DYK for List of professors at the Roman law school of Beirut

On 3 January 2020, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article List of professors at the Roman law school of Beirut, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that professors at the Roman law school of Beirut drafted parts of the Corpus Juris Civilis, a fundamental work in Roman jurisprudence? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/List of professors at the Roman law school of Beirut. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, List of professors at the Roman law school of Beirut), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

submit sandbox draft for article review

Dear Elie plus

I would like to submit an article I've written in sandbox for review. However I don't know how to change its title from sandbox to reflect the article's contents. Would you kindly guide me as to how to do that? Many thanks!

Thank you, proud Kafir, for quality articles on Lebanese culture, history and people, such as Law school of Beirut and Temple of Eshmun, National Museum of Beirut and Elias Abu Shabaki, for gnomish work in categories, assessment and page moves, - you are an awesome Wikipedian!

February 2020

Sabaho Elias! I need your technical and professional prowess. Someone deleted the page of the Lebanese journalist Philippe Ziade created in 2011 not long after his death I believe, and replaced it with the self-promotion page of the Las Vegas-cum-politician Philippe Ziade. The other Ziade whose wikipedia page was created originally contributed to the history of journalism in modern Lebanon, he was one of the first news reporters in the Serail under the French mandate, he created the National News Agency, was decorated several times among others by Riad El Solh and so on. How should we proceed? Rustumpasha (talk) 10:40, 4 February 2020 (UTC)

Hi @Rustumpasha:, I noticed that and it's infuriating. I'll take care of it. Meanwhile I need you to gather more sourced materials so we can expand Philippe the journalist page. ~ Elias Z. (talkallam) 06:45, 5 February 2020 (UTC)

Hi,

I noticed that Roman temple of Bziza hit 100k+ views the day it was a TFA, so I added it to the most viewed page. I copied the image and the text from the TFA blurb, but I noticed that your signature is different from your username so I don't know if you want to change it.

Anyways, congrats on having more views than JK Rowling! RetiredDuke (talk) 17:17, 28 March 2020 (UTC)

Lebanon Ionic Temple

“Ruins Called Om El Hamed near Tyre”

Hi Elie, I was wondering if you could help me identify these ruins from Southern Lebanon? The picture is from The Holy Land, Syria, Idumea, Arabia, Egypt, and Nubia, published in the 1840s. I can’t find any scholarly works on it, but Michael Greenhalgh (1 August 2012). Constantinople to Córdoba: Dismantling Ancient Architecture in the East, North Africa and Islamic Spain. BRILL. p. 526. ISBN 90-04-21246-9. says that they have disappeared? I also looked on Google Earth, as it seems clear from the picture that the ruins are immediately south of the Tyre peninsula, but I couldn’t see anything there. Onceinawhile (talk) 22:12, 27 March 2020 (UTC)

Hi @Onceinawhile:, the site is very well know for its Hellenic caches of statuettes, funerary stelae and pottery among other troves. The site lies in a conflict zone, close to the border of our southern neighbor. It was not excavated well, there are two temples there and a settlement. The reason you are not finding stuff in the literature is because it is often written in modern times as Umm al Amed. Here are a few articles and sources I found [1], [2] [3] [4]. Let me know if you need help, I am available although not quarantined :( ~ Elias Z. (talkallam) 05:53, 30 March 2020 (UTC)

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Philippe Ziade (entrepreneur), requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, group, product, service, person, or point of view and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Sarah Hegazi

Hi Cameron,

Hello

I noticed you removed the section from said article pertaning to what happened on ar.wiki. Yes - Self-generated media like Wikipedia are not considered WP:RS.

This is an act of systematic hate; the deletion is based on homophobic sentiment and political agendas under the guise of objectivity.

Please comment on articles and edits, not editors - harrassment of editors is likely to end in your account being blocked.

Local media is already showing interest and we expect articles to be published in the coming hours. I will be returning the edits shortly / as soon as we have external sources. Make sure they meet WP:RS.

I would like to underline that this is not a trifling matter; LGBT harrassment and bullying is ongoing on ar.wiki.

What does that have to do with En.wikipedia? We run as separate projects. I would also like to know how a technical wiki page is not considered RS.

