Recent changes
- There is a new beta version of the Wikimedia Commons app for Android. It has a new zoom function when you look at images. It can also suggest places when you upload geotagged photos. [1]
Problems
- There was a problem with the Commons database on 27 May. Commons could not be edited for eight minutes. Because of this problem the database was moved. This caused another short read-only time on 29 May. [2][3][4]
- The Vector skin had a problem where you couldn't add links to the article in other languages. You couldn't see the section if there were no links to other languages already. It also removed content translation links and links to language settings. This has now been fixed. [5]
Changes later this week
- You can get a notification when someone links to a page you created. You can turn these notifications off for individual pages. You can soon turn them off also in the notifications you get. [6]
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 2 June. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 3 June. It will be on all wikis from 4 June (calendar).

Recent changes
- Some articles have tables that can be sorted in different ways. For example a list of countries can be sorted alphabetically but you can click on the size column to sort them by size. If you clicked on the column a second time it would sort the countries from the bottom to the top instead. A third click will now take you back to the original sorting. [7]
- Self-closed tags now work as in the HTML5 specifications. This means you should stop using some of them.
<b/>
is an example of a self-closed tag that won't work.area, base, br, col, embed, hr, img, input, keygen, link, meta, param, source, track, wbr
can be self-closed. Pages with tags that should not be self-closed have been listed in a tracking category since 2016. They will be listed in Special:LintErrors/self-closed-tag. This doesn't affect<references />
or<ref />
. [8] - There is a banner called
WikidataPageBanner
. It is for example used by the Wikivoyages, Wikimedia Russia and the Catalan, Basque, Galician and Turkish Wikipedias. It will now been seen by mobile visitors too. Before this it was only seen on desktop. The wikis should update instructions onMediaWiki:Sitenotice
so that editors know to test and style for mobile too. [9][10]
Changes later this week
- You can now edit MassMessage descriptions through the API. This is useful for tools and gadgets. [11]
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 9 June. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 10 June. It will be on all wikis from 11 June (calendar).
Future changes
- A temporary fix helped wikis make their main pages more mobile friendly. This was in 2012. It has not been recommended since 2017. It will not work after 13 July. Wikis should use TemplateStyles instead. 118 wikis need to fix this. You can read more and see if your wiki is affected. [12]

Guidance requested Re-- https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Draft:Allwell_Uwazuruike
Hello M-Mustapha. I hope you are well. Many thanks for the good work you do with Wikipedia and thanks for reviewing the draft article "Allwell Uwazuruike". I am happy to revise the draft based on your recommendation. However, I am not exactly sure what is required. It is stated that the article is not adequately supported by "reliable sources". I would be grateful if you could throw some more light on which kind of sources are required as I referenced independent national dailies covering the subject including: The Sun Newspaper, Guardian Newspaper, Daily Trust, and The Nation (interviews and feature stories; references 2,3,4, etc). I also referenced the author pages on Google Scholar and Palgrave Macmillan. The subject also has a knowledge panel on Google (i.e. if you carry out a search of the name).
Is it a question of the number of sources or are the above not reliable enough? In other words, do you want me to simply add more sources or to change these ones? If the latter, could you kindly give me an indication of which class of sources you would accept?
I would really appreciate your guidance.
Thanks again for your time.
These are some of the National Dailies covering the subject that I referenced:

All4prof (talk) 00:20, 13 June 2020 (UTC)
- All4prof, so a couple of things, first is see WP:CITE & follow it next time when citing sources. Furthermore, the article fails to establish or explain how or why the subject of the article is notable. The article reads like a resumé found on LINKEDIN & that isn’t what Wikipedia is for. But really please if you can convert all those sources appropriately following what you have understood having read WP:CITE you may submit & I myself would review your draft. Celestina007 (talk) 00:50, 13 June 2020 (UTC)
- Hi All4prof, I hope you're now OK with the above guidance by Celestina007, if you're still unclear you can ask here again. Try and improve your citations, the tone of the article and be specific of why the subject's notable for inclusion in encyclopedia. See this WP:CITE, WP:NPOV and WP:WNOT.Em-mustapha talk 05:54, 13 June 2020 (UTC)
- Hi Celestina007 and Em-mustapha. Thanks so much for the feedback. It was very useful. I have now converted the sources as directed and worked on the tone of the article. I hope it reads much better now. Please do let me know if there's any thing required. Many thanks All4prof (talk) 21:27, 13 June 2020 (UTC)

