A tag has been placed on Category:Alpine Skiing at the 2023 Winter World University Games indicating that it is currently empty, and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion. If it remains empty for seven days or more, it may be deleted under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself. Liz Read! Hi User:Liz, I do not contest the nomination of the proposed speedy deletion as it is mis-spelling of target category at this Category:Alpine skiing at the 2023 Winter World University Games. Feel free to go ahead a delete the category if possible.

DOB

[edit]

Hi Epluribusunumyall. You recently added dates of birth to a few politician articles. Per WP:DOB, we shouldn't be including these unless they are reliably sourced. Could you please add citations or remove the dates? Firefangledfeathers (talk / contribs) 06:18, 20 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Firefangledfeathers, I merely copying over DOB's that already existed in the article to the headline so it was readably and well organized. As I don't believe WP:DOB applies to such action and I am unsure about the context around the information originally being included, I believe it should just be left as it is for now. - Epluribusunumyall (talk) 06:26, 20 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I would encourage the opposite approach. If you see unsourced dates in the body/infobox, you should remove them. We're potentially spreading misinformation or enabling identity theft by including dates that are incorrect or not widely disseminated. Hello, Epluribusunumyall. It has been over six months since you last edited the Articles for Creation submission or Draft page you started, "List of Ministers of Foreign Affairs".

In accordance with our policy that Wikipedia is not for the indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace, the draft has been deleted. When you plan on working on it further and you wish to retrieve it, you can request its undeletion. An administrator will, in most cases, restore the submission so you can continue to work on it.

Please cite your work on articles. The references provided on this article for ex. [4] are not correct. Sportsfan 1234 (talk) 22:27, 22 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Sportsfan 1234 Thanks for letting me, just want to point out there's much better ways to deal with a poorly formatted reference then moving the article to draftspace. Especially since both these articles where already fully built out.- Epluribusunumyall (talk) 22:39, 22 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Its easier to cite correctly instead of citing the same reference multiple times incorrectly. Sportsfan 1234 (talk) 22:49, 22 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
That's not my point. The point is that I didn't realize that the URL would corrupt itself like that and it would have overall easier for both of us and other editors if you had just let me know, or fixed the issue yourself (I do this often when there's a poorly formatted ref). The article was fully created, a poor reference is not a reason to move it out of mainspace.
ngl, I don't see why you have such an issue right now with unformatted references on articles about the pan am games. the mass-deletion of such edits is counterproductive and goes against the ethos of wikipedia. - Epluribusunumyall (talk) 22:53, 22 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
You can follow another editor whose formatting and referencing is better here [5]. Its literally copying and pasting at this point and changing the info to reflect the article. Nothing is being deleted, you can move it back to article space after the references are fixed. Sportsfan 1234 (talk) 23:03, 22 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
You're still not getting the point though, poorly formatted refs aren't a basis for moving an article unilaterally (or deleting edits) which you have done on numerous pages (not just mine). i dont get this obsession with what's a proper edit and not. Epluribusunumyall (talk) 23:32, 22 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
You don't 'own' an article fwiw. Poorly formatted references are certainly a good reason to move to draft space. If you aren't sure how to reference, I would review the citing pages on Wikipedia before editing again. Sportsfan 1234 (talk) 23:59, 22 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
i'm well aware i don't own an article (it was just a figure of speach, given that I had - up until that point - been responsible for most of the content on that page) and how to reference. where's the guideline on moving it to the draftspace, because i'm pretty sure it doesn't exist? - Epluribusunumyall (talk) 00:14, 23 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Golf at the 2023 Pan American Games – Women's individual, which you submitted to Articles for creation, has been created.

Information icon Hi Epluribusunumyall! I noticed that you recently marked an edit as minor at Davis Phinney that may not have been. "Minor edit" has a very specific definition on Wikipedia—it refers only to superficial edits that could never be the subject of a dispute, such as typo corrections or reverting obvious vandalism. Any edit that changes the meaning of an article is not a minor edit, even if it only concerns a single word. Please see Help:Minor edit for more information. Changing categories on a page is regarded as a major edit not a minor one. Paulpat99 (talk) 06:49, 29 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Date formats

[edit]

What is your source for Canada using the MM-DD-YYYY format for dates? I have found that the Canadian Passport uses DD-MM-YYYY else the government has said it recommends using YYYY-MM-DD. None of these are the option you have been changing it to. Paulpat99 (talk) 05:05, 27 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hey User:Paulpat99, good question. This might be a bit long, but hand in there. To start, both the wikipedia articles Date format by country and Date and time notation in Canada, provide a good context for the complicated nature of noting dates in Canada. ISO 8601 is the official government standard for numeric dates (but this a clunky way of expressing dates in writing text), but from there my reading of the issue is that it diverges heavily if we are talking about English speaking or French speaking parts of the country. Whereas English Canada mostly uses MDY (influenced from the United States), French Canada mostly uses DMY (influenced from France & UK). For context I have lived most of my life in an English speaking part of the country. In terms of CND passports, it normally makes sense to adopt the DMY context as they are bilingual documents that require international recognition, that being said the CND government has not always been consistent of this (Source).
In terms of references to using the MDY format on English wikipedia, here are a couple of documents I have found: the "IM/IT DATE AND TIME STANDARD" document of the Government of British Columbia (English-speaking, source), so does the style guide from Thompson Rivers University (source), the government of Ontario also uses DMY in press releases (as do many other provinces, source).
As MDY is most commonly used in English-Canada, I believe that is the standard that should be applied to English-Wikipedia, while French-Wikipedia (which I rarely edit-on), can continue to use DMY. I also acknowledge that this has been heavily debated elsewhere on Wikipedia, with no consensus developed in either way.
Epluribusunumyall (talk) 11:04, 27 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Oh that makes sense I will revert my edit. Thanks for your explanation. Paulpat99 (talk) 08:01, 28 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

edit summaries

[edit]

Information icon Hello. I have noticed that you often edit without using an edit summary. Please do your best to always fill in the summary field. This helps your fellow editors use their time more productively, rather than spending it unnecessarily scrutinizing and verifying your work. Even a short summary is better than no summary, and summaries are particularly important for large, complex, or potentially controversial edits. To help yourself remember, you may wish to check the "prompt me when entering a blank edit summary" box in your preferences. Thanks! DoctorMatt (talk) 01:44, 29 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Why are you un-categorizing categories on baseball player articles? Yankees10 17:11, 26 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, I only made edit for American players who have competed at the Pan Am Games and have won a medal. In the past they've been classified as Category:Pan American Games gold medalists for the United States (etc. for silver or bronze) + Category:Pan American Games medalists in baseball (etc. for each sport). However the former of these two categories has gotten rather large, and have created smaller categories such as Category:Pan American Games gold medalists for the United States in baseball, similar to what was done for players who have competed for the United States at the olympics i.e. Category:Olympic silver medalists for the United States in baseball.
