Hello. I noticed you copied and pasted a couple of sentences from this article into 1978 Gilbertese parliamentary election, which I have removed as a copyright violation. You've been editing for 16 years – surely you know you're not allowed to copy and paste from other sources? I notice you received a warning earlier this week about doing the same thing from Diannaa. Do you do this regularly? Does someone need to go through over a decade of your contributions to check for more of this? Number 57 09:46, 6 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

In fact you received two warnings about copyright violations in July as well.[1][2] Number 57 09:49, 6 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, back. There was no indication of Copyright on this paper, and I rewrote the text. You can go through over 16 years and 10,000 contributions to check it out… --Arorae (talk) 09:50, 6 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
The second one was a CC by NC-ND, not a compatible license. I did not know.--Arorae (talk) 09:51, 6 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
The extent of your "rewriting" was to change "ten" to "10" and "per cent" to "%". Other than that the text is identical.
The source states:
"three members were returned unopposed, while ten others secured the 50 per cent of valid votes required for election. The remaining 22 seats were filled in a run-off election among leading candidates on 6 February. Then, on 17 March, there was a national election for Chief Minister among four candidates chosen by and from these newly-elected members of the House of Assembly."
The text you added states:
"three members were returned unopposed, while 10 others secured the 50% of valid votes required for election. The remaining 22 seats were filled in a run-off election among leading candidates on 6 February. Then, on 17 March, there was a national election for Chief Minister among four candidates, chosen by and from these newly-elected members."
The fact that the pdf of the paper had no indication of copyright is completely irrelevant. It was published in Political Science – do you really think that has no copyright? Diannaa, do you think this is potentially a WP:CIR issue? Number 57 09:57, 6 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Many people don't understand this point: Under current copyright law, literary works are subject to copyright whether they are tagged as such or not. No registration is required, and no copyright notice is required. This applies all over the world under international treaties. So Arorae, please always assume that all material you find online is copyright whether it's marked as such or not.— Diannaa (talk) 11:01, 6 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Élections aux Kiribati

[edit]

Bonjour.

Tokyo Tatsumi International Swimming Centre

[edit]

Hi there. You recently moved the article Tokyo Tatsumi International Swimming Center to Tokyo Tatsumi International Swimming Centre with the claim that's what the sources say. Japanese English is generally American English in spelling, not British English. Additionally all the sources have it spelt Center including the official website (see here for official site and what they name themselves.) As a result I'll be moving it all back to line up with the sources and what they call themselves. Canterbury Tail talk 13:35, 18 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Canterbury Tail:. Are you sure? Here is the Official spelling: Centre…--Arorae (talk) 13:40, 18 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
The actual official page for the facility has center, as do all the sources on the article. If in doubt we should go by what a location calls itself, not what others call it. I admit that site does show a discrepancy, but it's not the site of the location itself. Even the embedded map uses center. Canterbury Tail talk 13:43, 18 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Canterbury Tail:. It is the official site of the Games. Please do not disturb me anymore here.--Arorae (talk) 13:46, 18 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Arorae, thank you so much for setting up the list of members in Maungatabu. I would love to fill in the blank cells for the results table, but I've found various sources stating different numbers of registered voters and I haven't found any sources for results of the second round of the elections. So far, the only sources for the results of the first round are the Facebook accounts of Radio Kiribati and the Kiribati Ministry of Justice. The Kiribati Ministry of Justice states their registered voters in this source too (with the exception of Tabuaeran), but these numbers differ from Radio Kiribati numbers of registered voters from March 27th. The numbers you are stating in the results table differ again from both sources. So my questions are: Where did you find them and how can we finish this article? It's real investigative work to get election data from Kiribati :O. With best regards and thank you a lot for your efforts in bringing clarity to this topic. With best regards and stay healthy, --Hanzlan (talk) 18:33, 30 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Hi,

I noticed you made a comment on the requested move I made on the Swadhinata Stambha talk page. I understand your rationale. But it is going to be incredibly difficult for English speakers to find this article as it has a Bengali name. English speakers like myself who know Bengali will have no problems but I am not in the majority and I think it would be a lot easier for English speaker to find this article with the name I proposed.

The National Martyrs’ Memorial is called such because English speakers will struggle to find the article under the Bengali name, similar to how English speakers will struggle to find the article I proposed a name change for.