Request on 09:43:19, 18 June 2020 for assistance on AfC submission by Ituzechris
- Ituzechris (talk · contribs)
Hello,
I am requesting assistance for the recently reviewed Yvan Buravan article, the reason of the submission decline was, "not adequately supported by reliable sources".
I am trying to write on personality figures in the Rwandan art scene, and most of the sources will be from the local daily -The new times Rwanda- and I am wondering if it is considered unreliable, because then most personality figures would not have much as far as referencing their work is concerned.
Let me know what else I could improve to make the article better and reliable.
Ituzechris (talk) 09:43, 18 June 2020 (UTC)
- You're welcome Ituzechris, lets start by letting you know that all entries to Wikipedia must be notable that means they have at laest meet the WP:GNG before they are included to the encyclopedia. If a draft is not adequately supported by independent reliable sources that can be verified and not just passing mentions it must be declined and or even request it deletion, so your draft needs sources to support its notability, keep on improving the draft with independent sources not from YouTube and any other social media channels and blogs, see these WP:RS, WP:V WP:IS and WP:REFB.Em-mustapha talk 12:41, 18 June 2020 (UTC)

Problems
- There are some new tools to make it easier for newcomers to start editing. They are available on some wikis. These wikis had a problem with the visual editor for a short period of time last week. This was because of a bug in the new tools. It was soon fixed. [17]
- Some user scripts and gadgets stopped working because of a change to CSS selectors.
.vectorTabs
should be replaced with.vector-menu-tabs
to fix this. [18]
Changes later this week
- The developers are working on a new interface to solve edit conflicts on talk pages. This will be released on 24 June. You can give feedback. [19]
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 23 June. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 24 June. It will be on all wikis from 25 June (calendar).

Problems
- Everyone was logged out. This was because a few users saw the wikis as if they were logged in to someone else's account. The problem should be fixed now. [21]
- Some readers didn't see new edits to pages. If the page had been recently changed they saw an older version of the page instead. This only affected readers who were logged out. It lasted for ten days. It has been fixed. [22]

for Vector. To have the same ID for all skins it will change tosearchButton
in Monobook and Modern too. This will affect gadgets and user scripts. It will happen on 23 July. They should be updated to usesearchButton
. You can read more and see a list of affected scripts.

Adding content to the article
Hi, i see that you created and added tournament results to some badminton players. But, seems like you only copy-paste the tournament results which cause the information that you present does not match the facts. For ex. in Godwin Olofua, in the achievement section, you added information that stated Olofua won gold medals in the 2019 African Games and 2019 African Championships, but in fact, the gold medals won by Anuoluwapo Juwon Opeyori. So, i hope you can added information based on fact with reliable sources in your next edit. And, please correct the mistakes you made in some badminton player articles. Stvbastian (talk) 17:41, 3 July 2020 (UTC)
- Thanks Stvbastian for figuring this out, it was just a typo not copy paste, as you can see in the infobox it's correct there and only those two places were mistaken in the achievement section, I fixed them now he won silver and bronze instead. This Anuoluwapo Juwon Opeyori was his partner and together they won several medals in the doubles categories, so thats why I got carried away by putting the doubles category wins at the singles section of the achievement. Em-mustapha talk 18:34, 3 July 2020 (UTC)
- A typo is when you trying to type "A" but you only press "S". So in this case, seems like you did not doing a factual verification to a biography of living person related articles. And look, after you said you already fixed that, another user found and fixed another mistakes you made. And then, after i check to another badminton players youve created, there were a lot of mistakes in the articles.
- In African Games section: There is no African Games in 2018, Peace Orji won mixed doubles bronze in 2019.
- In African Championships section: Mixed doubles 2018 and 2019 you added wrong opponent, score, and flag. Women's doubles 2018 you added wrong score.
- Repeating references without using ref name=""
- Some references did not cite the statement in the sentences. Seems like you only copy-paste the dead link references from Dorcas Ajoke Adesokan article, even source about Dorcas Ajoke Adesokan participation in 2019 African Games you put as Peace Orji reference to statement "In 2018, she competed at the African Badminton Championships and she won two medals bronze and silver in the women's singles and doubles events".
After i found major mistakes in two articles, im not sure with another articles that you created. Especially for badminton player: Amin Yop Christopher, Sofiat Arinola Obanishola, Zainab Damilola Alabi. Stvbastian (talk) 21:48, 3 July 2020 (UTC)
- Ok, issues resolved I've rechecked and fixed the mistakes I can, those articles were created during an event I participated and have created about 100 articles at that time, 26 are in here enwiki. By the way, I should have to revisit those articles all. Em-mustapha talk 15:05, 4 July 2020 (UTC)

