Philip of Castile (archbishop)

Hello. I was on Wikipedia:Translators available and notice that you were on the list for Spanish to English translators and wondered if you could be interested in translating es:Felipe de Castilla to Philip of Castile (archbishop)? There is a lot of interesting information still left untranslated. Thanks.--Queen Elizabeth II's Little Spy (talk) 21:26, 28 June 2012 (UTC)

Sure, I'll read it in full tomorrow and see what can be used — Frankie (talk) 12:38, 29 June 2012 (UTC)
My apologies, things got really busy all of the sudden and couldn't set aside any time to read the article until yesterday, just to find that the translation had been done already by Adamgarrigus. I'm glad to see it was done; there was indeed good information missing on the English article, maybe not the most relevant ever, but definitely of encyclopedic value. Best regards — Frankie (talk) 14:46, 12 July 2012 (UTC)

Page Triage newsletter

Hey all. Some quick but important updates on what we've been up to and what's coming up next :).

The curation toolbar, our Wikimedia-supported twinkle replacement. We're going to be deploying it, along with a pile of bugfixes, to wikipedia on 9 August. After a few days to check it doesn't make anything explode or die, we'll be sticking up a big notice and sending out an additional newsletter inviting people to test it out and give us feedback :). This will be followed by two office hours sessions - one on Tuesday the 14th of August at 19:00 UTC for all us Europeans, and one on Wednesday the 15th at 23:00 UTC for the East Coasters out there :). As always, these will be held in #wikimedia-office; drop me a note if you want to know how to easily get on IRC, or if you aren't able to attend but would like the logs.

I hope to see a lot of you there; it's going to be a big day for everyone involved, I think :). I'll have more notes after the deployment! Okeyes (WMF) (talk) 19:54, 3 August 2012 (UTC)

Your Username Change Request

Hello, Shiva Mahbobi. Regarding your request to have your username changed, I wanted to point out that the bit "User:" is automatically added to every userpage, and it can't be removed. I'm guessing that you mean to write an article instead, which you can do so by going to Shiva Mahbobi, but before you do so please read and make sure you understand the notability guideline to determine if an article on the subject is appropriate for the encyclopedia. Also, if you are actually Shiva Mahbobi then please review the conflict of interest guideline to know how to best contribute to the project. If you're not, then I recommend you request to change your username to one that identifies personally as an editor. Don't hesitate to ask if you have any doubts. Best regards — Frankie (talk) 18:30, 3 August 2012 (UTC)

Dear Frankie. Thanks for your reply above to my question regardign user name change. I am not Shiva Mahbobi, I am Saeed Parto, but in order for her name to appear on my contribution, I made this page under her name, I hope this is a correct way to do it. I made a contibution to Shiva Mahbobi who is a known Iranian political activist and has done many outstanding activites. I guess you are right and I should have wrote an article about her to begin with. Based on your reply, I have few questions now: 1. Can I use the move tab to move this page to a new title as an article? If not, how can I change it to an article? 2. You recommended that I request to change the page's username to one that identifies personally as an editor. What do you mean by that? And now that I am not Shiva Mahbobi, what should I do? How can I request the change of user name to editor? Many thanks for all your help and support. Best Regards--Shiva Mahbobi (talk) 12:29, 4 August 2012 (UTC)--Shiva Mahbobi (talk) 12:20, 4 August 2012 (UTC)
Regarding your username, you can request to change it at WP:CHU/S — and actually, your previous request is still open, so if you want I can update it with the username of your choice. What I meant before is that your username is personal, and it is independent of the subject of any article you may work on. You can find more details on the username policy page.
Regarding the article, you can indeed use the move tab to move the existing text to the main space. Still, before you do so, let me highlight again a couple of relevant core policies and guidelines.
Note that in order to have an encyclopedia article, a subject should be notable. In short, what the guideline states is that they must have been the subject of significant coverage by multiple reliable sources that are independent of the subject. I did a quick search for Shiva Mahbobi, and the only information I found was from advocacy sites, which are normally not reliable for our purposes. Of course I might not be looking in the right place, so if you have any sources, any coverage of her by established media, it might help to determine if an article is due. But if you just move it as it it right nowhere, without any sources to show notability, or even to verify the content, the article will simply be listed for deletion.
Let me know if you have any doubt — Frankie (talk) 15:39, 6 August 2012 (UTC

Dear Frankie, sorry for my very late reply, I was travelling for sometimes and swamped with work for the rest of it. In regards to our last correspondence, I have gathered more material which I think show variability and Notability of Shiva's work which has been covered by reliable sources such as BBC and Aljazeera. Would you please check the links below and let me know if these are according to the guidelines you mentioned above and if it is possible to move my page to the main space. I would really appreciate your valuable assistance in this regards and I hope, after checking the links, you will have a good news for me. Many thanks. Here are the links:

