How about Saturday, 6 June, at around 10am to 2pm on the Zulip server? LefcentrerightTalk (plz ping) 19:07, 31 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
From a personal perspective, not that day. After being locked up in solitary confinement for 2 months, that's the first weekend where we're officially allowed out in the day to exercise, so, come rain or shine, I plan to be outside! Sat 13? The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

apartheid and national party (South Africa)

[edit]

when did the party began to admit non-whites? was it 1992 or 1994? which year did it stop being a ethnic nationalist and white supremacist party?

is the following statements true? With support for ending Apartheid secured among white South Africans, the party opened up its membership to all racial groups and rebranded itself as no longer being an ethnic nationalist party only representing Afrikaners, but would henceforth be a civic nationalist and conservative party representing all South Africans. (supposedly 1992)

List of female chess players

[edit]

Why did you put Carissa Yip after Wang Yu? Bruce leverett (talk) 14:05, 27 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Bruce leverett: the family name is Wang, so it belongs above "Y". Wang Yu is listed under "W" in the list further down the page, and in that order on the FIDE page, which makes validating easier as well. Greenman (talk) 14:43, 27 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hello

Thanks for reviewing my draft about Abdou Diop. Can you please tell me why it was rejected?

As I see that notability is shown in all sources provided. They are just not in english but they are centered , secondary and independant. I have read criteria for public figures before trying to create the draft.

Opinion on WolfSSL non-deletion

[edit]

Hi Ian, I was surprised that you removed the Nomination for Deletion on WolfSSL (https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/WolfSSL). You haven't participated in editing any technology or cybersecurity-related pages in the past. It seems that perhaps you simply have a philosophy that COI editing is okay and that the employees should be given a chance to add better sources? Usually editors don't remove an AfD tag unless they have already addressed the concerns and improved the article. Would you please do so, or restore the AfD tag and defer to another editor? Draft:Sewell Peaslee Wright

[edit]

Draft:Sewell_Peaslee_Wright

So sorry I struggle to understand. You are asking me to fix the link and I will but does that also that fix the problem of "...- it is not clear that the subject meets WP:AUTHOR."? Or is this a bigger issue that the author, as the subject, may not meet WP:AUTHOR. I posted my question at the Teahouse and an answer was that just because my author has a lot of works doesn't mean my author meets "... 'published', 'reliable, 'secondary' sources..." criteria because notability isn't inherited. With so very little biographical information about my subject anywhere, by the guidelines this article may not be publishable. Do you agree or am I giving up too soon? Thank you. Tchula65 (talk) 14:12, 16 May 2021 (UTC)Tchula65[reply]

Hi @Tchula65:, it's unclear if fixing the single broken link alone will be enough to meet WP:AUTHOR. The way the reference is used in the article makes it look like it could just be a passing mention. If you can access the writing mentioned in "further reading" and incorporate as references, that may help. Greenman (talk) 19:27, 16 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Missing data

[edit]

Hi. Where are you getting the numbers that you are adding to the templates that you are editing from time to time? The numbers that are added in edits like this and this should be supported by reliable sources, but I could not find any for the numbers that you added in those edits. LSGH (talk) (contributions) 10:39, 18 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@LSGH: The aggregated data is from https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/mozambique/ which lists the individual sources. For example, their Mozambique appears to be from https://covid19.ins.gov.mz/ and https://coesaude.maps.arcgis.com/apps/opsdashboard/index.html#/8a0407dcf9374ae5a7b592e770c6d84f Greenman (talk) 21:39, 20 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I could not always check if those other sources are updated every day. Worldometers appear to remove sources after seven days. I do not know if you have any other source for this. Neither this nor this provided any numbers for those dates. LSGH (talk) (contributions) 04:00, 23 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Port Elizabeth reply

[edit]

Im sorry if I am doing this incorrectly :D Still new to Wikipedia. The reason I keep reverting the Port Elizabeth wiki back to pre Gqeberha days is because of the way the name was "officially" voted in, I see you're also quite active in South African politics so I dont think I need to explain what happened but im more than happy to do so. TL;DR the name is still not "official official" as the DA and Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality (or atleast the mayor) is fighting to either change the name back to Port Elizabeth or Nelson Mandela city. In the mean time I am reverting it back to Port Elizabeth as the name is still up in the air if that makes sense. Have a great day :D (PS: cool contributions :) ) — Preceding unsigned comment added by ILikeTrams (talkcontribs) 18:23, 23 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Review of Draft:Nicolas Aguzin

