Richard Yelland
hello Ganbaruby — I see you were the last person to make edits to big wave surfer Greg Long’s Wikipedia page. I’m a director and documentary filmmaker named Richard Yelland and I made an award-winning film about Greg that should be listed on his filmography: “Sine Qua Non: The Psychology of Big Wave Surfing with Greg Long.” It was a best documentary winner in the Ocean Sports category at the BLUE Ocean International Film Festival. It was also a “top 10” best-selling sports film on iTunes for several weeks. So it should definitely be listed. Would you be the one to make that change? Finally someone was writing a Wiki page on me, with details on my Emmy nominated directorial work, which includes a number of award-winning documentaries: “Between Two Harbors” ; “Floating: The Nathan Gocke Story “ “The Long Way Back” & “12 Miles North: The Nick Gabaldon Story. He wasn’t experienced with how to write on the Wiki platform so never got the draft of “Richard Yelland, Director” posted. Would you be able to help this person with the completion of the Wiki entry? Thanks for your help on both fronts.
- First request is done. I'll have to refuse the second request, since I do not know enough about you or film in general to be writing articles about it. Do not badger other users to write articles about you either, as most will most likely say no for the same reason and that it's a possible conflict of interest. ◢ Ganbaruby! (Say hi!) 07:47, 28 June 2020 (UTC)
- Thank you for correction to Greg Long page — adding the Sine Qua Non film. I appreciate it! Regarding the second request — there was no “badgering” here. Sorry that you felt that way. There is a writer from quite a while back who was working on an R Yelland filmmaker page for Wiki. I was alerted that they had run into roadblocks — as you yourself admitted it being challenging to get the format right. My question to you was posed already understanding potential conflicts of interest: do you help other writers create entries? You say you aren’t familiar with posting about film but are making edits to Greg Long’s filmography. You are also making edits to a surfer’s page although I’m not sure you have much experience writing about surfing. My point is that WIKI seems to be more about using the appropriate formatting and footnoting. It is highly specific. If a writer — not myself — comes to you for help , can you help ? If not, I would appreciate any recommendations on editors who might be able to help. I would pass this info on to the person who has been working on this entry. Thanks again!
- Formatting and all the manual of style stuff is the easy part. The hard part is conducting research about the subject, being able to identify and use reliable sources, and writing an article in a completely neutral point of view. Any experienced editor around here can fix formatting on any article, be it a surfer or a filmmaker, but we can only do so much in terms of content, especially if it suffers from fatal flaws like notability or is completely promotional. Now, I have no idea what Draft:Richard Yelland used to look like; the reason for deletion was WP:CSD#G13, which is that the draft wasn't edited in 6 months, so I don't know who initially wrote the draft. If said editor were to approach me with a completed draft with sources, then yes, I would try to proofread and make it up to par with the manual of style to the best of my ability. If said editor were to ask me to write the article, I would decline for my reasoning above. ◢ Ganbaruby! (Say hi!) 02:57, 29 June 2020 (UTC)

Crie family substantive artifact link removal
This is a link to my page where I show and detail artifacts from the Crie family in America. These are the ONLY original family artifacts from the forced conscription ofd John and William Crie off the streets of Glasgow to America where they remained after the war was over. I do believe they are of important historical interest to the CREE/CRIE etc family and do not know why you would remove them. You can actually contact me at karlpete@yahoo.com since my Capcha attempts have been failing recently, making it impossible for me to log in. After I wrote that, I discovered that my "helpful" login manager had screwed up my password, so now at least I can properly login as southsidesquare. I do think it is a silly name but, like yours, I probably will not change it. Southsidesquare (talk) 04:38, 29 June 2020 (UTC)

Hello, can you assist?
Hi Ganbaruby,
Can you assist me? I'm trying to add a photo and website to Reno Perez wiki. I'm his manager/PR, as you can see by the website. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ickene (talk • contribs) 14:47, 2 July 2020 (UTC)
- @Ickene: You'll first have to upload a photo of Perez, preferably at Wikimedia's Upload Wizard. You should also review Wikipedia's conflict of interest policy, since as Perez's manager, it would be very difficult for you to present material about him in a neutral manner. Additionally, I'm concerned that the article does not meet the notability guideline for musicians. The article says that he has three singles charted, but it's unclear which chart (Billboard?) that is, and a quick Google search doesn't reveal anything. At its current state, the article could be listed for deletion. ◢ Ganbaruby! (Say hi!) 15:17, 2 July 2020 (UTC)

