VG newsletter interview
Gary- We need an interview for the next issue of the VG project newletter, set to be delivered next week. Care to take up the offer this time? You are one of the project's most productive members, and I think our readers would like to learn more about you. (Guyinblack25 talk 06:22, 30 December 2011 (UTC))
- I'll do it next time for sure. This time is the worst time for me; I haven't been editing much over the past week, since it's the holidays and all. Gary King (talk · scripts) 03:39, 4 January 2012 (UTC)
- Sounds like a plan. We'll contact you for the next issue. (Guyinblack25 talk 02:17, 5 January 2012 (UTC))
Help?
Wondered if you could help me with this FAC (the only comment so far complained about MoS issues, but didn't ellaborate on it...). Also, wanted to know if you support (or could help) with a Retro Studios GT/FT (which will require to push Retro, Donkey Kong Country Returns and Mario Kart 7 to GA level). igordebraga ≠ 18:13, 13 January 2012 (UTC)
- I did the MOS issues, I think I caught all or at least most of the ellipsis and dashes. The article had some strange dash usage, like " -" to end a sentence. Sure, I guess I could lend a hand for a Retro Studios FT. I've added to the list. Gary King (talk · scripts) 19:02, 13 January 2012 (UTC)
- The Jaws commenter ellaborated some more! (and later I need to work at least on Retro, if only to keep the VG section of the GAN filled and/or give me valid WikiCup entries...) igordebraga ≠ 04:13, 15 January 2012 (UTC)
- I did a bit more on the Jaws article, but that's probably about all I will be doing, because the rest of the points require that I actually thoroughly read the article... which would take significantly more time, which I don't think I will be able to dedicate, especially since I'm not familiar with the article already. Gary King (talk · scripts) 05:30, 15 January 2012 (UTC)

