Administrators' newsletter – January 2025
[edit]News and updates for administrators from the past month (December 2024).
- Following an RFC, Wikipedia:Notability (species) was adopted as a subject-specific notability guideline.
- A request for comment is open to discuss whether admins should be advised to warn users rather than issue no-warning blocks to those who have posted promotional content outside of article space.
- The Nuke feature also now provides links to the userpage of the user whose pages were deleted, and to the pages which were not selected for deletion, after page deletions are queued. This enables easier follow-up admin-actions.
- Following the 2024 Arbitration Committee elections, the following editors have been elected to the Arbitration Committee: CaptainEek, Daniel, Elli, KrakatoaKatie, Liz, Primefac, ScottishFinnishRadish, Theleekycauldron, Worm That Turned.
- A New Pages Patrol backlog drive is happening in January 2025 to reduce the number of unreviewed articles and redirects in the new pages feed. Sign up here to participate!
ACC Tool User Access
[edit]Hi Firefly! Long time no chat! I just needed to give you a quick FYI that I suspended your ACC Tool User access from the interface. It's only because you've been inactive for over 90 days; nothing else. Should you wish to rejoin, just let us know and we'll let you back in! ;-) Cheers - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 23:21, 21 January 2025 (UTC)

'splinetools' on toolforge
[edit]Hello! My understanding is that you are the owner of the 'splinetools' tool account on Toolforge.
Every few months I run a report on the largest files using toolforge NFS storage, and a file in the 'splintetools' directory comes up every time; right now it is the #1 largest file: enwiki-20141106-pages-articles.xml. I've emailed your registered email address several times about this over the year but have never gotten a response.
Can you please either 1) respond to my email, or 2) update the email account associated with the 'reticulated spline' toolforge user? And also please delete that file if it is not in use. I have just gzipped it to avoid permanent damage; if the file is useful to ongoing work then you can just unzip it and let me know. Thank you! Andrewbogott (talk) 20:51, 27 January 2025 (UTC)
