Why categorization removal

[edit]

I put all of those categories in because Schenley is in most of those places. So why delete 🇰🇵💀🙁 Judeinator9001 (talk) 02:31, 19 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I think you may want to review WP:CATSPECIFIC, which states that a "page should be placed in all of the most specific categories to which it logically belongs." The categorization system would be useless if every article was categorized like the Schenley article was. - Eureka Lott 02:03, 20 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Ready To Be Draft

[edit]

No one said that the article shouldn't be edited, i am saying that i created that article and that an user called "ArmyOnceBlinkMidzy" came to my talk page lying and now she's claiming with all the confidence in the world that she created that article when everything in that page from the wording to the sources were written and collected by me and me only, my article got deleted the first day that i published it, from a user that took it and turned into a draft or gave it to another user, cause in the page information says that page creator is called "Perghhh" and now this user is having the nerve to claim with the most confidence that she created and is playing the victim, ths is so disgusting, why does she have to lie with such nerve like that, specially knowing that she did not created that, you should report that user, they took all the credits from me and my article to claim it as theirs. Lightlylove (talk) 20:43, 9 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

This is her article the one she created on March 3, 2023, https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:MobileDiff/1142592732 but the one standing now its mine and was created by me on March 5, 2023, nobody edited her article cause it was eliminated while mine was moved into a draft after being reverted few times by another user and now she thinks is her article but its not, watch the page history and my contributions, i have the proof of where i originally created it, it's not a coincidence that her supposed article has the same wording and sources than mine, also hers was shorter but mine had more sections and was better edited and was the one used, tell her to wake up. Lightlylove (talk) 21:00, 9 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Dan Clancy (disambiguation) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G14 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a disambiguation page which either

  • disambiguates only one extant Wikipedia page and whose title ends in "(disambiguation)" (i.e., there is a primary topic);
  • disambiguates zero extant Wikipedia pages, regardless of its title; or
  • is an orphaned redirect with a title ending in "(disambiguation)" that does not target a disambiguation page or page that has a disambiguation-like function.

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such pages may be deleted at any time. Please see the disambiguation page guidelines for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Deletion

[edit]

Hey I noticed that you removed the deletion template in Leo (2023 American film). I put the template because that page is not linked anywhere and is currently of no use. No article is made. So, can you please delete that page. In the future, when someone tries to create a draft, it might be a problem. 2402:3A80:1E14:8560:37ED:BA87:14E4:C51B (talk) 03:26, 7 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there. That's an argument for deleting the redirect, but it's not one of the criteria for speedy deletion. Please feel free to nominate the page at redirects for discussion. - Eureka Lott 17:21, 8 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion of Nouns DAO cannot be G4

[edit]

Hi! Thank you for caring about quality on Wikipedia.

I've created https://wiki.riteme.site/w/index.php?title=Nouns_DAO, and I did not know it was previously deleted. While I do some work for Nouns, I was not paid to create the Wikipage. I just though it was notable enough.

Anyways, G4 states that "This applies to sufficiently identical copies, having any title, of a page deleted via its most recent deletion discussion. It excludes pages that are not substantially identical to the deleted version"

I've created it from scratch in a neutral tone. It should not be deleted via speedy deletion, at least not by G4.

Thanks TiagoLubiana (talk) 12:52, 7 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I realize that you're trying to help, but setting image sizes in pixels is detrimental to the encyclopedia. Users can, for a variety of reasons, change the default image size in their user preferences. When you override an image's default size, you're forcing your preference on every user, which can make the site harder for people to use. Please see MOS:IMGSIZE and WP:IMGSIZE for more information. - Eureka Lott 17:13, 14 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Stella Elmendorf Tylor

[edit]

The source:

Born Stella Elmendorf in San Antonio, Texas on December 17, 1885, she studied with Robert Henri at the Art Students League in New York City in 1910-1911. She took part in the Armory Show of 1910. She added the initial T. as a middle name at that time, as she was known by her fellow art students as "Texas".

She married Dr. W. Russell Tylor in Madison, Wisconsin in September, 1919. They had one daughter, born May 2, 1925 in Chicago.

The article:

She was born in San Antonio, Texas on 17 December 1885 as Stella Elmendorf. As an artist she studied with Robert Henri of the Art Students League in Manhattan from 1910 to 1911. She participated in the Armory Show of 1910. In September 1919 she married W. Russell Tylor, a physician, in Madison, Wisconsin. They had one child, a daughter, who was born on May 2, 1925, in Chicago, Illinois.

