Hello, I'm Oshwah. I noticed that you recently removed some content from School District of the City of Pontiac  with this edit, without explaining why. In the future, it would be helpful to others if you described your changes to Wikipedia with an edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry, the removed content has been restored. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks. ~Oshwah~ (talk) (contribs) 14:42, 12 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion nomination of Old Newsboys’ Goodfellow Fund of Detroit

[edit]

Hello Fanfair,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Old Newsboys’ Goodfellow Fund of Detroit for deletion, because it seems to be inappropriate for a variety of reasons.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. rayukk | talk 16:44, 17 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on The Soup Bowl requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about an organized event (tour, function, meeting, party, etc.), but it does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Please be sure that the citations you provide actually verify the facts that you are citing. Specifically, your citations to the Michigan-football.com site do not mention the terms "Goodfellow Bowl" or "Soup Bowl" even though you are using these links to verify the existence of this topic. Speedy deletion nomination of A River Through Time (The Mainstream of the Clinton River)

[edit]

Hello Fanfair,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged A River Through Time (The Mainstream of the Clinton River) for deletion, because it seems to be promotional, rather than an encyclopedia article.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. ubiquity (talk) 15:03, 1 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

As reviewing administrator, I declined that speedy-deletion nomination, because I did not agree that the article was promotional. However, Wikipedia is quite selective about article subjects: for books, the inclusion standard is explained at WP:Notability (books), and I was about to propose it for deletion. So, thank you for your message, and I have deleted it. I hope you are not discouraged, and will contnue to contribute. There is good advice at WP:Your first article, and a one-stop-shop overview at Wikipedia:A primer for newcomers. Regards, JohnCD (talk) 15:38, 1 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Waterford Village Historic District and other NRHP listings in Oakland County, Michigan

[edit]

Hi, Fanfair, I see you've recently created Waterford Village Historic District, an article about a site listed on the National Register of Historic Places in Oakland County, Michigan. I see you have included a few sources in the article, one of which is the district's listing in the National Register Information System (NRIS). Currently it seems the National Park Service's Focus website that hosts NRIS files is down and has been for the past day or so, so I'm not sure if that link includes a pdf of the form that was submitted when the district was nominated for listing on the Register, but I just wanted to let you know that for any site listed on the NRHP, there is always a file available with some good information about the historical and other significance of the site somewhere, even if not at the Focus website. Michigan is unfortunately one of the few sites that doesn't have many pdfs available in Focus, but according to WP:NRHPHELP#Michigan, you can find many of these forms though the National Archives catalog. For example, the nomination for Waterfod Village HD can be found on this page (direct pdf link here). This form has some great information, including a list of buildings and other structures within the district, that could be added to the article if you are willing to do so.

Also I see from your contributions that you seem to be interested in developing articles about this region of Michigan in general. Only 20 of the 75 NRHP sites in Oakland County have articles, and of the 20 existing articles, 6 are still stubs, so if it interests you, feel free to develop the existing articles or create some new ones. Of course, you are free to decline if you would rather do your own thing. If you are willing to develop some of the articles about sites in Oakland County, might I suggest starting with Farmington Historic District, which is tagged as having only one reference to the NRIS and is in sore need of some attention. The pdf of the nomination form can be found here (direct link). Another possibility is the nearby Clarkston Village Historic District, which doesn't yet have an article. Its nomination form can be found here (direct link).

Again, feel free to ignore this message and carry on with whatever you'd like to do, but if all of this interests you, might I suggest joining WP:NRHP, a group dedicated to writing articles about sites listed on the NRHP. If you live in the area and like to take pictures, uploading pictures of sites on the Register is also helpful to the project (there are 11 sites in Oakland County that do not have images, Waterford HD being one of them!). Even if you don't plan to formally "join" the project, you might consider looking over the project's manual of style, which gives some basic guidelines and tips about how to develop NRHP articles. Also the aforementioned WP:NRHPHELP is useful for obtaining sources about NRHP-listed sites. Feel free to post at the project's talk page or on mine if you have any questions.

Thanks again for your contributions!--Dudemanfellabra (talk) 07:12, 6 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I see that you have created the Clarkston article above; thank you for that contribution. I notice, however, that you also created Waterford Village, Michigan as almost an exact copy of Waterford Village Historic District (Waterford, Michigan). You don't need to have the material in two places for the links to work out correctly. You can use what are called redirects to make a link from one title to another. I have just redirected the village article to the district article. Any other titles that you think are appropriate for an article that you create can be created as redirects like this one. Thanks again.--Dudemanfellabra (talk) 22:28, 7 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. This is a notice to inform you that a tag has been placed on Lake Oakland Lake (Michigan) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

Control copyright icon Hello Fanfair, and welcome to Wikipedia. All or some of your addition(s) to Sylvan Lake (Michigan) has had to be removed, as it appears to have added copyrighted material without permission from the copyright holder. While we appreciate your contributing to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from your sources to avoid copyright or plagiarism issues here.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. (There is a college-level introduction to paraphrase, with examples, hosted by the Online Writing Lab of Purdue.) Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • Our primary policy on using copyrighted content is Wikipedia:Copyrights. You may also want to review Wikipedia:Copy-paste.
  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. However, there are steps that must be taken to verify that license before you do. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • In very rare cases (that is, for sources that are public domain or compatibly licensed), it may be possible to include greater portions of a source text. However, please seek help at the help desk before adding such content to the article. 99.9% of sources may not be added in this way, so it is necessary to seek confirmation first. If you do confirm that a source is public domain or compatibly licensed, you will still need to provide full attribution; see Wikipedia:Plagiarism for the steps you need to follow.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you can, but please follow the steps in Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. — Diannaa (talk) 21:05, 27 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

ArbCom Elections 2016: Voting now open!

[edit]

Hello, Fanfair. Voting in the 2016 Arbitration Committee elections is open from Monday, 00:00, 21 November through Sunday, 23:59, 4 December to all unblocked users who have registered an account before Wednesday, 00:00, 28 October 2016 and have made at least 150 mainspace edits before Sunday, 00:00, 1 November 2016.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. Hello, Fanfair. I wanted to let you know that I’m proposing an article that you started, Bill Chmielewski, for deletion because I don't think it meets our criteria for inclusion. If you don't want the article deleted:

  1. edit the page
  2. remove the text that looks like this: {{proposed deletion/dated...}}
  3. save the page

Also, be sure to explain why you think the article should be kept in your edit summary or on the article's talk page. If you don't do so, it may be deleted later anyway.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Onel5969 TT me 12:45, 10 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
