Questions regarding COI disclosure

[edit]

@Frghtfl Hbgbln: Hello there. First of all, thank you for disclosing your COI when creating the article on rs21. It helps in preserving Wikipedia's neutrality that we know when a user is directly connected to a subject. Having read the article and gone through your contribution history, I have a few questions:

  • Yesterday you made a series of edits to various unconnected articles, mostly adding short descriptions to them. Was this done for the purpose of receiving autoconfirmed status so that you could create the article on rs21?
  • You say you joined rs21 last month, and all of your edits to Wikipedia have taken place over the last few days. Did rs21 direct you to create an article about the organisation or did you do so on your own initiative?
  • Do you understand Wikipedia policy regarding ownership of content (i.e. that anyone can edit the rs21 article and make changes you or the organisation may not agree with)?
  • Do you plan on editing other Wikipedia articles outside of this subject are? Or is this a single-purpose account?

I look forward to hearing back from you and hope you will continue contributing to our project. If you have any questions about editing, you can ping me on my talk page. Regards, --Grnrchst (talk) 14:05, 12 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Grnrchst Thanks for your message!
I created this account a long time ago and had been meaning to get more active, but usually forget to log-in. Realising that the group didn't have an article, I decided to create one – I wasn't directed to do so, but did ask other members for help with finding some sources. Whilst working on the article, I definitely caught the bug and wanted to try out different ways of contributing, so did some editing via the Suggested Edits prompts! Working on the article on my own initiative meant getting to grips with Wikipedia formatting and I'm hoping to now continue applying that going forwards.
I'm keen for others to contribute to, and edit, the rs21 article; that approach to content being the whole point of Wikipedia, after all.
I'm an academic historian of left-wing activism and anticipate further edits on related but separate topics in the future – my small edit of the Gee Bernard article, today, is an example of editing related to my own research background, as I noticed it whilst working on something else. Further edits are likely to focus on left-wing organisations or the history of the London Borough of Croydon, as these are my specialisms. Frghtfl Hbgbln (talk) 14:28, 12 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for clarifying all this! I'm very pleased to hear you have caught the Wikipedia bug and excited to see further contributions from you. All the best to you, happy editing! --Grnrchst (talk) 14:33, 12 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Grnrchst Wonderful, thank you – and very glad to have been welcomed by a vowel-free comrade! Frghtfl Hbgbln (talk) 14:34, 12 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
