[edit]Alexander Duncan Campbell (born 11 January 1991), professionally known as AL, one half of AL and the Pigeon, is an Australian rapper from Sydney, Australia.
AL and the Pigeon’s debut album, The Album, was released to critical acclaim in 2019, with the lead single, It’s a Shame featuring Jazz singer Julian Kuo, making it to #1 on the triple j unearthed charts.
AL and the Pigeon have toured across Australia performing at festivals such as Splendour in the Grass and Spilt Milk .
Early Life
AL was born in Bangkok, Thailand and spent the first ten years of his life growing up in Jakarta, Indonesia due to his father’s profession at the time under the employ of Coca-Cola Amatil.
AL’s family is originally from Durban, South Africa, having migrated to Australia in the early 2000’s, to the northern suburbs of Sydney.
Career
2019: The Album
AL and the Pigeon released their first album, The Album, in 2019. The Album’s lead single, “It’s a Shame”, made it to #1 on the triple j unearthed charts. It was received to critical acclaim by Australian music publication, Happy Magazine. The Album’s artwork was inspired by the film, [[1]], with the single artwork illustrated by Sydney based street artist, Mariko Kono.
AL and the Pigeon’s debut album was five year in the making before its eventual release in 2019. The conceptual story behind The Album can be witnessed on each track, taking listeners on a journey filled with metaphorical characters.
In 2019, AL and the Pigeon, toured around Australia playing at a variety of venues to promote their debut album.
2020-2021
In the years following the release of their debut album, AL and the Pigeon released a string of singles, including “Just an Average Kinda Guy”, “Hey Teacher” and It’s a Shame. Pt II”. All singles were accompanied by original artwork from Sydney based illustrator Sylvia Leo.
2021-present
In April, 2021, AL and the Pigeon released their latest single, "Losing My Mind", which is inspired by the thought provoking and controversial 1995 French film La Haine.
In the single, AL and the Pigeon have retold the story of a “society falling apart” and through the song’s lyrics have brought to light the themes of prejudice, depression, racism and police brutality within an Australian setting. With the BLM movement in full force, AL mentioned “Losing My Mind is a cry for equality in Australia and the end to prejudice and police brutality towards people of colour”.

The Album is the debut studio album by AL and the Pigeon. The album was released on September 2019. It includes collaborations with Brendon Moon, Julian Kuo and Li-Mei. The entire album was produced by the Pigeon. Both the singles, “It’s a Shame” and “Phantasm” charted on the triple j unearthed charts.