June 2021

[edit]

Information icon Hi Arorae! I noticed that you recently marked an edit as minor at Italy at the 2020 Summer Olympics that may not have been. "Minor edit" has a very specific definition on Wikipedia – it refers only to superficial edits that could never be the subject of a dispute, such as typo corrections or reverting obvious vandalism. Any edit that changes the meaning of an article is not a minor edit, even if it only concerns a single word. Please see Help:Minor edit for more information. Thank you. David Biddulph (talk) 07:47, 28 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@David Biddulph: thanks, but I know that, already. which one edit? I have made so many minor edits, not the subject of dispute (very superficial). For example, counting the exact number of athletes participating is quite uneasy (it changes at every moment and will change until 1st July).--Arorae (talk) 07:54, 28 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Arorae: Help:Minor edit says "A good rule of thumb is that edits consisting solely of spelling corrections, formatting changes, or rearrangement of text without modification of the content should be flagged as minor edits." Pretending to quote the number of athletes participating is indeed pointless at this stage, but changes are not minor. Among your changes this morning, the changes to table formatting are minor, but the rest not. Again, from Help:Minor edit, "... if you are in doubt about whether an edit is minor or not, it is always safer not to mark it as minor." - David Biddulph (talk) 08:27, 28 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Ping me when you leave a message here is useless (!!!), as it is quite useless to insist. Do I let you messages for that? If you would like to improve my edits on WP, since 2004, it is a bit too late. There are so many rules existing (I know some and most I do not) and even if I always try to do my best, I have no time to analyze every "minor edits" I did. Especially on not controversial edits.--Arorae (talk) 08:35, 28 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you

[edit]

Thank you for your kind words. I found the Latasai story remarkable whilst I was researching it, what an incredible young man, I really wish him the best, please send on my regards.

I suspect some interpret notability as being selected for the Olympics and some interpret it as the the physical act of competing. I’m sure the second is right “to the letter of the law” but it ignores all the people who (quite rightly in my opinion) turn to Wikipedia to see who is competing and maybe want to read who is representing their countries, etc, in advance of the event taking place, and as squads are announced. The more fastidious members of the admin crew of course may will point out they may not still compete, which I would suggest is the time to sandbox, but of course each to their own, but the internet isn’t yet full as far as I know. Some people seek control in aspects of their lives to help with other aspects of life they’re struggling with, and I’m not going to judge. I’m sure the Bismark Boateng page will reappear once his foot steps onto that Olympic track later on in the month and I shall enjoy seeing him compete, as I will with Latasai! It’s going to be a fabulous month fingers crossed! Hildreth gazzard (talk) 06:27, 1 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Heat rankings

[edit]

Hi, Arorae, I am Jejsiguoa. As you are a member of Wikiproject:olympics, I want to ask you a question.

Suppose, an athlete, in 100m heats, has ranked 2nd in heat 3. And, after the all heats finished, his/her rank became 4th. For Olympics, there are individual articles on the performances of each country. Now, my question, which result, (2nd in heat 3 or 4th in overall heats) should be provided to the article of the nation's performance? What is the general convention? 2and or 4th? Jejsiguoa (talk) 15:35, 27 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Jejsiguoa: in athletics, there is no overall ranking of the heats and preliminary rounds (also quarters or semifinals) because the weather and events' conditions are always different. so if you are 2nd in your heat, you are not ranked 4th or 5th for all the heats (not officially).--Arorae (talk) 16:18, 27 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

No no. I didn't mean that. Suppose, there is a heat of 100m Men's at any Olympics. The results of the heats are:

Heat 1

1. A : 10.04 2. B : 10.10 3. C : 10.12

Heat 2

1. D: 10.01 2. E: 10.06 3. F: 10.07

Heat 3

1. G: 9.96 2. H: 10.05 3. I: 10.09

Heat 4

1. J: 10.00 2. K: 10.02 3. L: 10.03

(Athletes are represented by A, B, C, D,...)

Overall Heats Results

1. G: 9.96 2. J: 10.00 3. D: 10.01 4. K: 10.02 5. L: 10.03 6. A: 10.04 7. H: 10.05 8. E: 10.06 9. F: 10.07 10. I: 10.09 11. B: 10.10 12. C: 10.12

Now, let's consider Athlete L. In his heat (fourth heat), he has ranked 3rd. But at the overall ranking, he is 5th by timing. Now, every country has their own wikipedia pages on Olympic performances. Like, India at the 2020 Summer Olympics, like Kiribati at the 2020 Summer Olympics etc. If Athlete L is from Kiribati, then his performance would be written in it. In the table of Athletics, what would be his heat ranking? 3rd (specific heat ranking), or 5th (overall heat ranking)? What is the general rule?