It is explained here: https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Wikipedia:Wikipedia_is_not_a_reliable_source#:~:text=Wikipedia%20is%20not%20a%20reliable%20source.,progress%2C%20or%20just%20plain%20wrong.&text=Therefore%2C%20Wikipedia%20should%20not%20be,source%20in%20and%20of%20itself.

Sarah Hegazi Arabic Language Deletion Controversy

Hi,

I noticed your earlier run-in with what appears to be quite a rude and unhelpful user. The same user has also deleted my own references to the deletion controversy. I know you mentioned anticipating sources being published on this issue, and I just saw that this article has been circulating and it seems to reinforce the points you made about the Arabic Language deletion: https://raseef22.com/article/1078784-%D8%A8%D8%B9%D8%AF-%D8%AD%D8%B0%D9%81-%D8%B5%D9%81%D8%AD%D8%A9-%D8%A7%D9%84%D8%AA%D8%B9%D8%B1%D9%8A%D9%81-%D8%A8%D8%B3%D8%A7%D8%B1%D8%A9-%D8%AD%D8%AC%D8%A7%D8%B2%D9%8A-%D9%83%D9%8A%D9%81-%D8%AA%D8%AF%D8%A7%D8%B1-%D9%88%D9%8A%D9%83%D9%8A%D8%A8%D9%8A%D8%AF%D9%8A%D8%A7-%D8%A7%D9%84%D8%B9%D8%B1%D8%A8%D9%8A%D8%A9

My own Arabic is poor and I rely on Google Translate, so I thought it was better to forward it to you first rather than attempt to use it myself.

Again, thank you for your efforts and contributions. Boredintheevening (talk) 23:32, 23 June 2020 (UTC)

Thank you so much @Boredintheevening: I know about the article, my friends @Majdal.cc:, @Fjmustak: and others made it happen. More exposure is expected soon when the most listened to podcast in the US will air. I am so happy and feel vindicated for Sarah. Special thanks for @Cameron Scott: for the extra motivation. Sensible, tactful and friendly persons like them make editing here extra pleasant and years of experience really sharpen ones communication skills as they so aptly demonstrated. I will review the article tomorrow and will refer to said article. It was a real joy working with you. GN/GD ~ Elias Z. (talkallam) 00:43, 24 June 2020 (UTC)

WikiProject Phoenicia evaluations

Hi. I notice that you have evaluated several articles for WikiProject Phoenicia twice recently. If you wish to change an assessment or evaluation decision it is normal to overwrite the existing one(s). For example, WikiProject Phoenicia is currently assessing Third Punic War as being both Start and C class and both mid- and high-importance; Punic Wars is evaluated at both mid- and high-importance. And so on. It would be helpful if you could revisit these duplicates and assign them just one assessment grade and one importance value each. Thanks. Gog the Mild (talk) 17:52, 14 August 2020 (UTC)

@BrownHairedGirl: PS: the page is fixed. NExt time use the talkpage! ~ Elias Z. (talkallam) 08:44, 6 October 2020 (UTC)
Elie plus, I know that coding takes time. But that's not the issue here.
You reverted without fixing, and continued reverting without adding anything to your comment[6] that you would fix at some other time.
Your decision to revert without fixing,[7] and your choice not to communicate that changed your mind about when to do the fix are evidence of you being disruptive and unco-operative. If you want to try to misrerepresent your disruption and poor communication as "bullying", then go ahead ... but beware the WP:BOOMERANG.
Next time you create a problem which you don't want to fix, try taking your own advice and use the talk page rather than promptly reinstating the error which you had created. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 08:52, 6 October 2020 (UTC)
The error was on the module, I fixed the code causing the error while you were busy not looking at the page. Had you not reverted, twice, or had you checked the page you would have seen it was fixed. ~ Elias Z. (talkallam) 08:55, 6 October 2020 (UTC)
Cut the gaslighting and the rewriting of history. You chose to say that you wouldn't fix it it now, and you chose not to communicate to me the fact that you had changed your mind about that. Your choice to then accuse me of "bullying" is a nasty, manipulative attempt to invert the reality of your change of mind and your non-communication.
Wikipedia is a collaborative project. Take responsibility for your own uncollaborative actions and your own uncollaborative decision not to communicate effectively> Your choice to engage in passive aggression by blaming me for not noticing changes which you had chosen not communicate is nasty ... and your wholly bogus accusations of bullying are toxic. Cut it out. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 09:06, 6 October 2020 (UTC)
@BrownHairedGirl:You are accusing me that i Chose to delay fixing the error "You chose to say that you wouldn't fix it it now". Please show me where I wrote that and tell me how what you are doing is not gaslighting. You just wont acknowledge your impatience and your aversion for discussion and you come preaching ME about collaborative work? I will be waiting for you to substantiate your claim. ~ Elias Z. (talkallam) 09:31, 6 October 2020 (UTC)
Here's the diff[8].
You have wasted more than enough of my time with your drama-mongering and your bogus accusations. Take it to a drama board if you want to continue. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 09:34, 6 October 2020 (UTC)
@BrownHairedGirl: How does this "Thank you will work on that, please leave me a message on my talk page next time" equal this "You chose to say that you wouldn't fix" ???? When you make such accusation be ready for a response. I will waste every minute of my time and yours to defend my record against users like you. I may as well take this to a "Drama board" as you put it. A simple sorry, I am a rash revert-ist who doesn't use discussion pages and who doesn't check pages between rash reverts would also do. ~ Elias Z. (talkallam) 09:41, 6 October 2020 (UTC)