Shiva Mahbobi (talk) 18:42, 28 October 2012 (UTC)

The fifth link is a blog and appears to be an advocacy site, so it won't be useful to establish notability. The interviews and TV appearances may be useful, but it depends much on the context, how the subject is presented, and what is the focus of the show. There was a recent thread on the subject of interviews and notability, see here; it isn't conclusive, but it can give you an idea of what the community looks for. What we are missing is third party sources providing coverage of Mahbobi herself (her life, work, activities, etc.). Not knowing the language I can't tell for sure in this case, but if all we have are a couple of interviews/appearances then I'm afraid that notability is not yet met, and the article would most likely be nominated for deletion if it was moved to mainspace.
As an aside, please post a new request at WP:Changing username. As I mentioned before, using the name of a public personality as a username is prohibited by the username policy so to avoid impersonation. You made it clear before that that isn't your intention, so the next step would be to get a personal username — Frankie (talk) 19:42, 30 October 2012 (UTC)
Dear Frankie, so the links are not good enough to move the page to the main space. I shall look for other third party source, and when I have them, I'll send them to you for inspection. But I'm not sure if I understood your point about my username. Do you mean the word 'User' that appears beside the name of the article, Shiva Mahbobi, or you mean my own username which I use with password to log into the account? I'm confused which one you mean. If you mean the username, I can definitely change it no problem. The reason I chose Shiva Mahbobi was because I thought the personal username will automatically appear as the name on my article, and i wanted the article to be under Shiva Mahbobi's name. This is what I intended to do, although I might have been wrong: I wanted to write an article about Shiva Mahbobi, with her name on top of it so when people searched for Shiva Mahbobi, this article would appear with her name on top of it. i thought if I would have chosen Saeed Parto as my username, the article would have been automatically named as Saeed parto. All I was trying to do was to create a article for shiva Mahbobi with her name on it. So now, If I request to change my username, would this change alter the name of the article which I wanted to be Shiva Mahbobi? can a personal username be different from the name on the article? Sorry for all the trouble, this is very confusing for me. Many thanks for all your help and support. Shiva Mahbobi (talk) 12:58, 16 November 2012 (UTC)
No trouble at all, I'm glad to help. Answering your last question first, yes, a personal username can be different from the name on the article. The "User:" prefix appears on every page on userspace, like in my userpage User:Frankie. Userspace is meant to be a place for editors to interact with each other. Articles in mainspace are what constitutes the encyclopedia, and they don't have a prefix at all, for example the articles on Africa or World War I. Your userpage should have your username in the title, not Mahbobi's name. To put an article under Shiva Mahbobi's name it needs to be created or moved to Shiva Mahbobi (note that it is a red link right now; it doesn't exist because notability hasn't been established), and any editor, regardless of their username, would be able to contribute to it. See Wikipedia:Namespace for descriptions of other existing namespaces — Frankie (talk) 16:56, 16 November 2012 (UTC)
Dear Frankie, Thank you for the explanation. As you suggested, I processed a requested to change my username tonight through WP:Changing username. I am still working on notability because I would like to be able to move the article to the main space as soon as possible. in regards to the links I sent you, you mentioned: "The interviews and TV appearances may be useful, but it depends much on the context, how the subject is presented, and what is the focus of the show." Do I need to do anything to explain the focus of the show? Should I explain it here? As you suggested, I will also look at the Wikipedia talk:Notability#Can someone be notable for the fact that they were interviewed by a major media outlet... regardless of what they were interviewed about to see what else I can do in this regard Thank you.Shiva Mahbobi (talk) 21:40, 18 November 2012 (UTC)
Thanks for requesting that change. A quick note, a clerk has made query regarding the use of your real name that requires a response from you. It is merely a word of caution; if you don't have a problem with your real name being exposed, make an edit to your request saying so. Otherwise, feel free to change the requested username or to place a new request altogether.
Regarding the article, I don't think it should be moved to mainspace at this point. I've been reviewing the BBC shows (as much as I can, not knowing the language), and I made a second, more thorough search for information on Mahbobi, but I can't see anything to establish notability. Being a panelist twice indicates that the subject has a certain value to the BBC as an expert, and that could be a hint that the person is notable, but what is really needed to meet notability are sources that talk about the subject in depth (see WP:42). Apart from the shows, all I can see are mentions in advocacy sites, not even trivial mentions in regular news sources, and the same when I tried to look for information about the "20th of June" movement. I think it's possible that they might become notable in the future (i.e. reliable sources will see it fit to write about them), but at this moment they are not notable — Frankie (talk) 18:38, 22 November 2012 (UTC)

New Pages newsletter

Hey all :)

A couple of new things.