WikiCup 2012 January newsletter
WikiCup 2012 is off to a flying start. At the time of writing, we have 112 contestants; comparable to last year, but slightly fewer than 2010. Signups will remain open for another week, after which time they will be closed for this year. Our currrent far-away leader is Grapple X (submissions), due mostly to his work on a slew of good articles about The X-Files; there remain many such articles waiting to be reviewed at good article candidates. Second place is currently held by Ruby2010 (submissions), whose points come mostly from good articles about television episodes, although good article reviews, did you knows and an article about a baroness round out the score. In third place is Jivesh boodhun (submissions), who has scored 200 points for his work on a single featured article, as well as points for work on others, mostly in the area of pop music. In all, nine users have 100 or more points. However, at the other end of the scale, there are still dozens of participants who are yet to score. Please remember to update your submission pages promptly!
The 64 highest scoring participants will advance to round 2 in a month's time. There, they will be split into eight random groups of eight. The score needed to reach the next round is not at all clear; last year, 8 points guaranteed a place. The year before, 20.
A few participants and their work warrant a mention for achieving "firsts" in this competition.
- 12george1 (submissions) was the first to score, with his good article review of Illinois v. McArthur.
- 12george1 (submissions) was also the first to score points for an article, thanks to his work on Hurricane Debby (1982)- now a good article. Tropical storms have featured heavily in the Cup, and good articles currently have a relatively fast turnaround time for reviews.
- Sp33dyphil (submissions) was the first to score points for a did you know, with Russian submarine K-114 Tula. Military history is another subject which has seen a lot of Cup activity.
- Sp33dyphil (submissions) is also the first person to successfully claim bonus points. Terminator 2: Judgment Day is now a good article, and was eligible for bonus points because the subject was covered on more than 20 other Wikipedias at the start of the competition. It is fantastic to see bonus points being claimed so early!
- Speciate (submissions) was the first to score points for an In the News entry, with Paedophryne amauensis. The lead image from the article was also used on the main page for a time, and it's certainly eye-catching!
- Jivesh boodhun (submissions) was the first to score points for a featured article, and is, at the moment, the only competitor to claim for one. The article, "Halo" (Beyoncé Knowles song), was also worth double points because of its wide coverage. While this is an article that Jivesh and others have worked on for some time, it is undeniable that he has put considerable work into it this year, pushing it over the edge.
We are yet to see any featured lists, featured topics or good topics, but this is unsurprising; firstly, the nomination processes with each of these can take some time, and, secondly, it can take a considerable amount of time to work content to this level. In a similar vein, we have seen only one featured article. The requirement that content must have been worked on this year to be eligible means that we did not expect to see these at the start of the competition. No points have been claimed for featured portals or pictures, but these are not content types which are often claimed; the former has never made a big impact on the WikiCup, while the latter has not done so since 2009's competition.
A quick rules clarification before the regular notices: If you are concerned that another user is claiming points inappropriately, please contact a judge to take a look at the article. Competitors policing one another can create a bad atmosphere, and may lead to inconsistencies and mistakes. Rest assured that we, the judges, are making an effort to check submissions, but it is possible that we will miss something. On a loosely related note: If you are concerned that your nomination, be it at good article candidates, a featured process or anywhere else, will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. However, please remember to continue to offer reviews at GAC, FAC and all the other pages that require them to prevent any backlogs which could otherwise be caused by the Cup. As ever, questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup and the judges are reachable on their talk pages, or by email. Good luck! Hi, Gary! I would like to know if you want to improve the article. It's in pretty awful shape and I think that it could use some improvement. Electroguv (talk) 09:40, 2 February 2012 (UTC)
- It IS in awful shape, and it would be difficult to improve it considering it's an overview of the entire series. So sorry, I am not interested in working on that particular article. Perhaps I would on a game in the series, though, perhaps ME3 with that coming up soon. Gary King (talk · scripts) 19:12, 2 February 2012 (UTC)
- Oops, sorry! I meant the first game in the series. Electroguv (talk) 13:18, 3 February 2012 (UTC)
- That's an easier article to work on, mostly due to the fact that it's more easy to structure and easy to find information, but I'd still prefer working on either ME3 or ME2, because ME3 will have plenty of information—particularly development content, which is the hardest to find—and ME2 because it's frankly a better game than ME1 (and also easier to find information for ME2 because it's more recent and more popular than ME1). Gary King (talk · scripts) 22:20, 3 February 2012 (UTC)
- I guess I'll be working alone then... Still, thanks for your time! Electroguv (talk) 06:02, 4 February 2012 (UTC)
- My suggestion is to spend time finding articles on the game's development, first. I suspect it'll be fairly hard to do, both because it's the oldest game in the series and because there is no way to differentiate it from other games in the series (for instance, no game has is subtitled, they're just "Mass Effect X"), so your best bet is to limit the article's date using Google's date limiter. If you manage to find a decent number of articles, I'd like it if you let me know what you find and if there's enough, then I promise that I'll spend as much time as needed to bring the article to FA quality—assuming you're willing to spend that kind of time on it. It ain't easy, but that would be one article that I'd enjoy working on. Most of the time will be spent on actually writing the article, but research is the hardest and determines if an FA is doable, and it can be done at your own pace, too. Gary King (talk · scripts) 06:13, 4 February 2012 (UTC)
- I have already found some juicy pieces which I'm currently transforming into prose for Development. Are you still interested in working on the article? Electroguv (talk) 12:19, 4 February 2012 (UTC)
- Only when the Development section is legitimately beefy enough to prepare for a run at FAC. I'm already working on a number of articles that eventually fell into a limbo state, because of insufficient research, etc. so I'd rather be confident that I can do an excellent job on an article before diving into it. Broken Sword 2 GA1
Hi! Could you please review Broken Sword II: The Smoking Mirror for GA? :) All the Best --Khanassassin (talk) 19:14, 4 February 2012 (UTC)