[edit]

Hi Greenman, thanks for reviewing my draft Draft:Nicolas Aguzin. Well noted your comments on not having enough reference to prove his notability, but I would like to highlight that he is the CEO of Hong Kong Stock Exchange, just like Nasdaq or NYSE in the US and LSE in the UK. His preceder, Charles Li, also had a wikipage with only 4 references...https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Charles_Li. Can you pls review again? Thanks. Bubblyheap (talk) 10:31, 14 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Bubblyheap:. The purpose of the review process is to identify which articles would be likely to be kept, and survive a possible deletion nomination process. There are many articles already on Wikipedia that would be at risk of being deleted, so it's not always a good comparison to look at what's already in mainspace. In this case, I think the article has a good chance of surviving given more evidence of significant coverage that would help the article's case. Greenman (talk) 08:38, 17 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Greenman: I saw the above article, you promoted. Did you not ask the author to take out the embedded links in it, nor the really dodgy references? scope_creepTalk 00:05, 17 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Scope creep:, thanks for making the improvements to the article. I am trying to focus on WP:AFCPURPOSE for the purposes of reviewing, especially with the huge backlog, and tend to focus more on giving feedback for declined topics. This was an article that seemed notable to me, so I approved it. In most cases I'd make minor improvements to approved articles myself, but in this case left further improvements to be made and discussed in the article itself, so thanks for stepping in :) Greenman (talk) 08:29, 17 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Yip, Yip. I thought it is notable and it wouldn't have been deleted certainly. I think it was actually by a UPE, as there were two separate links to the book shop. scope_creepTalk 13:53, 17 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Just a heads-up that you declined this draft for notability, although the subject is notable per WP:NPOL. Just a heads up for future reference. :) Curbon7 (talk) 08:30, 21 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks @Curbon7:, were you able to verify WP:NPOL based on the provided sources? For me, one of the 3 sources consistently returns a broken page, and the other two did not give any usable information to verify the claim. Greenman (talk) 15:13, 21 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah sadly only the first source is really usable, but it confirms notability with the statement that he was a state legislator, which meets criteria 1 of WP:NPOL. Curbon7 (talk) 23:19, 21 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Dear @Greenman:, Thank you for taking the time to review my draft Draft:Ling Shao. The reason you used to decline my draft is as follows: "This submission's references do not show that the subject qualifies for a Wikipedia article—that is, they do not show significant coverage (not just passing mentions) about the subject in published, reliable, secondary sources that are independent of the subject (see the guidelines on the notability of people). Before any resubmission, additional references meeting these criteria should be added (see technical help and learn about mistakes to avoid when addressing this issue). If no additional references exist, the subject is not suitable for Wikipedia."

I think it is necessary to reiterate before I re-submit that the article is based on Wikipedia:Notability (academics) criteria because the subject is a well-known academic. Concretely, he has been elected as a Fellow of the IEEE, the IAPR, the IET and the British Computer Society. Furthermore, he was selected as a ‘Highly Cited Researcher’ by the Web of Science in 2018, 2019 and 2020. He also has authored/co-authored over 400 papers in top conferences/journals including ICCV/CVPR/ECCV/NeurIPS/ICML/TPAMI/IJCV.

I think all the above achievements are sufficient to show that he is a notability academic. Could you please review the draft from the perspective of Wikipedia:Notability (academics)? Best wishes.Future of AI (talk) 15:58, 21 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hello @Greenman, Much appreciated for taking the time to review the draft Draft:Mzalendo Kibunjia. I have corrected the citations to the best of my knowledge. Can you kindly review and let me know your view. Chuthi (talk) 07:59, 25 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Greenman:, I did read your comment on my draft for Wayne Nelson. The awards that professor Nelson has received are all notable and far from being trivial. The IEEE fellowship is a legitimate accomplishment in the field of Engineering. I see your point regarding my sentence reliability icon; Even though as a reliability engineer I see Professor Nelson as an icon in the field, I might've been a bit biased, so I am removing the sentence you referred to. Are the "copyvio" triggers things like numbers and names of teams and awards and statistics? Draft:Crompton Greaves Consumer Electricals Limited

[edit]

Hi Ian! You had reviewed this draft on 8 July and declined, mentioning that it read like an advertisement. I had made some changes to this and it was rejected for notability shortly after that.