How is this not a copyright violation? At the very least it's a very flagrant case of close paraphrasing. SamX [talk · contribs] 14:00, 30 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. The article here has used this phrasing for many years. The page at askART, however, has not. The Wayback Machine has captured that page four times, and shows that the biography was added to the page sometime between 2018 and 2021. If there's a relationship between the two pages, it's a WP:BACKWARDSCOPY. - Eureka Lott 14:19, 30 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, I should have checked the Wayback Machine before tagging. Thanks for clarifying. SamX [talk · contribs] 05:27, 1 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Upon further review, this was captured in 2015 and appears to be very similar to the article. SamX [talk · contribs] 05:31, 1 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for that link. I dug up another capture from 2012. I haven't found an older version, but given the creator's history of copyright violations, I think it's safe to presume that it was used as the source of the article. I'll delete it as a close paraphrasing. - Eureka Lott 20:13, 1 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi

[edit]

Any specific reason why you took back a revision of Lake Erie? Most sources say it is 26,000 sq km and not 25,667 sq km 2601:280:5000:D2F0:279:2E90:EE4:421C (talk) 02:45, 10 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. You'll need to be more specific than "most sources." The cited EPA page says that the lake is 9,910 sq mi (25,700 sq km). The conversion template converts that 9,910 sq mi figure to 25,667 sq km, so I suspect that there's some rounding involved. - Eureka Lott 03:39, 10 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Update: I just fixed the rounding issue, so now the article matches the cited source. - Eureka Lott 03:46, 10 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hohimer

[edit]

What is the correct course of action for John_Seybold_(criminal) if not speedy deletion? It is a) inaccurate and b) not worthy of inclusion on Wikipedia. Seybold did not write the book in question. All of the working links in the article are discussions of Frank Hohimer, who is a real person and the actual author of the memoir which Mann adapted.Trumpetrep (talk) 19:13, 14 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

From some initial searches, I see some sites that say they're the same person and some that say they aren't. I didn't see much from reliable sources, though. If you think the page is incorrect and unworthy of an article, you could bring it to WP:AFD for discussion. - Eureka Lott 19:17, 14 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the advice. Speedy deletion seemed to be correct course, based on the criteria. Could you explain why it is incorrect in this case?
And just to be clear, Hohimer was not a pseudonym. He was a real criminal who was on the FBI's Most Wanted List. He wrote the book while he was in prison in Iowa.Trumpetrep (talk) 19:42, 14 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
A WP:Content removal edit can be fine. A speedy deletion nomination can be fine. Doing both in a single edit—especially when it contradicts cited sources—is a bad idea. It gives the impression that you're trying to get an article deleted through backdoor means. - Eureka Lott 21:05, 14 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I appreciate the clarification. I don't think I removed any content when I tagged the article for speedy deletion. What was manually restored by Liz was removed by another editor entirely. That's part of why I tagged the article for speedy deletion. When I did, it was only 2 sentences long, and all of the cited sources were discussing someone else entirely from the subject of the article. Thanks again for your help. Trumpetrep (talk) 21:19, 14 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Category:WikiProject Cleveland members indicating that it is currently empty, and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion. If it remains empty for seven days or more, it may be deleted under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and removing the speedy deletion tag. Liz Read! Talk! 01:20, 18 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

War of 1812

[edit]

Can you look at this 'Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2024 June 6 battles of the war of 1812' that has a non-admin closure based on the for/against numeric count, rather than the merits of the arguments. The proponent based his argument on the same 'guideline' that you rejected in your comments on the battles of the American Revolutionary War to offer a single category for all the battles and deleting all subcategories by state location. Thanks. Hmains (talk) 00:20, 20 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Why Not Categorize Hubbell & Benes as Architects from Cleveland

[edit]

Please consider reversing your reversal and re-categorizing the Cleveland architecture firm of Hubbell & Benes, and the Cleveland architects Messrs. Hubbell and Benes, as "architects from Cleveland" since they are (not sure how to link to it, here: https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Category:Architects_from_Cleveland). The partners, Hubbell and Benes, don't have Wikipedia pages themselves, someone might legitimately want to know "what architects from Cleveland are in this encyclopedia", and such a categorization will help. I think, and I I know that I am often wrong, that not putting the article in that category because it's the name of a firm and not a person doesn't serve the reader. Arguably, for example, someone is more likely to look at the list of Architects from Cleveland and want to find the designers of that city's famous public market and art museum than to discover the merely trivial fact that Philip Johnson was born there. HighAtop94 (talk) 19:20, 3 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there. While we currently don't have articles about Benjamin Hubbell and Dominick Benes, we do have redirects that point to the Hubbell & Benes article, and I added Category:Architects from Cleveland to those redirects. That way, the company is represented in the category without having to disrupt our categorization system. Hope that works for you. - Eureka Lott 23:24, 3 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