question about expand hidden archive js
Gary, I followed your instructions here: Wikipedia:Expand Hidden Templates. However, I can't get it to work in either Firefox or IE. I am using the vector skin? thanks for any help you can give me. This is a useful template, especially when trying to find something on some of the wikipedia talk pages where half the discussions are hatted. stmrlbs|talk 19:15, 12 February 2012 (UTC)
- Sorry, but I don't think I'll have time to work on the script. I know that my contributions would indicate that I have some time available, there are several reasons I'd rather spend my time on projects besides this script. The fact that it's not working and no one has mentioned that it's broken leads me to believe that it isn't a very popular script. Also, I'd have to rewrite the script from scratch, because Wikipedia's code has changed drastically since the script was first written. I suggest just asking at WP:VPT for some help, and you can mention my script so that others can perhaps update it for you. (Also, one of the bigger problems is that I believe there are multiple versions of the "collapse" code; I think that new code aims to unify them, but still, I'm not familiar with all of them at all anymore). Gary King (talk · scripts) 06:09, 13 February 2012 (UTC)
- thanks anyway. I will check out WP:VPT. stmrlbs|talk 01:47, 14 February 2012 (UTC)
Hi Gary. Would you kindly try it out again? The code was rewritten. For me, using this Image Siblings works in English Wikipedia, too. --Leyo 17:25, 14 February 2012 (UTC)
- Okay that works for me. I took a few refreshes for all the images to appear, though; initially, none of them showed up. Maybe the Commons server is just slow today. The gadget's usefulness would definitely be limited though, because not too many people work with images, and those who do are already quite a bit more familiar with scripts such as FurMe. Gary King (talk · scripts) 18:43, 14 February 2012 (UTC)
- It is usually not that slow. Compared to FurMe it is more for users in a reader's role. If they are interested in one image, they might be interested in similar images on Wikipedia and Commons, too. --Leyo 19:02, 15 February 2012 (UTC) PS. We might continue the discussion on Wikipedia:Gadget/proposals#Image Siblings.
- I don't know how easy or difficult it will be to drum up support for this gadget. So far, I'm the only person that responded, and I don't think it's particularly useful to a larger audience. I may be wrong, though, of course, because I don't personally bother with images around here. Gary King (talk · scripts) 17:15, 16 February 2012 (UTC)
Invitation to events: bot, template, and Gadget makers wanted
I thought you might want to know about some upcoming events where you can learn more about MediaWiki customization and development, extending functionality with JavaScript, the future of ResourceLoader and Gadgets, the new Lua templating system, how to best use the web API for bots, and various upcoming features and changes. We'd love to have power users, bot maintainers and writers, and template makers at these events so we can all learn from each other and chat about what needs doing.
Check out the Chennai event in March, the Berlin hackathon in June, the developers' days preceding Wikimania in July in Washington, DC, or any other of our events.
Best wishes! - Sumana Harihareswara, Wikimedia Foundation's Volunteer Development Coordinator. Please reply on my talk page, here or at mediawiki.org. Sumanah (talk) 16:21, 16 February 2012 (UTC)

WikiCup 2012 February newsletter
Round 1 is already over! The 64 highest scorers have progressed to round 2. Our highest scorer was Grapple X (submissions), again thanks mostly to a swathe of good articles on The X-Files. In second place was Tigerboy1966 (submissions), thanks an impressive list of did you knows about racehorses. Both scored over 400 points. Following behind with over 300 points were Ruby2010 (submissions), Cwmhiraeth (submissions), Miyagawa (submissions) and Casliber (submissions). February also saw the competition's first featured list: List of colleges and universities in North Dakota, from Ruby2010 (submissions). At the other end of the scale, 11 points was enough to secure a place in this round, and some contestants with 10 points made it into the round on a tiebreaker. This is higher than the 8 points that were needed last year, but lower than the 20 points required the year before. The number of points required to progress to round 3 will be significantly higher.
The remaining contestants have been split into 8 pools of 8, named A through H. Round two will finish in two months time on 28 April, when the two highest scorers in each pool, as well as the next 16 highest scorers, will progress to round 3. The pools were entirely random, so while some pools may end up being more competitive than others, this is by chance rather than design.
The judges would like to point out two quick rules reminders. First, any content promoted during the interim period (that is, on or after 27 February) is eligible for points in round 2. Second, any content worked on significantly this year is eligible for points if promoted in this round. On a related note, if you are concerned that your nomination, be it at good article candidates, a featured process or anywhere else, will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. However, please remember to continue to offer reviews at GAC, FAC and all the other pages that require them to prevent any backlogs which would otherwise be caused by the Cup. Help on Mass Effect
Gary, hi. I know that I may be asking you for that at a wrong time, but could you help me to get some info on how Mass Effect's universe was created? I have found a GameSpy interview and a Daily Telegraph article detailing the game's origins, but even if combined, they don't have enough info on that essential moment. Electroguv (talk) 16:22, 3 March 2012 (UTC)
- What's the link for those articles that you have so far? Also, there are not only good articles but videos as well for Mass Effect development. Here's one (the first of four) from the GDC; there are more from GDC, which are incredibly useful. I suggest searching for "mass effect gdc" on Google and YouTube for some good resources. Another good video on changes made from Mass Effect 1 to 2 is this one (which doesn't play for me at the moment; you could try searching for the video's title elsewhere to find a copy). I know these don't answer your question, although I did try to find an answer, but it isn't easy to find information on the early stuff for the series. I posted the links above for your benefit as for my own, for future reference. Gary King (talk · scripts) 02:59, 4 March 2012 (UTC)
- The links are [1] for GameSpy and [2] for The Daily Telegraph, if you are interested. Thanks for your help, I'll look into GDC videos as soon as I have some spare time. Electroguv (talk) 08:49, 4 March 2012 (UTC)
- If you feel discouraged due to a lack of sources for the series or the first game (as I mentioned earlier, you might have problems finding sources), the second game in the series might be a better starting point. Gary King (talk · scripts) 17:15, 4 March 2012 (UTC)
Main Page appearance
Hello! This is a note to let the main editors of the List of mergers and acquisitions by Microsoft know that it will be appearing as the main page featured list on April 2, 2012. You can view the TFL blurb at Wikipedia:Today's featured list/April 2, 2012. If you think it is necessary to change the main date, you can request it with the featured list directors The Rambling Man (talk · contribs), Dabomb87 (talk · contribs) or Giants2008 (talk · contribs), or at Wikipedia talk:Today's featured list. If the previous blurb needs tweaking, you might change it—following the instructions of the suggested formatting. If this article needs any attention or maintenance, it would be preferable if that could be done before its appearance on the Main Page so Wikipedia doesn't look bad. :D Thanks! Tbhotch.™ Grammatically incorrect? Correct it! See terms and conditions. 04:43, 29 March 2012 (UTC)