I have recently made more changes to this draft to remove any promotional language and kept it strictly for what the company is and its history. I would appreciate any help in getting this draft approved.

Here's a quick overview of the new additions: I have included a reference from a prominent Indian magazine, Outlook Business, that has significant coverage on the company. This article covers the history of the company, its current business. I have also included another Indian magazine, The Week, that had some more coverage on the company's R&D. There is also a news report by Reuters that talks about the corporate demerger that formed this company. Are these not considered to be sufficient coverage for notability? From my understanding, these are significant coverage that is also independent, reliable, and secondary. Please let me know what else I can add that can get this draft approved.

This is also a publically traded company that is also frequently covered by financial news outlets. Should I also include independent press coverage and analyst reports of the stock?

This is just to let you know that the Wikimedia ZA AGM will be taking place on 25 September 2021 See below for more details.

  • Time: Saturday, 25 September 2021, starts at 10:00 to 16:00. With intermission at 13:00

[edit]

Dear Greenman

Thank you for the reviewing of the draft ILARIA BROCCHINI. Several sources have been added after the last review. Can you please compare again the two versions ? You will realise that the last one DOES include sources which demonstrate notability. Thank you for you help --Mirabiliamira (talk) 11:58, 22 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

This player is not a professional athlete. The page should be evaluated using criteria for amateur sports person. Conference-level awards are listed as acceptable notability. This player has been awarded the conference freshman of the year, was named to the conference all-freshmen team, and most recently was named on the all- conference preseason team (link below). Additionally, the player was named a NCAA Player of the week. While the player of the week is not a major award, coupled with the college awards, this player should meet notability requirements for an amateur sports person.

Her five books are are appreciated and recognised by Déotte and other philosophers. She is not a professor. Her career is similar to Benjamin's one. This is problably a reason why the german Wikipedia easily accepted the article. Kind Regards --Mirabiliamira (talk) 10:44, 26 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Draft:Wang_Hsin

[edit]

Dear Mr. Greenman, Thank you for reviewing! I have added more links and re-write the expression. Please pay more attention to Ref[6] to Ref[10] and instruct how to re-write. This Pokemon Go patent lawsuit is a big event in 2016 in Taiwan. It covered everyday hot topics for more than 1 week and spread to US, Canada, and South East Asia. You can see Ref[6][7] are Taiwan sources, Ref[8] Canadian source, Ref[9] India source, Ref[10] US source, and Ref[11] a Brunei source. Actually, you could find sources from South East Asia, US and Canada easily. This subject [Draft:Wang_Hsin] is also a translation from Chinese wiki 王信 (台灣文學家)[1] in 2017 for your reference. I would like to re-submit the draft for your review. Thank you in advance! Best, Kenshin2021(talk)

Shortnames

[edit]