Dulcitone
Hello Ganbaruby,
Thank you for reviewing my recent edit on the dulcitone page. I was saddened to see that what I had written wasn't suitable for the page, however, I can understand that it may not have been appropriate.
I was wondering if there was another way of including Ivan Campo on the page?
Since there are other references to the dulcitone being used in popular music, I would like there to be some form of reference to it being used in Ivan Campo's music. Would you be willing to suggest another way to make this a possibility?
The link I originally posted should provide you with the proof that the band Ivan Campo definitely make use of the instrument. We have also used it for a live performance on public radio (BBC 6 music) and can provide you with any other links if necessary.
We are very fond of the instrument, and the history that goes with it, and it would be an honour for us to be included on the dulcitone page in some way.
Let me know what your thoughts are.
Thank you for your time.
Best, Ben

- Hi Ben, unfortunately there's no way your band can be in the article. In fact, I've deleted other mentions of the instrument, since none of them were attributed to reliable soruces. The information would be better listed if someone were to create an article on your band, but as of now I don't think Ivan Campo fulfills WP:BAND and therefore shouldn't have an article written about it. On a separate note, since you are part of the band, you should take a look at Wikipedia's conflict of interest policy. You are very strongly discouraged from editing about yourself or your organization, as it is very difficult for you to present information in a neutral manner. ◢ Ganbaruby! DYK for Gaoshi Shrine
On 8 July 2020, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Gaoshi Shrine, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Gaoshi Shrine is the first Shinto shrine constructed in Taiwan after World War II? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Gaoshi Shrine. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Gaoshi Shrine), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Ruth Clayton article changes
Hi Ganbaruby, Thanks for the explanation about the infobox thumbnail convention. I understand and revision and will leave it as is. However the revised article has lost another image completely and rearranged one other. Was that intentional or accidental? I thought I'd better ask before putting it back. Many thanks. - @AntRDean73: I was trying to revert your attempt at adding a hatnote, but accidentally reverted too many edits, so I'm sorry about that. However, you really do not need the hatnote (the "other uses" note on the top of the page) for a variety of reasons, one of which is WP:NOTAMB. ◢ Ganbaruby! (Say hi!) 09:30, 10 July 2020 (UTC)

Reverting my change to the Goleta Depot
I am bad at adding the proper format to wiki articles so I tend to leave links to sources on the articles in the hopes that someone else can better integrate the information. The link I left is a link to my cities historical website. I currently live in Goleta and the site is listed as easy to read history. Here is the link I left. https://goletahistory.com/goleta-train-depot/ If you don't mind I was going to link various pages from the site to wiki articles. If this is too cumbersome I understand. Is there a place I can look to figure out how to add info properly? This website also includes photos from the time period, they might be fun to add too.
- I'm sorry, but the link you added seems to be a self-published source, which is not considered reliable by Wikipedia, and as such can't be used in a citation. For the same reason, it doesn't belong in the "External links" section either. As for the images, they may be uploaded to Commons if and only if there's an appropriate copyright for Wikipedia to host it. See Wikipedia:Uploading images on how to do so. ◢ Ganbaruby! Swaminarayan Sampraday
Hello I would like to get some help to make the following edit to the Swaminarayan Sampraday article.
Currently the section in dispute reads as follows:
Gunatit Samaj
The Yogi Divine Society was established in 1966, by Dadubhai Patel and his brother, Babubhai after they were excommunicated from BAPS by Yogiji Maharaj. The brothers were expelled after it was discovered that Dadubhai illicitly collected and misappropriated funds and, falsely claiming that he was acting on the organization’s behalf, led a number of young women to renounce their families and join his ashram under his leadership.[1]: 72 [2][3]: 18–19 After Dadubhai’s death in 1986, an ascetic named Hariprasad Swami became the leader of the Yogi Divine Society. The Yogi Divine Society became known as the Gunatit Samaj and consists of several wings: namely, Yogi Divine Society, The Anoopam Mission, and The Gunatit Jyot.[1]: 72–73, 127 [2]
There is a proposal to change it to this based on the following sources:
https://www.google.com/books/edition/Acts_of_Faith/Sgs9BAAAQBAJ?hl=en&gbpv=1&dq=%22dadubhai+patel%22&pg=PT170&printsec=frontcover https://www.google.com/books/edition/An_Introduction_to_Swaminarayan_Hinduism/tPkexi2EhAIC?gbpv=1&bsq=dadubhai%20patel%20was
- The Change (Update Section):
- The Yogi Divine Society was established in 1966, by Dadubhai Patel and his brother, Babubhai after they were excommunicated from BAPS by Yogiji Maharaj. The brothers were expelled after it was discovered that Dadubhai illicitly collected and misappropriated funds and, falsely claiming that he was acting on the organization’s behalf, led a number of young women to renounce their families and join his ashram under his leadership.[1]: 72 [2][4]: 18–19 Dadubhai believed Narayanswarupdas Swami, also known as Pramukh Swami, was against him and persuaded the BAPS trustees to remove him.[5][6] After Dadubhai’s death in 1986, an ascetic named Hariprasad Swami became the leader of the Yogi Divine Society. The Yogi Divine Society became known as the Gunatit Samaj and consists of several wings: namely, Yogi Divine Society, The Anoopam Mission, and The Gunatit Jyot.[1]: 72–73, 127 [2] Yogiji Maharaj's images and prior gurus are displayed at all Gunatit Samaj temples.[7]
Is this something that is allowed or not?