WikiCup 2012 March newsletter
We are over half way through the second round of this year's WikiCup and things are going well! Grapple X (submissions), of Pool B, is our highest overall scorer thanks to his prolific writings on television and film. In second place is Pool H's Cwmhiraeth (submissions), thanks primarily to work on biological articles, especially in marine biology and herpetology. Third place goes to Pool E's Casliber (submissions), who also writes primarily on biology (including ornithology and botany) and has already submitted two featured articles this round. Of the 63 contestants remaining, 15 (just under a quarter) have over 100 points this round. However, 25 are yet to score. Please remember to update your submission pages promptly. 32 contestants, the top two from each pool and the 16 next-highest scorers, will advance to round 3.
Congratulations to Matthewedwards (submissions), whose impressive File:Wacht am Rhein map (Opaque).svg became the competition's first featured picture. Also, congratulations to 12george1 (submissions), who claimed good topic points, our first contestant this year to do so, for his work on Wikipedia:Featured topics/1982 Atlantic hurricane season. This leaves featured topics and featured portals as the only sources of points not yet utilised. However, as recent statistics from Miyagawa (submissions) show, no source has yet been utilised this competition to the same extent it has been previously!
It has been observed that the backlogs at good article candidates are building up again. While the points for good article reviews will be remaining constant, any help that can be offered keeping the backlog down would be appreciated. On a related note, if you are concerned that your nomination, be it at good article candidates, a featured process or anywhere else, will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. Help with QuickEdit
Hello. I'm having issues with using QuickEdit in the Arabic Wikipedia; I keep having this "Loading data..." message but nothing shows up.. --Zack (talk) 13:00, 9 April 2012 (UTC)
- I assume it's likely because of the fact that Arabic is read from right-to-left. I'm not the original developer of QuickEdit, anyway; per the link you posted, the user is ASM on the German Wikipedia who originally created the script. The version I created was simply adapted for the English Wikipedia. Gary King (talk · scripts) 21:41, 9 April 2012 (UTC)