Hello. Regarding your change of the ANC shortname, this is causing issues on election articles like 2019 South African general election, where the party name is too long for a single row in the infobox. Shortnames are meant to be short enough to fit properly in templates like this. See, for example, the shortnames of UK political parties in this infobox. Cheers, Number 57 22:34, 4 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Number 57, please stop. In the results, half of the names are names, and half are now abbreviations. The same problem occurs throughout scores of templates on election results everywhere. The party name must be used in all cases. When it gets changed to an abbreviation everything is inconsistent. Look at the mess for example on Cederberg Local Municipality elections. When you were reverted previously by another editor, you were asked to discuss on the SA politics task force page, so I suggest taking the discussion there if you are proposing a change. I don't know which line you're referring to in the infobox, but I presume there's a way to override it if its important (and from what I see now all your change has accomplished is to make things look inconsistent there as well. "Democratic Alliance" appears over two lines in full, while EFF is an abbreviation, which looks awful to me. Greenman (talk) 22:47, 4 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Stop what?
I'm referring to the 'Party' row in the infobox. 'African National Congress' is split over two lines (and Democratic Alliance appears on a single line).
I would suggest the issues at that article could be avoided by using a better results table format that doesn't use {{Party name with colour}}. I'll do an example of how the formatting could be improved. Cheers, Number 57 22:51, 4 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Number 57, it may appear so on your screen, but on mine, "Democratic Alliance" is already over two lines, so the basis for your change is not correct. You can try changing your resolution/text size. If you wish to change the scores of SA election articles that use party colour you're of course welcome, but I'll revert the abbreviation changes in the meantime so that the results consistently display the party name, and not an abbreviation. Please don't change them back until consensus is reached on the SA Politics task force page. Greenman (talk) 23:00, 4 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Odd. I've tried it at different resolutions and it stays on a single line.
Anyway, I've edited Cederberg Local Municipality elections to show an example of how the tables could be formatted – a template that automatically picks up party colours, as well as calculating the percentages and seat totals. The same format is used on South African general and provincial election articles already. I'll happily convert the other articles as I have an excel sheet that you can copy a table into and it chucks out the code, so it won't take that long.
Are you aware of any other articles that use the shortname templates in tables? Having a long name in the shortname template is non-standard and I'll propose that it be changed at the venue suggested, but other uses should probably be tidied up first. Cheers, Number 57 23:10, 4 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Number 57 Thanks for editing the Cederberg article (and adding the %s), that does seem better. I'll use that template going forward. There are lots of others that should also be edited - Template:Metropolitan elections in South Africa and Template:Municipal elections in the Western Cape at least. For now my focus is on new content related to the current municipal elections. I still don't like the inconsistent use of abbreviations in some cases, party names in others, when the only purpose is to cater for certain screen/font settings, but if it only affects the infoboxes I'm happy to leave it for now. Greenman (talk) 23:26, 4 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
No problem. I'll try and go through all the pages where the template is in use over the next few days. Cheers, Number 57 23:28, 4 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Review: Draft: Kings University (Duplicate Article)

[edit]

Hi Greeman,

Thank you for taking the time to review my draft article and bringing the duplicate to my attention.

How would you recommend I proceed? I do know the editor, i was told to get involved after the editor's first rejection. I just didn't know the editor was going to resubmit after his first rejection.

Aside from this, could you please spare some time to take a look at the content of my article; i have been dealing with referencing issues and i hope the current draft is an attempt at fixing that. Or would you recommend i resubmit it first?

Thanks for your time once again and hope to hear from you soon. — Preceding unsigned comment added by AhZ0k4 (talkcontribs) 10:13, 7 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Draft:Advanced Electromagnetics

[edit]

Hi Greenman, You have recently reviewed the Draft:Advanced Electromagnetics: "This submission's references do not show that the subject qualifies for a Wikipedia article—that is, they do not show significant coverage (not just passing mentions) about the subject in published, reliable, secondary sources that are independent of the subject" Actually I followed the templates used by other journals like: https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Electromagnetics_(journal) https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Nanophotonics_(journal) whose number of references is quite limited too. Could you please help me by explaining what kind of references are needed? the page is about a scientific journal. As you can see we are referenced in several known databases, including Scopus and Thomson Reuters (Emerging Sources Citation Index). But is seems that I cannot list those databases as references. We are also cited in Wikipedia, see for example, reference 23 in https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Inductance, and reference 5 in https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Simulia_(company). Thank you for you help! Seemingly Inappropriate Use of Review Power

[edit]

Hello Greenman,

I was wondering why you reviewed the Cape Independence article and gave it a B rating. Almost every source I can find describes the movement as fringe and fairly tiny. Yet the article in question makes it seem very popular. As someone who lives in Cape Town, I assume you would have heard of this movement. The article is lacking a neutral POV, presents fringe views as mainstream, and is unbalanced towards the other side. I am requesting that you remove the high rating. What are your thoughts on the article in question? Desertambition (talk) 09:03, 4 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

In support of Mr Greenman: Salaam, @Desertambition:. The article under dispute was also independetly reviewed by an editor of Wikiprojects Africa who also gave the article a B rating. Have you considered reading the references presented in the article in addition to the one's you have personally searched? Suffy69 (talk) 11:49, 4 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

AfC for footballer biographies

Hello Greenman. If you are reviewing AfCs for biographies of professional footballers, please keep in mind that players must pass WP:NFOOTY at the very least, and if not, they must pass WP:GNG. I have unreviewed a page you curated

[edit]

Hi, I'm Celestina007. I wanted to let you know that I saw the page you reviewed, Titi Kuti, and have marked it as unreviewed. If you have any questions, please ask them on my talk page. Thank you.