Regarding Enlightenment Foundation Libraries
Hi! You just reverted by change for a linke to the Pawn-programming language with a note about it not being appropriate? Did you even follow the link? Becasue it most certainly are appropriate - only reason I linked directly was because the language does not have it's own Wikipedia page, and if you reverted the text too, then well... sigh. Btw, check that link out - and it will verify that my correction to the text was fine too... They have confused the _actual_ source of the pawn vm with some language they called "SMALL" when in fact it's from the Small-C compiler.
- You were reverted for your addition of external links inside the article body, which is discouraged per our external links guideline. Links to pages outside of Wikipedia should be kept to a mininum within the "External links" section at the bottom of the page if it's very relevant to the subject, which yours was not. Arnprior Packers
Out of respect, please return the content I have added. Citations probably won't work well because of the time period and infancy of the Internet at the time. This was created by me about me and I am a former Arnprior Packer - but their stats and data and own website doesn't go back that far. I added this bc I thought it would be cool to have former players add something about their hockey life after the Packers.

- No. Everything on Wikipedia must be attributed to reliable sources. If a source does not exist, we have no way of verifying the authenticity of the information, and therefore should not be added. Also, writing autobiographies, even if in a section, is considered a conflict of interest and is strongly discouraged. ◢ Ganbaruby! (Say hi!) 04:43, 13 August 2020 (UTC)

On Wikipedia page of FunPlus
Hi Ganbaruby,
Nice to e-meet you in a weird situation. I'm Gabriel Liu, the Game & Esports Analyst of FunPlus. I’ve noticed that one of our colleagues made some changes under the FunPlus page, and it was be seen as "spamming"/"promoting". I understand that and would upload a more proper version with references and citations.
However, according to our status quo, we do need to make some fundamental changes to the FunPlus page. And it would be complicated for us to give out references and/or citations. For example, now FunPlus's HQ is officially in Singapore, and since we don't have any press releases on it, we cannot change the HQ part on the wiki. The same thing happens to the game product sessions, Family Farm is no longer our game, we also cannot give out proof unless we disclose the confidential documents - which is also not very possible from my perspective. Due to our neglect, there are many more issues on the page.
I'm writing to ask if it's possible for you and the whole Wikipedia community, to help us review the version we provide - then upload it? We want to make the page more relevant to our situation as quickly as possible and to avoid potential losses due to misinformation.
Thanks,
All the best,
Gabriel Liu — Preceding unsigned comment added by GabrielYXLiu (talk • contribs) 09:14, 17 August 2020 (UTC)
- @GabrielYXLiu: Thanks for reaching out for clarification. You should first familiarize yourself with Wikipedia's conflict of interest guideline, most importantly that you are strongly advised to not edit FunPlus directly. You may instead file edit requests on the article's talk page for any improvments you want to implement. Also understand that everything listed in an article must be verifiable, which means information should be attributed to reliable sources independent of the company. You could probably get away with citing your own website for basic information that is not unduly self-serving (eg. based in Singapore), but do not cite your website or PR releases for anything else. If it doesn't have a source, it shouldn't be listed on the page. Lastly, be aware of copyright violations since your colleague's text seems to closely resemble the text on your website. ◢ Ganbaruby! Hi
Thanks for the nice welcome message and looking at my proposed edit on the China article! It's my first time so still getting the hang of it. I happened to land on the China page and was reading the general overview and thought what that person added seemed so politically charged and out of place, so I decided to make an account and give it a shot. Thanks again!