Script list replacement project
You're receiving this message because somehow I determined that you have some interest in Wikipedia's user scripts :)
Wikipedia's current list of user scripts is in bad shape, in that it is disorganized and contains many non-working or obsolete entries. It is therefore set to be deprecated, and a new draft list has been created to replace it. Perhaps you regularly use certain scripts, or have authored some yourself, that you know to be currently working and relevant. If so, you are invited to add them to the draft. Thanks! WikiCup 2012 April newsletter
Round 2 of this year's WikiCup is over, and so we are down to our final 32, in what could be called our quarter-finals. The two highest scorers from each pool, as well as the next 16 highest scorers overall, have entered round 3, while 30 participants have been eliminated. Pool B's Grapple X (submissions) remains our top scorer with over 700 points; he continues to gain high numbers of points for his good articles on The X-Files, but also Millennium and other subjects. He has also gained points for a good topic, a featured list, multiple good article reviews and several did you knows. Pool E's Casliber (submissions) was second, thanks primarily to his biology articles, with Pool H's Muboshgu (submissions) coming in third, with an impressive 46 did you knows, mostly on the subject of baseball. Casliber and Cwmhiraeth both scored over 600 points. Pools E and H proved our most successful, with each seeing 5 members qualify for round 3, while Pools C and D were the least, with each seeing only 3 reach round 3. However, it was Pool G which saw the lowest scoring, with a little under 400 points combined; Pool H, the highest scoring group, saw over triple that score.
65 points was the lowest qualifying score for round 3; significantly higher than the 11 required to enter round 2, and also higher than the 41 required to reach round 3 last year. However, in 2010, 100 points were needed to secure a place in round 3. 16 will progress to round 4. In round 3, 150 points was the 16th highest score, though, statistically, people tend to up their game a little in later rounds. Last year, 76 points secured a place, while in 2010, a massive 250 points were needed. Guessing how many points will be required is not easy. We still have not seen any featured portals or topics this year, but, on the subject of less common content types, a small correction needs to be made to the previous newsletter: File:Wacht am Rhein map (Opaque).svg, our first featured picture, was the work of both Matthewedwards (submissions) and Grandiose (submissions), the latter of whom has also gone on to score with File:Map of the Battle of Guam, 1944.svg. Bonus points also continue to roll in; this round, Ealdgyth (submissions) earned triple points for her good articles on William the Conqueror and the Middle Ages, Casliber and Cwmhiraeth both earned triple points for their work on Western Jackdaw, now a good article, Dana Boomer (submissions) earned triple points for her work on lettuce and work by Stone (submissions) to ready antimony for good article status earned him triple points. Jarry1250 (submissions) managed to expand Vitus Bering far enough for a did you know, which was also worth triple points. All of these highly important topics featured on 50 or more Wikipedias at the start of the year.
An article on the WikiCup in the Wikimedia Blog, "Improving Wikipedia with friendly competition", was posted at the end of April. This may be of interest to those who are signed up to this newsletter, as well as serving as another way to draw attention to our project. Also, we would again like to thank Jarry1250 (submissions) and Stone (submissions), for continued help behind the scenes. Link intermediate revisions tweak
This script currently only returns a maximum of 10 revisions, because that's the default "revisions" query limit. You can override this limit by specifying "rvlimit" with the query. You can see the change here: User:Equazcion/link intermediate revisions.js. This corrects the intermediate revisions link so they're all shown. I thought you might like to tweak your script accordingly. PS. I'm a big fan of your scripts :) Equazcion (talk) 17:58, 8 May 2012 (UTC)

- It could help to call the API directly instead of through the script to debug this further. I don't have time to do that right now, but maybe later... Gary King (talk · scripts) 03:16, 16 May 2012 (UTC)
- I was going to put in the API URL directly using your diff, but then I noticed your diff seems to work when I replace "cur" in the "diff" token with the actual revision ID: [3] (though there seems to be a large delay before the link appears). Having trouble getting it to break again on other diffs now (even others that use "cur" are working now). I'd say maybe it's an intermittent server issue, but your particular Mario Kart diff breaks consistently. Equazcion (talk) 04:15, 16 May 2012 (UTC)
- Weird. A pretty minor issue for now, then, I guess. Thanks for the help! Gary King (talk · scripts) 04:19, 16 May 2012 (UTC)
- No problem. FYI: Wikipedia:Village_pump_(technical)#Problem with the site -- Kaldari's comment looks like it might explain this. Equazcion (talk) 05:39, 16 May 2012 (UTC)

- It's on a few sites; I think Comedy Central issued a press release or something. Here's one source. Gary King (talk · scripts) 03:31, 26 May 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks. I've added it to the article. Vanobamo (talk) 20:05, 26 May 2012 (UTC).