(Message delivered via the Page Curation tool, on behalf of the reviewer.)

Celestina007 (talk) 01:24, 21 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

To expatiate, I moved it to Draftspace initially primarily due to possible COI reasons, and then I was too preoccupied to start a conversation about a COI with the article creator, secondly I didn’t see the article meeting WP:NACTOR with the sources in the article (I’m aware of NEXIST) I did a BEFORE (or a google search on them) tbh, I probably should have sent the article to AFD, but if I may, are there any three sources (I’m aware this isn’t policy) you see meeting RS that made you accept and mark the article as reviewed? NACTOR requires multiple lead roles in multiple movies or clinching a prestigious award, neither is the case here so as the nature of the sourcing, so I’m curious to know if you are seeing something i’m not, do you mind explaining your rationale? Celestina007 (talk) 01:35, 21 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @Celestina007: (and cc'ing @Dan arndt: who has since nominated the article for PROD). My evaluation was based on their major role in King of Boys: The Return of the King, and on co-hosting Stakers Championship. I'm aware the latter is still upcoming, but it has been confirmed, and as a TV production still seems to qualify for NACTOR. In addition, the existing coverage appears to indicate the subject is well-known in Nigeria due to the widespread coverage of their role in Return of the King. Sources in the submission include the Guardian, Nation, PM News, Daily Trust and Bella Naija, which I think is quite widespread as far as Nigerian media goes and could meet WP:GNG. I'll leave it you to decide whether to withdraw or continue with the PROD. Greenman (talk) 11:46, 21 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Greenman: the key requirement of WP:NACTOR, is that they have had significant roles in multiple notable films, television shows, stage performances, or other productions. Titi Kuti's performance in King of Boys is a minor role and his role in King of Boys:The Return of the King is questionable as to whether it is a 'significant role'. The sources cited include interviews with the individual which are considered primary sources and therefore not independent. Dan arndt (talk) 11:55, 21 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the response, I would have gone in-depth on this but I’m currently at work and Dan ardnt has pretty much said all there is to say, their roles in King of Boys or King of Boys 2, is passive at best. Lastly BellaNaija is not only an unreliable source, it is a very unreliable source It is a gossip blog and pretty much self published. You can see here to verify this, as to the other sources, there is a subtle difference between a reliable source and a reliable piece. I believe Dan has already explained the modulations. In any case, as earlier stated I’m at work and would be giving a detailed response when I am back from work. Celestina007 (talk) 14:03, 21 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

David Porter (writer)

[edit]

Concerning the declined draft on David Porter (writer) https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Draft:David_Porter_(writer): The template says that the references "do not show significant coverage (not just passing mentions) about the subject in published, reliable, secondary sources that are independent of the subject (see the guidelines on the notability of people)."

Had Porter held a position in a university or other academic institution, the policy summarized here "Many scientists, researchers, philosophers and other scholars (collectively referred to as "academics" for convenience) are notably influential in the world of ideas without their biographies being the subject of secondary sources" would easily apply. Please take into consideration the fact that considerable notability is established by translations of some of his books into various European languages.

Reviews of his books are hard to come by for various reasons, the fact that they were published before most publications carrying reviews became available online. There is also considerable boycotting of publications by evangelical Christians in England. In the 1970s, I worked for a large public library, whose acquisition policy includeda wide range of British publishers on a blanket-order basis. Evangelical publishing houses were excluded from this policy. Their output was likely also ignored by reviewing publications. Porter was notable among evangelicals, as the obituary by Duriez indicates.

So I hope you will reconsider.2603:6010:4E42:500:D8A2:2925:629C:C58B (talk) 20:30, 25 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