Problems
- The Score extension has been disabled for now. This is because of a security issue. It will work again as soon as the security issue has been fixed. [23]
Changes later this week
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 7 July. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 8 July. It will be on all wikis from 9 July (calendar).
Future changes
- Abstract Wikipedia is a new Wikimedia project. It will collect language-independent information that can be easily read in different languages. It builds on Wikidata. The name is preliminary. You can read more. [24]
- The iOS Wikipedia app developers are thinking about new experimental tools. If you use an iPhone you can help them by answering the survey.
- Some rules for user signatures will soon be enforced. Lint errors and invalid HTML will no longer be allowed in user signatures. Nested substitution will not be allowed. A link to your user page, user talk page or user contributions will be required. You can check if your signature works with the new rules. This is because the signatures can cause problems for tools or other text on the page.

Draft: Linda Iheme
Concerning about your comment of saying, the above name didn't show significant coverage on the newspapers, websites and magazines that was published, she is not notable to be Wikipedia with a main reason, most of the sources are not secondary independent source. Nonetheless, the twelve references that are used are secondary independent source which have been using in most Wikipedia. I have numerous proof that the twelve references are been cited in Wikipedia. And all of this twelve references have fully shown significant coverage of Linda Iheme. Please sir, can you assist me to fish out the sources that are not secondary independent source?. The remaining four references are the school websites which are regarded as primary source, and they are also there to verify her existence. Abbas Kwarbai (talk) 12:03, 7 July 2020 (UTC)
- Thanks Mr Kwarbai, I hope this is what you said;
I have numerous proof that the twelve references are been cited in Wikipedia
,..all of this twelve references have fully shown significant coverage of Linda Iheme
. AndPlease sir, can you assist me to fish out the sources that are not secondary independent source?
. I am here to help you, firstly! please I require your proofs? Secondly! I don't believe those 12 sources which I even doubt their reliability are enough for this WP:SIGCOV and finally see this WP:RS. -Em-mustapha talk 00:03, 8 July 2020 (UTC)
Draft: Kabiru Bala
Well done sir, base on the draft I submitted yesterday, I learnt that it is approved. So my question that I want to ask is that, when I viewed it on Wikipedia website, I observed it is an article but I saw a template where I'm requesting to submit, which I didn't understand it. Should I remove the template or I should submit? Abbas Kwarbai (talk) 16:30, 8 July 2020 (UTC)
- When you create a draft article you are suppose to submit it to reviewers at the article for creation request (AFC) where it will be reviewed base on wikipedia's criteria of article creation and that's what you do with many of your drafts, I can see some have been rejected because they do not satisfy those criteria while others have been accepted. You are not suppose to remove draft template from your decline submission but if you feel you can create a direct article without going through draft you're free to do that, but there are other template like the maintenance template in an article are allowed to be removed when the issues raised in them are addressed. -Em-mustapha talk 17:57, 8 July 2020 (UTC)
Kabiru Bala
Well done sir, concerning Kabiru Bala article, if I search it, I will not see it in Wikipedia. Please I need a positive response Abbas Kwarbai (talk) 23:02, 8 July 2020 (UTC)
- Yes you won't see it because it's still unreviewed, it's awaiting a page patroller to patrols it for issues like violations of Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, copyright violations, biography of living persons violations, conflicts of interest, and advertising. After this review is completed the patroller will mark the page as "reviewed" or "patrolled" then you can see it in your searches. -Em-mustapha talk 05:43, 9 July 2020 (UTC)

Recent changes
- A temporary fix helped wikis make their main pages more mobile friendly. This was in 2012. It has not been recommended since 2017. The mobile main page special casing stopped working 14 July. 60 wikis now have main pages that don't work well on mobile. You can see which ones, how to fix it and how to get help in Phabricator. This is the same problem that was reported in Tech News 2020/24 and 2020/26.
Problems
- There is a problem with the interlanguage links. The interlanguage links are the links that help you find a specific page in a different language. The sorting is broken. The developers are working on a solution. [33]
- Some users keep getting the notifications for the same event. Some of these are old events. [34]
- Some users have trouble logging in. This is probably a browser cookie problem. The developers are working on understanding the problem. If you have trouble logging in you can see the details on Phabricator. [35]
Changes later this week
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 21 July. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 22 July. It will be on all wikis from 23 July (calendar).
Future changes
- There is a
Printable version
link. This will disappear. That is because web browsers today can create a printable version or show how it will look in print anyway. [36]