First, you'll note that all the project titles have now changed to the Page Curation prefix, rather than having the New Pages Feed prefix. This is because the overarching project name has changed to Page Curation; the feed is still known as New Pages Feed, and the Curation Toolbar is still the Curation Toolbar. Hopefully this will be the last namechange ;p.

On the subject of the Curation Toolbar (nice segue, Oliver!) - it's now deployed on Wikipedia. Just open up any article in the New Pages Feed and it should appear on the right. It's still a beta version - bugs are expected - and we've got a lot more work to do. But if you see something going wrong, or a feature missing, drop me a note or post on the project talkpage and I'll be happy to help :). We'll be holding two office hours sessions to discuss the tool and improvements to it; the first is at 19:00 UTC on 14 August, and the second at 23:00 on the 15th. Both will be in #wikimedia-office as always. Thanks! Okeyes (WMF) (talk) 16:01, 10 August 2012 (UTC)

Discussion at Talk:ABU Song Festivals 2012

Sorry to come here regarding this particular article, but I am starting to get most upset in the manner of context and way the other involved user is twisting my words out of context as if to ignite an argument - and he has already admitted to purposely forcing me into an argument as shown in the last two lines of this diff. To me it feels as though that any comments that I make on that discussion are only being taken serious and constructively by yourself alone, and twisted out of context by the other. As much as I am trying to remain calm and respond civilly, I find it most disturbing that another user is being permitted to be so aggressive and vicious towards myself. Is it right that he should always try to make me feel guilty for having real life professional duties, and inadvertently word remarks to sound like I should neglect real life and wait until the debate is over? Unless something is said to the user and he is reminded to stay civil and cooperative at all times, then I cannot see myself being as cooperative towards the user in return. Again sorry for bringing this up here, I hope you understand why I have though. Regards, Wesley Mouse 18:28, 23 August 2012 (UTC)

I understand where you're coming from, but let me put it from another perspective. Looking at the whole talk page, things have indeed been confrontational since nearly the beginning, but on several points you or him or both have simply misunderstood what the other was implying, which resulted on both of you talking past each other. For instance, on the diff above I can see that his comment, while I don't think it was useful for the discussion, was simply meant to express what he understood from your previous comment: that he oughta respond to every post right away. I know that's not what you meant by that comment (but rather, that you felt he was responding selectively), but similarly he didn't actually mean, on the diff above, that you should neglect your duties and give the article max priority (but rather, the he felt it wasn't consistent to simultaneously ask for leeway due to real life matters for yourself, and then to "demand" faster responses from him). Also note that while he might have pressured for a quick response previously, on later posts he has focused on content, in particular after he stated that he would be dropping the personal arguments. If I may offer a practical advice it is to try to turn the page. You know there is no great urgency, and I hope that Ruslanovich understands that too, and if it comes up again, well, I'll try to reiterate the argument I made before. Take your time, arrange your thoughts. The weekend is coming (well, at least for me, I don't know about your schedule) — Frankie (talk) 20:13, 23 August 2012 (UTC)
You've come up with a few good points there. So glad that you make better grammatical sense than he. The tensions with Olympic/Paralympic duties is bad enough to handle, that his forceful (or talking past me) behaviour was just pushing me over the edge, almost like showing a red cloth to a bull. Other members on Project Eurovision have all been supportive towards myself and that it will be difficult to try and balance wiki and Olympic duties equally. I would have thought Ruslan would have understood that too, but alas he did not. Anyhow, I have posted a proposal on the talk page, and it is as reasonable as I can be. Plus I have rescinded the page move request at Our Sound for the time being; only because the deadline was close and could have made the page move before the proposal was discussed. Hope you have a good weekend, wish I could have one of those - despite having the last 3 days off volunteer duty, I'm back on duty from Saturday until Monday, and then Tuesday off; and Wednesday its all hand to the pump as the games open and then its sporadic work schedules between here and there until 9 September. And to think, I am considering doing this again for Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games... I must be insane LOL. Wesley Mouse 00:31, 24 August 2012 (UTC)

Page Curation update

Hey all :). We've just deployed another set of features for Page Curation. They include flyouts from the icons in Special:NewPagesFeed, showing who reviewed an article and when, a listing of this in the "info" flyout, and a general re-jigging of the info flyout - we've also fixed the weird bug with page_titles_having_underscores_instead_of_spaces in messages sent to talkpages, and introduced CSD logging! As always, these features will need some work - but any feedback would be most welcome.

