal. I hope you are able to view correctly. I hope this will all seem much easier with practice. I'm already outside of my comfort zone, but am up for the challenge. Thanks for your patience. Best,Mariam. Good Evening Dr. Lucas. My name is Sherita S. The link to my journal is NMAC 5108 Journal or https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/User:Ssimsjones/NMAC_5108_Journal. I have been able to type into my journal so I really hope I set it up correctly. I have seen articles on Wikipedia but editing them seems really different for me. I am using the training modules but am quite nervous about it. I look forward to learning much more in this semester.==March 10, 2019: Sourcing Issues==Ssimsjones (talk) 01:53, 11 March 2019 (UTC)

Dr. Lucas, The article I chose for Norris Church Mailer is in my sandbox and ready to post. Please advise me on how to post. Thank you.Dillbug (talk) 16:47, 27 March 2019 (UTC)

@Dillbug: You should edit the actual entry for Norris Church Mailer. —Grlucas (talk) 20:56, 27 March 2019 (UTC)

Dr. Lucas, I may still be a little confused. Is it okay to actually edit the essay chosen for errors in grammar? I did not make any changes to the essay as I assumed I was not supposed to. If so, mine is not ready yet.Dillbug (talk) 16:54, 27 March 2019 (UTC) Dr. Lucas, the essay I posted previously about being ready is for the article for the An American Dream Expanded posting, not the Norris Church Mailer posting. I have been switching back and forth so much on both that I am getting very disconcerted.Dillbug (talk) 16:58, 27 March 2019 (UTC)

@Dillbug: No, you post the essay verbatim. You are not changing it at all, other than the formatting so it looks appropriate on the wiki. —Grlucas (talk) 20:56, 27 March 2019 (UTC)
@Grlucas:. Thank you for clarifying again for me. My article is ready to be reviewed and moved to ADD Expanded.Dillbug (talk) 21:14, 27 March 2019 (UTC)
@Dillbug: I see nothing in your sandbox on PM. You didn't post it here, did you? If so, move it to PM right away and delete it. Thanks. —Grlucas (talk) 21:19, 27 March 2019 (UTC)
@Grlucas: I know it doesn't take much but now I am really confused. I posted my article to the wrong sandbox I guess. I used my sandbox under User:Dillbug/sandbox. How can I move it from there to my sandbox on PM? Dillbug (talk) 21:54, 27 March 2019 (UTC)
@Dillbug: This is work you're doing for PM and it's copyrighted, so it should not be on Wikipedia. Just copy and paste it to PM. Easy peasy. —Grlucas (talk) 22:37, 27 March 2019 (UTC)

@Grlucas I'm trying to move my Hassan article from my sandbox to the PM sandbox, but there's already a Hassan article in there. Should I be editing the one that's there already? Please advise. Thank you. Mango Masala 00:31, 2 April 2019 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mango Masala (talkcontribs)

@Mango Masala: You should not have copyrighted material on Wikipedia, so remove it from here and put it in your sandbox on PM, please. (I'm not sure what you mean by there's already one there?) Thanks. —Grlucas (talk) 10:55, 2 April 2019 (UTC)
@Mango Masala: OK, I see what you mean. I'd just copy and paste the updated one (here on Wikipedia) over the old one on PM. (And please remember to sign your posts on talk pages with ~~~~ — thanks. —Grlucas (talk) 11:01, 2 April 2019 (UTC)
@Grlucas: Thank you, Dr. Lucas. I placed it in my sandbox in PM. Mango Masala 22:23, 2 April 2019 (UTC)