Please review El Buss again

Dear Elias Ziade, I would appreciate if you had another look at El-Buss refugee camp, because I added a lot of info about its Phoenician histroy since you did the review. As it shows that the place is the largest known Phoenician cemetery, I trust it is of greater importance than "Low".RomanDeckert (talk) 12:45, 20 October 2020 (UTC)

Hi @RomanDeckert: sure will do. You can change the ratings yourself based on the project importance scale. ~ Elias Z. (talkallam) 13:22, 21 October 2020 (UTC)

October harvest

October

Apples for the sweets you gave me. Today's DYK is a song, Singt dem Herrn ein neues Lied (Kempf), a call to see and praise wonders daily and let nobody deny that, written in World War II, - a good recipe for peace, it seems. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:50, 26 October 2020 (UTC)

Beautiful Main page today, don't miss the pic by a banned user (of a 2013 play critical of refugee politics), nor a related video, interviews in German, but music and scene. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:57, 29 October 2020 (UTC)

A place in the mountains

94. Merj-Ahin (vallee alpestre du Liban septentrionale.)

Hi Elie, at User_talk:Onceinawhile#Pictures... we are trying to locate some 19th century paintings of Palestine and Lebanon. One that I am stuck is "94. Merj-Ahin (vallee alpestre du Liban septentrionale.)"

It looks to be known today as Marj Hine or Merchhin.[9]

Any chance you recognise the location? I cannot find it on wiki. Onceinawhile (talk) 08:40, 20 October 2020 (UTC)

Hi @Onceinawhile:, this is pure guesswork but I gathered that the text describes the Anti-Lebanon and Mount Hermon. the only possible place I can think of is Marjaayoun (Marja3yin misspelling if the guide is southerner). ~ Elias Z. (talkallam) 13:30, 21 October 2020 (UTC)
We have found it at File:VanDeVeldeMap2.jpg directly inland from Tripoli, off the road from Hermel to Danniyeh:here.
The strange thing is that google doesn't show it, nor does any other online modern map.

38.Ruines d'un temple a Belat (entre Tyr et Tibnin)

Have you ever heard of the "Temple a Belat", called by Ernest Renan "La hauteur de Bélat possède la plus frappante ruine de toute la contrée"?[10] It is at 33°06′53″N 35°17′26″E / 33.114823°N 35.290613°E / 33.114823; 35.290613, equidistant between Marwahin and Ramyah. Lots of detail on it at the PEF Survey here. But nothing on the internet in modern times. Onceinawhile (talk) 08:20, 22 October 2020 (UTC)

@Onceinawhile:I have never heard of that place 😕. I checked the maps and indeed there are outlines of ruins. How did you come about the coordinates? Note that sites near the border were pillaged. If I go to the south I will try to pass by. ~ Elias Z. (talkallam) 10:27, 27 October 2020 (UTC)
Hi Elias, i found the coordinates using PalOpenMaps - they have taken the PEF Survey of Palestine map (which shows the ruins) and georeferenced it: https://palopenmaps.org/view/9999/@33.114823,35.290613