Tagging

Thanks, Frankie, I am still clumsy in tagging. All the best. --E4024 (talk) 19:56, 19 September 2012 (UTC)

Page Curation newsletter

Hey Frankie. This will be, if not our final newsletter, one of the final ones :). After months of churning away at this project, our final version (apart from a few tweaks and bugfixes) is now live. Changes between this and the last release include deletion tag logging, a centralised log, and fixes to things like edit summaries.

Hopefully you like what we've done with the place; suggestions for future work on it, complaints and bugs to the usual address :). We'll be holding a couple of office hours sessions, which I hope you'll all attend. Many thanks, Okeyes (WMF) (talk) 10:55, 24 September 2012 (UTC)

Hello, Hosam007. Given your circumstances there shouldn't be any problem with this. I'd recommend you make an edit to your request while logged as "Hosam007" to confirm you control the target account, and also login to ar.wiki and make an edit to your talk page to verify that you own the SUL. Then post a diff to that edit on your request. Let me you know if you have any doubts — Frankie (talk) 16:48, 2 October 2012 (UTC)

Fixup for archived deletion of HKAGE

Hi, what was that magic you did? Wanted to know so I could archive/template things the right way next time I close one. Churn and change (talk) 16:23, 9 October 2012 (UTC)

Hahaha, no magic. It isn't clear by looking at the diff, but all I did was to remove the duplicate top div (from the text <div class="boilerplate metadata afd vfd xfd-closed"... to the text ...in your nomination. -->). If you're not using a script to close AfDs, the order of things is to subst {{afd top}}, then the closing comment and signature, and then the AfD header, and finally subst {{afd bottom}} at, well, the bottom. See the full details at WP:AFD/AI. Best regards — Frankie (talk) 16:36, 9 October 2012 (UTC)

Page Curation newsletter - closing up!

Hey all :).

We're (very shortly) closing down this development cycle for Page Curation. It's genuinely been a pleasure to talk with you all and build software that is so close to my own heart, and also so effective. The current backlog is 9 days, and I've never seen it that low before.

However! Closing up shop does not mean not making any improvements. First-off, this is your last chance to give us a poke about unresolved bugs or report new ones on the talkpage. If something's going wrong, we want to know about it :). Second, we'll hopefully be taking another pass over the software next year. If you've got ideas for features Page Curation doesn't currently have, stick them here.

Again, it's been an honour. Thanks :). Okeyes (WMF) (talk) 12:01, 17 October 2012 (UTC)

WP Deletion Sorting in the Signpost

The WikiProject Report would like to focus on WikiProject Deletion Sorting for a Signpost article. This is an excellent opportunity to draw attention to your efforts and attract new members to the project. Would you be willing to participate in an interview? If so, here are the questions for the interview. Just add your response below each question and feel free to skip any questions that you don't feel comfortable answering. Multiple editors will have an opportunity to respond to the interview questions, so be sure to sign your answers. If you know anyone else who would like to participate in the interview, please share this with them. Have a great day. –Mabeenot (talk) 06:10, 26 October 2012 (UTC)

Thank you for participating in the interview. It will run in next week's issue of the Signpost. If you can answer any other interview questions, please do so in the next couple days so we can include them in the final copy. –Mabeenot (talk) 02:49, 22 November 2012 (UTC)
There's not much more I can add. I'm not familiar with the details of the other projects, and I don't use a tool for sorting. If anything, just to reiterate that editors should feel free to jump in, and to post any doubts at WT:WikiProject Deletion sortingFrankie (talk) 15:51, 22 November 2012 (UTC)

Xuitlaltzin Vázquez

Although Xuitlaltzin is not very known on the Internet, she is considered to be notable in Mexico. Please redirect her article on page Marisol (telenovela).--Miha (talk) 15:22, 7 November 2012 (UTC)

I considered the possibility of a redirect, but I couldn't find any source to favor any one of her works over the others (more specifically, I couldn't find any source that made a statement of significance of her work for any of the shows she's participated in). The article claims that her best work is "Marisol", but we really need a source for that kind of claim. You're of course free to propose a redirect outcome on the AFD, so that the closing admin may consider it — Frankie (talk) 15:52, 7 November 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for the name change! How come it hasn't changed up the top yet though? — Preceding unsigned comment added by SamGallagherWright (talkcontribs) 18:26, 9 November 2012 (UTC)