Hi, I was working to improve the article and you removed my edits while I was adding citations with the comment that I did not add citations.
This is not very inclusive or constructive. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.74.84.197 (talk) 07:19, 26 August 2020 (UTC)
Thank you for not immediately deleting my comment after I finished editing it the second time!
- Whenever you hit the "Publish changes", your changes go live for the entire world to see; therefore, by that time you are expected to deliver a "finished product", which means it should be properly cited already. There is no way for other editors to know if it's still a work in progress or not, and unsourced material may be removed immediately. Kenosha Riots Talk Page
Hi, I seem to be unable to edit the talk page anymore, I'm not sure if user Aquillion somehow disabled me. This was after they reverted your edit, and repeated their simple to verify, totally incorrect claim, that only the USAToday article refers to police vehicles. This, after I had responded to them to please check the CBC article again for the sentence I quoted. Aquillion further claims, as a basis for their revert, that it is clearly controversial suggestion, when in fact they are the only one to find it controversial (other discussion is as to the exact term, "vehicle", "car", "tactical vehicle" etc). Lastly, if there is some pedantic reason that my understanding of the source articles is open to interpretation, it is easy enough to verify my understanding by watching the video they each include - it shows only vehicles, exactly as described. 108.15.33.17 (talk) 14:24, 27 August 2020 (UTC)
- The talk page is currently semi-protected until tomorrow, as requested at WP:RFPP (permalink: [1]). I'm not going to further discuss the dispute here, and I've left another comment at the talk page. ◢ Ganbaruby! (Say hi!) 14:49, 27 August 2020 (UTC)
Promotional Post Re-do
I had the following edit removed because it was promotional (and I agree).
Since 1996 the space has been occupied by Mulvaney's B&L, a restaurant specializing in hand-crafted New American cuisine, a farm-to-table devotee that celebrates the efforts of the grower→s, ranchers, brewers and winemakers. The interior of the firehouse has been subdivided to include a dining room, main and expediting kitchens and open areas for food prep, as well as private dining rooms.
Would the following be acceptable?
Since 1996 the space has housed a restaurant Mulvaney's B&L. The interior of the firehouse has been modified to accommodate dining rooms and other restaurant services. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Davidh1970 (talk • contribs) 22:14, 27 August 2020 (UTC)
- @Davidh1970: That would be fine, but do you have a reliable, independent source to back up your claim? ◢ Ganbaruby! (Say hi!) 22:24, 27 August 2020 (UTC)
@Ganbaruby: Aside from their webpage and having been there several times? No. It's OK, I just stumbled on the page and though it be interesting to note that it now housed a restaurant now and wasn't an abandoned old firehouse. I'll forget about it. Davidh1970 (talk) 22:35, 27 August 2020 (UTC)

Hi, Ganbaruby! Regarding your thoughts on my reference to Janine di Giovanni's Bernard Lown Humaritarian Award, please reconsider. The award is one of the most prestigious honors given by the University of Maine. Di Giovanni's selection was the subject of this recent newspaper article https://bangordailynews.com/2020/08/25/news/bangor/war-correspondent-janine-di-giovanni-named-recipient-of-university-of-maine-2020-humanitarian-award/. If you do not want to list it as I presented, would you list the award among di Giovanni's other awards noted on her Wikipedia page? Thanks for your consideration. Dodgeretti14 Dodgeretti14 (talk) 15:58, 28 August 2020 (UTC)
- @Dodgeretti14: Sorry for the late reply, but in short, no. Anyone can hand out an award, but not all belong on a list of awards since they don't meet Wikipedia's notability guideline (see WP:LSC). Too many non-notable awards make the article sound promotional and therefore failing WP:NPOV. ◢ Ganbaruby! (Say hi!) 05:23, 31 August 2020 (UTC)

- Neither of those are reliable sources. Pixar Post seems to be a self-published source with little editorial oversight, and the first link is a web forum. Look for official press releases or news organizations instead. ◢ Ganbaruby! (Say hi!) 22:01, 3 September 2020 (UTC)

