[edit]

I understand that you are a native speaker of Bengali. I would be most grateful if you could translate something for me in to English from Bangladesh's Ministry of Foreign affairs please. I understand it is about Kosovo. [1] Regards Ijanderson (talk) 18:21, 5 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks anyway. I asked several Bengali speakers to get a quick response. Regards Ijanderson (talk) 02:50, 6 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Subrata Ghoshroy

[edit]

Works produced by the U.S. Government are definitionally in the Public Domain, so I think it's not technically a copyvio for material to have been copied from a house.gov biography. I'm not sure if that's a good enough reason to restore it, but in the absence of replacement material my inclination would be to do so. What are your thoughts? jhawkinson (talk) 14:22, 3 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Did you vandalize the Refugees section of Rohingya people sometime in March 2009?

[edit]

Despite earlier efforts by the UN, the vast majority of Rohingya refugees have remained in Bangladesh, unable to return because of the regime in Burma. Now they face problems in Bangladesh where they do not receive support from the government.[1] In February 2009, many Rohingya refugees were helped by Acehnese sailors in the Strait of Malacca, after 21 days at sea.[2]

Over the years thousands of Rohingya also have fled to Thailand and many of them live in Thai camps near the Myanmar border. There are roughly 111,000 refugees housed in 9 camps along the Thai-Myanmar border. There have been charges that groups of them have been shipped and towed out to open sea from Thailand, and left there. In February 2009 there was evidence of the Thai army towing a boatload of 190 Rohingya refugees out to sea. A group of refugees rescued by Indonesian authorities also in February 2009 told harrowing stories of being captured and beaten by the Thai military, and then abandoned at open sea. By the end of February there were reports that of a group of 5 boats were towed out to open sea, of which 4 boats sank in a storm, and 1 boat washed up on the shore. February 12th 2009 Thailand's prime minister Abhisit Vejjajiva said there were "some instances" in which Rohingya people were pushed out to sea.

"There are attempts, I think, to let these people drift to other shores. [...] when these practices do occur, it is done on the understanding that there is enough food and water supplied. [...] It's not clear whose work it is [...] but if I have the evidence who exactly did this I will bring them to account." [2]

The prime minister said he regretted "any losses", and was working on rectifying the problem.

No. Did you? I recall several vandals lurking in the page, and had to protect it frequently.
I also don't understand what point you wanted to make here. What am I supposed to tell you from the cut-pasted content? --Ragib (talk) 23:06, 10 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hey there

[edit]

Hey there Ragib,

Well I realised the pics i uploaded dont qualify to wikipedia standards. But dude, we seriously need potraits of our Presidents and Prime Ministers. Howcome wiki dosent have any copyrighted image of them? And why dont Bangladeshi wikipedians take the intiative to bring in these pictures, then these articles will be more attractive :)--ChaudhryAzan (talk) 20:38, 12 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Mujib article

[edit]

Well you know what, its completely justified to have such an outburst. So much of the information given is distorted and misleading, not just in the mujib article but also the zia one as well. People come and write whatever they wish should be history. Bangladesh has culture of suppressing history, u cant allow that to come into wikipedia.

Take the zia bio. It was written that hes a major general. I repeatedly corrected the error because he is Lt General. An editor kept reversing the edits claiming its popular belief. Yet i repeatedly kept on showing references from Bangabhaban and other websites. Finally i put up a reference from the book Bangladesh: A Legacy of Blood where the gazette showing his promotion is given. I hope even after all this, the corrections arent reversed.

As for the mujib article, what do you mean by removing the reference? The book mentioned there came a completely distorted picture of the facts. Indira Gandhi never came to Dhaka on January 10th. Any person conscious of bangladesh's history would know that. But why on earth would i still give the wrong info from a misleading reference?--ChaudhryAzan (talk) 14:15, 14 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Ragib, if you have a moment, have a look. I tried to clean this up some and hope I did more good than harm. I'm not entirely happy with the organization, but (as the history might suggest) if I look at it one more time I'm going to cry. Your help is appreciated. Speedy deletion contested: Mufti Abdur Rahman

[edit]

Hello Ragib, and thanks for your work patrolling new changes. I am just informing you that I contested the speedy deletion of Mufti Abdur Rahman - a page you tagged - because: The article makes a credible assertion of notability, sufficient to pass A7. Please review the criteria for speedy deletion before tagging further pages. If you have any questions or problems, please let me know. NW (Talk) 04:04, 4 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Articles for Deletions

[edit]