Checking the contribution list of "SamGallagherWright", all the edits were made after November the 2nd, which is when the rename was performed. Both accounts are separate, so any edits made as SamGallagherWright from now on will not be associated with the account MrSGW (and that can't be done manually, since accounts can't be merged). What you should do is simply don't login with that account anymore.
As for your contribution list as "MrSGW", it should include every edit you made as SamGallagherWright before it was renamed, but sometimes an edit doesn't transfer. Do you think there are edits missing? — Frankie (talk) 18:44, 9 November 2012 (UTC)

I never sign, to my eternal shame. So it always sayS "Preceding unsigned comment added by SamGallagherWright (talk • contribs) 18:26, 9 November 2012 (UTC)" — Preceding unsigned comment added by SamGallagherWright (talkcontribs)

See WP:SIGHOW. To sign simply put ~~~~ (four tildes) at the end of your post, and after you save the system will substitute it with your signature and a timestamp. You can modify your signature by going to Special:Preferences.
About your account, I'm confused as to why you keep posting as "SamGallagherWright". Remember, that account and "MrSGW" are completely separate accounts. It's up to you if you prefer to use this one, but in that case you shouldn't login with the other — Frankie (talk) 20:10, 10 November 2012 (UTC)

This is not a newsletter

This is just a tribute.

Anyway. You're getting this note because you've participated in discussion and/or asked for updates to either the Article Feedback Tool or Page Curation. This isn't about either of those things, I'm afraid ;p. We've recently started working on yet another project: Echo, a notifications system to augment the watchlist. There's not much information at the moment, because we're still working out the scope and the concepts, but if you're interested in further updates you can sign up here.

In addition, we'll be holding an office hours session at 21:00 UTC on Wednesday, 14 November in #wikimedia-office - hope to see you all there :). I appreciate it's an annoying time for non-Europeans: if you're interested in chatting about the project but can't make it, give me a shout and I can set up another session if there's enough interest in one particular timezone or a skype call if there isn't. When you've added the refs to the article please drop me a note on my talk page and I will happily withdraw the nomination. Fiddle Faddle (talk) 11:16, 13 November 2012 (UTC)

Hey, sorry I didn't drop you a note. I put up those three refs just to indicate why the subject is notable, but I meant to add more content soon. In any case, thanks for withdrawing the AfD — Frankie (talk) 14:04, 15 November 2012 (UTC)
The only reason it was AfD is because it wasn't valid for a BLP PROD, where yo could have removed the PROD yourself after adding the refs. An dd area of Wikiprocess, that! Fiddle Faddle (talk) 14:29, 15 November 2012 (UTC)

User:Ratzd'mishukribo username change request

Thanks! I'll do it manually though, I think this will be simpler for me. Ratzd'mishukribo (talk) 18:54, 16 November 2012 (UTC)

I wrote my last reply in a bit of a hurry, and I completely misunderstood the usurping process. Can I still change my mind? (If yes, I'd like to request that instead of moving the existing User:Hasirpad to User:Hasirpad (usurped), you should move it to User:הסרפד, an account I wanted to open anyways to prevent confusion (it's the Hebrew spelling of my username and the form I use elsewhere.) in any case, thanks! Ratzd'mishukribo (talk) 23:19, 17 November 2012 (UTC)
User:הסרפד isn't registered here nor on any other project, so usurpation is not even needed, placing a new request at WP:Changing username/Simple is enough. You only made a couple of edits as Hasirpad so simply abandon that account (placing a redirect if you feel it's necessary), and make the request to change directly from Ratzd'mishukribo to הסרפד, that way you can bring your contributions to the new name. About the earlier issue, note how your signature inserts the code ' instead of the apostrophe character, so after you make the request replace that code with an apostrophe, that way the bot will be able to parse it. Don't hesitate to ask if you have any doubts — Frankie (talk) 23:39, 17 November 2012 (UTC)
Thank you very much!

I've added my request again, this time following your instructions. Thanks again!
Ratzd'mishukribo (talk) 03:12, 18 November 2012 (UTC)
I'm glad to help. The request looks good, there shouldn't be any problem this time around — Frankie (talk) 03:22, 18 November 2012 (UTC)
It worked, thanks!

Help on usurpation with weka?

It's been almost 2 weeks, can you please take a look at this: http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Wikipedia:Changing_username/Usurpations#I_Mystic_I_.E2.86.92_Weka — Preceding unsigned comment added by I Mystic I (talkcontribs) 23:06, 10 December 2012 (UTC)

I cannot complete the request myself, it must be handled by a bureaucrat. I know you want to have it done soon, but please be patient. Crats are all volunteers here, just like me and you — Frankie (talk) 14:03, 11 December 2012 (UTC)
