Introduction 6/1/19

[edit]

Greetings, My name is John Couey and I am an IDS major at MGSU. My concentration is English and I enjoy the arts. I grew up an Army brat and was born in California. I currently live in Dublin and enjoy vacations to the mountains of North Georgia. I have visited Wikipedia often over the years since it has become an internet resource and find it easy to go down a rabbit trail. I have never held an account with Wikipedia so I look forward to learning more about writing and editing in digital media.Jknox72 (talk) 19:57, 1 June 2019 (UTC)

Second Journal Post 6/1/19

[edit]

Some the reading that has been especially thought provoking to me so far includes the prospect of writing for millions and having an audience much different than that of a professor and classmates. I also found the notion of weaning off of the college essay very interesting. It seems there will be a completely new approach to writing in this class than what I am used to, but I am eager about broadening my horizons and stepping into new territory!Jknox72 (talk) 23:52, 1 June 2019 (UTC)

@Jknox72: Welcome aboard. I think you'll enjoy writing for this new audience. —Grlucas (talk) 21:37, 2 June 2019 (UTC)
@Jknox72: I agree that the prospect of one's work being immediately available to anyone with an (uncensored) internet connection can be scary at first. However, that should also help us strive to achieve a maximum level of quality in our work. TSchiroMGA (talk) 04:44, 4 June 2019 (UTC)
Hi John! I totally agree, this class is pretty much foreign to all of us. Although, I believe we will do fairly well @Jknox72:.--AmaniSensei (talk) 15:57, 6 June 2019 (UTC)

Third Journal: Evaluating an article 6/8/19

[edit]

Evaluating the article entitled Communication studies found under academic disciplines proved interesting for my first attempt. One of the first things I noticed when reviewing the article was that there were several citations needed. It had several links to professional associations which could prove beneficial. Something interesting in the talk page was that a distinction between communications studies and communication studies would be helpful.Jknox72 (talk) 01:38, 9 June 2019 (UTC)

@Jknox72: Please add the article you evaluated to the WikiEdu dashboard. These updates to your journal are called journal posts not journals. Is this as thorough as it could be? Be sure to proofread and revise. 😁 —Grlucas (talk) 15:16, 10 June 2019 (UTC)

Fourth Journal: Second Evaluation 6/8/19

[edit]

For the topic of my interest, I chose the Wikipedia article on double bassist, Edgar Meyer. The page is brief but informative and does seem to follow etiquette of Wikipedia editing, save for the first reference is a dead link. Otherwise, I believe more information about the musician could be added, but all the other reference links work, and the page tells of the artist's background, associated genres, collaborative efforts, accolades, education and vocational instructing. Another thing that might deepen the article's value would be articles dedicated to some of Meyer's albums that have yet to be edited.-Jknox72 (talk) 03:05, 9 June 2019 (UTC)

@Jknow72: Well done evaluation. You touched on the articles content, discovered an error with a link, and made suggestions for content and sources. Was the articles tone neutral, or did it have an entries that were clearly made by fans? Was there anything notable on the Talk page? When was the last edit made? Keep up the great work!--Mightymize (talk) 16:18, 9 June 2019 (UTC)

This articles sounds to lack a lot of important details. This could be a great article to edit and improve. Tionnetakala (talk) 00:26, 10 June 2019 (UTC)

@Jknox72: The article evaluation part was on point and well written. You gave concise suggestions for article improvement, you discussed about its talk page, tested its links, and checked for references. In my opinion, this would've been a perfect fleshed-out post for your 3rd journal's entry, but my suggestion to you, would be that you should go into slightly greater detail on why you actually found this particular article interesting and chose it as your topic of interest for this 4th entry journal.