I think you have understood the question. Please reply as soon as possible. Jejsiguoa (talk) 14:24, 29 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Swains Island and GEIC

[edit]

Hi Arorae, regarding your revert on Gilbert and Ellice Islands] and successor states. Looking over the GEI and Swains Island articles, it looks like control was disputed some at the time, but the GEI article states "In 1925, Great Britain asked New Zealand to accept responsibility for the administration of the Union Islands (Tokelau) and invited the United States to annex Swains Island." Do you know if that was just a formality or diplomatic game? It was based on that line that I added American Samoa as a successor state since it was at that point that the U.S. incorporated Swains into American Samoa. Thanks. —Carter (Tcr25) (talk) 19:27, 30 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Tcr25: Union Islands were not the main issue of the Colony. They were added to GEIC and officially withdrawn in 1925 (de jure) but de facto only in 1948. In fact nobody cares about it even NZ (they were never control of NZ officials before the end of WWII. Imho, American Samoa cannot be considered as a successor of the British Colony (seems that they annexed part of it). Tarawa Treaty (1979) between US and Kiribati marks the end of all territorial disputes between those countries.--Arorae (talk) 11:54, 31 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

New Italian mayors

[edit]

Sorry I was actually wrong regarding the moment when the mayor becomes incumbent – it is actually right after the electoral council declares the winner. However for the case of Naples the vote counting has not finished yet and therefore the electoral council has not officially concluded the election. So let's wait for that to change the mayor in the Naples article. --Ritchie92 (talk) 09:11, 5 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Indonesian athlete name in article title

[edit]

Hi Arorae, i see tht you moved Eko Yuli Irawan article to Eko Irawan. Fyi, he is well known with Eko Yuli Irawan, and most of Indonesian articles cited as Eko Yuli Irawan, just like in IWF website and Olympics.com. So, please don't just rely on Olympedia as references, especially for Indonesian athletes. Because, there were some mistakes in Olympedia for Indonesian athlete name, just like Windy Cantika Aisah should not be shortened as Windy Aisah, Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo not Kevin Sukamuljo, Anthony Sinisuka Ginting not Anthony Ginting, and etc. Thank you! An article you recently created, 2022 Italian Athletics Championships, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). Mitico!

Blindly reverting

[edit]

Regarding this blind revert, your change made the article inconsistent, as the electoral system section states "Of the 46 members of the House of Assembly..." and goes on to list the 46 members. I made it clear in my edit summary that this was an issue, yet you reinstated the inconsistency. Even though you subsequently amended the start of that section to 45, it still goes on to describe 46 members; 44 elected, one representing Rabi Island and the Speaker.

If you had bothered to examine my edit properly, you'd have also noticed I added some category sorting, which you removed without thinking/realising.

If 46 is incorrect, then fix the entire article, not just one or two parts of it. Number 57 19:37, 9 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Very upseting message: I am not blind yet and you are wrong as the correct number is 45 not 46, as the Speaker is not a MP and as the Attorney General is no more an ex officio member since 2016. So I have examined your edit properly (and your category sorting was not an essential thing, by the way, I have fixed it since). Be more wikilove and try to figure out that my edits could be perfectly correct, not only yours.--Arorae (talk) 20:48, 9 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Kiribati Protestant Church

[edit]

Hi, can you help me understand why you removed the redir from Kiribati Protestant Church to Kiribati Uniting Church? If they essentially are the same organisation, then shouldn't they be dealt with in a single article? Information icon Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you copied or moved text from Kiribati Uniting Church into Kiribati Protestant Church. While you are welcome to re-use Wikipedia's content, here or elsewhere, Wikipedia's licensing does require that you provide attribution to the original contributor(s). When copying within Wikipedia, this is supplied at minimum in an edit summary at the page into which you've copied content, disclosing the copying and linking to the copied page, e.g., copied content from [[page name]]; see that page's history for attribution. It is good practice, especially if copying is extensive, to also place a properly formatted {{copied}} template on the talk pages of the source and destination. Please provide attribution for this duplication if it has not already been supplied by another editor, and if you have copied material between pages before, even if it was a long time ago, you should provide attribution for that also. Thanks for this info @Diannaa: but the common history of KPC and KUC is exactly identical and the same from 1860 to 2014—2015, when KPC became KUC before reconstitution of KPC the same year. I understand the copying issue but I am not familiar with this practice.--Arorae (talk) 13:35, 27 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Elections de 2024

[edit]

Bonjour. Aridd (talk) 17:22, 19 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