July 2012 Study of authors of health-related Wikipedia pages
Dear Author/Gary King
My name is Nuša Farič and I am a Health Psychology MSc student at the University College London (UCL). I am currently running a quantitative study entitled Who edits health-related Wikipedia pages and Why? I am interested in the editorial experience of people who edit health-related Wikipedia pages. I am interested to learn more about the authors of health-related pages on Wikipedia and what motivations they have for doing so. I am currently contacting the authors of randomly selected articles and I noticed that someone at this address recently edited an article on Psychotherapy. I would like to ask you a few questions about you and your experience of editing the above mentioned article and or other health-related articles. If you would like more information about the project, please visit my user page (http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/User:Hydra_Rain) and if interested, please reply via my talk page or e-mail me on nusa.faric.11@ucl.ac.uk. Also, others interested in the study may contact me! If I do not hear back from you I will not contact this account again. Thank you very much in advance. Hydra Rain (talk) 19:17, 19 July 2012 (UTC)

TFA
Dude, I'd have loved a heads-up on this. I've never had anything I've worked on at TFA before! Here's to the optimism that it might get there. -- Sabre (talk) 20:35, 18 August 2012 (UTC)
- Yeah sorry, I should have done that. I just checked my user page recently though, and happened to notice this one was a ten-year anniversary so I just jumped at the chance. I also didn't want to make it seem at all like I would be canvassing in any way for votes on it, since at the moment it's got zero supports/opposes, because otherwise I might have brought it up at WP:VG like I would sometimes do for FACs to get a little activity going (but since TFAR is more straight-up voting while FAC is more about criticism, it's best not to do that). This is a pretty special anniversary at ten years, though, and it's got four points (we're very lucky that there wasn't a recent video game TFA because those tend to occur fairly frequently, although not as much I guess because people got sick of those), so this was one of the submissions I made that got more points than usual. I'm optimistic that it'll go through! Gary King (talk · scripts) 21:26, 18 August 2012 (UTC)

Disambiguation link notification for August 19
Hi. When you recently edited Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page The Verge (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

WikiProject Good articles (Participant Clean-Up)
Hello, you are receiving this message because you are currently a participant of WikiProject Good articles. Since the creation of the WikiProject, over 200 user's have joined to help review good article nominations and contribute to other sections of the WikiProject. Over the years, several of these users have stopped reviewing articles and/or have become inactive with the project but are still listed as participates. In order to improve communications with other participants and get newsletters sent out faster (newsletters will begin to be sent out monthly starting in October) all participants that are no longer active with the WikiProject will be removed from the participants list.
If you are still interested in being a participant for this WikiProject, please sign your user name here and please help review some articles so we can reduce the size of the backlog. If you are no longer interested, you do not need to sign your name anywhere and your name will be removed from the participants list after the deadline. Remember that even if you are not interested at this time, you can always re-add your name to the list whenever you want. The deadline to sign your name on the page above will be November 1, 2012. Thank-you. EdwardsBot (talk) 13:26, 22 September 2012 (UTC)
Update for: WikiProject Good articles (Participant Clean-Up)
Sorry for having to send out a second message but a user has brought to my attention that a point mentioned in the first message should be clarified. If user's don't sign on this page, they will be moved to an "Inactive Participants" list rather then be being removed from the entire WikiProject. Sorry for any confusion.--Dom497 (talk)15:16, 22 September 2012 (UTC)

I want import this gadget into Spanish Wikipedia. Do I change something besides this?
language = { // relative terms 'Today' : 'hoy', 'Yesterday' : 'ayer', 'Tomorrow' : 'mañana', 'last' : 'último', 'this' : 'este', // days of the week 'Monday' : 'Lunes', 'Tuesday' : 'Martes', 'Wednesday' : 'Miércoles', 'Thursday' : 'Jueves', 'Friday' : 'Viernes', 'Saturday' : 'Sábado', 'Sunday' : 'Domingo', // months of the year 'January' : 'Enero', 'February' : 'Febrero', 'March' : 'Marzo', 'April' : 'Abril', 'May' : 'Mayo', 'June' : 'Junio', 'July' : 'Julio', 'August' : 'Agosto', 'September' : 'Septiembre', 'October' : 'Octubre', 'November' : 'Noviembre', 'December' : 'Diciembre', // difference words 'ago' : 'hace', 'from now' : 'from now', // date phrases 'year' : 'año', 'years' : 'años', 'month' : 'mes', 'months' : 'meses', 'day' : 'día', 'days' : 'días' };
The format of the English Wikipedia is 01:24, 6 December 2010 (UTC) and of the Spanish is 21:09 3 may 2012 (UTC). The month are always abbreviated with 3 letters.--Vivaelcelta {discussion · contributions} 21:07, 27 October 2012 (UTC)
- Does it also become lowercased as well, based on how you wrote it? Because that would be strange. Perhaps try simplifying things first by removing any special characters, such as those with accents? You could be extra thorough and try changing one term at a time until you find the problem. I personally cannot see why the script would be doing that. The month terms are used in only one function and that function looks fine. If it was shortening months to three characters then it would do so in English as well. Gary King (talk · scripts) 02:47, 28 October 2012 (UTC)
- Yes, the months are always lowercased. But I don't understand well you, because my English is regular or bad and my level programming is also bad. Please, explain better. I think that the problem is the comma after time, because there isn't comma in Spanish. --Vivaelcelta {discussion · contributions} 20:15, 28 October 2012 (UTC)
- Which comma after time are you referring to? If you're talking about the many commas in that piece of code that you pasted, then those are all required and have nothing to do with the language. In my suggestion, what I was saying is that since you were able to change all the words, what I think you should do instead is change them one by one until the problem appears, then you will know exactly what you changed that caused the problem. This will help narrow it down. Gary King (talk · scripts) 17:14, 29 October 2012 (UTC)
- In English after hour (time) there is a comma, but not in Spanish.--Vivaelcelta {discussion · contributions} 19:53, 30 October 2012 (UTC)

