- Hi, Thanks for welcoming me. I will indeed check out those links. I have a couple questions, is it better to ask them here or on the talk pages?
- I am interested in creating some pages of eSports players. My concern is that I'm not sure the correct process of creating pages without fear of them being auto-removed from bots or by unsourced content. I guess I'd like to know the do and don'ts for creating such pages.
- Also, I'm not sure of all the templates out there that is available to me to use. When creating a page and without knowing about the templates. How do I know which templates to use and where should I look for them? Is there certain Esports templates to use? ---- 17:29, 7 September 2014 (UTC)
- My reverted changes with Nick_Plott. It says with wonky "formatting and messes with verifiable Polygon info". Could you please elaborate on this more please? I'd like to learn and understand what I did wrong here.
- Also my reverted changes on Dan_Stemkoski. It says with "Inappropriate reduction of whitespace". What exactly what was inappropriate about it? I would like to know what I'm doing incorrectly. Thanks -- 17:46, 7 September 2014 (UTC)
- Here is a fine place to ask since I'm watching the page and will see your updates. If you have general questions about video game articles on WP, the WT:VG page is a great place to ask. (There are also other eSports editors that you might want to work with.) I'd run your ideas for new pages past experienced editors who are familiar with the notability policies because, as you said, otherwise you might end up wasting your time. The short version is that the person needs significant coverage in multiple reliable, independent sources. (?) It's worth reading those links, if you can. So even Plott and Stemkoski were brought to Articles for Deletion (as you can see from their talk pages) as they did not have extensive coverage apart from the main Polygon article. You'd want to make sure that any new pages you propose have the eSports players covered by independent (not team sites) and reliable (with an editorial function, such as IGN or Polygon) sources. You might either want to try WT:VG or myself, and list the sources that you would use to justify the article. Remember that the main metric for adding new pages is the amount of independent (non-affiliated) and reliable (not YouTube videos) sources, so you'd want to list those. As for making new pages, I'd use another page you like as a template and work from there. With Stemkoski, your edit did not introduce any substantial change to the article other than changes to whitespace, which is generally frowned upon. Script-assisted edits that only change whitespace are usually skipped. For example, I've been maintaining these articles and I prefer the whitespace where I edit, so I would revert someone who came to the page and deleted it for no reason. With Plott, some of the info is interesting, but since it was changed all at once, I couldn't pick and choose what parts to keep without reverting the whole lot. For example, I disagreed with the whitespace changes, but agreed that the YouTube interview could be useful for sourcing some aspects of his life, though I disagreed with the neutrality of the language added (there are strict requirements for the biographies of living people and I disagreed with how the Polygon citations were moved to look as if they sourced information that actually came from the interview video. (Also remember that the YouTube video isn't reliable, though we accept it as a self-published source since it is an interview.) Also the birthdate was unsourced. Anyway, that's the nutshell. - Hi, Frank. I apologize on behalf of Wikipedia editors for the misinformation you were given above. The guideline cited above for US settlement articles does not even discuss flags in inboxes. The link to the manual of style you were given above states specifically that flags ARE allowed in infoboxes for geographic divisions such as towns, cities, states and counties. - It appears it's allowed to have flagicons in settlements. The manual doesn't necessarily say it's not allowed.