I have noticed your negative comments towards others when you post an AFD. Just because someone disagrees with your opinion, does not mean that you need to argue with them, much less on the AFD board. You should research your proposals before deleting that way you have a strong case, which is also a rule. See WP:BEFORE. keystoneridin! (talk) 16:45, 6 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your comment. However, I am well aware of all policies, and have made a strong case (please do read the nomination carefully). I also see no problem in asking you a simple question. You stated at that AFD that you support Keeping the article, because the person is a notable composer. I am surprised at your comment (is the album notable because the subject is a famous composer -- is this what you meant? Then is it wrong to ask you to explain what made you assert that the person is a notable composer, given that he has never released any album or any other musical work before, that he hasn't been covered in the local or international media? I'll also suggest that in future, you take another look at the guidelines for stating opinions at AFDs, namely "The debate is not a vote; please make recommendations on the course of action to be taken, sustained by arguments.".
Therefore, I do not see any problem in asking you to explain your position --- because your statement, as it is now, is simply lacking any logic. I am still interested to see your justification for the comment, so feel free to answer here or at the AFD. Have a nice day. --Ragib (talk) 23:13, 6 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Removal of PROD from Hridoy Khan

[edit]

Hello Ragib, this is an automated message from SDPatrolBot to inform you the PROD template you added to Hridoy Khan has been removed. It was removed by Phil Bridger with the following edit summary '(contest prod - Google searches find hundreds of (albeit unreliable) sources indicating that the subject has had chart hits in Bangladesh, so this should at least be discussed at WP:AFD rather than be summarily deleted)'. Please consider discussing your concerns with Phil Bridger before pursuing deletion further yourself. If you still think the article should be deleted after communicating with the 'dePRODer,' you may want to send the article to AfD for community discussion. Thank you, SDPatrolBot (talk) 02:46, 30 August 2009 (UTC) (Learn how to opt out of these messages)[reply]

Could you please help

[edit]

Hi, I don't think we have interacted before, but could you please look at this article on Salah Choudhury, as it is egregiously biased and I flagged it for violating Wikipedia:Neutral point of view. The reason I am asking is that although I have been editing for a while, I have usually steered clear of contentious subjects and could use some help if it turns into a POV battle as I don't have much experience in that area. Few more references, sources and external links are added. Is it like that Bangladesh has only one notable architect? Don't think so. There are quite a few architects in the country who could show their credibility in the international arena. The 5th National Council of Bangladesh Nationalist Party article was created and written by User:TawsifSalam . It didn't meet the wikipedia NPOV standards when i first read it. it had the partial tone and also there was no mentioning of the strong criticisms the 5th BNP council received in the country. then every time i added some criticisms(with source) including poll results that the 5th BNP council has received, he either undid my edits or manipulated the lines in such ways that can only be reffered to as sneaky vandalism. i also noticed after seeing his contribution list that he is interested (most of the time) only in articles which relate to a particular political party.

wiki admin Hersfold also thinks that the article is promotional and added the neutrality tag..So will you kindly suggest what can be done to achieve NPOV in the article and anything about warning User:TawsifSalam ? thanks. Souvik.arko (talk) 07:22, 13 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Warning Vandals

[edit]

Hello. Regarding the recent revert you made to Rock 101 (album): you may already know about them, but you might find Wikipedia:Template messages/User talk namespace useful. After a revert, these can be placed on the user's talk page to let them know you considered their edit was inappropriate, and also direct new users towards the sandbox. They can also be used to give a stern warning to a vandal when they've been previously warned. Thanks and happy editing! — SpikeToronto 08:19, 13 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, I'm aware of the template :). However, the ip might have some legitimate arguments supporting notability, so I just want to err in the side of caution. Thanks for your note anyway. --Ragib (talk) 08:21, 13 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
You may have a point. But, he didn’t say so in his edit summary. I did place a {{Uw-tdel1}} warning on his page, which assumes good faith, but reminds him that he should not merely remove maintenance templates without resolving the issue(s), explaining in his edit summary, and/or discussing on the talk page. At the very least, that will help him to know what to do when he next wants to remove maintenance templates.

Also, he removed the {{Unreferenced}} template, which clearly had yet to be resolved.

I think from his edit summary, he thought that removing the maintenance templates served to cleanup the look of the article. In which case, he most likely did not understand their purpose. Thus, the {{Uw-tdel1}} warning should help to clarify that for him.

Thanks Ragib! — SpikeToronto 08:37, 13 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

P.S. Oops! I am very sorry I templated an administrator. I do a lot of recent changes patrol and often find other wikieditors who revert without issuing accompanying warnings, which means that it can sometimes take many more than five edits before some vandalizing miscreant is finally blocked. — SpikeToronto 08:37, 13 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
P.P.S. I changed the {{Notability}} tag to one for music. Is that okay? Thanks! — SpikeToronto 08:37, 13 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
That's ok ... :). I didn't template the user because it's a dynamic IP from a Bangladesh mobile internet operator, and will likely be back from a diff IP. (I also assume it's the subject of the article who's blindly blanking the templates). But anyway, it is right in your part to change the notability tag. Thanks for your note as well. --Ragib (talk) 08:50, 13 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