- Yes. There should only be one external link on the page, which goes to the official site in the External Links section (see WP:EL). Lambda Phi Epsilon edits
Hi Ganbaruby, you recently removed edits I provided to the Lambda Phi Epsilon Fraternity page, claiming that there were unreliable sources used. Can you tell me which sources you believe are unreliable and why? Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Catbunny12 (talk • contribs) 21:41, 10 September 2020 (UTC)
Hi Ganbaruby, I've looked over the reliable sources page you linked me. Although you said that social media and press releases are not reliable sources, the links that I provided to social media and press releases were directly from the organization of Lambda Phi Epsilon themselves, thus, making them a primary document. Additionally, these sources and edits are not breaking news because LPhiE themselves has had these documents published for weeks already. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Catbunny12 (talk • contribs) 21:50, 10 September 2020 (UTC)
- @Catbunny12: First of all, your Google Drive reference isn't considered reliable, as there's no way to verify the authenticity of whatever's in it. Some other claims didn't have a source either, like the @anon.co2020 bit or the no announcement bit at the end. Primary sources should only be used in moderation; in general, we want to use secondary, independent sources to back up your claims. ◢ Ganbaruby! (Say hi!) 21:56, 10 September 2020 (UTC)

Cbliu changed all the Green line stations to Hanyu Pinyin
Hey- Cbliu changed all the Taichung metro stations to Hanyu Pinyin, despite the fact that the city council of Taichung said they were using Tongyong Pinyin for naming at least some of the stations. (for instance, Jioujhangli metro station was changed to Jiuzhangli metro station by Cbliu). Is there some way to revert this? Thanks for any help! I find that the only way to reason with Hanyu Pinyin advocates is to add copious citations proving that a non-Hanyu Pinyin spelling is being used- see my work on the districts of Kaohsiung and Tainan. Geographyinitiative (talk) 13:51, 15 September 2020 (UTC)
- @Geographyinitiative: I know they did. I'm not in a hurry to move it again because the names are not finalized and have changed many times already. The Tongyong announcement was quite a while ago; the August 24 update is that the names will "follow existing road signage" [2], which is confusingly in Hanyu Pinyin. The names will still go through two more review before being finalized, so for now I think it's ok if we just have redirects and both transcriptions on the side. Sometime near opening I'll go through all of them to make sure they're correct. ◢ Ganbaruby! (Say hi!) 21:32, 15 September 2020 (UTC)

Template edit page
Hi Ganbaruby! I wonder if you could go on the edit page for the template with the title "Western classical music periods and eras" and find out the "name", which is apparently different from the title. The name I'm looking for appears near the top of the edit page just under "{{sidebar". The only reason I haven't been on the edit page myself is I can no longer go there simply by clicking the "T" button at the bottom of the displayed template. It's a long story but it seems to be a result of the accident I had about a week ago trying to edit the original title. I can now only access the edit page by typing its full url (including the name, but not the title) into the address bar at the very top of my computer screen. Because of the mishap, the only url that appears automatically is that of the aborted template which has the title placed where the name should be, so all I'm getting instead of the edit page is a notice that the unwanted template has been removed. Many thanks!ChrisCarss Former24.108.99.31 (talk) 09:50, 16 September 2020 (UTC)

Sojourner Truth -- Edits re Elizabeth Catlett Statue
Hi Ganbaruby, thank you for considering my edits so promptly!
So that the vandals don't have the last word, I think it's important to include the statue's restoration and current installation at the Crocker Art Museum. Let me know if you want me to ask Helena to email you directly.
Also I found mention of the statue on the Crocker's Facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/crockerart/photos/a.135957062088/10158642655422089/?type=3

- @Olivebranch2: No, that doesn't qualify as a source either, as private emails fundamentally fail Wikipedia's verifiability policy, as there's no editorial oversight involved, and not everyone has access to this source. Facebook is also not a reliable source. Instead, check the reliable sources guideline to see what kind of sources qualify. ◢ Ganbaruby! (Say hi!) 01:09, 1 October 2020 (UTC)

Dear Sir, Thank you for reaching out to me for clarification. First of all, I would like to apologize for the confusion. As a first time Wikipedia author, I unintentionally created duplicate account while I was setting up the page. In the past, I authorized one of my PhD students/research scholars to edit on my behalf on my account 'Mramam'. I didn't even realize that my recent edits were from that duplicate account. I am still learning how to handle Wikipedia account and it can be a little intimidating for a non-tech savvy person like me. I am so sorry for the confusion this may have caused and I will take steps to deactivate the unused account and will make sure I only edit through the original account 'Bmantha'.