- Okay I see what you mean now. Did you manually remove the comma from the script in the Spanish version? Perhaps that could be causing this problem? Try copying the script again, then changing the words, but don't remove the commas just yet, and see if the problem still exists? Gary King (talk · scripts) 20:09, 30 October 2012 (UTC)
- Here I write the date in English with and without comma, and in Spanish with and without comma. The gadget worked in English with comma. After I try in my vector without comma and it worked in English without comma. After I change all words "January" by "ene", but the gadget change "January" by "ene" in English date. Finally, I only change "January" by "ene" in the first part (the above example). I don't know if it detect the months name with code, but I don't know the problem.--Vivaelcelta {discussion · contributions} 19:51, 4 November 2012 (UTC)
- I haven't edited the code in a while, which is why I seem a bit unfamiliar with it (the last major edit I made to it was probably two years ago or so). However, I believe the problem is how the script looks for timestamps. It uses this format:
/(\d\d):(\d\d), (\d{1,2}) ([A-Z][a-z]+) (\d{4}) \(UTC\)/
which essentially means it will find timestamps in the format "12:34, 1 January 2012", so this needs to be modified for the Spanish Wikipedia. Try the following instead (replace that code with this one):/(\d\d):(\d\d) (\d{1,2}) ([a-z]+) (\d{4}) \(UTC\)
It should match the format:18:36 5 nov 2012 (UTC)
The([a-z]+)
part will have to include accents, like([a-zé]+)

Hello
I'd like to update you about the status of an article you created. The article God of War (series) which you created (which was a redirect before you created it) on February 14, 2009 was promoted to GA-Class on July 31, 2012 and after a Peer Review, it will be nominated for FAC. --JDC808 ♫ 15:15, 31 October 2012 (UTC)
Hey...
You might have been asked this earlier; have you ever thought of becoming an administrator? The additional tools might assist you in making this project better. Just thought I'll stop by and ask. Thanks. Wifione Message 14:37, 3 December 2012 (UTC)
- Yeah I've been asked a few times before. I'm not against being an admin; I just want to be able to have the time to dedicate to a proper RfA rather than half-assing it. I'm not in a hurry to do it, but I'll probably do it some time soon. Thanks for the interest. Gary King (talk · scripts) 18:17, 3 December 2012 (UTC)
- If you're up to it, I could nominate you in the coming days. Kind regards. Wifione Message 05:05, 4 December 2012 (UTC)

Hand-coding
Hey all :).
I'm dropping you a note because you've been involved in dealing with feedback from the Article Feedback Tool. To get a better handle on the overall quality of comments now that the tool has become a more established part of the reader experience, we're undertaking a round of hand coding - basically, taking a sample of feedback and marking each piece as inappropriate, helpful, so on - and would like anyone interested in improving the tool to participate :).
You can code as many or as few pieces of feedback as you want: this page should explain how to use the system, and there is a demo here. Once you're comfortable with the task, just drop me an email at okeyeswikimedia.org and I'll set you up with an account :).
If you'd like to chat with us about the research, or want live tutoring on the software, there will be an office hours session on Monday 17 December at 23:00 UTC in #wikimedia-office connect. Hope to see some of you there! Thanks, Okeyes (WMF) (talk) 23:17, 14 December 2012 (UTC)
